Je suis enchanté que le pays de Galles soit à l'honneur cette année au Festival Interceltique. C'est pour moi un grand plaisir que de vous présenter une série d'artistes gallois qui célèbrent nos anciennes traditions sous des formes et styles contemporains variés. Notre délégation, forte de 200 artistes qui vous donneront un aperçu de la richesse de la culture et des traditions de notre pays, sera la plus nombreuse jamais envoyée par nous au festival.
Mae’n fraint i Gymru gael bod yn wlad wadd yng Ngwyl Ryng-Geltaidd Lorient elenni. Pleser o’r mwyaf i mi yw eich cyflwyno i res o befformwyr o Gymru fydd yn dathlu ein traddodiadau hynafol mewn amrywiaeth o arddulliau cyfoes. Dyma’r ddirprwyaeth fwyaf i fynychu’r wyl, gyda bron i 200 o artistiaid yma i roi blas o ddiwylliant a thraddodiadau cyfoethog ein gwlad.
La première partie de ce gala remontera aux racines de nos anciennes traditions. La deuxième présentera de jeunes artistes et des étoiles montantes qui donneront une interprétation contemporaine à ces riches traditions. Un grand nombre d'entre eux se produiront également au National Eisteddfod, notre principal festival, qui commence aussi aujourd'hui dans notre capitale, Cardiff. Je suis ravi qu'un lien artistique aussi fort soit établi entre l'Eisteddfod et le Festival Interceltique cette année. Vous êtes cordialement invité à venir goûter les plaisirs de notre musique et de notre culture durant le festival au pavillon de l'année du pays de Galles, et à l'exposition d'Iwan Bala et John Uzzel-Edwards, qui vous inciteront à visiter notre grand pays aux traditions et au patrimoine si riches. I’m delighted that Wales is the featured nation at this year’s Interceltic festival. It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to a range of performers from Wales that celebrate our deep-rooted traditions in a variety of contemporary styles and forms. This is our largest delegation to attend the festival, with nearly 200 artists to give you a flavour of our country's rich culture and traditions.

The first half of this gala will delve into the roots of our ancient traditions. The second half will feature young and emerging artists who will give a contemporary interpretation of those rich traditions. Many of these artists will also perform at the National Eisteddfod our leading festival that also starts today in our capital Cardiff. I'm delighted that there is such as strong artistic link established between the Eisteddfod and the Interceltic festival this year.

Fusing tales from Welsh folk’s dark heritage with melodies that conjure memories of long forgotten childhood songs, 9Bach’s musical journey has taken them far beyond their roots in the mountains of North Wales and the spoon playing backstreets of North London. Mae Bethan wedi ennill cydnabyddiaeth fel telynores a chantores Geltaidd sy’n gwthio ffiniau cerddoriaeth draddodiadol. Mae’n canu yn Gymraeg a Saesneg fel ei gilydd, ac mae ei threfniadau prydferth a gwreiddiol wedi cyfareddu cynulleidfaoedd pell ac agos. Bethan has gained recognition as a Celtic harpist and singer who pushes the boundaries of traditional music. Singing in both Welsh and English, her beautiful and original arrangements have captivated audiences both far and wide.
La chorale Dowlais Male Choir compte environ 65 voix. Ses membres viennent de tous les recoins des vallées du sud du pays de Galles. Dowlais est une chorale en tournée qui a réalisé des concerts dans de nombreux pays européens. Le répertoire de la chorale s’étend des chants religieux et séculiers jusqu’à la musique traditionnelle et classique y compris de nombreux morceaux en gallois. Mae gan Gôr Meibion Dowlais tua 65 o leisiau. Daw ei aelodau o ardal oddeutu 50 milltir o amgylch Cymoedd De Cymru. Côr teithiol yw Côr Dowlais, ac mae wedi perfformio led led Ewrop. Mae repertoire'r côr yn ymestyn o’r crefyddol a’r seciwlar i gerddoriaeth draddodiadol a chlasurol, gan gynnwys nifer o ddarnau Cymraeg. The Dowlais Male Choir numbers approximately 65 voices. Its members are drawn from a wide area in the south Wales valleys. Dowlais is a touring choir and have performed in many European countries. The Choir's repertoire stretches from the sacred and secular through to traditional and classical music, including many pieces in the Welsh language.

Catrin est une musicienne hors du commun qui a fait plus que personne auparavant pour mettre la harpe sur le devant de la scène musicale. Elle a remporté son premier prix internationalement reconnu en 1999 avec le concours international de harpe Lily Laskine en France, l’un des plus importants concours de harpe au monde. Catrin est l’ancienne harpiste royale de sa Majesté le prince de Galles. Elle a fait de nombreux spectacles dans tous les Etats-Unis, au Moyen-Orient, en Asie et en Europe. Catrin is a phenomenal musician who is doing more than anyone else so far to put the harp on the musical map. Her first major international prize came in 1999 when she won the Lily Laskine International Harp Competition in France – one of the premier harp competitions in the world. Catrin is the former Royal Harpist to the H.R.H. the Prince of Wales. She has performed extensively throughout the U.S.A., the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Catrin has recorded for many major international recording companies, including Universal Records, Deutsche Grammophon, EMI and Sony Classical, both solo and with notable artists such as Bryn Terfel, Sir James Galway, Julian Lloyd-Webber and Katherine Jenkins.

