The attractions are: Quarantine… It is one year on and the authorities claim the Typhon virus has been contained. With regular screening now the norm, people have learnt to live with this new way of life, however recent testing has found some strange anomalies…!!!! Has the virus returned… Could it have mutated… Do you have what it takes to escape the zombie hoard? … Scare rating 8. Dead Meat…..Since the containment of the virus, there have been a number of companies investigating the effects on living tissue. There could be large windfalls for a company who can attract the interest from defence budgets and pharmaceutical giants. With governments resources stretched, who is keeping an ethical eye on these companies? You have been tasked to visit one of these facilities and report back your findings. Make sure you keep your wits about you, previous visitors have gone missing! Scare rating 9.5… *This scare involves confined spaces where you will need to crawl. Buried Alive….. As it became more and more difficult to dispose of the Zombies, many hundreds have been rounded up and buried into pits. These Zombies, in the absence of human flesh turn on each other but occasionally they resurface only to be more virulent and desperate for human flesh than ever before. The government has therefore decreed that for the greater good, humans must be added to the pit, as food, to placate the Zombies. If you are randomly selected as a ‘food-drop’, the outcome is almost certain death, although some brave souls have been known to find an escape route… Will you have what it takes?! Scare rating 8.5… Bloody Boulevard Scare Fair Stalls, Trick or Treat Street Theatre, roaming characters, themed food and beverages, games and vendors each night plus the new Laser Zombie Run Zone. The fully immersive experience at Hellgate will also include the all-new Bloody Boulevard with Scare Fair Stalls, Trick or Treat Street Theatre, roaming characters, themed food and beverages, games and vendors each night plus the new Laser Zombie Run Zone. The Shires Wednesday 7th October Leas Cliff Hall Folkestone Powered by Crissie’s powerful but subtle and supple vocals and Ben’s perfectly complementary tones and acoustic guitar, The Shires have literally found a piece of country to call their own. They love American music, but they’re proudly British and intensely keen to add some real indigenous flavour to the pot. The song Made In England is a perfect example, a real celebration of all things British. The duo, Crissie Rhodes and Ben Earle are being tipped for great things in 2015 by industry insiders - as well as their growing legion of fans. After playing hardly half a dozen shows together The Shires caught the attention of Decca Records who signed them in the UK and they secured a contract with American based record label Universal Music Group Nashville thus becoming the first ever UK country act to be signed to a major Nashville label. Now The Shires are ready to gig, and to bring that album home from Nashville. 'At the end of the day, all we want to do is write songs and sing them,' says Earle. People will be more than ready to listen, in their country and far beyond.

This month, Canterbury based Singer / Songwriter, Emily Watts releases her debut EP.One summer, Emily Watts retreated to a little blue beach hut in Tankerton, Whitstable to write songs in isolation. Inspired by the picturesque and ever-changing landscapes of the East Kent coast, Emily spent time taking in the views and sunsets to fuel her songwriting. Emily will perform these songs with a live-band especially brought together for the night at Gulbenkian on Friday 18 September at 8pm. Her songs will feature Patrick Channon on bass, Nick Watts on guitar and Bethany Rose singing backing vocals. She will be joined by special guests: Anna Pancaldi, Dan Wilde & Avi Simmons. Anna Pancaldi is a singer/songwriter who is one to watch following the release of her debut EP Black Tears which charted at number 6 in the itunes singer songwriter charts. Anna has already worked with Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1) and supported acclaimed acts such as Rita Ora, Rudimental and The Noisettes. This led her to work with Grammy award winning producer Simon Gogerly (U2, Paloma Faith, No Doubt) and producers such as Carassius Gold (Laurel, Jack Garratt) and Huntsmen (Foals, Scott Matthews). This is a unique chance to see Anna in Canterbury. He has been described by DIY Magazine as “something really quite special” and Eclectically Challenged Blog described him as "a fantastic songwriting talent who without a doubt will deserve and demand your attention". The Unthanks Thursday 29th October 2015 – 7.30pm Theatre Royal Margate Rather than embarking on some grand celebration, The Unthanks are quietly marking their 10th anniversary this year with a short tour of small intimate spaces, with a paired back line-up, their feeling being that if folk music is a lifelong pursuit, 10 years is just a drop in the ocean. And in the same respect, rather than putting out an exploitative ‘best of’, a release of rarities, live recordings, memorabilia and unreleased material will accompany the tour. Nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and the only British folk representation in The Guardian’s and Uncut’s best albums of last decade (worldwide, all genres), The Unthanks have an army of notable fans, including actor Martin Freeman, Elvis Costello, Colin Firth, Robert Wyatt, Ben Folds, Ryan Adams, Rosanne Cash, members of Portishead and Radiohead, Dawn French, Paul Morley, Ewan McGregor, Stephan Mangan, Al Murray, Ade Edmondson and Nick Hornby. The Unthanks is a family affair for Tyneside sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank, with Rachel married to pianist, producer, arranger and composer, Adrian McNally. Using the traditional music of the North East of England as a starting point, the influence of Steve Reich, Miles Davis, Sufjan Stevens, Robert Wyatt, Antony & the Johnsons, King Crimson and Tom Waits can be heard in the band’s 8 albums to date, including Mount the Air, released to huge critical acclaim earlier this year.

