THE
WOODBURY GUIDE CREAM OF THE CASHMERE CROP
THE STITCH OF QUALITY
Superior footwear goes beyond labels and logos—material and stitching most often separate the best from the rest. Magnanni has elevated itself above all companies with its iconic Artesano Stitch, using this technique from its beginnings 67 years ago in Almansa, Spain, to present day. The method links past to present, as shoemakers then and now work by hand to connect the sole to the upper portion of each shoe with double-needle threading. Waxed thread secures each seam, and the stitch work produces a distinct pattern that catches eyes in every setting, from the boardroom to the red carpet. So, when you wear Magnanni monk straps, loafers, oxfords and more, rest assured that you’re in footwear that has long-lasting strength and enduring style. Try on your next pair of Magnanni shoes during your next visit to Woodbury Mens Shop.
Not all sweaters are created equally, and Fioroni Cashmere sets the standard—a very high standard. Though the brand was officially launched in 2008, the Fioroni family began their cashmere business more than 40 years ago in the Lake Trasimeno region of Italy. Their small workshop had one tailor and one sewing machine, but they hand produced the finest garments sourcing the best cashmere from China, Mongolia, Afghanistan and India while relying on the mineral-rich lake water. The company’s artisans today (there are about 30 of them) remain true to the original methods: Each cardigan and sweater is still assembled by hand and finished with exclusive hand-sewn details. And before each garment leaves the factory, it must pass a series of quality tests to ensure it can carry the Fioroni name. Raise the bar in your cashmere game by picking up a new Fioroni sweater at Woodbury Mens Shop.
A READ FOR SPEED
FALL/WINTER 2021
Whether your first car was a Dodge Viper or a humble Ford sedan, you probably put pedal to the metal once or twice and dreamed of being a Formula One racer. Life’s become more sensible since then, but somewhere deep inside those dreams survive. So take a look at Formula 1: The Impossible Collection (Assouline). In this book, author and former New York Times Formula One reporter Brad Spurgeon describes 100 memorable moments from the previous century that helped catapult F1 to the third spot in popularity (behind the Olympics and World Cup soccer) among the world’s sporting events. With vivid photos, descriptive narratives and insightful interviews, the book highlights races, technological achievements and notable names such as Bruce McLaren, Enzo Ferrari and Michael Schumacher. Consider it the motorsports book to end all books, the winner of the checkered flag.

THE WOODBURY GUIDE OUTERWEAR DEDICATED TO MAN
When you decide to purchase Manto outerwear, you’re buying more than just a label: You’re interested in the value of the Italian brand’s coats and jackets. Founded in and named after Mantua, a town in northern Italy and UNESCO World Heritage Site, this 6-year-old small business is already making a big impact in menswear thanks to its pledge to uphold Italian traditions of design and workmanship. This includes sourcing the best raw materials, employing the finest tailors to sew each jacket and researching innovative styles and fabrics. That dedication is a guarantee that Manto garments are made for those who care for quality as much as aesthetics. Men who wear Manto belong to an exclusive club, as the coats and jackets are only available at the world’s best specialty stores, including Woodbury Mens Shop. Stop by the store today and let us introduce you to Manto, so you can join the club.
GIVING KIDS A PLACE TO CALL HOME
The COVID pandemic has been hard on all of us in different ways. Last year when school closed, it was particularly taxing on kids who didn’t have a safe or caring place to study. Since 2019, the number of foster beds has decreased by 10 percent and the number of children entering foster care has increased 30 percent. Hope For Youth, a Long Islandbased foster care agency, has been working overtime to increase the number of homes and families accepting foster children. “Project 21” is designed to ensure that every youth in care has a home to come back to after a long day. Hope For Youth offers digital orientations for those interested in becoming foster parents. For more information, contact Tina Basile, Project 21 coordinator, at 631.813.9572.

But if you really want to live like an Italian gentleman, dip into Maria Pasquale’s new book, How to Be Italian: Eat, Drink, Dress, Travel and Love La Dolce Vita (Rizzoli). In it the award-winning journalist touches on everything Italians enjoy, showing us how to savor every moment while indulging in things that simply make us happy: fashion, travel, food and even doing nothing. All of that has been a part of the country’s culture for generations; no wonder some of the greatest artists, designers, thinkers and gourmands have thrived in the boot-shaped land.
WE MAKE HOUSE CALLS

Your favorite associate will come to your home to evaluate what is still in style and what needs to go. We’ll coordinate your existing wardrobe so you know which styles to mix and match, and you’ll learn what pieces are missing and/or need updating for the season. It’s always a good feeling to get rid of dated clothes that are taking up valuable closet space. Please call us at your convenience to set up an appointment. We look forward to hearing from you.

CHEER FOR THE CHECKMATES
Every sport relies on star power—LeBron James and Tom Brady are always must-see TV. But today a quieter game is creating stars of its own: chess. Long considered a pursuit for child prodigies and men’s clubs, chess is garnering a new following. Tournament-tested and world-ranked players are taking their games to social media and live-streaming sites, calling “checkmate” while showing off their chess skills and personalities. They also take on ordinary folks on sites like chess.com. You may not buy jerseys as you do for your favorite athletes—instead, you’ll hit the “follow” or “subscribe” button to show support for the top chess players. If you’re wondering whom to follow, here are four top players: Magnus Carlsen (pictured). It’s easy to mistake this 30-yearold Norwegian for an actor, but he’s all business—sometimes ruthlessly so—on the chessboard when the sportcoat comes off. He’s the world’s top-ranked chess player, a grandmaster (GM) and a pretty good competitor in other games as well: Check out some of his sporty shots on Instagram (@magnus_carlsen). Hikaru Nakamura. Born in Japan but raised in the U.S., Nakamura is a top-20-in-the-world player and one of Carlsen’s biggest rivals. He earned the GM title at 15, becoming the youngest American at the time to achieve that feat. Now 33, he competes in international competitions and matches on chess. com and has fans worldwide thanks to his popular Twitch stream and YouTube channel (GMHikaru on both services). Alexandra Botez. This 25-year-old woman FIDE master is a social media celeb thanks to her prowess on the black-and-white squares. (The initials FIDE stand for the International Chess Federation’s name in French.) Dallas-born, Vancouver-raised Botez competes in global tourneys and against opponents on chess.com, and she’s built a massive fan base thanks to her Twitch and YouTube accounts. The channels (BotezLive on both services) follow her and her chess-playing little sister, Andrea, in their daily activities, such as challenging chess hustlers in New York’s Washington Square and Union Square parks. Keti Tsatsalashvili. A grandmaster since 2010, this 29-yearold Tbilisi, Georgia, native conquered the chess world early, capturing plenty of international titles before she turned 18. Since then she’s added chess commentator to her arsenal of roles, hosting championships and titled tournaments across the globe. Like Botez, she runs an active YouTube channel and Twitch account (LetsChessLive), where she streams her online matches from chess.com.