Lauréat d’un « Creative Wales award 2008 » Richard est musicien professionnel depuis dix ans au sein du groupe Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci (qui chante en gallois) et il est depuis trois ans un artiste solo respecté. Son premier album solo, The Seven Sleepers Den, a été applaudi par la critique au Royaume-Uni et en Europe. Il est depuis longtemps un passionné de musique traditionnelle et son objectif est d’apporter une interprétation moderne au genre. Mae Richard, a enillodd wobr Cymru Greadigol 2008, wedi bod yn gerddor proffesiynol ers deng mlynedd fel rhan o’r band Cymraeg Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, ac fel artist solo mawr ei barch yn y tair blynedd diwethaf. Rhyddhawyd ei albwm solo gyntaf, The Seven Sleepers Den, i gymeradwyaeth feirniadol yn y DU ac yn Ewrop. Winner of a Creative Wales award 2008, Richard has been a professional musician for ten years as part of the Welsh language band Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, and for the past three years as a respected solo artist. His first solo album, The Seven Sleepers Den, was released to critical acclaim in the UK and Europe. He is a longstanding fan of traditional music and aims to bring a modern interpretation to the genre.
SIDAN www.k-bros.co.uk Sidan est un trio constitué de quelques uns des meilleurs musiciens traditionnels gallois: Gerard KilBride (violon), Jonathan Shorland (flûte traversière et hautbois) et Danny KilBride (guitare). Ensemble, ils produisent une sublime musique traditionnelle galloise qui insuffle à la musique un souffle oublié depuis longtemps et jouent également des morceaux plus familiers. Chaque membre du trio est un musicien de talent qui a joué un rôle important dans le développement de la musique traditionnelle au Pays de Gales. Y Glerorfa est le plus important orchestre gallois de musique traditionnelle folklorique avec ses 55 musiciens venus des quatre coins du pays de Galles ; ils jouent de la harpe, du violon, de la flûte, des instruments à vent et des cornemuses. Les directeurs artistiques, Stephen Rees et Robin Huw Bowen, sont deux des musiciens gallois traditionnels les plus renommés. La musique de Y Glerorfa est la preuve de la profondeur de la tradition galloise avec des œuvres qui vont des morceaux sorties du passé le plus ancien jusqu’aux toutes nouvelles compositions. Dawnswyr Môn avec Huw et Bethan Williams complèteront les riches sonorités de Clerorfa par le son des battements de pied des danses de sabots galloises. Y Glerorfa yw cerddorfa gyntaf Cymru yn chwarae cerddoriaeth werin draddodiadol gyda 55 o gerddorion o bob rhan o Gymru, yn perfformio â thelynau, ffidlau, ffliwtiau, pibau a phibgyrn. Siân Melangell Dafydd est une écrivain et critique d’art, née et élevée dans la région du parc National de Snowdonia. Elle a été une des principales contributrices du recueil ‘Hon: Ynys y Galon’ (‘Île du Coeur’), un ouvrage qui explore le monde symbolique et surnaturel de l’île de Gwales et de ses alentours, au travers de l’œuvre de l’artiste gallois, Iwan Bala (qui expose également au Festival Interceltique 2008). Après avoir reçu une bourse de l’Academi pour les nouveaux écrivains, elle vit actuellement entre le pays de Galles et Paris, où elle effectue des recherches atour d’un roman situé dans les rues de la capitale française des années 1870.
Aneirin Karadog est né dans le nord du pays de Galles et il a grandi dans les vallées du sud du pays de Galles. Son père est gallois et sa mère, bretonne et il parle cinq langues. Il est poète dans cet art gallois exclusif « le Cynghanedd » et fait du rap avec les groupes de hiphop Y Diwygiad et Genod Droog. Ses poèmes ont été recueillis dans plusieurs anthologies. Aneirin présente le programme quotidien « Wedi 7 » sur la chaîne de télévision du pays de Galles émise en langue galloise. Ganwyd Aneirin Karadog yng ngogledd Cymru ac fe’i magwyd yng nghymoedd de Cymru. Mae’n fab i Gymro a Llydawes, ac mae’n siarad pum iaith Cymraeg, Llydaweg, Ffrangeg, Sbaeneg a Saesneg - ac mae’n ysgrifennu barddoniaeth ar ffurf Cynghanedd ynghyd â rapio gyda grwpiau hip-hop megis Y Dieygiad a Genod Droog. Cyhoeddwyd ei farddoniaeth mewn nifer o detholiadau amrywiol. Mae Aneirin yn gyflwynydd ar Wedi 7. Aneirin Karadog was born in North Wales and raised in the valleys of South Wales. The son of a Welsh father and a Breton mother, he speaks five languages and writes poetry in the strict Welsh meter called Cynghanedd as well rapping with hip-hop groups Y Diwygio and Genod Droog. Wedi dderbyn bwrsari Awduron Newydd Academi Cymru, mae hi bellach yn gwneud gwaith ymchwil bellach ar gyfer y nofel honno sy’n dechrau ar strydoedd Paris 1877. Siân Melangell Dafydd is a writer and art critic, born and brought up in Snowdonia and currently living between Paris and Wales.
