July is here! Some might argue that it’s the best month of the year for this little coastal gem of a community. School is a distant memory and not too close in the future. Every summer, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia for the carefree days of my youth in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Those were the days of unstructured play with no camps or screens to keep us busy. Hitting the South End all day and riding bikes all evening, stopping only to catch lightning bugs and chase the ice cream man.

In this issue, we aim to capture the essence

In our cover story, we meet Dr. Alexis Parcells, a former Spring Lake lifeguard who became a highly regarded plastic surgeon and has launched her own skin-care line. Be sure to seek out our story on the A Walk On Water (AWOW) event held in collaboration with Hammer Surf. This transformative surf therapy program is a highlight each June. For all the wine lovers out there, we have the top 10 picks for everyone’s favorite summer wine, rosé, from Cynthia Murray, co-owner of The Bottle Shop.

As we dive headfirst into summer, I encourage each of you to embrace the season’s carefree vibe. Ditch your phone, hop on your bike and go! I wish you all a summer filled with golden moments and cherished memories.

The chair of the Spring Lake Kitchen Tour offers a preview of this year’s hot-ticket event.

The Spring Lake Kitchen Tour is a feast for the senses—an event that lets guests follow a self-guided circuit that takes them to kitchens inside some of Spring Lake’s most beautiful homes and local landmarks. This event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the H.W. Mountz School. We checked in with Spring Lake resident and event chair Marie Reed to find out more about this popular experience. Reed is a REALTOR ASSOCIATE with The Gallery Residential Brokerage on Morris Avenue, founder of Marie Reed Homes and a proud mother of two current Mountz students and one graduate. She spent most of her career on Wall Street. Reed also is a private home designer, and the Reeds’ Madison Avenue home was featured on the most recent Spring Lake kitchen and historical society house tours. Now in its 21st year, the kitchen tour is set to take place on Saturday, October 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reed explains what’s in store.

Kerry Serzan is a local freelance writer and mom of four.

What can kitchen tour attendees expect this year?

Stops on our tour will present spectacular homes, each styled by its own designated designer, florist, culinary artisan and sponsors. Guests will be inspired by the work of local builders, kitchen designers, architects and decorators while enjoying tasteful bites provided by local chefs and caterers. We’ll also celebrate our Spring Lake Community House with a special tour of this historic icon.

What should people know about tickets?

Tickets can be purchased on our website, www.springlakekitchentour.com. This year, a select number of VIP tickets will be available in addition to general admission. Tickets generally sell out quickly, so it’s a good idea to purchase them early. General admission costs $85; VIP admission costs $150.

On the morning of the tour, general admission tour goers can pick up their tickets at Spring Lake train station. There, they will have the option of taking a trolley from stop to stop or using their own transportation. VIP ticket holders will pick up their tickets at the Community House and enjoy an earlier check-in time.

We are thrilled to be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Community House, which will be open to all tour participants, offering a unique and memorable experience. VIPs will start their day there 45 minutes earlier than the general start time and enjoy an enhanced Community House experience, with refreshments and local entertainment. VIPs also will not have to wait in line at any tour locations and will receive something special in their tour swag bag.

Who gets involved with this fun community event?

It brings together so many different facets of the community. All proceeds from ticket sales go directly toward programs for H.W. Mountz students. The school’s parents, alumni, faculty and staff are among the volunteers. We also partner with the Spring Lake Historical Society and the Spring Lake Chamber of Commerce. The trolley makes a stop downtown to support local businesses and restaurants. And of course, there’s wonderful support from the Community House as well as the library and train station.

Alexis Parcells, MD, FACS, a boardcertified plastic surgeon and skin care entrepreneur, is making waves in Monmouth County’s medical and beauty space. Born and raised in New Jersey, she considers Spring Lake her hometown and has come full circle, transforming the lives of women in her community through her expertise and passion.

It All Began in Spring Lake

Growing up in Spring Lake, Dr. Parcells has deep roots in the community. While her family became full-time residents during her college years, her formative years were filled with cherished memories of playing UNO under the boardwalk at the North End Pavilion and indulging in ice cream from Hoffman’s with friends.

Dr. Parcells was an ocean lifeguard during her college years at Georgetown University, and it was during this time she was diagnosed with melanoma on her

back. This experience deeply influenced her commitment to protecting her skin and promoting sun safety. Recognizing the importance of early prevention, she now advocates for the use of SPF and sunprotective products, emphasizing that it is never too early to start.

