THE EYP European Youth Parliament is a non-partisan and independent educational programme for young European citizens. Its mission is to support the development of young people into politically aware and responsible citizens by involving them in European political thinking and promoting intercultural understanding. Since its creation in 1987, hundreds of thousands of young people have taken part in regional, national and international sessions, formed friendships and made international contacts across and beyond borders. The EYP network is present in 39 European countries and has over 2400 active volunteers. The entire network organises almost 500 events every year. The Berlin-based Schwarzkopf Foundation is the international umbrella organisation of the EYP. All activities of the European Youth Parliament are under the permanent patronage of the SecretaryGeneral of the Council of Europe.

THE TEGUSAD EESTI NOORED Tegusad Eesti Noored (TEN) is the official representative of the European Youth Parliament in Estonia. It is a youth organisation created and run by motivated young people. TEN organises educational events for high school and university students. It aims to foster personal development and to encourage participants to value their own opinions. TEN’s events help participants create a better understanding of local and European affairs and help young people find the confidence to make a difference in their community.

THE CONCEPT OF THE FORUM Like any other EYP forum or session, V UF will follow the structure described below.

TEAMBUILDING During Teambuilding, the participants, in their respective committees, learn to know each other through a series of activities and games.

COMMITTEE WORK Throughout Committee Work, the delegates analyse the topic of their committee, identify the problems surrounding it and discuss solutions to these issues. The output of Committee Work is a written resolution.

CULTURAL PROGRAMME An extensive Cultural Programme, providing the participants with an opportunity to socialise and discover each other’s cultures through conversation, accompanies every session or forum of the European Youth Parliament.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY The last part of every session is a General Assembly (GA). In GA, the committees come together to present and debate the resolutions they wrote. In the end, the resolutions are put to a vote.

THE SUBSIDIARY PROGRAMME The programme of the V University Forum will also include the following elements:

DISCUSSION WITH EXPERTS Each committee gets a chance to discuss their ideas with at least one expert qualified to provide profound background knowledge on the topics under discussion. Expert visits will take place after the committee has considered the problems inherent to their topic and before they begin to work on solutions. This approach will give the delegates an opportunity to determine the aspects of the topic, for which additional information is required.

PANEL DISCUSSION As part of the Cultural Programme, a panel discussion will take place. The discussion will be opened to everyone interested and will be tackling the topics of the Forum. This event will provide delegates with inspiring presentations and useful information for their discussions while opening the floor for all the citizens interested.

THE TEAM LEWIN SCHMITT

The President of the Forum The President of the Forum is leading the Team of Chairpersons and directs the academic side of the Forum. During the Forum he will make sure that all the resolutions will meet the high academic quality and helps the Chairpersons with their work.

ANNEMARI SEPP & ELINA UDEKJUL Head Organiser

The Head Organisers of the Forum will make sure that everything works out fine and take care of all the organisational matters together with their team of organisers. They are behind all the venues, catering and even getting you to the Forum.

ABOUT ESTONIA Estonia is a country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. It is bordered to the north by the Gulf of Finland, to the west by the Baltic Sea, to the south by Latvia, and to the east by Lake Peipsi and Russia. The country has been regained independence in 1991 and since then has developed into one of the most technologically advanced societies in the world. • vvwEstonia has a population of just 1.3 million but is larger than Denmark and Holland. • Almost 50% of Estonia is covered by forest. • Estonia is the world’s least religious country. Only 14% of the population profess any religious beliefs. • The Estonian language is a finno-ugric language – resembles most to Finnish and is different from Latvian and Russian language. • Estonia has two Independence Days. ABOUT TALLINN First established in the early medieval era, today’s Tallinn is an exciting mix of old and new. Being the capital, it has about 400,000 inhabitants and yet it is home to the most intact, and UNESCO protected, medieval city centre in the world. A stone’s throw away you’ll find the city’s business centre with modern towers and luxurious hotels, trendy neighbourhoods and large shopping centres. Tallinn’s luring coastline dotted with promenades and sandy beaches is especially rewarding during the summer but offers scenic views of the iconic cityscape throughout the year. Tallinn is the first point of entry to Estonia for most visitors, and if you’re the kind of person who likes to jump right in, then you’re in luck, as Tallinn city centre is never more than 15-minutes drive away regardless of if you happen to arrive by plane, train, coach or ferry.
