Suzano and Japanese immigration
On June 19, it will be 113 years since the Japanese immigration to Brazil, and currently, Suzano has the privilege of having about 16 thousand Japanese descendants composing its population. Immigration brought Suzano political and economic contributions, in addition to providing new cultural aspects, thus contributing to Suzano’s identity. With about 30 ventures headed by Japanese or descendants, events that celebrate the Japanese people’s roots (such as the Cherry Blossom Festival and the Undokai Gymkhana). The 1908 immigration wave is an important factor in the cultural and economic development of the city, extending to the present day.