Committed to Medicine

Dr. Parcells pursued higher education and met her husband, Bert, during medical school. They completed surgical residencies at Rutgers University, deepening their commitment to serving the local community. Returning to Monmouth County was a natural choice for them, where they now live with their two daughters and family dog.

Empowering Women

Collaborating with a dedicated team of talented women, Dr. Parcells and her staff are passionate about providing patients with

exceptional experiences and results. Her expertise lies in reconstructive and cosmetic breast and body surgery, where she skillfully helps women achieve their desired outcomes.

Skincare Innovation

Beyond her surgical practice, Dr. Parcells has delved into the world of skin care with her own brand, SUNNIE. Created with a focus on clean and clinical formulations, SUNNIE offers SPF skin protection and proactive aging solutions. products. Driven by inclusivity, the skin care line is suitable for all skin tones and stages of life, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, and menopause. She has also developed ScarSmooth, a 3-step system that reduces the appearance and texture of scars. SUNNIE products can be found in local Monmouth County shops, as well as online and on Amazon.

For a better understanding of sunscreen and how to use it effectively, read the article by Dr. Parcells on the next page.

Sunscreen Questions—

What you need to know about protecting your skin from the sun

How do sunscreens work?

Summer is officially here, bringing endless opportunities for outdoor fun. But with warm temperatures and abundant sunshine come peak exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, making sunscreen a must-have item in every home, tote and beach bag. But how much do you know about this essential skin protector? Here are answers to some of the most common sunscreen questions people ask me.

Mineral, or physical, sunscreen consists of active ingredients that form a physical barrier against the sun. This blocks dangerous UV rays from entering your skin, altering your DNA and creating permanent damage. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide were once thick and goopy, but more modern formulas are easier to apply and provide a smoother base for makeup.  Chemical sunscreens use active ingredients that absorb the sun’s rays and release them as heat through the skin. Common chemical sunscreen compounds include octanoate, oxybenzone and avobenzone. These tend to be lighter and have more of a sheer effect, and are commonly used in spray sunscreens. An example is The Protector by SUNNIE, a medical-grade sunscreen that offers SPF 40 and is fragrance-free, non-greasy and not tested on animals.

Why is sunscreen—no matter what form—important?

Both chemical and mineral sunscreens work to protect the skin from sun damage and decrease your risk of skin cancer. A proper application will prevent burns. The key here is compliance. Find a formula that works for you and stick to it. Getting into the habit of applying sunscreen daily will keep your skin protected and hydrated.

How should spray sunscreen be applied? And how often?

Sunscreen needs to work correctly to protect your skin. Your skin’s tone and photosensitivity often determine how long a particular SPF, or sun protection factor, will be effective against UV rays that eventually cause skin damage.

As a general rule, SPF 35+ should be applied first thing in the morning. If you’ll be exposed to the sun for more than two hours, consider using a higher SPF and reapplying sunscreen frequently, especially after you get out of the pool or ocean.

When you buy your sunscreen, write the date of purchase on the bottle to avoid expiration. The FDA requires that manufacturers make their products stable for three years. If your sunscreen has been left out in the sun, smells off or appears chalky, throw it out.

Alexis

Is sunscreen safe to spray over makeup?

First off, SPF in makeup alone is not sufficient—think of it as a bonus to your SPF base layer. When you first wake up, cleanse your face, apply SPF moisturizer and then apply your makeup.

www.sunnieskin.com/@sunnieskin

Then, yes, spraying SPF over makeup as a final step can be effective as long as you are not frequently sweating it off.

Parcells, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing in Monmouth County. She is also the founder of SUNNIE Skin, a clean, cruelty-free and clinical skin-care line available at www.alexisparcellsmd.com/ @alexisparcellsmd and

Opening Doors to Historical Homes

Spring Lake Historical Society showcases the community’s past in an annual tour.

From century-old residences to new historic revivals, there was something for everyone who took part in the 42nd annual Spring Lake Historical Society House Tour. Held June 8, ticketed guests could visit multiple sites during the event, which celebrated “spring time in old Spring Lake.”

In addition to five private homes, patrons toured St. Catharine Church on Essex Avenue, the Spring Lake Community House, Sundae Times ice cream parlor on Atlantic Avenue and the Historical Society’s museum.

