Local swimmers took on the 5km Generation Homes La Grande swim in Akaroa on Saturday, with Richmond swimmer Abbey Smale finishing fourth overall to take the women's title. Wellington winner Luke Kelly added to the Nelson success story, finishing second on Saturday. More than 300 swimmers aged from 12 to more than 80 took on the turbulent crossing of the harbour from Wainui to Akaroa, with cold, rough conditions providing a challenge to navigation and endurance. In addition to Luke and Abbey's overall success, Nelson's Terry Bone broke into the top ten