Jim Foley explains how to sail through life without giving offense. After wearing sweat pants and hoodies for the past year, I’m heading back to the office. What should I wear? —Worried in Woodbury Remember “business casual?” Well, that’s the code word for the new back-to-work fashion. Instead of khakis and polo shirts, try a well-fitted sportcoat (especially if you meet with clients), an open collar sport shirt and the right tailored trousers. Skip the running shoes and wear a fashion sneaker, loafer or polished shoe with a matching belt. We’re slowly returning to some after-work socializing, so on Fridays, swap the trousers for a hip pair of jeans and you’ll be ready to hit your favorite happy hour spot after work.

MUSIC
POP’S PERFECT PAIRINGS
Future-forward vocalist-producer collaborations under the hyperpop umbrella deliver the sound and energy we need now. By Harry Dowden
SOPHIE + CECILE BELIEVE
“It’s Okay To Cry”: The refrain of SOPHIE’s eponymous anthem—sung with passion by Montreal’s Cecile Believe—was the iconic electro-pop sound of the late producer. Sophie Xeon died in January in a sudden accident, a devastating blow to fans. A bright spot in a dark time was seeing just how big SOPHIE’s mark on music was, from tactile early singles to the glimmering textures of the Oil Of Every Pearl’s UnInsides LP. Her uplifting of creators and her own visibly transfemme life opened up gates without compromising an ounce. Believe, who self-produced her own Made in Heaven, is a familiar voice on OOEPUI. She soars over the beautiful “Is It Cold In The Water?” as well as the sonically abrasive shredder “Faceshopping.” Deep Dive: The unreleased closing track of SOPHIE’s 2020 set at LA club night Heav3n, in which Believe sings: “Everybody’s got to own their body/ Everybody wants to be somebody.”
CHARLI XCX + A.G. COOK
A mutually beneficial arrangement: UK’s Charli XCX leverages her pop chart stardom for the creative freedom to team up with fellow Brit A.G. Cook. The producer and curator of the influential collective’s synthed-out, pitched-up sparklers were a few years into reconstructing pop in their own image, but the partnership drastically expanded the platform. It was the Vroom Vroom EP with the aforementioned SOPHIE that got Charli warmed up with the sound, but that was just the start. The now seminal Pop 2 mixtape is where Cook’s executive producer aspirations crystallized and Charli’s songwriting style and ear for guests truly locked into place. Two more projects, Charli and How I’m Feeling Now, feature Cook at the maximalist production helm and Charli honing her chops. The technological interplay between singer and producer is stronger than ever, and the pair’s shared vision is poised to keep shaping pop for years to come. Iconic Tracks: The blissful joyride of “Unlock It” and the twinkling spark of “Detonate”
KERO KERO BONITO
The UK trio of vocalist Sarah Midori Perry and multi-instrumentalists Gus Lobban and Jamie Bulled have been a veritable powerhouse of candy-coated bops since 2013’s Intro Bonito mixtape and breakout hit “Flamingo.” Unlike the exclusively shrimp-eating bird, however, KKB have been omnivorous with their influences. Originally leaning into kawaii culture influences and playful Casio synth sounds, the band has since detoured through various intersections, applying their own quirky stamp. Bonito Generation served as a “Graduation” from their early sound, with LP No. 2 Time ‘n’ Place and the Civilization EP series delivering more serious lyrics and tones. But KKB haven’t lost their smirks: A digital set for A.G. Cook’s Appleville fest (in promotion of his own debut album Apple) saw the trio do some light trolling. The studio-quality sound of “Only Acting” cuts out, revealing each member in their tinny quarantine rooms. It’s all an act, anyway, but does it matter when it sounds so fun? Theme Songs: “It’s Bugsnax!” was a surprise drop last summer, a commissioned song for a Playstation game that fits right into the group’s quirky aesthetic.
100 GECS
| WOODBURY MENS SHOP
The dynamic duo of Laura Les and Dylan Brady blew up fast and loud. A listen will make it quickly apparent that’s how their act, 100 Gecs, likes it. Haters will deride a perceived lack of seriousness without acknowledging that the Gecs are musically committed to many things: Hooks. Drums. More hooks. Sharing vocal and production duties, Brady is currently one of the most indemand beatmakers around, while Les’ solo single “Haunted” indicates some gothy work on the way. 1000 Gecs left a crater in the self-serious pop landscape, the Tree of Clues LP had some great collabs, and this fall’s “10,000 Gecs” tour is a harbinger of doom for speakers across the nation. Live Futures: Minecraft (yes, the video game) became a venue of choice for pandemic-era music fests. One Gecs very online set features early versions of fan favorites “Came To My Show” and “Toothless.”

Japanese Breakfast
TAKING THE SCENIC ROUTE Once you’ve delved into the high-energy acts profiled above (or if they’re simply not your vibe), come down with this playlist of recent tracks. Tailor-made for admiring the natural world, whether it’s on a chill road trip with friends or simply a long sit on the porch, sometimes music and fresh air are all you need. The War On Drugs - “Living Proof” The rambling rock project resurfaces with a roadtrip-ready rumination. Weyes Blood - “Titanic Rising” Melancholic underwater sunlight from the nouveau auteur. SPELLLING - “Turning Wheel” Ambitiously euphoric, lushly collaborative baroque-psych from the Bay Area.
WOOD.fw21.music.indd 14
Connan Mockasin & Ade - “The Wolf” NZ troubadour makes a wholesome yet dense chillout album with his dad. Caroline Polachek - “Bunny Is a Rider” A slinky, taut single featuring signature vocal acrobatics in a summer song package. Clairo - “Blouse” A soft-spoken, layered return from one of indie-pop’s biggest tearjerkers.
Japanese Breakfast - “Posing for Cars” Cathartic closer to the excellent and versatile Jubilee. The Microphones - “Microphones in 2020” Phil Elverum will be touring this 44-minute transcendental opus song/album. It flies by in a lifetime.

