NT2 State Exam Programme II Civic Integration
DAYTIME
EVENING
Dutch for the NT2 State Exam II
Dutch for work and study Sprint
An intensive course on 5 levels that offers a solid foundation. You will learn Dutch quickly and at a high level. After level 4 or 5, participants will be ready to take programme II of the NT2 State Exam. This means you will be able to understand difficult texts, write your own texts on a variety of topics, speak Dutch well and fluently, express your opinion and participate in discussions.
If you are a native speaker of German, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic or Afrikaans, you will be able to learn the basics of Dutch more quickly. This course is identical to the above course, but the pace is twice as fast (level 1.1 and 1.2 in one course period).
Dutch for the NT2 State Exam II level 5: Get Ready!
NEW!
The level 5 course gives you the tools you need to successfully complete programme II of the NT2 State Exam. This course is also the perfect way to further improve and perfect your Dutch if you are not planning to take the State Exam. The course includes State Exam training, conversation classes and excursions. DAYTIME
State Exam II training During one week, you will practice with mock exams for every skill, to ensure you will have a good idea of what is expected of you. Please note: the NT2 Get Ready! course (level 5) includes training for the State Exam.
EVENING
Professional Dutch An extensive course for people who already have a good command of the Dutch language (CEFR level B2/B2+) and would like to improve their language skills for work or studies. SATURDAY
Everyday Dutch In this comprehensive course you will be required to do a lot of online self-study, supported by a group lesson on Saturday. The level 1.1 course teaches you how to use everyday expressions and basic sentences; level 1.2 teaches you frequently used sentences and expressions. The language level you need for everyday life in the Netherlands! You can continue with levels 2.1 and 2.2 in the evening course to further improve your language skills. SUMMER
EVENING
Dutch for work and study This semi-intensive course will take you to the ‘beginner’ level at the very least, but you also have the option of continuing to a higher level. After 2 course periods, you will have a good command of the basics. After 6 periods you will be able to understand difficult texts, speak Dutch well and fluently, express your opinion and participate in discussions.
Discover (the) Dutch In this summer language course, you will also learn about Dutch culture and society and explore some of the highlights of the country’s history. See www.studyabroadinamsterdam.com under Amsterdam Summer School.

General information
Information for students
• You can join at any level after taking an entry test to establish your level. There are courses available for beginners up to advanced (CEFR level A1 up to C1, see www.erk.nl). • From September 2017 to May 2018 there will be a number of start dates for each course (see year calendar). • There will be a test at the end of every course. If you pass this test, you will be awarded a certificate which will allow you to progress to the next level. • Courses will commence when the required number of participants has been reached. • Please visit nt2.vu.nl for up-to-date information on the full course and training programme.
• (Prospective) students of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and VU University Medical Center Amsterdam receive a discount on course tuition fees and are granted preferential placement in the courses. • If your attendance rate is satisfactory and you have passed the final exam, ECTS credits can be awarded for taking the course. This varies per degree programme (consult your study adviser or the examination board). • The language courses for VU Amsterdam students and VU Amsterdam employees are part of the VU Academic Language Programme: fgw.vu.nl/alp. • For more information on admission to VU Amsterdam, please contact studentdesk@vu.nl. • VU Amsterdam also offers a preparatory year for non-Dutch students. For more information, please visit http://vasvu.vu.nl.
APPLYING AND ENROLLING Do you have the required level of education? Everyone who has completed a secondary school education (at Dutch havo level or higher) is welcome to enrol in the courses. You must be able to understand and speak English at elementary level (A2) and possess computer skills.
STEP 1: APPLYING FOR A DAYTIME OR EVENING COURSE
STEP 2: TAKING AN ENTRY TEST
Do you already speak a little bit of Dutch? In that case, you will be asked to take an entry test so that we can determine your level and the appropriate course for you. STEP 3: YOU ARE INVITED TO TAKE THE COURSE AND PAY THE TUITION FEE
Daytime Course • Complete the application form on nt2.vu.nl. • Then visit the VU-NT2 consultation hour*. Here we will discuss which course level is the right one for you and whether you will have to take an entry test (more below). You do not need to make an appointment. To enrol you will have to provide proof of identity and other relevant documents, such as (a photocopy of) your school diplomas, certificates of any other Dutch language courses you have taken, a VU Amsterdam student card or staff pass and, if possible, bring the Nuffic diploma recognition. If your municipality offers the NOA test, please bring your results. If you have been offered a DUO loan, please bring the acceptance letter.
After enrolling (and possibly taking an entry test) you will receive an e-mail inviting you to take part in the course. This e-mail will specify your level, when your course will start, how to pay the tuition fee, and which books you need to buy. The cost of teaching materials is included in the tuition fee for the daytime courses, but not for the evening and Saturday courses. STEP 4: YOUR PLACEMENT IS FINALIZED
Evening Course
As soon as we receive the tuition fee payment, your placement in the course will be finalized (unless the current group is already full, in which case you will be placed on a waiting list). Once you have bought or obtained the course material, you are all set to begin! See nt2.vu.nl for terms and conditions and the privacy regulations.
• Complete the application form on nt2.vu.nl. • You have the option of attending the VU-NT2 consultation hour* for more information. You do not need to make an appointment.