“It’s wonderful to be able to see what our forebears did and how they laid the foundation for all that we enjoy now,” says Elaine Traynor, a Historical Society volunteer who guided visitors through the museum on tour day and owns a historical home on Sussex Avenue. “A lot of people in town appreciate our old and beautiful history and have done great work renovating and making a 21st century home while maintaining the history and charm.”

The museum, located on the second floor of the municipal building at Fifth and Warren Avenues, is a must-see for anyone interested in Spring Lake history. Its Permanent Exhibit Gallery chronicles the history of the area through a collection of photographs, artifacts and rare items. Three exhibits in the museum’s Changing Exhibit Gallery currently highlight the history of the Spring Lake Community House, which is celebrating its 100th year; Spring Lake’s incorporation as a town in 1892; and municipal leadership in a retrospective honoring the town’s mayors.

Strolling Through the Past

Participants received event tickets and maps at the Spring Lake train station and enjoyed coffee and refreshments before embarking on self-guided ventures.

“The town is aesthetically so pleasing, especially at this time of year with all the flowers in bloom,” said Carol Boutilier as she prepared to set out on the tour. “I remember being a kid and riding my bike through town admiring all the architecture of the older homes, each of them so different.”

“I’m excited to see what it’s like inside some of these historic homes,” said Boutilier’s neighbor Rebecca Mimnaugh, who joined her friend on the tour. “I’m especially excited to see what the ocean looks like from inside the Passaic house.”

That residence, called Gretamere, at 2 Passaic Avenue, was built in 1898 as a summer home for Col. James Schoonmaker. Gretamere’s present owners have taken care to restore the fine details and elegant architectural character of the Beaux-Arts period home. Stand-out features include a wraparound porch, Corinthian columns, balconies embellished with pilasters and corbels, an imposing mantle, oak staircase and original cherry floors. As the society’s tour booklet noted, “nothing has been lost and truly much has been gained with the restoration of Gretamere,” a name referring to the colonel’s daughter, Gretchen.

Houses of Worship and Commerce

St. Catharine Church also derives its name from a child of its founder. It was constructed in 1901 by wealthy philanthropist Martin Maloney to honor a daughter who died of tuberculosis at age 17. Built of limestone and buff Pompeian brick, the church’s design was inspired by the Roman Renaissance and Baroque periods and is a highstyle example of classical revival architecture. As explained by a docent, the many stunning canvases, frescos and tapestries adorning the church’s interior highlight the histories of the church, Ireland and the Maloney family.

A literal sweet spot of the day was the Sundae Times, a “delightful old-new part of Spring Lake history,” where tourgoers were invited to enjoy complimentary ice cream samples throughout the afternoon. Formerly called Peterson’s, the shop occupies a space that housed the D.H. Hills Drug Co. pharmacy for decades. The building was constructed after a 1900 fire that destroyed the original Monmouth Hotel and most of the southend commercial district.

The Spring Lake Historical Society’s museum is open through Labor Day on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to noon. For more information on the society and the tour, call 732-449-0772 or visit www. springlakehistoricalsociety.org.

Tour stops included (opposite) St. Catharine Church, (top) Gretamere and (bottom) Sundae Times along with the Historical Society’s museum and refreshments along the way. Pearl of Sea Girt

Just a stone’s throw from the shore in Sea Girt stands the iconic Parker House—a white, clapboard Victorian rooming house that has faithfully served as a haven offering food, drink, fun and relaxation since its establishment in 1878.

A local landmark for generations, The Parker House evokes history right down to the origins of its name.

Legend has it that in 1878, original owner and skilled cook Thomas Devlin found himself at a loss for an appropriate name for his new hotel. Seeking a solution, his wife, Airenda, jotted down 20 names and placed them in a hat. Mr. Devlin randomly drew the name “Joel Parker,” an homage to the former New Jersey governor who had served during the Civil War. Thus

christened, The Parker House opened its doors to guests and went on to become the longestrunning business in Sea Girt.

In the late 1970s, when The Parker House was a popular summer gathering spot, three local partners and lifelong friends seized the opportunity to purchase the building. As other venues closed their doors, these owners were determined to preserve The Parker House, ensure its continued success and safeguard this cherished piece of Sea Girt history.