RISING STAR
Breakout Moment Thanks to his role on Bridgerton, British actor Regé-Jean Page is drawing major attention—and so are his sartorial choices.
oping, but he knows what he likes. His sartorial style is what he has called “very safe,” typically consisting of turtlenecks and shawl-collar sweaters paired with slim jeans and low-top sneakers—a far cry from the Duke’s romantic formalwear. But, like his alter ego, Page knows how to dress for the occasion. For his February 2021 hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, he opted for a single-breasted black suit jacket and slim black trousers by Alexander McQueen with a jeweled brooch. Then, at the 2021 Screen Actors Guild Awards in April (where he was a nominee), Page wore a dark velvet tuxedo and a printed shirt by Louis Vuitton, which he accessorized with Kurt Geiger London loafers and a diamond huggie earring. “Baseline, you should be able to have fun with your fashion,” he said in a 2020 interview with Who What Wear. “I don’t know how eloquent I am in that language, but I very much admire it.” It’s a shame for many reasons that Page won’t be a part of Bridgerton’s forthcoming second season—word has it that the next slate of episodes will focus on other characters’ relationships rather than Simon and Daphne’s. But fans who burn for Regé-Jean can take comfort in knowing there is a lot more to come from this gem of an actor—sartorially and otherwise.
Phoebe Dynevor plays Simon’s wife Daphne on Bridgerton , and sorry, ladies, but Regé-Jean Page is taken in real life too: His girlfriend is fellow Brit Emily Brown, a parttime copywriter.
FALL/WINTER 2021
They say the clothes make the man, but Regé-Jean Page’s elaborate Regency-era wardrobe in the hit TV series Bridgerton can’t take all the credit for the strong impression he’s made. After all, in the key honeymoon scenes in Episode 6, he’s—well, let’s just say costumes aren’t a key factor. Still, on the series, he makes the Duke of Hastings, aka Simon Basset, a memorable character, and what he wears he wears well. The same is proving true of the 31-year-old actor himself. As a performer and as a fashion exemplar, Page is turning out to be a memorable fashion player. The Netflix show, based on the novel series of the same name, is Page’s big claim to fame so far. Yes, he had a few small yet notable roles beforehand—he played Chicken George in the 2016 reincarnation of the miniseries Roots and was a regular in Shonda Rhimes’ one-season-wonder legal drama For the People. Still, Bridgerton, also a Rhimes creation, was the perfect casting match for Page. It displays his unmatched ability to wear period pantaloons and riding boots with ease. Hey, not everyone can make a Lord Byron-inspired wardrobe appealing. Born in London to a Zimbabwean nurse mother and an English preacher father, Page spent his early childhood in Harare, then moved back for secondary school to England, where he discovered acting thanks to the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. Page’s real-life fashion sense, much like his career, is still devel-

IT’S ALL IN THE JEANS
| WOODBURY MENS SHOP
Feeling blue over finding perfect denim? Let Woodbury Mens Shop go to work for you—knowing pants is in our blood. Most men didn’t spend their childhood playing dress up; seldom do boys protest which T-shirt or sweater they would wear, and rarely do they make a fuss over a pair of pants. For these guys, few things change over the years. Even the most discerning gentleman today doesn’t want to spend a lot of time in a dressing room: It’s usually “get the perfect fit and go”—especially when it comes to wardrobe basics like denim. At Woodbury Mens Shop, we understand that many men may not want to get worked up while looking for jeans, but we also know that finding the perfect pair takes more than searching for a size tag on the waistband. A department store brand with a 32x30 tag, for instance, might fit differently when compared with Woodbury Mens Shop’s high-quality denim by designers like S.M.N. and Teleria Zed. When you visit Woodbury Mens Shop, Jim Foley and our other style pros will talk to you even before you start trying on pants. “We focus on getting the fit right as quickly as possible,” says Foley. He and the team ask three basic questions: 1. Do you like low rise or mid rise? “Mid-rise jeans tend to be most popular with our customers.” 2. How fitted do you want them? “Some men like their jeans to be quite fitted around the thigh, but others want to be more comfortable.” 3. What kind of leg opening do you like? “The trend is slim, but our best-selling fit is still regular straight leg.” Once the staff gets your answers, they’re good to go. Inventory experts, they’ll know to grab jeans from brands like Jack of Spades, MAC Jeans and Teleria Zed, among others. “We’ll get the fit right the first time,” says Foley. But Woodbury Mens Shop goes beyond fit. Denim is about style too. “Then we can talk about washes—a dark, clean pair that you can dress up or something more fun with detailing and distressing,” he says. “We have a jean for every guy of every age…but you have to find the right fit first.”

SKINNY FIT Popularized by young hipster types in the late ’00s, the skin-tight denim phenomenon stuck around for about a decade before trends began to shift. But with slight modifications, today’s skinny-fit jeans are both fashionable and comfortable—and yes, they do allow breathing. How they fit: The skin-tight feeling has given way to something more modern. Keep doing those squats because this style still hugs your seat and thighs. Most are mid-rise, meaning that the waistline will sit slightly below your belly button, but guys with uber-thin, Mick Jagger-type bods will benefit from a low-rise jean that sits closer on the hip. Dudes should also pay attention to the level of skinniness in the leg. Many brands still offer jeans that carry the close fit all the way through the ankle, but if that tightness is too boy-band for you, opt for a pair with only a slight taper at the bottom. Who’s wearing them: Paparazzi often capture style icon Harry Styles wearing a pair of black denim skinny jeans with a statement button-up and Chelsea boots, but your day-to-night look can be perfect with a lightwash pair and a long-fit T-shirt. And while skinny fit may be favored by the nightclub crowd, it’s also suitable for the discerning man. Pair a subtler skinny jean with a sportcoat and loafers for a sophisticated look that is far from dated.
SLIM FIT It’s easy to use “skinny” and “slim” interchangeably in conversation, and there are indeed similarities when you’re talking about garments. But if you have a slightly fuller body, you’ll want to know the difference when putting on a pair of pants. How they fit: Like skinny-fit denim, slimfits also are close to the seat and thighs. They differ, however, in the leg opening— the calf and ankle loosen in most of the latter styles, providing greater mobility. Average slim-fit jeans are constructed with a mid-rise—meaning that the length from the crotch to the belt is anywhere between 9 and 11 inches—and give off a casual vibe. High-rise slim-fit jeans sit just above the waist and provide a neater, sometimes tailored appearance. Who’s wearing them: Slim-fit jeans are a great everyday cut for men looking to take the town by storm. Their versatility and ability to be paired with everything from sweaters and button-up shirts to sneakers and monk straps make them a preferred choice. And though they’re popular with Hollywood’s trim leading men, guys of all body types can feel confident in a pair because the slightly tapered yet close fit complements any figure.
REGULAR FIT In the beginning, jeans were utilitarian pants worn for any and every task— thus, comfort was the priority, then fashion. That meant they had to provide the wearer plenty of room to move while still appearing tidy. That’s the story of regular fit. How they fit: Unlike slim-fit denim, which has a narrow silhouette and hugs the body, regular-fit jeans have a straight fit through the hips and thighs. In other words, they’re not too loose, not too tight. Though there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all pant, regular fit comes close. For shorter guys the style’s mid-rise adds balance while elongating the body’s frame. Taller fellows also benefit from the mid-rise, which can reduce the visual appearance of long legs. Who’s wearing them: Once worn mostly by blue-collar workers on the job, these jeans are perfect for casual Fridays at the office. The extra fabric standard in regular jeans gives added comfort to all body types. This style pairs well with sport shirts and boots for a casual or rugged look, but a darker wash can be dressed up easily with a dress shirt, sweater and monk strap shoes.
LOOSE FIT The fashion police didn’t ban baggy pants (though some U.S. cities did). In fact, this style isn’t the faux pas that some made it out to be a decade ago. By considering a few sartorial rules, you can rock loose-fitting jeans and always be in style. How they fit: Loose-fit jeans offer maxcomfort feel and max-casual vibe. That’s because the style is typically cut to sit below the waist, providing extra room in the seat and thigh area. The straight leg also is roomy, but doesn’t give off an excessive bulky or baggy appearance. A high-rise fit can help men with larger waists flatten their mid-sections and shape their rear ends; it also allows more room in the leg for dudes with bigger calves. Watch the length of the leg: Jeans should not extend past the top of the shoes. Who’s wearing it: This style is best kept in casual settings (ball games and the like), but a variety of styles—different colors, patterns and washes, for example—will keep outfits interesting. For a smart combo, wear loose jeans in a light wash with layered pieces like hoodies, bomber jackets or large coats. Because of the jeans’ relaxed nature, finish a loosefit outfit with boots or sneakers.
FALL/WINTER 2021
DENIM THAT’S NOT DENIM Gold-rush miners of the 1850s knew they were wearing durable pants, but little did they know that their garb would be a long-lasting fashion trend. Of course, indigo-dyed cotton denim has come a long way since then, going through more than a century’s worth of transformations and incarnations (some memorable, others regrettable). Today’s jeans and five-pocket pants are better than ever: They’re just as durable to wear to a 9-to-5 job, whether you’re mining or managing clients, but they are constructed with comfort and style in mind too. Top designers such as MAC and Teleria Zed are incorporating fabrics such as elastane and Lycra to give their pant formulas stretch properties. Four-way stretch denim, for instance, provides the ultimate luxury. These pants stretch in four different directions, so they move with your body while you’re on the go, and they won’t lose their shape as they stretch over time—that was an issue with earlier stretch jeans. They’re also super-soft (like your athleisure wear), so you can relax in a pair while you watch the whole ball game or binge the entire series of a Netflix show on your couch. Available in different washes and colors, stretch denim and five-pocket pants can be used equally in an office setting or out on the town. You’ll be tempted to wear them at the health club—they’re that comfortable—but go with the shorts and sweats for your workout.

