GAME FISHING

HALF OR FULL DAY

Enjoy a full or half day game fishing excursion. Travel in comfort and style on one of Kokomo’s three deep sea fishing boats: Kahala, Katoa and Kadua. Our surrounding waters hold numerous seamounts, deep trenches, and Fish Aggregating Device’s (FADs). The close proximity creates a haven for big Bluewater Gamefish, such as Yellowfin Tuna, large Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, Sailfish, Blue and Black Marlin and Short Bill Spearfish, all of which can all be encountered within a short distance from the island. Please note, here at Kokomo we practice catch and release on all billfish species, but do enjoy some fresh Mahi-Mahi and Tuna sashimi after a day on the ocean.

REEF FISHING

HALF DAY

Kokomo’s reef fishing experience involves a short boat ride on board one of our five fishing vessels to some of the surrounding coral reefs. Guests can try their hand at local reef fishing while using the latest Shimano gear and tackle or simply get involved in the oldest local tradition of hand line fishing. Listen in and learn about the local history and the fishing way of life in the Fijian villages. Species such as Snapper, Cod, Seabream and many more reef species are found in the local reefs around Kokomo.

SPORTS FISHING

HALF OR FULL DAY

This action-packed hands-on sport fishing adventure will really get your heart rate pumping. You will focus on casting poppers and stick baits into the surf zone, along the many reef breaks and points. Target Giant Trevally, Bluefin Trevally, Green Jobfish, and various Grouper. Move offshore in search of foaming balls of feeding Tuna - possibly the most exciting way to target Yellowfin Tuna - with topwater lures cast on top of the school. Also try deep water jigging for the mighty Dogtooth Tuna and other powerful species that thrive just over the drop offs and around seamounts. You may also encounter oversized Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo and Sailfish during your sportfishing adventure. We do promote “Catch and Release” however, we have a sustainable Dock to Dish program, which enables you to take your catch back to shore for our chefs to utilise, when certain species are caught.

DEEP DROPPING

HALF OR FULL DAY

Beyond the reef and over the drop-off, guests can target some of Fiji’s most prized table fish in depths of up to 400 meters using the latest in Shimano electric reel technology. A real lucky dip, you just never know what you may pull up from the deep dark depths. The target species include Gold Band Snapper, Ruby Snapper, Bedford, Pakapaka, and many more creatures of the deep.

SPEAR FISHING

HALF OR FULL DAY

We provide a wide range of spear fishing charters, from beginners to the most experienced Bluewater hunters. Our trips are designed to provide the best possible chance of securing that fish of a lifetime, all while holding your breath. Learn about spear fishing equipment, freediving techniques and fish behaviour in this exhilarating underwater sport. Spear fishing charters will visit reefs and islands to the north of the Great Astrolabe Reef, where guests can target some of the most common reef and pelagic species in Fiji including Coral Trout, Green Jobfish, Dogtooth Tuna, Spanish Mackerel and Wahoo.

SUSTAINABILITY

CATCH TO PLATE

Guests are invited to partake in a day of adventure out on the water to sustainably source seafood from our surrounding thriving reefs. On your return, take your catch back to shore, and we will have it transformed into a decadent meal by our chefs.

The ethical sourcing of seafood is reflected in how the produce is prepared, allowing your catch to be the hero of the dish. Watch your freshly caught fish transform into mouthwatering seafood, delicately garnished with micro herbs and citrus from our on-island farm.

DOCK TO DISH

In 2018, Kokomo launched the South Pacific chapter of Dock to Dish, a communitysupported sustainable fishing venture, committed to restoring the relationship between seafood producers and consumers. An international network of small-scale fishermen, marine biologists and sustainable seafood advocates, Dock to Dish supports the growth and development of small-scale

fishing communities, whilst prioritising fresh, flavoursome seafood. The pioneering movement is bringing sweeping reform to seafood supply chains around the world. For Kokomo, Dock to Dish enables our team to preserve important elements of the native culture, whilst furthering our commitment to an environmentally and culturally sustainable sourcing system.

SUSTAINABLE FISHING

In recent decades, fish biomass and coral cover on many tropical reefs have been severely depleted. While this decline may be associated with numerous factors, overfishing has been a primary driver. The aquatic reserves surrounding Kokomo are flourishing, and in August 2018 we created a “No-Take Fishing Zone” around our island home to preserve our waterways and to ensure the longevity of these thriving reefs for years to come. This 200 metre perimeter prohibits guests, staff and local villagers from fishing within the area, preserving biodiversity, and enhancing ecosystem resilience. This is the first step toward our aim of making the waters an official Marine Protected Area.
