Presidentʼs Report Happy Xmas (in July) to all of our club members. Good news is that we are past the shortest day and on the march to Spring. Other news is that Day of the VW 2011 is only 4 months away so forget the cold and get out the shed and work on that VW project. Our June general meeting was great fun with many interesting items coming out if the wood work for our Bring and Brag evening. The lucky owners of the best 4 Bring & Brag items took a away some fun prizes on the night.

be vacated on the night. This year there are a couple of key committee positions where the current position holder will not be re-nominating. At the very least we will be seeking a new Club President and Motor Sports Coordinator. Other items on the AGM agenda will include club membership fees. Our membership fee structure has not changed for a number of years now and is well over due for a review. More details on this next month and at the August general meeting.

Speaking of Christmas in July, we have this event happening on Sunday the 24th at the Barwon Park House in Winchelsea. Bookings closed on the 10th of July, but there may still be spots available if you contact Cheryl Ermel before Monday the 18th of July. Remember that the club is subsidising this event so its a great Xmas lunch to be had at a very good price per head.

Day of the VW arrangements are well and truly in hand. Major sponsorships from VW Group Australia, Shannons, VW Magazine Australia and Volkwerke are confirmed and our first press advertisement for the DotVW 2011 is organised for August. Theme and logo for the DotVW 2011 has also been created and is theme is currently being converted into Tee Shirts, Trophies and other items for our big day. Details for Day of the VW 2011 will be going up on the club web site very soon. Please check the web site often for updates and show and shine pre registration forms.

On August the 13th we will be running the VW Club Vic Dyno Day. Mick from Australian VW Performance Centre has kindly allowed the VW Club to invade his Croydon premises and will run the dynamometer on the day. Numbers are limited so please register your interest as soon as possible. Rear drive air coolers will be run in the morning and front drive water coolers in the afternoon. If you haven't had your Vee Dub on a Dyno here is your chance. And remember its not just about high HP cars. Its seriously just as much fun seeing your 36HP Beetle working hard to crack the 25HP at the wheels barrier. In September we have a number of club events. One of the most important is our club AGM on the 15th of September. Part of the AGM agenda is the club committee elections. All committee positions will

July general meeting will be held on Thursday the 21st. Entertainment for this months general meeting will be a VW Trivia quiz, so bone up on those VW facts. Years of model introductions, VW model designations, engine sizes, are bound to be among the quiz topics on the night. As always some fun prizes are up for grabs, so the winners will be grinners. See you all on the 21st July. Dean Holden - VWCV President

SEPTEMBER

2011 Bug In – Volkswagen Club of WA Toodyay (pronounced “2J”) was the location for the 2011 Bug In which was promoted by the Volkswagen Club of WA. As WA was the location Lorraine and I saw an opportunity to support the Bug In and then add a camping holiday touring outback WA so the decision to go was made. Christine and Bernard Morosow had the same idea so they set off for WA after our Clubʼs Kennett River weekend, planning to drive the Nullabor. As we didnʼt have that much time we chose to put the car on the Indian Pacific and cross the Nullabor by train. I have crossed by car three times now so I was more than happy to be on the train. One of the Bug In sponsors was Great Southern Rail (GSR) and the Indian Pacific. GSR generously provided a one way trip from Perth to Adelaide for two people and their car as a prize for early Bug In registrations and Lorraine and I were the lucky winners so our return trip was going to be very special. Due to train timetables I took the car on the train a week before the Bug In and Lorraine flew in on the Thursday before the Easter weekend. To fill in the time before the Bug In I took a road trip to Kalgoorlie. On my return to Perth I was passing Coolgardie when I came up behind an A Van. As I passed the van I noticed the tow car was a VW Transporter and in fact it was Bernard and Christine looking for their camping ground for the night, a very pleasant surprise and a chance meeting. On Easter Friday we made our way out of Perth and on to Toodyay.

VWCV invitation to the

As well as Christine and Bernard other Victorian Club members to attend included Garry and Leslie Collis, Robert Busselmann and Berd Wachs. In total we joined about 60 plus Bug In attendees. The whole town was very supporting of the Bug In with special accommodation and food offers from many of the towns businesses, we were made to feel most welcome. The mayor even closed the main street on the Saturday for the Bug In show and shine and the sight of some 90 VWs parked up and down the street with people meandering through admiring the cars was impressive. The Bug In format was the usual sequence of events, the welcome BBQ on Friday, the show and shine on Saturday, motor sport events on Sunday and the presentation dinner on Sunday night. At the welcome BBQ Mal Dodd was honoured with having attended 40 Bug Ins. It was also encouraging to learn that there were 30 Bug In first timers at the WA event. Robert Busselmann took out the motor sport trophy for Victoria. The food at the welcome BBQ, the Saturday evening social night and the presentation dinner was excellent, and in some cases too much. The WA Bug In provided a great opportunity for VW enthusiast, new and old, to meet and celebrate the car we all love. Congratulations to the WA Club and its organising committee for hosting an excellent VW event. John Farlow - VWCV Treasurer

SALES & WANTED

FOR SALE The committee is happy to report that we have confirmation of another booking at the monthly car show event that is held at Federation Square. For those who may not know, on the last Sunday of each month Victorian car clubs that have sought and received approval from Federation Square management are able to put on a display in the Atrium which is near the Flinders Street entrance to Federation Square and almost at the Russell Street/ Flinders Street intersection. This is a very popular activity, we waited 3 years for our first and only booking to be approved, and this was on Sunday 27 September 2009. It was an extremely successful day that was thoroughly enjoyed by all the club members who attended and the hundreds of passing Sunday city shoppers. Federation Square management received an independent report that our show was “extremely cool” and they were very impressed by the quality and range of our car presentation. The showcase starts at 10am when we need to meet in the Russell Street extension and from there we are directed by the security men to park under cover in the entrance to the Atrium. We can accommodate 12 VWs in style and would like to see if we can get a good range of different models and years. The event will conclude at around 2.30pm. As anyone who knows the area will agree there is also lots to see and do in the immediate vicinity including a number of good quality food and refreshment outlets. It is also worth mentioning that the 2009 event was held in very bad Melbourne weather with cold winds and intermittent rain but the protection offered by the Atrium made a huge difference.

If you would like to show off your VW at this event, it is essential that you contact me and book in as soon as possible. It is also important that if you book you must make every effort to attend as last time around 2 or 3 people booked in but never turned up or rang in beforehand saying that they could not make it, which kept other keen members from being there.
