We’re committed to serving our patients with compassionate, high quality care while continuously growing to meet the changing needs of our community.
From the President/CEO
Welcome Back to Your Walton Arts Center If there’s one thing I’ve missed over the past year, it’s been the opportunity to gather for live performances. I’ve not just missed seeing a Broadway play or watching a musician who I love perform; I’ve missed coming together as a community for a shared art experience. It’s in these communal experiences where we realize that we are not alone; we develop empathy for our fellow man; and we are able to process some of our deepest feelings. In short, these art encounters make us better people.
Now more than ever we need these art experiences so that we can connect to others and escape the day-to-day challenges of life. And on behalf of the staff, the volunteers and our board, I want to welcome you to your Walton Arts Center for our 30th anniversary season.
Enjoy the show!

RAIN – A Tribute to The Beatles The Best of Abbey Road Live!
Tips for Audience Members Different performances bring different audience and artist expectations. Monitors in the lobby and curtain speakers will share specific restrictions, but here are some general tips to help you and your fellow audience members enjoy the show. Be aware of the kind of show you are attending – a classical music performance, for example, is different from a rock or comedy show, and the etiquette norms may differ. Need help? Ask an usher or staff member for advice and check lobby monitors. Picture taking is generally not allowed, unless the curtain speaker or artist has indicated otherwise. Please set your phone to “silent” mode and do not text during the show.
We welcome children to most shows and know their behavior can sometimes be unpredictable. If your child/ children are disruptive to other patrons, we may ask that you move to the lobby until they are ready to return to the quiet environment of the theater. Parents can enjoy the performance on the monitors in the lobby while outside the theater. We can make your experience better! If something is bothering you, please find an usher or House Manager for assistance.
While concessions are allowed in the theater, please enjoy them quietly and with respect for the performer(s) and your fellow audience members. Don’t forget! Bring back your Walton Arts Center cup to future performances for reduced price refills. Hearing and vision enhancement devices are available, free of charge, on a first-come, firstserved basis. Please let a House Manager or usher know if we can help you with any of the devices.
The carrying of weapons and/or firearms is prohibited at Walton Arts Center under Arkansas Code 5-73-306 even if you have a permit. Walton Arts Center is a tobacco-free facility. waltonartscenter.org

Direct from Broadway, MEAN GIRLS is the hilarious hit musical from an awardwinning creative team, including book writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock”), composer Jeff Richmond (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and director Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).
Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. Soon, this naïve newbie falls prey to a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung. New York Magazine cheers, “MEAN GIRLS delivers with immense energy, a wicked sense of humor and joyful inside-jokery.” USA Today says, “We’ll let you in on a little secret, because we’re such good friends: GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!”

A sweeping romance that lifts you up where you belong!
Jan. 4-9
AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, based on the Oscar ®-winning film starring Richard Gere and Debra Winger, is a breathtaking production that celebrates triumph over adversity and includes one of the most iconic and romantic endings ever portrayed on screen. Featuring the Grammy Award®-winning, No. 1 hit single “Up Where We Belong,” and a score based on the 1980’s catalogue of music that gave voice to a generation, the live stage production is a new adaptation by multiple Tony Awards® nominee Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Everyday Rapture), based on the original screenplay by Douglas Day Stewart. The musical is directed by Scanlan with choreography by Patricia Wilcox (Motown, A Night with Janis Joplin). Zack Mayo’s got smarts and a body built for U.S. Navy pilot boot camp, but he also has too much swagger… until he meets a drill sergeant who’s determined to drill his arrogance out of him. Zack finds comfort in the arms of a local factory girl. But it isn’t until tragedy befalls a fellow candidate that Zack learns the importance of love and friendship, and finds the courage to be his best self, and win the heart of the woman he loves. Cirque Mechanics Birdhouse Factory
Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom
Nov. 18, 2021
Feb. 3, 2022
Enter the most unlikely setting for a circus – a factory – one where the workers are acrobats and the machines are circus props. When a bird is injured by the main steam boiler, the workers come together to care for it and break out of the monotony of the assembly-line. A contortionist performs on a turntable powered by unicyclists, a trapeze artist spins acrobatically inside of a giant wheel, and trampoline wall artists defy the laws of physics in this artful and nostalgic story of love, laughter and flight.
Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom, a new musical filled with traditional and original gospel and freedom songs, tells the inspiring true story of Lynda Blackmon Lowery, the youngest person to walk from Selma to Montgomery, Ala., during the Voting Rights March in 1965. Jailed nine times before her 15th birthday, Lynda and her friends and neighbors fought alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to secure the right to vote for African Americans. Ally Sheedy (The Breakfast Club, High Art, “Psych”) adapted the award-winning memoir by Lynda Blackmon Lowery for the stage.

