M1: How to draw a crossiant Photos and scanned images

How to measure a Croissant? This A3 plan contains two elevations, a base and a plan view of the croissant. It was created by photographing the croissant at various angles and perspectives. These twodimensional images layout in the A3 pages and they were preserved in 1:1 scale. My croissant has a length of 158 mm and 85 mm in width and 55 mm in height. The ruler tool in Photoshop was used to make sure the scale is 1:1. This conveys the information about the shape, form and which would later help in portraying the geometric drawing of croissant.

Tracing and Drawing During the tracing and drawing stage, I did two steps. One of the outlines and one for shading and hatching. Firstly, scan the various perspectives and sections of the croissant. The drawing materials and equipment are used, such as T-square, trancing paper. Different pencil ranging from 2H, 2B, 4B, 8B to make different line weight and gradient of shading. I’ve been using 2H for drawing the draft outline of each image and apply 0.4 fine line to complete the final outline. 0.2 fineline were used for the middle parting of the crossiant. For the shading and hatching part, the 2B, 4B, and 8B were employed to make the depth and light of the croissant. The 8B was used to form the darkest part of the croissant. For the Highest part, the 2H pencil was applied. After finishing the drawing, scanned the hand- drawing to the computer and adjusted the contrast level of the images. To make the work neater, the eraser tool was used to clean up the background.

Axonometric Drawing This is the axonometric drawing of croissant. The axonometric drawing aims to turn 2D into the 3D drawing. This is the help to show the structure of the croissant and help us to understand the structure of the objects. To draw the axonometric of the croissant, first set up the drawing place, the masking tape was used to stick the sketch on the mounting board. And use the adjustable angle set at 45 degrees. Firstly, outlining each section of the croissant on the grid. The edge of the of the croissant has to present on the intersection points of the gird. Then combined the three section into one of the images on the right.

M2: Flatness vs projection The making of new Mario world. Color Mostly selected on the basis of original images. Each projection can only see three faces, above, right side, color matching to reduce saturation and increase the gray level. Gradian tool was used To apply a color change. Aligning front plane of the image to the back plane of projection. Doing so creates an exact shape image of the chosen plane. I just naturally followed the image order I received and added the thickness of each object and I didn’t do blank leaving rather than fill the whole. Thus there the disposal of water kind of irrational. As Some section of back covered by the front. E.g., the ends of the water. Just reminded space were not overlapped. Shades are added to preserve depth of the object and space. The fireworks are traced from the combined mairo’s world completed via Adobe Illustrator. The color and shape based on the original images. Gradian tool is used, and shades are added to create the depth between the space and objects.

Then scanned the hand drawing and traced it in illustrator to add color and texture. Axonometric projection is a drawing of graphical forecast used for producing two-dimensional images of three-dimensional objects. In the axonometric is such that the three axes of space appear equally foreshortened, Every angle you can see is that 45° or 135 angles or perfectly vertical. M3: Pattern vs surface

The direction of the angles indicates the trend of the curves. It suggests that line contractor has been utilized in the module to present the landscape the temple as the mountains centered in the island and surround by the more pain massif and small villages formed by different tribes. The trapezoidal bodies present in the tribes as it shows more spatial and shapes like a tent. The arrangement of grids is perceived to be organic and natural to match the terrain. Four shapes of panels are utilized in the attempt to form the landscape of the terrain. They are made in series which three of them were developed from triangular shapes but in different height to preserve the height exchanges. The trapezoid bodies bring the spatial perception and also balanced the arrangement of the layout which made it more interesting.

M4: Fame vs Field INVISIBLE CITY:

Perspective 1tries to portrays Marco Polo’s first impression of this city. This view that looks lean to the left through the arcade. The open area allows people to view the streetscape of the city. It The stairs are being placed to show a stage-like feeling. A narrow arcade is illustrating the working environment(slaughterhouse, bank etc.) in the first perspective. It was entirely different in contrast to the second perspective scene. The characters and background were chosen to reflect on the concept of the temporary. For example, The man site on the ground was writing a letter to say goodbye to his friends might take with the promise of a return next year. The woman was staring at the way to another city which suggested they are planning to leave. The people being pushing out of the door. It indicates that the social environment was under unrest because the city was just a temporary shelter for these people, not an ultimate destination. This ‘vagrant’ city was immobile which influence the Macro Polo’s mood turns into heavy.

The Second perspective is viewed From Macro Polo standing on the stair and staring the second half The second perspective illustrates the half -Sophronia. The background was set on the carnival environment, and the character chosen appear to relax in the endless amusements laughter. The children and family as well the old man playing the harp creates an atmosphere of Stable and harmonious compare with the tension of the first half city. It gives to more utopian feeling in a stable, permanent environment. Sophronia where Cardinal was taken place. From this view, the facial expression of characters could be viewed to create a relaxed atmosphere.

REFLECTION

The four modules in this course present a range of ideas, concepts, and techniques that I ever learned or heard before. The lecture gives the overall conceptual knowledge of each project we are doing. It allows us to have a basic understanding of design principles and design thinking. The concepts of flatness, projection, surface, frame, and field provide me an insight of the design world. Through these modules, I learned my weakness and realized that how much practices I need. I also gain many digital skills from this course such as illustrator, photoshop, and rhino. Also, through the period of learning, I realized that to achieve a good work, I should put more effort into improving my aesthetic understanding and engage more with others. The process of developing ideas, presenting and receiving feedback from others and observing others work allows me continuously find improvement of my work and ways of refinement.

Skill gained

For Module 1, I begin to understand the relation between 2D plans and 3D space by learning the orthographic and axonometric constructs. I learned the technique of axonometric drawing which turning 2D is drawing of the project into 3D. Module 2 allows me to develop this concept further as I was able to explore the spacial relations and axonometric projection creatively. In addition to this, I have also developed a range of digital skills such as lighting effects, adjust the constant level. A new program Rhino was introduced in Module 3, This was one of the most interesting but challenging projects to me, as it needs handmaking process. It needs to rapidly learn an extensive list of commands to keep up with the modules. The handmaking part should conduct precisely which also time-consuming. Module 4 is more about the visualizing words into images with story. This module requires more complex subjective notions in the historical background. In this module, we learned a list of new digital demands about how to make an old guard in rhino.

Areas need to be improved

I felt like my least successful module was module 4 as I could not make the perspectives express the narrative lines of the story as the way I thought. The overall notion of abstract design which provided a challenge to me as it was an entirely new concept. The application and images in my mind which portrays the city of Sophronia could not wholly copy into the digital word. The failure due to lacking step plan, I should adjust the perspective based on the images resource I got rather than setting up the perspective first which increased the difficulty to complete the perspective. The digital techniques need more practices to achieve a better result of work. I believe with more assistance on the technical aspects which will assist in better projection on Module 4.