OFF-ROAD ROYALTY
| WOODBURY MENS SHOP
Land Rover’s Defender reigns once more, taking drivers from unpaved trails to city streets with ease and style. By Darius Amos The station wagon was first on the scene; then came the minivan. Today, the sport utility vehicle (SUV) is the preferred family transport option, thanks to ample seating, cargo space and four-wheel-drive systems. (Sporty names suggesting adventure and ruggedness help too.) But as car manufacturers continue to search for the next thing, British automaker Land Rover has opted to spice up its original formula. Returning from a three-year hiatus is the mighty Defender, which was one of the company’s first models when it launched in 1948. (Back then, the trucks were simply named for their wheelbases: the 127, the 110, the 90.) With a fully capable 4WD system, the stylish new iteration maintains the Defender’s standing as an off-roading champ. But as thoroughly as the Defender proves itself on the red rocks in Moab, it does just as well on the interstate and in stop-and-go city traffic. That’s because engineers made three powerful engines available to the vehicle: a turbocharged four cylinder, a turbocharged six and a supercharged, 518-horsepower eight. And the comforts in the cabin mirror those found in an uber-luxurious sedan: hand-stitched leather upholstery, three-zone automatic climate control and a standard 10-inch infotainment system display, to name three. As for the iconic “boxy” appearance of its forebears, the new Defender retains that general shape with a few sexy curves added. Rugged, good-looking and familyfriendly—that’s today’s SUV. Starting at $46,100.

The two-door Defender 90 offers a sporty look, while the four-door 110 is available for practical drivers.
Although the iconic Defender yellow of yesteryear isn’t available for 2022, there are 10 other paint colors to choose from, including Pangea Green and Gondwana Stone, both inspired by ancient supercontinents.
Unlike other Land Rover models that use two screens, the Defender relies on a single 10-inch touchscreen with faster response times to control its infotainment system. An optional 11.4-inch screen is available.
Optional turbocharged sixcylinder and supercharged eight-cylinder engines give the Defender extra power, whether it’s needed to pass in the fast lane or ascend a rocky cliff.
If an SUV with speed is your thing, the Defender’s optional V8 engine produces 518 horsepower and can complete the 0-to-60mph dash in 4.9 seconds.
Traversing rocks, wading across streams and hopping a curb are easy tasks for the Defender, which has 11.5 inches of ground clearance.
An air spring suspension upgrade enables the driver to adjust the ride height on the fly.

Within the past two decades these exotic species have gone extinct. You’ve missed your chance. There are, however, fascinating creatures you can still see today—animals that, sadly, may not be around for your grandchildren to glimpse. Global warming, deforestation and habitat loss are devastating to wildlife and animals, many of which are experiencing a rapid decline in population. Now that the world is re-opening to travel, catching sight of one of these species whose numbers are dwindling is an achievable goal. And happily, the countries they’re found in also offer a dazzling variety of other sights and experiences, in each case adding up to a vacation you won’t forget.

SNOW LEOPARD Great Himalayan National Park, India: FALL/WINTER 2021
The Himalayans are well known to attract alpinists and peak baggers, many of whom head to the region to conquer the world’s tallest mountains. And why not?—10 of the world’s 14 highest peaks are located here. But there’s much more to the mountain range than snowy summits. Visitors to Great Himalayan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that covers 452 square miles in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, can sign up for one of six guided (though somewhat rigorous) treks through the area’s wilderness. Scenic rivers, terraces, cliffs and slopes cut through the forests and mountains of the four designated valleys. Sightseers can enjoy spiritual stops at the Shringa Rishi Temple and Chaihani Fort in Banjaar. But because of its diminishing population and its elusiveness, a snow leopard roaming in its natural habitat would be the ultimate sight. Of the 31 animal species protected in the park, the snow leopard is among the most vulnerable—a recent state wildlife survey counted 73 of the big cats in Himachal Pradesh. According to the World Wildlife Federation (WWF), the snow leopard census is estimated at between 450 to 500 globally.

