A Short History
Japan’s history is a captivating saga of resilience, innovation, and cultural evolution. Dating back thousands of years, Japan’s earliest inhabitants were hunter-gatherers who developed intricate pottery and farming techniques. By the 3rd century, the Yamato clan established the first unified state, laying the groundwork for Japan’s imperial era.
In the ensuing centuries, Japan experienced periods of isolation and conflict, punctuated by cultural flourishing and the rise of samurai warrior culture. The feudal era saw the dominance of powerful shogunates, notably the Tokugawa shogunate, which enforced rigid social hierarchies and closed Japan off from the outside world.
However, in the mid-19th century, Japan underwent a rapid transformation known as the Meiji Restoration, embracing modernization and industrialization to emerge as a global power. This era marked the end of the samurai era and paved the way for Japan’s imperial expansion, culminating in its involvement in World War II.
Following defeat in 1945, Japan embarked on a remarkable journey of reconstruction, evolving into an economic powerhouse and a beacon of technological innovation. Today, Japan stands as a vibrant fusion of ancient tradition and cutting-edge modernity, renowned for its rich cultural heritage, technological prowess, and global influence.

Our Queenstown Golf Week 2024 was our 3rd trip with Voyages and we have at least two more booked. From the first email to the final goodbye Voyages are exemplary in every aspect. No detail was overlooked and they make you feel so very welcome. The accomodation at the Crowne Plaza was great - perfect central location... the golf courses at Jack’s Point and Millbrook were outstanding and our day trip to Walter’s Peak was amazing...superb BBQ buffet. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Voyages if you want to experience a great golf trip.
