taken up the job of Club Secretary and I look forward working with him in this capacity over the next 12 months or so.

President’s Report Dean Holden, VWCV President Hello to everyone and welcome to my first report as President of the VW Club Vic. First up I wanted to thank our outgoing President Michael Cronin, who due to his efforts over the past 2 years has handed me the Presidency of a very healthy car club. We are very financial and have an extremely stable membership base with interests that range from Air Cooled Beetles, Kombi’s and Karmann’s thru the very latest Water-cooled VW’s. Michael has stepped down as President, but I am very pleased to announce that he has

As we had our AGM last month we also have a number of new committee members joining the ranks. Please join me in welcoming Brian Reed as our new Vice President, Richard Graham as our new Social Secretary, Andrew Mengyel as our new Membership Officer and Michael Clark as our new Motor Sports Coordinator. We thank Matt Kinsey, Kingsley Morrison, Xavier Larkin and Chris Antonello for their excellent work in these positions over the past couple of years. The key positions of Treasurer, Web Master and Magazine Editor have remained with John Farlow, David Holinger and Tony Albers. During the month of September our main club activity was running the annual VW Club Swap Meet. We tried a new undercover location at historic

Williamstown this year and by all accounts the day was a great success. We had 37 swappers and 350 buyers thru the gates and some great bargains were to be had on the day. The site operated by the Williamstown Maritime Association provided a colourful and central location with easy access from the freeways and walking distance to the Williamstown shops and café’s. We are sure to use this facility again for some future events. In October we have a busy schedule starting with the Oktober Fest at the Cuckoo Restaurant on Saturday the 25th of October and our General Meeting on Tuesday the 28th at South Yarra Volkswagen.

Early registrations close on the 3rd of November to allow time for processing and post. Even if you don’t register early, you can enter the Show and Shine on the day. All show and shine entrants get a very nice DOTVW show Bag and entry for the driver and one passenger included in the Show and Show registration price of $20.00. I encourage everyone to enter in the Show and Shine, regardless of how worthy or unworthy you might think your VW is as a show car, its great value for money and certainly adds an extra dimension to the day. You might just walk away with a trophy.

Look forward to seeing you all at South Yarra VW for the General Meeting. Leading us into November and the Day Francis and Michael will have their team of the VW 2008 on Sunday the 16th. on hand to talk about the latest VW Don’t forget to register for the Show products and sure they will be more and Shine. Early registration entitles you than pleased to hash out a great deal to a very nice Day of the VW Collectors on a new VW if you are in the market Cap. You can register online or via post. for a newbie.

As the saying goes

“One mans trash is another mans treasure” The Volkswagen Club of Victoria held it’s annual Swap Meet in September just passed and as you would expect there was no trash to be found, just treasure, or that’s the way we see it as Volkswagen enthusiasts. The new undercover venue at the Williamstown Maritime Association proved a new evolution for the VWCV Swap Meet with no need for weather concern, the passing street traffic from the popular seaside town also contributed to the success of the day. A successful day for Swappers and Buyers, by 8am the line of Traders and Swappers ready to enter the venue was flowing well into the main street, by 8.30 everyone was sorted and the doors to the Public were opened. In total there were 37 Swappers/Traders and over 350 buyers thru the gates. If you were there to by a vehicle, find that much needed small part or just haggle with friends, there were lots to see and choose from. Vintage luggage has certainly come out of the closet in the last couple of years for all those with that Retro holiday in mind, rusty Beetles and Buses for the Rat lovers and some NOS parts too, I even picked up a classic piece of 60’s Bling for my Bus. When all was sorted through the Pirates Tavern outside offered the space for a well earned rest and cold one, the snags and hamburgers weren’t bad either. For others it was a quiet stroll down the peer for a peak at Melbourne from a different angle. The Volkswagen Club of Victoria would like to thank all who attended this year and to the Committee and Volunteers for their efforts to make the 2008 Swap Meet a great day for all. Hope to see you all next year. Tony Albers, VWCV Editor

The Day of the Volkswagen 2008 – Judging Arrangements Entry forms and judging criteria for 2008, the main features of which are • Split judging forms for modified and standard vehicles

• A bonus points system for standard vehicles to encourage the preservation and display of standard vehicles

• Separate ‘Best of Show’ trophies for standard and modified vehicles • Relaxation of restrictions on entering modified vehicles in standard categories. (Vehicles which are of a standard appearance but are, for example, lowered with different wheels, engine and interior components, can now enter a standard category if they choose. This will avoid their having to compete against heavily modified big budget vehicles. They may not, however, score bonus points for originality, and as such, presentation and quality of paint, interior, etc will have to be of the highest standard).

Sunday 16th November 2008 Cranbourne Racecourse

• Entry forms have been created for modified vehicles with an expansion of judging criteria and categories • Introduction of a judges’ choice award. This may go to a vehicle which does not generate a high score but may be of special interest due to being: An historically significant vehicle A one owner original car well preserved A modified vehicle with an individual concept that is new to the VW scene • Under Body judging has been removed from the judging criteria and has been reserved for future Concourse events We are looking forward to the Day of the Volkswagen being a fun day for all and realise that while many great cars will be on display, not everyone can win. Judges will try to ensure that the judging will be fair for all who enter. Good luck to all.