GIANT PANDA Chengdu Panda Breeding Center, Chengdu City, China: Ancient marvels such as the Forbidden City and the Terracotta Army are relics from this country’s long-gone dynasties, while metro regions like Shanghai are global leaders for commerce and innovation. The city of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan in western China, is another epicenter for visitors, with plenty of culture (the Sichuan opera is considered as good as any in the world), business and economy. But perhaps its best-known attraction is the giant panda, the Chinese national symbol and the face of all endangered animals. (It’s also the WWF’s logo.) At the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, staff members study the behavior and genetics of the species—it’s currently classified as vulnerable—with hopes of population conservation. The center is also a top destination for visitors, who can safely observe pandas and everything they do: eat, drink, eat, play, eat, interact with their young and eat.

NORTHERN WHITE RHINO Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya: Even before last year’s pandemic, vacationing in Africa always came with health advisories. Visitors are recommended (in some cases required) to obtain inoculations before traveling to certain countries, but rest assured, many resorts and wildlife sanctuaries do their part to keep everyone safe. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, considered one of the safest, welcomes more than 110,000 guests annually, all of whom can design their safari experience according to their abilities and interests. Day and evening excursions will take the curious up close and personal with lions, zebras, chimpanzees and elephants. Travelers will also see more than 100 critically endangered black rhinos, but the can’t-miss opportunity is catching a glimpse of (and even touching) the “functionally extinct” northern white rhino subspecies. Only two of these awesome animals exist in the world, and both (mother and daughter) are cared for and protected by Ol Pejeta. Staring the last of a kind in the face can be emotional, but the center is trying to reverse the “extinction.” It offers educational activities and workshops that provide visitors with insight into researchers’ work to preserve northern white rhino embryos—with hopes that they can be used to produce offspring.

BLUE-FOOTED BOOBY Galapagos Islands, Ecuador:
| WOODBURY MENS SHOP
Some 560 miles off the western coast of South America is this famed archipelago of volcanic islands, a popular destination for travelers. It’s a double World Heritage Site, as both its land and sea are protected to preserve the delicate wildlife and environment. The eco-systems are the major attraction, and tourists have many ways to safely visit them. For instance, there are guided hikes around the Sierra Negra crater and across Isabela, an island with six volcanoes. Snorkeling and diving are offered for those wanting a look at Darwin Island’s sharks, rays, sea lions and turtles. But whether you’re in the water or staying dry, there’s a good chance you’ll see a very unusual web-footed bird. The blue-footed booby is a common sight throughout the tropical regions of the eastern Pacific Ocean, and the birds have even reached mainland U.S. But they’re abundant in the Galapagos, where they choose the miles of undisturbed lava rocks and divots in the ground to safely nest. While the species isn’t officially “endangered,” its global population decline since 2014 has raised a red flag. Environmentalists note that the blue-footed boobies, in general, are having increasing problems in breeding; they suspect the decline of sardines, a major part of the birds’ diet, as a contributing factor.

TASMANIAN DEVIL Tasmanian Devil Unzoo, Australia:
FALL/WINTER 2021
Even the smallest continent has plenty to explore; Australia’s landscape is as diverse as any. From the unforgiving Outback to tourist havens Sydney and Melbourne, destinations are legion in the land Down Under. And there are plenty of things to see and do—the Opera House and Harbour Bridge in Sydney, Federation Square and the National Gallery of Victoria (and a cup of coffee) in Melbourne, for instance. Beyond those man-made structures, koala and kangaroo numbers are bouncing back after brushfires decimated both species last year, but one other animal is making a different kind of comeback. Disease and predators all but wiped out the Tasmanian devil population on mainland Australia, but conservationists began to slowly reintroduce them back into the wild last year. While seeing them in the wild is still a challenge, globetrotters can see them without fail on Tasmania. This island state is about an hour by plane (10 by ferry) south of Melbourne and home to the Tasmanian Devil “Unzoo,” the first wildlife park of its kind. The absence of cages and barriers gives animals their independence throughout the habitat. Varied presentations, nature walks and feeding times are offered to visitors, who can also “track” the park’s Tasmanian devils—all but guaranteeing that they’ll see one of the feisty marsupials.

SHIRT COLLAR:
PANT LEG LENGTH: Though you’ve shown plenty of ankle this summer, keep them covered at a formal event. Our tailors will be sure that your pants aren’t too short and also aren’t bunching on the bottom. In general, trousers should have half or no break. The half break is standard, showing a slight dent where the hem rests on the top of the shoe.
PANT LEG WIDTH: Finding a cut that flatters your waist, thighs and calves is key. In other words, pants that are too tight will wrinkle, while anything that has too much material runs the risk of appearing baggy and sloppy.
JACKET LENGTH: There are a couple rules of thumb that are easy to follow: The jacket should cover your rear end and, with your arms at your side, the garment should end between your thumb’s knuckle and base.
JACKET SLEEVE: For the perfect length, be sure the sleeve shows about a half-inch of the shirt cuff— just enough for others to see your fancy cuff links.
JACKET LAPEL: Wear a silk-faced peak lapel for highly formal occasions and a rounded shawl style when you want to soften your look. A notch lapel is versatile but the least formal for a tuxedo.
JACKET CUT: A trimmer, modern fit comes with a fashion-forward and flattering silhouette—for all body types. It is slimmer through the chest and shoulder than a traditional-cut jacket, and it’s appropriate for all occasions.

BLACK-TIE IS BACK no
Comfort was key during last year’s shutdown—even our attire for weddings was relaxed, whether they were conducted over Zoom or in someone’s yard. Of course, you never failed to look your best, but attending life’s most special moments just wasn’t the same because you weren’t dressed to the nines. The good news is that “normal” has returned, as you likely have noticed thanks to the abundance of invitations to weddings and galas that have appeared in your mailbox. That means it’s time to visit us at Woodbury Mens Shop, where we’ll size you up for your new made-to-measure tux. From a perfect-fitting jacket to modern accessories, our tailors and stylists will go through the checklist below and make sure, item by item, that you’re ready to go when the next big event arrives.

SHIRT FRONT: Pull off a timeless look with a smooth, slim-fit, bib-front shirt in a pique fabric with room for studs. Other clean looks are a shirt with no placket and concealed buttons, and a pleated front worn with studs.
SHIRT COLLAR: Those headed to the most formal wedding or fundraiser can’t go wrong with the wing, a stand-up collar with downward points. For a modern, less formal look, a mandarin collar with bow tie or a spread collar with necktie will certainly turn heads.
showing a slight dent where the hem rests on the top of the shoe.
Double-sided cuff links for your French-cuff shirt will give you a polished look, more than the T-bar variety. Stud sets should match, or closely resemble, your cuff links. A tuxedo paired with a bow tie is considered appropriate attire for the most formal weddings and special events. The black silk satin bow tie is the classic choice and a failsafe whether you’re the groom, a guest of honor or simply someone attending a black-tie affair. On any given day, have fun mixing pocket square colors and folds with your sportcoats. You can even go bold during daytime weddings and fundraisers. But when it comes to the most formal events, there is nothing more classic than a white silk square in a presidential fold. Patent loafers and oxfords are a sure-fire hit for the most formal events. Or keep things low-key by choosing the styles in suede or polished leather.