The Nutcracker Moscow Ballet Wednesday 28th October De La Warr Pavilion Bexhill All is quiet in the great house…Clara creeps Downstairs...The Christmas Tree stands alone…In the darkness, through the curtains, the moonlight beams onto the colourful presents offered there. It’s midnight, the clock strikes heralding in the spirit of Christmas…Yet something stirs in the darkness beyond and thus unfolds this magical festive tale of The Nutcracker.
Reckless Sleepers Thursday 29th – Friday 30th October Gulbenkian Theatre In 2014 Reckless Sleepers started putting the pieces of Negative Space together. They built a wooden frame and lined it with plasterboard and for several weeks started smashing up, smashing down, and then piecing the fragments of their destruction into creating a new theatre project making what they now call Negative Space. A sister project to Schrödinger they opened up this black box world turning it upside down and the wrong way round, broke all of the rules that they had spent years establishing and made something new. The stage is a blank canvas, occupied only by one chair, one man and one woman desperately setting the stage. But it grows. And it Grows. Until it becomes something so fantastical that you barely believe it’s happening. It’s a love story. It’s a slapstick comedy. It’s a slasher, an action, a melodrama and not a single word is spoken throughout. Soon all these different stories are spiralling around each other before they start smashing towards the project’s conclusion and it is Intense. ‘To say I was on the edge of my seat the entire time is an understatement. Reckless Sleepers have set the bar very high with their latest project and have left each audience member desperate for more ‘ Hannah Whiston.

Sadie & The Hotheads + The Nelson Brothers Saturday 31st October Revelation St Marys Ashford Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe nominated Elizabeth McGovern shines with her musical project Sadie and the Hotheads – a carefully put together project with a world of musical influences, from 60s pop to country, folk and jazz and touches of Celtic song.. It all started in 2007 when Elizabeth, long given to writing and strumming, responded to an ad for a guitar teacher and engaged the services of Steve Nelson. Steve was – and, indeed, still is – one of the

Nelson Brothers, along with Simon, a much admired act in the British country-roots scene. The pair hit it off and soon Steve was not only helping with Elizabeth’s playing but also her writing. It wasn’t long before Simon, a breathtaking guitarist himself, was on board along with chums, including drummer Rowan Oliver from electro-pop act Goldfrapp, creating the extraordinary album I Can Wait. Since then Sadie and the Hotheads have toured and released three albums to critical acclaim, filled with brilliant collaborations and musicians such as Grammy and Emmy award-winning producer Kipper Eldridge (a veteran of several platinumselling Sting albums) at the helm of their third album Still Waiting, also featuring guest appearances from guitarist Mike Rutherford as well as Nashville star Gretchen Peters. “She glows like a superstar here in front of a delighted crowd with awestruck praise.” – The Telegraph.

The Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company present a week of Gilbert & Sullivan Monday 2nd – Saturday 7th November White Rock Theatre Hastings The Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company are the finest professional performers of G&S to be found anywhere in the world. Not without reason The Mikado is one of the most popular of the Savoy Opera and has delighted audiences for more than a century. HMS Pinafore is one of the most popular and well-known of the G&S operas and overflows with Gilbert's wittiest characters and Sullivan’s most memorable music. The story takes place aboard HMS Pinafore where the Captain’s daughter, Josephine, falls in love with a lower-class sailor instead of her father’s choice, the First Lord of the Admiralty, Sir Joseph Porter. This charming story pokes fun at the Royal Navy, parliamentary politics and the rise of unqualified people to positions of authority. Simply a joy! Starring Richard Gauntlett as Sir Joseph Porter. Marco and Guiseppe, the handsome Palmieri brothers, lead a charmed life as gondoliers in sunny Venice. They can take their pick of the pretty contadine and merrily marry Gianetta and Tessa. But the arrival of the Spanish aristocracy presents a royal dilemma when it is revealed that one of them is now the King of Barataria, who as a baby, was entrusted into the care of a drunken gondolier who mixed up the prince with his own son. The brothers must travel to Barataria and rule the kingdom jointly until the truth can be determined. Their two wives are delighted with the idea of one of them being queen but to their horror discover that the King was married to Casilda in babyhood. The final complicating factor is that Casilda is in love with another man. How will the problem be solved? The Signalman and The Waiting Room Monday 2nd – Wednesday 4th November Orchard Theatre Dartford Middle Ground Theatre Company presents their hugely successful adaptation of Charles Dickens’ The Signalman. Set in 1880, this is the exquisitely unnerving tale of a tormented signalman who is haunted by visions of impending disaster on his isolated stretch of line. Can a well meaning traveller calm the man’s fears before he spirals into self-destruction? The show is coupled with the World Stage Premiere of Robert Aickman’s The Waiting Room. Having missed his connection, George Pendlebury is forced to spend a night alone in Casterton’s old station waiting room. Frozen half to death, he awakes after midnight to find that, perhaps, he is not alone after all….. Award-winning veteran actor Jack Shepherd has a long and distinguished career in film, television and on stage. His awards include a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award, a Plays and Players London Critics’ Award, and a Time Out Award. He is probably best known for his portrayal of Detective Superintendent Charles Wycliffe in the television series Wycliffe. He is joined by Richard Walsh (12 years as Albert Sicknote Quigley in ITV's London's Burning) plus a full supporting cast. A perfect way to spend a dark autumn evening...
The Staves Friday 6th November De La Warr Pavilion Bexhill Just one listen to Blood I Bled EP will tell you The Staves have changed since their debut album was released in 2012. Of course, the sisters haven't abandoned their beautiful, signature close harmonies, but they have bolstered them with a clutch of multi-layered, hugely ambitious songs, recorded with the scale and confidence that can only come after three years on the road. The aforementioned Blood I Bled opens The Staves' forthcoming second album If I Was, and was indeed the first track written, recorded, and released from the album, hinting at the world of possibilities Emily, Jessica and Camilla have gone on to explore. "It almost made it onto the first album," says Camilla, "but it just wasn't ready. It didn't sit with anything else and we didn't really know how to finish it off." The song lay dormant while they performed all over the world, including appearing alongside Mumford & Sons during their Glastonbury headlining slot in 2013 and several tours with American cult heroes Bon Iver.
Mari Wilson – Ready Steady Girls Saturday 14th November Astor Theatre Deal In 2000 Mari was the obvious choice to play Dusty Springfield on the hugely successful UK tour of Dusty the Musical. Following her sell out 2014 shows - Mari Sings Dusty - Mari launches her brand new show Ready Steady Girls featuring unique interpretations of the songs that influenced her as she was growing up, including iconic classics by Dusty, Petula, Cilla and others. Join Mari on her personal, emotional and often hilarious journey through life. “For a smooth evening with just a hint of theatricality and the perfect entertainment, Mari Wilson is one you really shouldn’t miss. “ Harry Dean, Gay Times “Wilson is not one for scripted repartee between songs: one gets the impression that she is happy to talk just enough to drive the evening towards the next song. Which, when the singing is as good as this, is understandable.” Scott Matthewman, Musical Theatre Review

Paul Malsom and the Nocasters
Those who have seen Paul Malsom before will associate him with his superb guitar based latin jazz tunes, now, be prepared to see Paul in a new light, and hear a different style of music! Paul’s early guitar influences came from the likes of Led Zeppelins’s Jimmy Page, his new “Blues” based trio have a wide ranging repertoire incorporating some Jazz, still with his exquisite guitar, but now with the addition of Bass, drums and vocals, you’ll hear, Boogaloo, New Orleans and Nashville influences in a lot of the material . Some of the Jazzier elements are very much in the style of Robben Ford and there is a Soul flavour, influenced by some of Robert Crays recordings. Some Classic Blues by the Three Kings, BB, Albert and Freddie,….all with Paul’s slightly funky interpretations, and of course, material from the likes of ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin give that more modern blues /rock feel. Bookings can be made on 07891 747287, Or telephone John on 07785 348108. www.paulmalsom.co.uk
Tankus The Henge
The world of Tankus the Henge is uplifting and wild, dark and heartfelt. A six piece powerhouse of a band drawing visual and musical influences from old time Fairgrounds to modern day Circus; The Beatles to Tom Waits and Gogol Bordello to Radiohead, they embody a look and a sound that lies somewhere between their South East London home and the carnival town of New Orleans. With their charismatic frontman, Jaz Delorean, looking like a lost character from a Terry Gilliam film and the pump and grind of the Tankus the Henge sound generating a groove that makes it impossible to stand still, their live show ebbs and flows like a small boat on a turbulent sea. Any other band who billed themselves as “the most fantastic band in the world” would rightly quake in their boots at having to live up to such fanfare. Tankus the Henge defy you to contradict them!
