Be a part of what’s happening!
Northwest Arkansas’ cultural community is strong! Join us, as we experience some of the best artists in the world, right here at home.
Dear friends, Welcome to the 2014-15 season at Walton Arts Center! Over the past several decades, Dickson Street and the Fayetteville entertainment district have grown and changed. We are proud to have been a cornerstone of that change. Arts and community are intertwined here in Northwest Arkansas. At Walton Arts Center, it is our pleasure to provide visual and performing arts to our vibrant community. I hope you will join us this year. There is plenty to explore at WAC. One of my favorite opportunities is the 10x10 Arts series; this series of exploration returns with 10 interesting, engaging and entertaining events. This year, you can experience a one-of-a-kind organ concert or a tandem duo of a juggler and a ballerina. The 10x10 Arts Series will take you on a journey… and tickets start at just $10! Other highlights of our season include the return of the family-favorite musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the Walton Arts Center premier of the Tony ® Award-winning Once. You can meet MythBusters and ballroom dancers and a man who believes he is one of Santa’s elves. We are introducing a new comedy series called LOL @ WAC! It will be a great season! And as great programming happens in the theater, there will be more excitement around our facility. Cranes and construction crews will become part of the WAC landscape as we begin to expand parking, backstage and eventually the lobby and Starr Theater. We are embarking on the next transformation of Dickson Street. I hope to see you at WAC! Cheers to this year & to the future of art in Northwest Arkansas!

Rhonda Vincent & the Rage is one of the most celebrated bands in bluegrass. A five-time Grammy nominee famously crowned “The New Queen of Bluegrass” by The Wall Street Journal, Rhonda Vincent adds savvy contemporary touches to her music, while drawing deeply from the authentic traditions of classic bluegrass. She is an accomplished multiinstrumentalist — playing the mandolin, guitar, fiddle and snare drum — and is renowned for mastering the progressive chord structures and multi-range, fast paced vocals intrinsic to bluegrass music. Among the band’s many honors is its distinction as the most awarded band in bluegrass music – including Song of the Year, Entertainer of the Year and seven consecutive Vocalist of the Year awards, all from the International Bluegrass Music Association. It’s no wonder the Buffalo News says Vincent “is to bluegrass now what Aretha Franklin once was to soul music.”

The Hot Sardines Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015 | Tickets $10-25
Named one of the best jazz bands in New York by Forbes magazine, The Hot Sardines is born of a unique recipe: take hot jazz and sultry standards from the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s, sprinkle in the rich Dixieland sounds of New Orleans, add a dash of wartime Paris flavor and stir in vibrant musical surprises that hold audiences captive. From their straight-up, foot-stomping sound and a tap dancer whose feet count as two members of the rhythm section, the band’s unforgettably wild live shows have a style and sound distinctly their own. Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 | Tickets $37-67
Get ready for an evening of standout stand-up as Billboard Comedy Chart topping and American Comedy Award-winning comedian Bill Engvall returns to Walton Arts Center. Perhaps best known as one of Jeff Foxworthy’s comedian friends (along with Ron White and Larry the Cable Guy in the Blue Collar Comedy Tour), it all began in the early ‘90s when Engvall decided to try his hand at stand-up comedy. Then came a decade of TV appearances and sold-out engagements. Fastforward to 2012 when he reunited with Foxworthy for the “Them Idiots Whirled Tour” on CMT, and the rest is history. If you’re looking for fun, fast paced and “fairly clean” comedy chock-full of laughs, this is your ticket!
Friday & Saturday, Dec. 5-6, 2014 | Tickets $15-35
Second City fans, rejoice! The legendary sketch comedy troupe will make their seventh appearance at Walton Arts Center with a holiday performance like no other. In addition to having resident companies in Chicago and Toronto, The Second City’s touring ensembles entertain audiences around the world. Experience the magic (and mayhem!) of the holiday season with The Second City’s Nut-Cracking Holiday Revue.

Thursday, April 23, 2015 | Tickets $28-58
Saturday, May 16, 2015 | Tickets $20-40
He’s back! Join us for an evening of conversation and masterful satire as NPR humorist and The New York Times bestselling author David Sedaris shares top-of-mind reflections from his collection of oft-snarky and sarcastic personal essays. As one of America’s preeminent humor writers, known for his sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, Sedaris’ deft ability to slice through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves he is one of the most observant writers of the human condition today – and bar none, the funniest.
She has performed live on Leno, Letterman, Conan and nearly every stand-up TV show ever made. She’s released three Salute to the Troops specials with comedian Ron White (who calls her “easily one of the best comics alive”) and her latest special, “Gone Madigan,” premiered on Showtime and Netflix. Over Kathleen Madigan’s 25-year career, she’s gone from one-nighters to theater gigs to headlining Vegas and once even packing in 300 nights on the road in a single year. Here for one night only, the award-winning Madigan will deliver hilarious highlights from her 2013 stand-up special, Madigan Again.
The Dan Band Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 | Tickets $18-38
Dan Finnerty first caught America’s attention as the foul-mouthed wedding singer in the hit film “Old School,” followed by appearances in “Starsky and Hutch” and “The Hangover.” What started as a drunken joke with Finnerty singing “I Am Woman” at a karaoke bar, has spiraled out of control into the genesis of The Dan Band – a cult phenomenon drawing rave reviews from The New York Times, Variety and Rolling Stone. With its edgy, irreverent and wildly popular renditions of pop songs like “Lady” by Styx and “Milkshake” by Kelis, The Dan Band is sure to have you laughing and singing out loud!