THE SPORTING LIFE
PEAK LUXURY
| WOODBURY MENS SHOP
Now Jackson Hole, Wyoming, has a nearby five-star luxury hotel worthy of its stellar skiing and eye-popping vistas. By Everett Potter Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming, is one of the grand prizes of American skiing, an adventure that begins with a jaw-dropping view. Set at the base of the Teton Mountains, these jagged spires of rock are arguably the most scenic stretch of the Rocky Mountains range. Jackson Hole has long attracted the big dogs of the skiing and snowboarding world, who come here for so-called Big Mountain skiing. If you’re unfamiliar with that term, it means what it says. Jackson Hole is a behemoth, with a vertical drop of more than 4,000 feet and 2,500 acres of in-bounds terrain, on a 10,400foot mountain. While there are easier green and blue runs, you don’t head to Jackson for easy turns. It gives fresh meaning to the term “challenging.” The out-of-bounds terrain is more than 3,000 acres and, basically, if you can see it, you can ski it—but only those with avalanche gear and training are encouraged to head past the ropes. In-bounds has challenges aplenty. There are runs with enormous moguls and chutes, the most famous being Corbet’s Couloir. It starts with a fear-inducing vertical drop, a double black-diamond entry into a narrow chute where you need to start making turns instantly. I count myself among those who’ve peered over the edge, only to retreat while a braver soul gamely takes the plunge down what looks like a sheer vertical wall. Just ride the tram from the base to get a drone’s-eye view of the action as you near the top of the mountain. But hard-core skiing is only part of the story. Jackson Hole has slowly evolved over the past 20 years, and while it still attracts plenty of 20- and 30-somethings eager for a steep and deep experience, it long ago recognized that a well-heeled crowd would come for better hotels and fine dining, make a few turns and admire the dramatic vistas over cocktails. Thus Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole, Hotel Terra and Caldera House came to town, the leading edge of the luxury options at the base of the mountain, where also there are restaurants, shops and
neighborhoods with CEO-level homes that routinely sell well into mid-eight figures. The ultra-chic Amangani Resort lies a couple of miles away. At Jackson Hole, you can still have a frosty après ski beer with the cliff jumpers at the Mangy Moose bar, with Warren Miller movies playing in an endless loop. But your dining choices are more like those found in Los Angeles or New York and trend to upscale steakhouses, sushi bars and Italian trattorias. Staying at the base of the mountain is great. But you’re in Jackson Hole. Twelve miles down the road lies the town of Jackson itself, an upscale cowboy town, centered on a town square whose four corners are ringed by inventive clusters of elk antlers that had been shed and collected. Surrounding the square are wooden sidewalks a la the old West, roofed over against the elements. There’s also a range of restaurants, shops and bars, the most colorful being the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, whose neon sign shows a rider on a bronco. There’s even another ski mountain in town, Snow King, that is beloved by locals. Now, with the opening of Cloudveil in May 2021, Jackson finally has what it’s long been missing: a fivestar luxury hotel. Part of the Autograph Collection of hotels owned by Marriott, it takes its name from the Cloudveil Dome, a peak within the Grand Tetons. It’s the first major building project on the town square since 1997—and a game changer. From Cloudveil you can walk to the restaurants and shops, and you’re directly across from the town square. Skiing or riding? There’s a shuttle to slopes, so you can leave the often gnarly winter driving to the pros. The design was a group effort by three firms: TruexCullins, CLB Architects and IBI Group. There was clearly an attempt to invoke rugged local elements, so they used materials such as stone, metal and wood throughout, as well as huge windows. The lobby has a giant, 3,000-pound boulder that functions as the front desk, and the lobby fireplace
is a welcome touch. A three-story granite wall is a reminder that you’re in the heart of climbing country. The hotel has 100 rooms and suites, and the décor has accent walls of wood, banquettes, wrought iron touches and neo-midcentury-modern chairs. Some of the rooms have corner fireplaces and balconies. There are smart TVs, and the bathrooms are stocked with Grown Alchemist products. On a sensible riff on the mini-bar, each floor of the hotel has a pantry stocked with complimentary local snacks and drinks. If you need to get your heart rate up before tackling the moguls on Jackson Hole, it’s good to know that there’s a gym with weights and Peloton equipment and, for après ski, a heated outdoor pool and Jacuzzi. The hotel’s 5,000-square-foot terrace is the only rooftop space of its kind in Jackson and is designed for summertime yoga and meditation. It’s expected to be open to the community as well for music performances and stargazing. Given Jackson’s proximity to both Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks, the latter about 60 miles away, there’s little question that summer and fall will be big here as well. Nor do you need to wander far for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Bistro, a French-inspired restaurant in the hotel, is the brainchild of the Fine Dining Restaurant Group, led by Gavin Fine and Roger Freedman. Fine is the Danny Meyer of Jackson, a savvy restaurateur who has put the town on the culinary map with such acclaimed eateries as Bin22, The Kitchen, II Villaggio Osteria, Bar Enoteca, Bodega, Sugar + Spice and Bovine + Swine. It offers outdoor café dining, a zinc bar, an oyster bar and a newly established reputation as a dining destination itself. So the sage advice is to come to Jackson Hole prepared for challenges and stay for the deep creature comforts of the new Cloudveil. It’s the newly crowned cool kid on the block, perfectly positioned to offer the ultimate in Western chic in the hippest ski town in the West. Enjoy the vibe, even if you can’t quite bring yourself to leap into Corbet’s Couloir.
Opposite page, clockwise from top left: Jackson Hole has many moguls and chutes, including the legendary Corbet’s Couloir; the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is a must-visit location in the town of Jackson; the ski resort is set at the base of the Teton Mountains; dishes like duck confit are served at The Bistro restaurant; the five-star Cloudveil hotel opened in May 2021; a cluster of elk antlers greets visitors.

TREND REPORT
it’s a wrap!
When winter chills your bones, a smartly worn scarf can help keep you toasty— and give any outfit an easy, snazzy upgrade.
| WOODBURY MENS SHOP
Eat your heart out, summertime. Only the arrival of brisker days justifies one of the most versatile and expressive elements of male attire: the scarf. Like a good pair of jeans, a scarf should fit a well-dressed man’s personality and appearance. Fashion editor, street photographer and social media stylist Scott Schuman explores this idea in his latest book, The Sartorialist Man: Inspiration Every Man Wants, Education Every Man Needs (Rizzoli). Not content simply to offer a list of do’s and don’ts, Schuman provides a visual narrative to illustrate how a well-thought-out scarf can bolster an already polished gentleman’s look and improve his style strategy. These images from the book, for instance, demonstrate the cool impact the wrap can have when paired with a selection of outerwear and jackets.
This fully functional piece is a stylish one too, especially when worn correctly. In most instances, you can’t go wrong with the easy yet highly sophisticated Parisian knot. To tie it, simply fold the scarf in half, rest it over the back of your neck and pull the loose ends through the looped end. When the elements get rough, tuck a scarf into your jacket for extra warmth, tighten it so the fabric is closer to your neck and, if necessary, pull some of the fabric over your mouth and nose. Follow the tips and you’ll stay warm but still look cool.

