Pardon our construction!
Jerry Walton,
This is a phrase you are going to hear more and more around Walton Arts Center as you begin to see the exciting changes in our venue. As you can see by the dirt in our backyard, we have begun part one of our two-year expansion and renovation. The City of Fayetteville began construction on the Spring Street Parking Deck last year in mid-October, which is scheduled to open in late Fall 2015. Thank you to Mayor Jordan and the City of Fayetteville for championing this monumental endeavor! It is also with great pleasure I share with you that the Walton Family Foundation has pledged $5 million towards our “Investing in our Future: The Expansion of Walton Arts Center” Capital Campaign. This challenge grant will help us reach our $23 million goal, allowing Walton Arts Center to meet the needs of our artists and the community for the next 25 years. You will soon learn how you too can help “Invest in our Future.” If everyone takes part, we can achieve the next amazing transformation of Walton Arts Center and Fayetteville’s Entertainment District. TIPS FOR AUDIENCE MEMBERS
Welcome to Walton Arts Center! Different performances bring different audience and artist expectations. Monitors in the lobby and curtain speakers will share specific restrictions, but here are some general tips to help you and your fellow audience members enjoy the show. What do I need to know? Be aware of the kind of show you are attending – a classical music performance, for example, is different from a rock or comedy show, and the etiquette norms may differ. Some performances may have an intermission. Some may be recorded live. Need help? Ask an usher or staff member for advice and check lobby monitors. We welcome children to most shows and know their behavior can sometimes be unpredictable. If your child/children are disruptive to other patrons in the theater, we may ask that you move to the lobby until they are ready to return to the quiet environment of the theater. Parents can enjoy the performance on the monitors in the lobby while outside the theater. Picture taking is generally not allowed, unless the curtain speaker or artist has indicated otherwise – and please set your phone to “silent” mode and do not text during the show. When concessions are allowed in the theater, please enjoy them quietly and with respect for the performer(s) and your fellow audience members. Hearing and vision enhancement devices are available, free of charge, on a firstcome, first-served basis at Coat Check in the main lobby. Please let a House Manager or usher know if we can help you with any of the devices. We can make your experience better! If something is bothering you, please find an usher or House Manager for assistance. Walton Arts Center is a tobacco-free facility. Smoking areas can be found outside on the front plaza.

“The best kind of feel-good show, warm-hearted and irresistible.” –The Sunday Times
It’s rare that a Broadway musical truly captures the hearts and minds of multiple generations, but Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is one musical that does just that.
This Broadway classic, which exquisitely retells the Biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors, is one of the most enduring family shows of all time – and this all-new production is more beautiful than ever. Featuring Broadway stars Diana DeGarmo (as The Narrator) and Ace Young (as Joseph), this is one show you and your family won’t want to miss! Be here when Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat comes to Walton Arts Center for seven performances March 10-15. Show Sponsor:

“One of the best things to happen to Broadway in the past decade.” –The Hollywood Reporter This is not your ordinary Broadway musical. Yes, in true Broadway fashion, this musical is indeed emotionally captivating and theatrically breathtaking. However, unlike most Broadway output, this show features an impressive bevy of actors/musicians who actually play their own instruments while singing live onstage!
Based on the Oscar-winning 2007 film of the same name, Once tells the enchanting story of a Dublin street musician and a beautiful young woman who shows him how to ignore his fear and follow through on his dream. This is a truly unique musical that illustrates the power of music and love. You have seven chances between April 29 and May 3 to see why this production won eight Tony® Awards in 2012 and the Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theater Album in 2013. Don’t miss it!

Family Fun Series
Finally, that EXCITING family show you’ve been waiting for! What do you get when you combine musicians, acrobats, metal saws and axes? The answer: Timber! Distinctively set in the world of loggers and traditional farm life, this remarkable show from French Canadian circus company Cirque Alfonse is loaded with thrilling, gravity-defying stunts, balancing acts on tree stumps, synchronized juggling routines (with incredibly dangerous objects), as well as toe-tapping sing-a-long songs! The Family Fun Series is made possible with generous support from:
As Broadway World puts it, “It’s a show that finds a home for a 66-year-old grandfather and a 2-year-old toddler – and it’s splendid entertainment for everyone age 2 to 66, too! The sweating, testosterone-soaked atmosphere is offset by this charming lack of sophistication and it marks Cirque Alfonse as something different – and rather special.” Timber! presented by Cirque Alfonse plays at Walton Arts Center two times on May 14 & 15. Media support provided by the NWA Democrat-Gazette.
Learning Through the Arts Researchers from the University of Arkansas College of Education’s Department of Education Policy partnered with Walton Arts Center to better understand the long-term benefits of culturally enriching field trips. Their research shows measurable effects in middle school children who attended performances more often as elementary students than their peers. The studies reveal that students who attended live arts performances more often had increased cultural interest, arts participation, reading habits, empathy and tolerance. “Walton Arts Center has an important voice in the discussion of how students benefit from attending live performance,” says Laura Goodwin, Walton Arts Center’s Vice President of Learning. “Our partnership with education researchers at the U of A has implications beyond Northwest Arkansas.”
The opportunity for students to attend performances at Walton Arts Center is determined largely by school principals. “It’s important that principals understand the benefits of arts field trips. They are key to giving children access to these experiences,” Goodwin explains. Parents also play an important role in arts advocacy. “The arts are essential. The next step is to advocate for field trip friendly policies and funding at the state, district and school levels.”

We are pleased to announce the Walton Family Foundation has awarded a $5 million challenge grant toward the renovation and expansion of Walton Arts Center, which is expected to be complete in Fall 2016. Private support is key to leveraging the generosity of the Walton Family Foundation, the City of Fayetteville and its residents who voted in support of the Yes! Yes! Yes! Campaign in November 2013. We invite you to join us as we plan for the future. Everyone can play a part – big or small. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions:
When will construction begin?
Walton Arts Center construction will begin July 2015.
When will the new parking deck open?
Construction on the City of Fayetteville Parking Deck began in October 2014 and the deck is scheduled to open in Fall 2015.
Will Walton Arts Center be closed during the entire renovation?

distinguished symphonies and music programs around the world together to celebrate the convergence of art, music and nature. This season, the Artosphere Festival Orchestra will perform three concerts: a 10x10 Arts Series performance on June 19 featuring The Great Animal Orchestra Symphony and works by Scandinavian composers Edvard Grieg and Carl Nielsen; a performance on June 24 at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, which will be broadcast live on KUAF 91.3 FM Public Radio; and an allBeethoven finale concert on June 27 featuring world-renowned Italian pianist Pietro De Maria.