The Bad Plus
New York Standards Quartet
Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 | Tickets $15-30
Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 | Tickets $15-30
The Bad Plus has spent more than a decade redefining what a piano-bass-drums trio can and should be. Now it’s your chance to experience it firsthand, as this jazz band takes their distinctive musical M.O. to captivating heights – proving that the rules of musical convention are made to be broken. While the band’s repertoire is primarily original music, The Bad Plus is perhaps best known for their deconstructions of pop and rock classics including Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” “The Bad Plus is technically proficient enough for jazz heads, yet groovy and catchy enough for causal fans,” says the Montreal Gazette. “This Minnesota trio will never overstay its welcome.”
Uniquely devoted to the radical reinvention of famous pop songs and Broadway show tunes, this New Yorkbased quartet’s liberating interpretations of jazz favorites has been met with phenomenal audience response, triggering booking requests from festivals and venues worldwide. When the foursome first formed, the concept was straightforward: play the jazz standards they love and grew up with, but with lots of freedom and room for interpretation. The quartet has since developed its own language within the tradition of the standard jazz repertoire, forming a near telepathic relationship onstage. Join us in welcoming this collective class act!

Cyrus Chestnut Quartet: Brubeck Reimagined
Clarice Assad Trio
Clarice Assad Trio Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015 | Tickets $15-30
You won’t want to miss this special performance by the sophisticated and accomplished Clarice Assad – classical and jazz composer, arranger, pianist and vocalist. A native of Rio de Janeiro, she was born into one of Brazil’s most famous musical families as the daughter of preeminent guitarist/composer Sergio Assad. Her music embraces a wide variety of styles, including both original compositions and her own arrangements of popular Brazilian songs and jazz standards. She sings in Portuguese, French, Italian and English, and thrives in exploring her voice as an instrument through a vast array of innovative techniques. “When she scats,” says the Tuscan Citizen, “she sings with intonation as precise as any digital device, improvising cascading scales that take on sparkling lives of their own.”
Cyrus Chestnut Quartet: Brubeck Reimagined Saturday, March 21, 2015 | Tickets $15-30
Get ready for a musical experience like never before when jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut and his trio take the stage to deliver their own brand of earthy, freewheeling entertainment. “What makes Chestnut the best jazz pianist of his generation,” says Time magazine, “is his willingness to abandon notes and play space.” Leveraging his affinity for gospel, Chestnut also enjoys mixing styles and resists being typecast in any one niche. Despite a sense of playful showmanship, he takes jazz very seriously and has earned a reputation for skillful versatility and an ability for blending sounds that are not to be missed.
Joe Locke Quartet with vocalist Kenny Washington Saturday, April 11, 2015 | Tickets $15-30
As a soloist, jazzman Joe Locke is capable of stunning power and broad emotional range. This elite vibraphonist is widely considered to be one of the major voices of his instrument. But it wasn’t until the last decade that he emerged as the composer, bandleader and conceptualist he is today. In concert, Locke challenges himself on every tune and pushes the envelope musically. Joining Locke onstage is his piano-bass-drums trio, along with award-winning vocalist Kenny Washington – a jazz virtuoso who thrills audiences with his soulful interpretations and seemingly limitless range. From Locke’s seamless arrangements to his musical storytelling, you’ll love every last number!

Spencer Bohren Live in Concert!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Walton Arts Center began a journey with musician Spencer Bohren last season. We were thrilled to present his educational concert Down the Dirt Road Blues to local middle school & high school students. It was a hit! The show incorporates traditional folk, blues and country music, performed beautifully by one man with skills honed over forty-five years of performance. Bohren animates the musicians and singers from the past with respectful readings of their music and spellbinding stories, bringing history to life in the most compelling manner. This February, the journey continues. Bohren’s popular Down the Dirt Road Blues will once again be presented to students, but this time there’s a bonus for the public! You can enjoy a 90-minute concert by this inspiring musician or take a blues guitar workshop in an intimate setting.

Artist Pat Musick collaborated with her husband, Jerry Carr, a former NASA astronaut and commander at Skylab 4, to create Our Fragile Home. This nationally touring exhibition takes inspiration from eight words used by six astronauts to describe the planet Earth as it appears from outer space: fragile, beauty, harmony, balance, protect, sustain, nurture, and steward. Musick’s compelling works in steel, wood, slate, alabaster, Japanese paper, and other materials evoke the elemental strength and resilience of our world as well as its fragility.
