ven though sports is a part of school curriculum for kids, there is a section for whom it is still a dream. So, taking a step in this direction, Pepe Jeans is supporting underprivileged kids through their initiative ‘football for all’. Kavindra Mishra, MD and CEO, Pepe Jeans India Limited says, “Pepe Jeans is synonymous with a youthful and spirited attitude, and sports is perhaps the truest form of this expression. We are proud to take our

collaboration with HT GIFA one step further with Football for All. Through this collaboration, we were able to provide a unique platform to these talented kids.” They also launched a 15-day campaign with HT GIFA, under which Hindustan Times readers were encouraged to nominate underprivileged children. Chand, a class 7 student from Vikas Puri who plays football at My Angels Academy, was nominated by Roopali Sharma for the match. Sharma, a resident of East of Kailash, says, “It’s a great event and everything is so very well organised. I have nominated

Chand. We need to encourage and motivate these kids so they get a platform and rise high. Events like these are very important as they don’t get a chance otherwise.” Chand idolises footballer Christiano Ronaldo and wishes to play for India someday. He says, “Mere ko pehle se football aata hai aur ab mere ko aur ache se sikhayenge. Seekh kar main apne India ki taraf se kheloonga.” A spokesperson from My Angels Academy says: “This will help in empowering the kids and is a start to ending their plight.” n

CELEBRATING THE MAGICT OF TEN he famous automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. recently launched Swift Deca, a limited edition model which is a tribute to one of sport’s ultimate symbols of glory — the number 10. This holds especially true for football, where the best players in the game’s history have proudly carried the legendary 10 on their backs. Maruti Suzuki Swift Deca celebrates and shares this very success of the high performers. To reinforce this association, Swift Deca launched the Play Like 10 Contest during HT GIFA 2016. This contest was

promoted on HT GIFA’s website wherein participants were supposed to name their five best international football players who wore the number 10 jersey and what they found common between the players and the car Swift Deca. The contest received an overwhelming response from football fans across age groups. Out of the responses received, 5 entries were shortlisted and 1 lucky winner was awarded an autographed football by Delhi Dynamos with some cool branded merchandise from the car brand. Shivam Sharma, 25, was the lucky winner for the Play like 10 Contest by Maruti

Suzuki Swift Deca. Being passionate about the sport, he mentioned the names of his favourite five international football players who have worn the number 10 jersey to win historic matches — Pele (Brazil), Diego Maradona (Argentina), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Ronaldinho (Brazil) and Wayne Rooney (England). He feels that the Maruti Suzuki Swift Deca is a great tribute to football’s most flamboyant players who have carried the legendary ‘10’ on their backs. Both connote the great spirit of celebration that football as a sport stands for.

part from being a businesswoman, philanthropist and a known face in the Delhi and Mumbai party circuits, Parmeshwar Godrej was also the undisputed scion of style. Following her death on Monday, the fashion fraternity remembers her poise and confidence. “When I met her for the first time in Mumbai, I was

just 19 and she was big star there. And, she spoke to me like she knew me for ages. I appreciated the fact she was basic, down to earth, fun to be with, and a very nice human being. I want to dedicate a show to all the women who have touched my life and she will be one of them,” says designer Rina Dhaka. “I had met her many years ago and she was epitome of style. She held her head high even among the most fashionable people around her, she was a head turner. And, she was the perfect hostess with an aura, nobody else had,” says FDCI president Sunil Sethi. Designer Malini Ramani also recounted some of her memories. “I knew her since I was a child as she was a family friend. She was always full of life , bursting with energy. She was kind and nice to everybody and used to do a lot of philanthropy work. She is lighting up the sky now.” For designer Suneet Varma, Godrej was his support system. “After my collection in early 90s, when I was studying in Mumbai she arrived one day at specially asked for me because I had done my Greek collection there which she loved. I will never forget all the knowledge she gave to me. She was brilliant, very welltravelled and informed and shared her passion for fashion,” he says. n
