The energy and excitement of Southeast Edmonton
Cantiro Homes at The Hills at Charlesworth
by PePPer rodriguez
The sky’s the limit for growth in Southeast Edmonton, as new homeowning opportunities increase with a number of new communities and the easy living lifestyle they offer continue to attract young familes looking to plant their roots.
Affordable and multifaceted homeowning opportunites abound, as Southeast Edmonton remains as one of the most desirable localities in Alberta. It is centrally positioned, offering relatively easy and quick access to several other areas like Central Edmonton and Sherwood Park. In addition, the area provides everything a growing family needs locally, ranging from schools and shopping to leisure and medical care.
Southeast Edmonton is also close to the Edmonton International Airport, which is great for frequent travellers and for those working at this major employment hub.
There is also a desirable selection of housing in the Southeast, with many styles of single-family homes, as well as multi-family homes ranging from condo, duplexes and townhomes - most of which are modern and recently developed. Transit routes have recently been improved to provide residents with swift access to many of Edmonton’s sub-areas, as well as easy access in and out of the city.
lots to love
Southeast Edmonton is generally the area south of Whitemud Drive and east of Highway 2, but much of the new growth can be found straddling Anthony Henday Drive. The southeast does include the older, more mature areas including Mill Woods, but most
of the new communities are further along the southern edges of the city.
This sector has a sprawling mix of residential, industrial and rural areas, with plenty of recreational spaces in between, including Mill Creek Ravine, where one can get lost in its natural beauty right in the city.
The development of Anthony Henday Drive has greatly benefitted residents, and many of the newer communities can be found growing along its length. Many are communities that promote a healthy life-work balance, with commercial, retail and recreational spots found in abundance and residents don’t have to go far to find what they want and need.
Melting pot offerings
There is an international flavour throughout as you don’t have to go very far to try out some of the best Punjabi, Jamaican or Filipino food (and more) in Edmonton. Bombay Street Tadka Indian Restaurant is a favourite, Emilio’s Inasal offers Filipino-style barbecue, and Irie Foods serves traditional jerk chicken and other Caribbean specialties.
South Edmonton Common is a popular shopping destination, comprising a sprawling mix of big brand stores (including IKEA), restaurants, and services. When complete, it will spread over 320 acres and contain some 2,300 square-feet of retail space, making it the largest open-air retail development in North America. The shopping centre can be accessed through Gateway Boulevard or Parsons Road SW.
While the Mill Woods Recreation Centre offers endless fun and fitness for the whole family. It has a 45-metre swimming pool with waves, a dive tank, two NHL-sized arenas, tennis courts, running tracks and fitness amenities that the community needs. It is at 7207 28 Ave NW.
new coMMunities with style
With such an appealing array of lifestyle amenities, no wonder new communities have come up fast and furious in southeast Edmonton. The Hills at Charlesworth from Cantiro is one of the most popular new communities in the area, maybe in the whole city.

sustainability at heart
Nick Young, Senior Development Manager at Cantiro Communities – the group’s land development arm – says recreational opportunities and sustainability are front and centre at The Hills at Charlesworth.
The community’s Sustainability Plaza, in fact, won the Royal Town Planning Institute’s International Award for Planning Excellence. It uses repurposed, gaily coloured sea can containers to illustrate the community’s sustainability, complimentary wifi is also provided, a 9-hole championship disc golf course is also included. “There is also a solar-powered playground, designed and constructed in Helsinki, Finland,” he adds.
Also found within the community is the Royal Centre Hills commercial centre along Ellerslie Road, “to name a few, it features a restaurant, medical clinic, convenience store, liquor store, and daycare, providing added convenience for the community’s residents,” Young says. There is also the new major shopping destination of Harvest Pointe on Ellerslie Road and 50th Street that is a major boon to The Hills at Charlesworth residents.
Cantiro Homes also just unveiled their new three-storey single family homes here. They are part of the Cantiro Life CollectionTM which includes three distinct home series, each tailored to what matters most to you in your home. Family, Career and Entertain are, essentially, turnkey homes with amazing benefits over all three finished floors of functional living space.
Each one has floor-to-ceiling windows for natural light and amazing views, an expansive second level outdoor lounge where residents have front seats to enjoy the 30 acres of parkland right outside your front door. There is a Career Park View 18 showhome available to view at 407 39 Street SW. Or go to hillsatcharlesworth.ca for more info.
