Smart is sexy in Edmonton’s new home scene, as more builders offer smart home automation as part of the package and some now even offer this as a standard. It’s hard to pinpoint what I start with when I design a $2.2 million dollar dream home, but I can say with assurance that it always has a defined personality. I also prefer to connect the outside to the inside in both color palette and style genre, then every element of that home will fit within the boundaries of that style. To create tension and excitement, I often mix style genres, like in this home, where I paired renaissance art with contemporary art, and leaned more modern with my chandeliers and light fixtures, but kept the millwork traditional. This particular home was put together with Old English Tudor stylings and designs. I pushed the main and second floors into classic traditional, but the basement “man-cave” has a rock n’ roll vibe to it. Complete with Nano Window Wall, Roche Bobois inspired sectional, cool matte gun metal black pool table and gold gilded portraits of great rock n roll icons like Robert Plant and Mick Jagger, who happen to be modern English.

Know what finishes you want to use for your lighting, plumbing and cabinetry hardware. Know what tone of wood you want. In 1960, John Chichak started the company, specializing in lawn maintenance with a small garden centre in north Edmonton. In 1989, John’s children - Deborah, Tim, Wayne, and son-in-law Rod, decided to build a garden centre that was to be a year-round destination for gardening, home décor and so much more. On April 23, 1991, the new Greenland celebrated it’ grand opening.

Since then, Greenland has grown to be one of the largest garden centers in Alberta. There is a wide array of products here ranging from garden décor and supplies to home décor.