Community Bonds

Today, sons, daughters and one of the original partners now oversee operations, maintaining The Parker House as a thriving family business and upholding traditions they hold dear.

The sense of family extends from owners to employees. Grandchildren of the original owners as well as children from numerous local families proudly work at The Parker House. It has become a popular choice for summer jobs, with many employees returning year after year, some for more than two decades.

A strong bond also exists between the establishment and its patrons, as local families establish their own summer traditions and memories centered around The Parker House. Young men and women who are finally old enough to order a cocktail recall Parker House lunches with grandparents. Couples who met or got engaged there celebrate their love stories— many of them in a section of The Parker House website where they can share their romantic

recollections. Some couples have even named their children Parker—a testament to the establishment’s enduring legacy.

Visitors flock to The Parker House for a multitude of reasons—to savor a leisurely lunch or dinner on the beautiful wraparound porch; grab a Parker House souvenir; or indulge in offerings such as craft beer, clams and mini-burgers at the side-porch raw bar after a day at the beach. On Wednesdays, Lobster Night draws crowds to the main porch for delectable local catches. (This season, Lobster Night expands into the main bar with dinner at high-top tables accompanied by live acoustic music.)

The Parker House also hosts special events (usually on Thursdays), including book signings by authors such as Elin Hilderbrand and numerous local and charitable events such as Sea Girt Fire Company #1’s 19th annual Parker House Fundraiser on Thursday, August 17, from 7 to 11 p.m.

An In-Demand Destination

Not surprisingly, The Parker House truly comes alive on weekend nights when it transforms into a summer party destination. A queue of youthful celebrants can often be seen eagerly awaiting entry into the downstairs tavern affectionately known as God’s Basement—a curious name possibly linked to the days when Sunday Mass was held in the main-floor dining area before the town had a Catholic church. Meantime, the rest of the house offers ample space, including the main-floor bar, dining room and back porch.

Adding to its allure, The Parker House is also still a historic hotel boasting 32 highly coveted seasonal rental rooms on the second and third floors.

Looking back over 145 years of uninterrupted operation, the current owners are as committed as their forebears to safeguarding this cherished, historic gem, hoping that their children and grandchildren will carry it forward for the next 145 years and beyond.

The Healing Power of Hanging Ten

Hammer Surf School teams with a nonprofit organization to let kids with special needs ride the waves.

Cheers from crowds gathered on the beach could be heard from the boardwalk each time a wide-eyed, smiling kid stood and rode a wave into shore. Riding tandem with a surf therapist for the day, each of the children with unique needs became an athlete who defied expectations and opened a new world of connection with the ocean.

The cheers continued for two days during the annual A Walk on Water (AWOW) Surf Therapy event held the first weekend of June on Remsen Avenue. For dozens of special needs children and their families, it was an opportunity to use the ocean as an agent of hope and happiness.

Hosted by Hammer Surf School, the event focused on connecting special needs children with the healing powers of the sea. Owner Sam Hammer teamed with the California-based nonprofit AWOW organization to provide a safe surfing experience for participating children and their families.

“It’s really touching,” Hammer says. “You’re providing an experience to someone who would never have the opportunity to do something like this, and all it’s costing you is your time. We’re just lucky to pass along the joy of surfing and share our love of the ocean with other people.”

There was no shortage of shaka signs and high fives as athletes and their volunteer surf instructors geared up in wetsuits to brave the chilly, late spring water. Parents stood on the shore ready to record the moment their child hopped to their feet. You could see bonds of trust build between athletes and instructors as wave after wave rolled through and duos glided into shore.

Rounding out each session was a trophy ceremony in which participants received a small wooden surfboard and posed for a final photo and hug with their new surf-therapist friend.

Community Support

Since 2012, AWOW has connected surf communities all over the country with thousands of families to introduce loved ones to the ocean and transform them into athletes. With professional surfers and trained surf therapists, AWOW and Hammer Surf School create a safe, secure environment for local kids to learn about the ocean and develop a love of surfing.

Deciding to hold the event in Spring Lake was an easy call for Hammer. With experience hosting successful charity events at his other surf camp location in Lavallette, he knew that Remsen Avenue could handle the volume of people needed to run a large charity operation like AWOW.

With the backing of Mayor Jennifer Naughton and the community, Hammer connected with AWOW event coordinators and launched the first local event in 2018.

