PROJECT 01 THE "WALK OF LIFE" I HAVE BEEN TO THE CENTRAL MARKET KUALA LUMPUR TO DO MY FIRST CASE STUDY AND I WAS ASSIGNED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING TASKS: TASK 01A-VIDEO SHOOTING (2-4 MINUTES) TASK 01B-PHOTO COLLAGE

COLLAGE I HAVE PRODUCED THIS COLLAGE TO CAPTURE THE ESSENCE OF THE CENTRAL MARKET. I HIGHLIGHTED THE THREE MAIN ETHNIC'S GROUPS IN MALAYSIA BY ARRANGING THE MOST REPRESENTATIVE TRADITIONAL ELEMENTS, BATIK, CHINESE LANTERN, AND SAREE AS CENTRAL MARKET IS WHERE OUR ETHNIC'S CULTURES MEET. BESIDES, I ALSO INCLUDED SOME HANDICRAFTS THAT CAN BE FOUND IN THE CENTRAL MARKET. BELOW IS THE QR CODE OF THE VIDEO PRESENTATION. SCAN ME

PROJECT 02

IN THIS ASSIGNMENT, I WAS ASSIGNED TO PRODUCE ANTHROPOMETRY DRAWINGS, 2D COMPOSITION, AND 3D MODEL.

THE "EXPLORATION" TASK 02A-ANTHROPOMETRY TASK 02B-THE "ELEMENTS"

TASK 02A

ANTHROPOMETRY I HAVE PRODUCED A MEASUREMENT AND SCALE DRAWINGS OF MYSELF BY REFERRING TO THE NEUFERT ARCHITECT'S DATA BOOK WITH SCALE 1:10. THEN, I HAVE CHOOSEN 10 POSITIONS STATED IN THE BOOK AND DRAW MY FIGURE WITH MEASUREMENT ACCORDING TO THE POSITIONS.

TASK 02B

2D COMPOSITION I HAVE EXPLORED AND TRANSFORMED MY COLLAGE FROM TASK 02A INTO 2D COMPOSITION BY APPLYING THREE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES THAT I ANALYZED FROM THE COLLAGE. THERE ARE A TOTAL THREE COLOURS WERE USED IN THIS 2D COMPOSITION, GREEN, RED, AND YELLOW.

DEVELOPMENT OF 2D COMPOSITION

EXPLAINATIONS COLOURS USED - RED ( CHINESE ) -GREEN ( MALAY) -YELLOW ( INDIAN )

REPETITION THE REPETITION OF BLACK STRING WHICH IS LOCATED AROUND THE MAIN ELEMENT, THE SQUARE BLOCK IS TO REPRESENT THE TOTAL OF 32 ENTRANCES IN THE CENTRAL MARKET INCLUDING THE HORIZONTAL & VERTICAL AXIS. THEY ARE SPREADING OUT FROM THE CENTER WHICH IS THE JOINING POINT OF THE TWO AXIS TO SHOW THAT PEOPLE ALL AROUND WOULD GATHER IN THIS CENTRAL MARKET FROM ANY DIRECTION.

REPETITION & HIERARCHY THE SQUARES ARE ARRANGED FROM SMALL TO BIG AND IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS ALONG THE TWO AXIS TO CREATE A HIERARCHY TO REPRESENT THE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF FLOORS. IT ALSO REPRESENTS THE FLOOR STEPS LOCATED AT A DIFFERENT POINT IN THE CENTRAL MARKET.

AXIS THE FIRST ELEMENT THAT I STARTED WITH IS THE AXIS. THE VERTICAL AXIS REPRESENTS THE WALKWAY DIRECTLY FROM THE MAIN ENTRANCE TO THE OTHER END. THE HORIZONTAL AXIS ACT AS A GUIDE FOR THE ARRANGEMENT OF OTHER ELEMENTS.

