President’s Report Michael Cronin, VWCV President
Hello and welcome to the July newsletter. The most important thing to remember this month is that the date and location for the general meeting has changed, it is now the 4th Tuesday of the month and at Bell’s Hotel South Melbourne. As we are being given the use of the venue for free I would like to encourage you to attend this first meeting to put on a good show. The cruise to Dayelsford was a great success with some good finds at the market (well for me anyway), the weather was also kind to us with the
rain holding off. Some of us also spent far too much at the chocolate factory the little chocolate beetles were a hit, pity they did not have any chocolate bay window Kombis.
The winner will be able to select from three choices based on the title of the Pogues album “Rum, *****, and the Lash. Andrew and John don’t know it yet but they will be helping me pick Currently the only activity for July is the the winner, so I’m sure in best pirate VW spectacular at Valla, to all those that tradition they are open to persuasion. are going and can still afford the petrol That’s all for this month, see you at (something not to think about if you own Bell’s Hotel on the 22nd. a Kombi) I will see you there and don’t forget your Pirate Costume. I will have a special prize for the best costume worn by a club member as an additional incentive for members.

Calendar of Events
Cruise to Dayelsford Sunday June 22nd It was a wet and chilly morning on Sunday June 22nd for the VWCVs cruise to Dayelsford. Driving from Deer Park up the Western Highway to Dayelsford via Ballan, we were greeting with both brilliant sunshine and intermittent driving rain. The inclement wintery conditions didn’t seem to deter hardy VWCV members, with around 15 vehicles of all description turning out for the one hour cruise.

At Dayelsford we were greeted by some VWCV members who had traveled up from Geelong and Ballarat. The first port of call was the market at the railway station. The market offered lots of bric a brac and some really cheap fruit and veg. Some of us went for a ride on the 1930s vintage railmotor for a scenic trip to Bullarto and back, and then to one of the trusty pubs for a meal. Others brought their own picnics and went down to the lake for lunch. In the afternoon we set off for the chocolate mill, which was about 7km north of the town. The chocolate mill had a very tasty selection of hand made chocolates on offer (the dark chocolate was particularly scrumptious). They even sold chocolates in the shape of Beetles. Thanks to Kingsley for organising another enjoyable cruise, and to Peter Bruty who led us to the chocolate mill. Matt Kinsey, VWCV Secretary.
MOTORSPORT JUNE UPDATE Cheryl and I attended the first round of the interclub challenge at Rob Roy on behalf of the club. It was a cool but fine day which made for very little traction as the track was very cold. I raced my Mark 1 Golf in the 1301 to 1600 (standard and modified) class.
The Golf went well but due to the lack of traction, our times were slower than anticipated. Times for all cars were slower than usual due to the track temperature. Still had a good day and the club gained some points for the interclub challenge.
And yes, we are not at the bottom of the club rankings and still one round to go! The next date for the club challenge is September 28 and please check the Motorsport calendar for event updates. See you around the next corner, Chris.