“The town is so supportive, and they trust us to host events like this,” Hammer says. “It’s held over two days with 50 athletes participating each day and just as many people volunteering.”

Local sponsors and donors including Bare Wires Surf Shop, Bagel Basket Café, Surf Taco, Playa Bowls, Divi Tree Coffee, Benny’s Pizza, Lava Java House, FINS Tropicali Cuisine and Jersey Mike’s helped feed attendees and keep each day’s events running smoothly.

A small group of athletes returns to the beach during the summer to continue developing their love of surfing. Adam Holloway of Bare Wires Surf Shop in Spring Lake recognizes the lasting impact of surf therapy and lends a hand during these sessions.

Having a family member with Down syndrome, Holloway understands that the athletes are not defined by their limitations and can do far more than people may assume. Whether kids communicate well or not, when they hit the water, something special happens.

Bare Wires team riders, surf shop customers and Holloway’s children all volunteer for the AWOW event. But it’s the ripple effect the event has on participants’ families that keeps

Holloway coming back each year.

“There are families coming from as far as Connecticut and upstate New York to attend this event, and it means so much to them to see their children so happy,” Holloway said. “The families get a break on the beach, and it’s a chance for them to relax.”

To celebrate the weekend of surfing, a fundraiser in support of AWOW took place at Beach Haus Brewery. Donated items for raffle prizes came from local vendors, including Spring Lake surfboard shaper Charles Mencel, who contributed a handcrafted Mencel board.

Volunteers and surf therapists at Hammer Surf School say they are forever inspired by the AWOW program’s athletes. A lasting connection between the families and the entire surf community of Spring Lake—one of acceptance, love and support—will keep a passion for surfing alive for years to come.

Children with special needs and their families enjoyed two days of guided surfing through the efforts of the nonprofit A Walk on Water, local host Hammer Surf School and a generously supportive community.

Think Pink

Our rosé guide will help you enjoy the versatile pleasures of a wine in its peak season.

At the Jersey Shore, we look forward to summer because it means the sun is shining, beaches are open, schools are out—and rosé season has officially begun!

Eternally chic, fun, tasty and tantalizing, dry rosé first became popularized on the cosmopolitan beaches of Europe. The Provence region in the South of France put this pink elixir on the map, with vintners blending local Grenache and Syrah grapes from breezy vineyards on the Mediterranean Sea to produce a lovely, dry wine—best served chilled—with alluring aromas of flowers, spices and herbs.

Once dry rosé became a global sensation, more regions began to explore its production—because winemakers love drinking rosé, too! Using red grape varieties that experience a briefer period of skin contact with the juice than is the case when crafting a red wine, dry rosé is a great option whether someone likes red or white.

Rosé plays well with a multitude of dishes and cuisines. White fish, salmon, tuna, shellfish and sushi; chicken, pork and turkey; salads, cheeses, olives and charcuterie; burgers, hot dogs, red meats and pasta; spicy foods and Mediterranean fare— the amazingly versatile dry rosé matches it all!

In recent years, some of the most intriguing rosé wines have hailed from places like the Loire

Valley in Northern France. Two examples are Sancerre rosé, made of 100 percent pinot noir, and Chinon rosé, which is 100 percent cabernet franc. These have a more mineral character than their Provençale counterparts and are more structured, very crisp, quite dry and glorious with highquality seafood.

On islands like Corsica or in Puglia on the Adriatic Sea, dry rosé tastes light, breezy, fresh and mouthwatering. You can imagine a platter of conservas, cheeses, olives and cured meats with a pink shimmering glass of rosé overlooking the sea. In Tuscany, winemakers produce beautiful, deeply colored rosato that envelops your palate with ripe cherry, sweet herb and licorice notes, yet still is completely dry. Another outpost worth mentioning is Slovenia, with wonderfully salty, tangy, organic rosés. And a singular California estate is blending organic Piemontese grapes to make a rose petal-, cherry- and plumflavored beauty.

We love to drink rosé all year round, but summer is its high season, so let this refreshing and deservedly popular seasonal favorite enhance your shore experience.

The Lowdown on Wisdom Teeth

A guide to understanding removal and recovery

Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the last set of teeth to emerge in the late teens or early 20s. While some people have no issues with their wisdom teeth, many face complications that necessitate removal. Here’s an overview of when and why wisdom teeth may need to be extracted, what’s involved and what to expect after the procedure.