A scarf is one of the easiest ways to add pops of color to your cold-weather attire, whether you’re wearing a raincoat on a fall morning or an overcoat to an evening show. A piece with a primary shade that’s similar to your outerwear can stand out when checks, patterns and plaids contain bright contrasting hues.

GROOMING
When a beard gets weird Unevenness? Bare patches? A few simple tips can help your face be happily hirsute.
Face it: Facial hair seems to have a mind of its own. Just as some male chins are more thickly forested than others, many men’s faces have blank spots or areas where facial hair grows unevenly. But the answer needn’t be to go clean-shaven. With some smart strategies and a little attention to detail, you’ll be cheered by your beard. LET IT GROW. A better-defined beard is easier to shape, so play the waiting game before breaking out your trimmers. If you suspect that patches are forming, resist the temptation to shave your beard; let it grow for another month—this will give you better grooming options. There’s a good chance your facial hair will grow fuller and fill the patchy spots after a few weeks—and you may decide that a long beard fits your style. If it doesn’t fill in, however, you’ll at the very least be able to clearly identify where your beard will (and won’t) grow and shape it from there. KEEP IT TRIMMED. Though patches can sometimes be flattering on a guy’s face, it’s still important to maintain a neat and even appearance. You can incorporate patches into your style by keeping a short beard. (This also helps camouflage some patches.) But take your time shaping your beard, as a few misfires with shears or shavers will leave you with more patches than before. CLEAN UP THE LINES. A patchy beard can look clean and profesh when it has clearly defined lines. That means using a razor or trimmer to shape sharp borders around your sideburns, cheekbones, jawline and lips. Men with fuller beards should treat them every day by combing in beard oil. SEE WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. When unwanted patches are part of your beard game, managing the length of your facial hair will work wonders for its appearance. Keeping a short and even growth can minimize the appearance of patches, while a longer beard can cover the blank spots. If neither of these approaches does the job on your face, break into your lady’s makeup bag and grab an eyebrow pencil—you can shade in smaller patches using this trick.

CONDITION YOUR BEARD. Just as you treat the locks on top of your head with care, the hair up front deserves the right products too. Dry and wiry facial hair can cause patches, so conditioning your beard with a good oil or balm will keep it healthy down to the follicles. Exfoliate beneath the hair to remove dry and dead skin—this will improve blood flow, which promotes thicker, healthier hair. A good diet, too, will help with facial hair growth: plenty of water, vitamins B and C and the all-important omega-3s will nourish your beard.

Five star sips | WOODBURY MENS SHOP
When a TV headliner makes a movie it seems natural; a screen actor releasing an album of songs is less common, but still not exactly “man bites dog.” These days, however, a gaggle of showbiz celebrities is branching out further—into the spirits world. They’re pouring talents that can’t be bottled into a product that can, giving a whole new meaning to the phrase “creating buzz” and helping to endow chosen liquors with star power of their own:

GEORGE CLOONEY Casamigos Tequila
FALL/WINTER 2021
This 60-year-old actor totes a heavy bag of Hollywood hardware, including three Golden Globes and two Oscars, and plays significant social roles as a philanthropist and political influencer, but he’s also a major player in the world of spirits. His impact started in the early 2010s while he was looking for local tequilas to stock at his vacation home in Cabo San Lucas. When none of the offerings suited his taste, he sought to make his own. Along with his friend Rande Gerber and developer Mike Meldman, Clooney founded Casamigos Tequila Company in 2013, making a spirit that not only tasted great but also felt cool when consumed straight or on the rocks. As with anything Clooney touches (even his comparative box-office bust Batman & Robin was 1997’s 10th highest-grossing film), the tequila turned to gold and doubled in sales each year. But star power wasn’t the only thing behind Casamigos’ big numbers; Clooney and company knew good tequila too. The flavor profile is unlike many other varieties, as traditional herbal and citrus notes aren’t as prevalent as smooth caramel and black pepper. This makes it an ideal sip, whether it’s neat, on the rocks or mixed in a delicious cocktail. Just four years after starting the company, the team sold its operations to beverage magnate Diageo in a deal worth $1 billion.

BRUNO MARS SelvaRey Rum It’s no surprise that mixologists concocted a drink inspired by and named after Bruno Mars’ punchy groove “24K Magic,” but that cocktail isn’t the music star’s first connection to the spirits world. When Mars, who was born Peter Hernandez in Hawaii in 1985, started performing small gigs throughout the U.S., he connected with SelvaRey, a Panamanian company that catered his events and parties. And soon after he broke through with his part in “Uptown Funk,” Mars purchased a stake in the company, which produces a line of popular rums. The prize of the collection, however, is SelvaRey Owner’s Reserve, released this year. Though Mars technically co-owns the brand with brothers Seth and Marc Gold and Robert Herzig, he is the “owner” in this case. Mars worked with master distiller Don Francisco Fernandez to create this drink, a blend of 15- and 25-year-old rums that was then aged in oak barrels. The pop star not only controlled its taste—it has smooth notes of toffee, hazelnut and vanilla—but also designed the shape and color of the statuesque bottle, logo and box. And why not? He does make magic, after all.

KATE HUDSON King St. Vodka
FALL/WINTER 2021
Though some of her rom-coms have flopped and the athleisure line she founded may fall out of trend, Kate Hudson’s labor-of-love vodka brand will always be perfect for any martini. The 42-year-old actress-slashentrepreneur took a stab at the world of liquor in 2019 for one reason: She wanted a vodka that truly satisfied her own palate. What she created was King St. Vodka, a 100 percent gluten-free beverage crafted with alkaline water that’s “7x distilled for purity.” Named for a Greenwich Village street where Hudson once lived and welcomed guests, the vodka has done more than gain the favor of her current celebrity pals: VinePair gave it an A-minus rating, while Jeff Ellingson, popular liquor critic and founder of the Best Tasting Spirits blog, awarded its Silver Medal to King St. And despite the vodka’s feminine rose-wrapped label, which was Hudson’s idea, its neutral palate and peppery finish would likely please Mr. Martini himself, James Bond.

