Dalefield Hockey Club

Dalefield completed the double of winning the 2020 Wellington Hockey Men’s and Women’s Premier Championships. For the men it was their second consecutive title, and fourth in six years, and completed an unbeaten season, winning all 14 games, while the women won their first title in three years, and their third in five years. Dane Lett, Trent Lett, Jordan Cohen, and Benedict van Woerkom in the men’s team, and Felicity Reidy in the women’s side, represented Central Falcons in the 2020 National League, with the men winning their title.

Featherston Amateur Wrestling Club

The Featherston Amateur Wrestling Club has continued to build on their achievements after nearly closing seven years ago, and have again excelled at national level. Wrestlers won 10 medals [six gold] at the 2019 NZ Club Champs, eight medals [three gold] at both the 2019 and 2020 National Championships. Another 15 medals [eight gold] were won at the 2019 North Island Champs, and five medals [four gold] at the 2019 South Island Championships. The club was awarded the ‘Going for Gold’ award in September 2020, and Best Sportsmanship Award in 2019.

Gladstone Hockey Club

In 2020 Gladstone completed the double of the Hockey Wairarapa Men’s and Women’s Division One Championships. For the Gladstone Bulls, it was the first year they had competed in the men’s competition, and they convincingly won the title. Gladstone Gold won the women’s 1A championship, beating defending champions Dalefield. Gladstone Black played in women’s division two. Gladstone were awarded Club of the Year at the Hockey Wairarapa Awards, while Gladstone Gold were joint winners of Women’s Team of the Year, and the Bulls were runners-up in the Men’s Team of the Year.

Gladstone Tennis Club

Gladstone junior tennis teams continue to perform to a high level in Wairarapa Tennis interclub competitions, with six teams entered across the grades. The club won the junior championship grade in 2020 and 2021, and has won the teams’ title for the past six seasons. Promising junior William Orsborn competed at the national championships, finishing a respectable 16th in the 12 and under age group. More than 50 juniors regularly play at Gladstone over the summer season, with many of them performing well at the Wairarapa Primary School Tournament.