REPETITION THERE ARE THREE RECTANGLES LOCATED ALONG THE AXIS WHICH REPRESENT THE STALLS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE CENTRAL MARKET. THEY USED TO BE THE SAME SIZE BUT PLACED IN DIFFERENT ORIENTATION IS TO SHOW THE DIFFERENT CULTURAL ELEMENTS IN THE CENTRAL MARKET

TASK 02B

3D MODEL I HAVE TRANSFORMED THE 2D COMPOSITION INTO A 3D ABSTRACT MODEL BY USING PLANE AND VOLUME. BESIDES, I ALSO APPLIED THE THREE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES USED IN 2D COMPOSITION IN THIS 3D MODEL.

EXPLAINATIONS THE 3D MODEL REMAINS THE SAME AS 2D AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE TOP VIEW BUT IT HAS A DIFFERENT PATTERN FROM THE OTHER VIEWS.

THE REPETITION OF THE RECTANGLE IS RAISED AT DIFFERENT HEIGHTS ALONG THE AXIS. IT REPRESENTS THE DIFFERENT CULTURAL ACTIVITIES THAT OCCUR IN THE CENTRAL MARKET.

THE REPETITION OF BLACK STRINGS IS RAISED IN DIFFERENT HEIGHTS THAT TOUCH THE DIFFERENT POINTS ON DIFFERENT PLANES. SOME OF IT IS CUT THROUGH THE OUTER PLANE AND TOUCHES THE INNER PLANE. THE JOINING PART OF EACH STRING CREATES SHAPES AND THEY ARE CUT OFF FROM BIG TO SMALL TO REPRESENT THE OPENING AROUND THE CENTRAL MARKET.

THE REPETITION OF SQUARES IS RAISED AT DIFFERENT HEIGHTS BUT IN AN ORDERLY MANNER. IT REPRESENTS THE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF FLOORS AND THE HIERARCHY IS ACHIEVED IN THIS SITUATION.

THE AXIS IS SHOWN BY CREATING A FEW OPENINGS ON THE PLANES. IT GOES ALL THE WAY INTO THE CENTER OF THE MODEL AND ALL THE WAY OUT TO THE OPPOSITE ENTRANCE. THE OPENINGS ARE GETTING SMALLER FOLLOWING THE HEIGHT OF THE PLANES. THEY REPRESENT THE WALKWAY DIRECTLY FROM THE MAIN ENTRANCE. REPETITION AND HIERARCHY ARE ACHIEVED.

COMMENTS INTERIM REVIEW'S REVIEWER

COURSE'S LECTURER -INTERIOR FURNITURE ORIENTATION LOOKS LIKE AN OFFICE. -FLOOR PLAN LACKS CREATIVE AND NOT SO INTERESTING -SUGGESTS TO ADD SOME DECORATION MOTIFS ON FRONT ELEVATION WHICH RELATED TO THE BATIK -ONE MISSING MEZZANINE FLOOR PLAN -MAKE THE FLOOR PLAN MORE INTERESTING BY ADDING SOME SHADOW, TEXTURE OR RENDERING

-SIDE ELEVATION LOOKS BORING AND QUITE SIMPLE -WINDOW LOOKS LIKE A NORMAL HOUSING WINDOW -SUGGESTS TO ADD SOME DECORATIONS MOTIFS WHICH RELATED TO THE BATIK ON THE FACADE OR CHANGE THE TYPE OF WINDOW

-FAILED IN ANTHROPOMETRY AS THE HEIGHT OF MEZZANINE FLOOR IS NOT SUFFICIENT -THE CURVED ROOF IS NOT THAT OBVIOUS -THE WAY OF PUTTING THE STAIRS AND BED IS INCONVENIENT -SUGGESTS TO EXTEND THE MEZZANINE FLOOR AND ADD A SUPPORT STRUCTURE BELOW IT

TASK 03D

THE "FINAL POD" I MODIFIED THE DESIGN BASED ON THE FEEDBACK AND COMMENTS GIVEN BY THE LECTURERS. THEN, I CAME OUT WITH NEW DRAWINGS AND MODELS AND COMPOSED THEM INTO A PRESENTATION BOARD.