DRAKE Virginia Black Whiskey At just 34, Toronto-born Aubrey Drake Graham is already a multifaceted global phenom. It’s tough to bet against anything he has his hands on, from making hit records and writing chart toppers to starring on the big screen and being the global ambassador of an NBA franchise (the Toronto Raptors). So when he teamed with spirits industry giant Brent Hocking, founder of the original DeLeón Tequila (which is now controlled by Diageo and Sean “Diddy” Combs), to create Virginia Black Whiskey in 2016, the result was an almost instant success. Entertainers and athletes alike enjoy a sip from the champagne-like, black-and-gold bottle, but it appeals to everyone else as well. It’s smooth on the palate with hints of toffee, vanilla and orange on the finish, a flavor that helped the spirit earn 91 points and a spot in Wine Enthusiast’s list of Top 100 Spirits of 2017.

RYAN REYNOLDS Aviation American Gin
FALL/WINTER 2021
In most cases, the after-1 a.m. crowd at your local watering hole can’t distinguish the merits of a good cocktail, so their gin-and-tonics are often mixed using the house liquor. That’s passable for last call, but those with a more discerning palate deserve better. And Christian Krogstad and Ryan Magarian gave them better in 2006, when the duo first produced what is now called Aviation American Gin (Aviation, for short) in Portland, Ore. Its flavor starts with heavy rye and lavender followed by juniper, cardamom and orange. Wine Enthusiast magazine once gave it a 97-point rating, the highest grade the magazine had ever given to a gin. That caught the attention of actor and gin aficionado Ryan Reynolds, who bought a stake in the premium liquor company in 2018 and retained his minority ownership when spirits giant Diageo took over the brand last year for $610 million. Reynolds also still remains the face of the brand (not a bad-looking face), appearing in multiple places on the gin’s website. Also handsome are the gin’s Art Deco-inspired bottle and its flask-like silhouette.

3 perfect pairings
Why not make dinner special by choosing a wine to match each course? Here, a renowned sommelierturned-wine-director suggests a trio of apt varietals.
| WOODBURY MENS SHOP
No law says you can’t get away with serving just one great wine at your next get-together. But maybe, given the vagaries of the past year and a half, it’s your first for a while, and you’d like to step it up. To make the evening truly memorable, you can pair each course of your meal with its own bottle, one chosen to complement its individual flavors. What might such a dinner be like? We asked Andrew Fortgang, co-owner and wine director of critically acclaimed restaurants Le Pigeon and Canard in Portland, Ore., to be our sipping guide. He picked some underappreciated and unexpected varietals to enjoy with each phase of the meal, from appetizer to entrée to dessert.

CHOCOLATE: When eating something sweet, Fortgang prefers drinking something sweet or savory with it. He loves dark chocolate with Banyuls, a dessert wine with some spice and herbalness from the Roussillon region in Southern France. A nuttier, oak-aged Tawny port is his ideal companion for milk chocolate, while he leans toward an amber-hued Madeira, made with white grapes, for white chocolate treats. BOTTLES TO TRY: Dark chocolate: Domaine de la Casa Blanca Banyuls, $27 Milk chocolate: Ramos Pinto Quinta da Ervamoira 10-Year Tawny, $41 White chocolate: Rare Wine Company Boston Bual Madeira, $60

CHARCUTERIE: When assembling a plate of meat, cheese, fruit and veggies for a crowd, our expert likes to drink a wine from the country that the food on the charcuterie platter comes from: Italy, Spain or France, for example. “It doesn’t mean it’s a better pairing, but I like that connection,” he says. Generally speaking, though, this type of appetizer works best with a dry white wine like the Fino en Rama Sherry. “This is an unfiltered pinot, so it has a little more weight and texture but is still bright and dry,” Fortgang says of the selection. BOTTLE TO TRY: Valdespino Manzanilla en Rama Deliciosa, $15

GRAPE STEAK ENTRÉE: Many of us associate juicy steak with a nice bottle of red, and Fortgang agrees. “With steak, you have to have a wine that either has the tannin or the acidity,” he says. And the type of red you opt for depends on how you serve the main course. If you’re preparing your meat with lots of herbs and veggies, he likes a Cabernet Franc from Bourgueil. “It has weight and structure and depth and herbaceous qualities to mirror what you’re cooking,” he says. A barbecuesaucy steak is great with a Grenache (Garnacha), which has spicy and fruity flavors. BOTTLES TO TRY: Herbed/grilled: Domaine de la Butte Bourgueil (Cabernet Franc), $40 Barbecue flavor: Grenache (Garnacha), La Bruja de Rozas, Comando G, $30

It’s time for a wardrobe refresh, but where do you begin? Woodbury Mens Shop’s style experts reveal their inspiration as well as the fall pieces that they’ll be wearing. Read what they have to say, then visit the store and chat with them in person. They have tons of experience and love to make shopping fun!
JIM FOLEY For me, fall 2021 is about feeling good! Nothing feels better than a luxurious cashmere sweater on a crisp fall or winter day. Pair that with salvaged denim-colored jeans and the right shoe. If it’s really cold, a cashmere Loro Piana Storm System coat will keep any chill away—rain or shine. We look forward to seeing you!
AMIR MORADI The pandemic has forced many people to hit the fashion reset button. They’re going back to classic styles in formalwear, suits and sportswear. As people slowly return to the office, travel and dinners with friends, they want fashions that flow across these environments. I like dressy jeans in fashion colors by Teleria Zed, sport shirts by Stenströms and elevated sneakers by Magnanni.

Now that we are gathering for celebrations again, a large focus has been on formalwear. A black Trussini tuxedo with a black bow tie is classic formal elegance. On the other hand, an Etro paisley velvet dinner jacket and a crisp white Stenströms shirt are a fun and festive formal look. If you get an invitation to a black tie optional event but don’t want to wear a tuxedo, you can dress up a navy suit with a formal shirt and bow tie, and you will fit right in!
MARC H. FENSTER The outlook for the fall is color! Sweaters and sportcoats will be dominated by vibrant shades of blues, teals and greens. That combined with subtle denim and various washes of casual pants will make the fall season extremely memorable.
MATTHEW DESMAREAUX I’m looking forward to seeing the textures of fall fabrics and colors layered together. The Gran Sasso quarter-zip cashmere sweater is the perfect piece—layer it with a Etro or Trussini sportcoat. The look—and feel—is modern and classic at the same time.
RICH O’BOYLE Fall is my favorite time of year. This weather is the best for outdoor activities when I can wear activewear from Vince and Sol Angeles. When I’m not enjoying the great outdoors, I like to layer a sweater vest with a sportcoat. My favorite colors are earth tones with more dramatic burgundies, greens and blues. Colored jeans can complement the sportcoat or create a sexy and sophisticated monochromatic look.
