The Battle of Fayetteville was fought on its front lawn and a doorway bears the scar of a Minié ball bullet, preserving in testament the hardfought battle that earned the intersection of College Avenue and Dickson Street the title “Bloody Corner.” Headquarters House is furnished with authentic pieces from the mid19th century, making it an interesting tour for history buffs, especially those interested in the early days of the Southwestern frontier.

This woodland garden trail of plants native to the Ozark Plateau connects the heart of downtown Bentonville to Crystal Bridges. The trailhead is the home of Dr. Neil Compton, the conservationist instrumental in the preservation of the Buffalo River, designated the first National River in 1979. Surrounded by heritage strolling gardens, this historic landmark makes a great wedding setting. Visit the authentic pre-Civil War cabin and Museum Store for tickets.
