MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT

To drawing a croissant, began by taking photos and scans of te elevations, plans and sections of the croissant. The images were traced and detailed drawing using a range of pens and pencils, to give the drawings contour and form. These drawings was achieved via shading and hatching.

From tutorials, I learnt how to draw a technical axonometirc drawing of the croissant and had a great improvements on my hatching skills. In addition, I realize the importance of accurate technical representation and creating a clean and organized layout.

Using illustrator to trace the world by using pen tool, which was really time consuming because I am a beginner of illustrator user. And color the world by using eyedropper tool to make sure the highest similarity between my drawing and the original Mario World.

In module 2, I designed my own Mario world. Firstly I projected the 2D worlds onto a separate piece of paper into the 3D dimensions, and traced on top of the 3D projections with my pen then scanned it.

From this module, I got a huge improvement on my digital drawing skills by achieving information and helps from tutorial and learnt how to project the 2D flat images onto the 3D world.

In module 3, I used Rhinoceros’ 2D and 3D paneling tools to create panels along a 59.4 square meter in Tasmania. I aimed to simulate the flow of the landscape by varying the heights and sizes of the openings of each panel to create a fairly smooth gradient.
By using 12 different patterns, what I was trying to show is to create a surface that was combined of various multi - degreed slopes. Although on the certain level, the digital model was successful, the curved topography quite increased the difficulty of making the physical model and presenting the original inspirations, which is a little bit of shame.

Layout of two perspective views
Real. This perspective collage is based on the real situation according to the reference reading. In the real word, the drawing presents a more poor and simple village living life strongly compared with imaginative word. As mentioned in the story, "the streets are long and straight", which displayed at the left side of drawing. On the right side, the a old carriage demonstrated a heavy - labored work of peasants. Moreover, there were several pieces of broken cloth and cracks against walls to enhance a specific atmosphere. 14
Imagination. This perspective collage is based on the imaged condition from the sixth chapter of book. It roughly demonstrated a combination of Marco polo’s description where came from his experience of journey. The drawing included several elements, such as waterfall, vigorous climbers, roman columns, mid-century decorations and Venice’s boat which was said the hometown of Marco polo.

REFLECTION From this subject, I learnt lots of useful skills such as digital drawing, hand drawing skill and layout. Each of 4 modules represents an individual and unique aspect of design that utilises skills which can be exclusive or transferrable and lectures provide a great sample for each module by introducing theoretical concepts and precedents. Lectures of Module 1 introduces ideas of how to present designs technically and precisely. Module 2 is more about axonometric views as our basic drawing and using of illustrator to complete our Mario World. Module 3 focuses on the concept of developable surface and digital fabrication. Module 4 works on perspectival projection and digital techniques of using photoshop. Weekly readings were helping us to understand more background knowledge. And the associated studios and workshops provided me with an invaluable source of technical advice. I had never used digital design programs so I was amazed at how quick I became quiet proficient at operating these. In addition, the lecture program introduced many new concepts to me, such as ideas about frame, field, patten, notation, space and the importance of representation. These I found interesting to investigate and exciting to apply my own work. Personally, this subject is a big challenge for me and I spent huge time on doing each of Modules. However, I am still getting more and more excited to face next few tasks from architecture, the skills I have gained and concepts I have come to understand have revealed a new way to understanding the world. I am aiming to be a good architect, the subject is like a door for me to getting into architecture world. Yes, tried but enjoyable. Thanks FODR.
