VU-NT2 ACADEMY
LEARNING DUTCH NEDERLANDS LEREN
COURSE PROGRAMME 2018-2019
1
LEARN DUTCH AT EVERY LEVEL Welcome to VU-NT2! On our courses you will learn the language skills you need in order to enjoy living in the Netherlands and to achieve success in your studies or work. Our courses also introduce you to the culture and traditions of Dutch society, and give you the opportunity to expand your network by meeting people from many different nationalities, backgrounds and walks of life. About the courses Each year there are several opportunities to start a group course on Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam’s lively campus, right next door to the Zuidas business district. You will be allocated to the best group for you according to your current level of
proficiency and attend one to four classes a week, depending on the course you take. Your focus will be on improving your spoken Dutch under the expert guidance of highly skilled and experienced teachers. You will also receive feedback on written homework assignments to help you improve your spelling, grammar, use of register and sentence structure.
Study in class and at home The academic standards at VU-NT2 ensure that you will be enrolled in a high-quality course, specifically developed for participants who have completed an appropriate level of secondary education (comparable with Dutch havo or higher). The pace is reasonably fast. If you want to take full advantage of the course, it is essential that you also study at home.

Civic Integration
NT2 STATE EXAM PROGRAMME II – CIVIC INTEGRATION
On the daytime group course Dutch for the NT2 State Exam II, you will learn Dutch up to B2 level in one calendar year. This means you will be able to understand difficult texts, write your own texts on a variety of topics, speak Dutch fluently and correctly, express your opinion and participate in discussions. You can start four times per year. After four or five modules each lasting nine weeks, you will be ready to take the NT2 State Exam II. You need this qualification if you want to go on to study at a university or a university of applied sciences in the Netherlands. VU-NT2 will advise you whether you need Level 5 to reach B2 Level, depending on your progress and results in Level 4. Candidates for civic integration can apply to DUO for a Dutch government loan to pay for the course. The Level 5 module gives you the tools you need to successfully complete Programme II of the NT2 State Exam. The course includes state exam training, conversation classes and excursions. Participation in the Level 5 module is limited and only possible if you have successfully finished Level 4.
NT2 State Exam II training This intensive three-day course gives you the opportunity to practise by taking practice exams for every language skill. It’s the ideal way to get a good idea of what is expected of you in the actual State Exam II.
DAILY LIFE
Would you like to learn Dutch to help you with your day-today activities? Why not join our Saturday course Everyday Dutch? Within four months, you will learn to understand and use the basics of the Dutch language (A2): all the handy words and turns of phrase you need to live your everyday life in the Netherlands. In this comprehensive two-module course, you
will be required to do a lot of self-study, supported by eight Saturday morning classes per module.
WORK, STUDY AND SOCIAL CONTACT
Would you like to learn Dutch at evening classes, with five to seven hours self-study per week? The evening course will take you to beginner’s level at the very least, but you will also have the option of continuing to a higher level, all the way up to C1. The modules of Dutch for work and study start four times a year and the classes are twice a week. After two course modules of eight weeks, you will have a good command of the basics. On completion of six modules, you will be able to understand difficult texts, speak Dutch fluently and correctly, express your opinion and participate in discussions. Are you a VU student? Would you like to learn enough Dutch in just four months alongside your studies to help you feel more at home on campus? Then why not take our evening course Level 1.1 and 1.2 modules, now offered at a greatly reduced rate. Reach A2 level for reading and listening, and A1 level for speaking and writing, and you’ll get a ‘Basic Dutch on Campus’ certificate. If you are a native speaker of German, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic or Afrikaans, you will be able to learn the basics of Dutch more quickly. Dutch for work and study SPRINT (one module) is identical to the above course, but the pace is twice as fast: Levels 1.1 and 1.2 in a single course period (September). Professional Dutch is a semi-intensive course (16 weeks, one class a week) for people who already have a good command of the Dutch language (B2/B2+) and would like to improve their language skills for the purposes of career advancement or higher education.