Achmed is an adventure-seeking prince who finds, loses, then recovers his beloved. The film is brought to life by multistring quartet Invoke, providing a score to match the epic tale’s mix of lighthearted and more sinister themes. Known for its playful “not classical…but not not classical” (SiriusXM) style, Invoke’s musical expertise and improvisatory skill will heighten your journey to another time and place.

Fran Lebowitz’s trademark is the sneer. She disapproves of virtually everything except sleep, cigarettes and good furniture. In her essays and interviews, and most recently in her Emmy®nominated Netflix special “Pretend It’s a City,” she offers acerbic views on current events and the media – as well as her pet peeves (e.g. tourists, adults who roller skate, children who speak French and anyone who is unduly tan). In a cultural landscape filled with endless pundits and talking heads, Lebowitz stands out as a cultural satirist whose works are regarded as classics of literary humor and social observation.

Dec. 9, 2021
Wild Ponies have always looked to their roots in Southwest Virginia for inspiration – paying tribute to the rugged landscape and old-time American music that continues to thrive there, supported by a community of fiddlers, flat-pickers and fans. The result is a broad, bold approach to Appalachian music – with lyrics that draw on family heirlooms, created by a multi-cultural band whose members span several generations.
With a greasy guitar style, horn-like harmonica, smoky vocals and pulsing foot percussion, Ray Bonneville is a hard driving, blues dipped, song and groove man writing about people on the fringe of society. He’s won a Juno Award for Best Blues Album (Gust of Wind), the International Blue Challenge (representing the Ozark Blues Society) and his song “I Am the Big Easy” won the International Folk Alliance’s 2009 Song of the Year. As his hands make their way across the strings and fretboard, his lyrics make sense of the world around us and help us consider our place in it.
In the lineage of string bands who blur the boundaries of American roots music, Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem have always been standard-bearers. At the helm, Arbo is “blessed with an unmistakable voice, both light and sultry, with a hint of tremolo and smoke” (Acoustic Guitar). Combining wit, camaraderie and indelible songs that can shake the rafters or hush the room, Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem leave audiences humming and hopeful.

Learning Through the Arts at Walton Arts Center
Did you take a field trip to WAC as a child? Maybe you’re a teacher who looks forward to bringing their students to a show – or even a parent who makes a point to be a field trip chaperone when your child is heading to WAC.
When you become a Friend of Walton Arts Center, make a donation, or attend Art of Wine, Masquerade Ball or AMPfest, you are helping us continue to do this important work in our community.
In a typical season more than 25,000 children get to see a live theater performance at Walton Arts Center through the Colgate Classroom Series. The series is designed to give students of all ages an opportunity to take an arts field trip to the theater. There are multiple performances to choose from each season including shows like the entertaining Popovich Comedy Pet Theater, or educational shows like Digging Up Arkansas that effectively teach students the history of Arkansas.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
We believe that all students should have access to formative arts experiences. As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 environment, we recognize that field trips are more challenging than ever for schools. We will continue offer virtual-only curriculum-linked performances in Fall 2021 and return to in-person school performances in Spring 2022 – all at no cost to schools.
+
Since 2001, more than 600,000 students and teachers have been served by our arts education programs.
+
More than 25,000 students from nearly 90 schools annually experience a live performance at Walton Arts Center as part of the Colgate Classroom Series.
+
Each year, nearly 100 teachers and teaching artists learn to use the arts to teach core curriculum subjects like literacy, social studies, and science. These exemplary educators bring the arts to more than 1,000 students, kindergarten through high school.
+
More than 69,000 students in 75 Arkansas counties have learned about Arkansas history through the arts programs since 2013.
