Foreword
I am very proud to say that Wales has a vibrant and active theatre sector for children and young people. The ‘jewels in the crown’ of theatre for young people in Wales, or perhaps its ‘string of pearls,’ are featured here in this directory. They are spread across every region of our small country and present a huge diversity of approaches and attitudes to performance for young audiences in schools, community settings and theatre venues. Some of the featured companies have programmes which engage young people in creating their own theatre productions with the same high standards as the professional performances they produce. Some of the companies in this booklet are also involved in working internationally, performing abroad and collaborating with international practitioners. Opening Doors, (Agor Drysau) – Wales International Festival of Theatre for Young Audiences – is a biennial festival organised by Arad Goch and brings together theatre companies from around the globe. It is an opportunity for the companies in Wales to engage with international theatre for young people, explore performance opportunities, potential collaborations and experience work by international theatre companies.
Mae’r cyfeirlyfr yma yn datguddio gwledd o theatr bywiog a phrofiadau addysgol ar gyfer cynulleidfaoedd ym mhob man; profiadau fydd yn herio ac yn difyrru cenedlaethau ifanc a hen, trwy agor y drws i fyd newydd.
This booklet aims to unlock a treasure of exhilarating theatre and educative experiences for young audiences everywhere; experiences which will both challenge and entertain young and old alike and open a door to other worlds and other times.