When Wisdom Teeth Need to Go

One common issue that can require wisdom teeth removal is insufficient space in the jaw, which can lead wisdom teeth to become impacted. Impaction occurs when the teeth grow at an angle or don’t fully erupt, potentially causing pain, infection and damage to neighboring teeth. Wisdom teeth can also be challenging to clean properly, making them prone to decay and gum disease.

The Surgical Procedure

Wisdom tooth extraction is typically performed by an oral surgeon or a dentist with specialized training. Prior to the surgery, a thorough examination, including dental X-rays, is conducted to determine the tooth’s position and plan the extraction. The surgery is performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the case and the patient’s preference. During the procedure, an incision is made in the gum tissue to access the tooth.

In some cases, a portion of the bone covering the tooth may need to be removed. The tooth is then gently extracted, and the incision is sutured.

Recovery and Downtime

Following wisdom tooth extraction, it’s normal to experience swelling, discomfort and mild bleeding. Pain medication and ice packs can help alleviate these symptoms. Follow postoperative instructions such as maintaining proper oral hygiene and avoiding hard or chewy foods that can irritate the surgical site.

The recovery period varies from person to person, but it generally takes about a week to 10 days to resume normal activities. Most people can return to work or school within a few days, depending on their comfort level. Physical exercise and strenuous activities should be avoided for at least a week to ensure proper healing.

Final Considerations

Understanding wisdom teeth and the potential need for their removal is essential for all patients, including youth and parents. If you or your child experiences pain, swelling or other complications related to wisdom teeth, consulting with a dental professional is crucial. With proper care and guidance, the process of wisdom tooth extraction can be managed smoothly, leading to a healthier and happier smile.

Summer Selections

Recommended beach reads from Thunder Road Books

Some people think a beach read should have a summer backdrop or a character taking time off. But we define beach reads as books that hook you from the start. Here are some recent favorites that fit the bill.

• THE SPECTACULAR

The author’s seventh extensively researched novel of historical fiction comes with a thriller twist. Aspiring dancer Marion Brooks dreams of making it into the Rockettes and living life in the Big Apple. Kick lines, sold-out shows and limelight are at the forefront of Radio City glitz and glamour until the Big Apple Bomber threatens the safety of the audience and dancers.

• HAPPY PLACE

Harriet and Wyn have been together since college. But when they meet up with friends to reconnect for an annual getaway in Maine, the gang doesn’t know that the couple broke up five months ago. Not wanting to ruin

everyone’s much-needed vacation, they fake it. Playing their roles for the people who know them best, Emily Henry’s flawed characters will charm you—and leave you craving a lobster roll.

• ALL THE SINNERS BLEED

Titus Crown has spent years as an FBI agent and now is back in his hometown, where the bigoted police force inspires him to become the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County. Written in S.A. Cosby’s gripping and distinctive voice, this follow-up to the author’s blockbuster “Razorblade Tears” is a timely, must-read crime novel.

• THE CELEBRANTS

Over the years, Jordan Vargas and college friends Naomi, Jordy, Craig and Marielle have honored a decades-old pact to reunite and throw each other living “funerals”— celebrations to remind themselves that their lives mean something. As they gather for the

first time in five years, they learn how life can sometimes get in the way of living, time can quickly fly and “framilies”—friends who are like family—are among the most instrumental people in our lives.

• REBELS AT SEA: Privateering in the American Revolution by Eric

Nothing beats sitting on the beach and reading about maritime history. Eric Jay Dolin shows how privateers fought much of the American Revolution’s war at sea, with over 2,000 privately owned vessels—mostly refitted merchant ships—setting sail against the British with permission from the new government to seize British merchantmen and men-of-war. This book offers a fascinating, little-known chronicle of America’s early naval history.

Elder Care Testimonial from VP of Disney:

Carol Fleres was unbelievably professional throughout the process of selling my elderly parent's home. She was incredibly astute in her understanding of the market in which she worked, completely unflappable in the face of all those challenges that arise when selling a home, and perseverant beyond belief. She got the home sold at about the asking price in less than a month. What was even more so to me was how she handled my folks. At their ages, the stress of selling their family home of 50 years and moving was particularly tough. Carol always had a smile, was incredibly patient with them, and just did what was right and good. I cannot praise her highly enough. Carol has my highest recommendation.
