WATFORD WORLD-CLASS INTERNATIONAL CONCERT SEASON 2016/17 A WELCOME FROM WATFORD COLOSSEUM’S VENUE DIRECTOR, JO DITCH

After many years we’re delighted to be able to offer music lovers in Watford and surrounding areas, a major season of international orchestras. In the 1970s and 1980s Watford hosted some of the great orchestras, conductors and soloists in the world and we are very pleased to be reestablishing this great Watford tradition. In our season we have two of the most outstanding Russian orchestras visiting us, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. Russian orchestras have a very distinctive and romantic quality and in music from Vaughan Williams, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Mussorgsky you will be able to hear why Russian orchestras are so highly regarded. Our other major visitor is the distinguished Czech orchestra, the Czech National Symphony, conducted by the eminent Libor Pesek. Dvorˇák is a particular favourite with British audiences and to hear this orchestra perform the Dvorˇák Cello Concerto and Dvorˇák New World symphony will be an incredible treat. A highlight of the season will be a gala concert given by Miloš Karadaglic´ who’s emerged as one of the superstars of the classical music world and a judge on Sky Arts’ Guitar Star. This great guitarist will perform music, which begins with Bach and goes right through to music by Lennon and McCartney. It will be a very special evening, not to be missed.

With this great cast of international musicians, this inaugural season will be a an accessible way to enjoy an unique experience whether you’re an existing music fan or wanting to try something new. Miloš Karadaglic´ says: ‘I’m very excited at the prospect of coming to the Watford Colosseum to perform my Bach to Beatles programme. I’ve heard for many years that the Watford Colosseum has one of the outstanding acoustics in the UK and I’ve known for a long time that many great recordings have been made there because of this. My Bach to Beatles project is something I hold close to my heart and I very much look forward to sharing this wonderful repertoire with you when I come to Watford on 13 December with my friends from the English Chamber Orchestra.’ Come along with your friends and support international classical music at Watford’s home of entertainment, the Watford Colosseum this season.

We look forward Our two other concerts will commence in to welcoming you all, February 2017 with the European Union Jo Ditch Chamber Orchestra, who are renowned for their performances of Mozart. THU 23 – SUN 26 FEBRUARY The Coral Shoot Out, one of snooker’s most exciting tournaments, will run from February 23 to 26 at the Watford Colosseum. THANK YOU FOR HELPING GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL Watford Colosseum is raising money to help fund brand-new operating theatres at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. Since 2009 HQ Theatres & Hospitality, alongside sister company Qdos Entertainment, has been supporting the Theatres for Theatres appeal, in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

©2007 Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (©2008 Theatres for Theatres) Registered charity no. 23582

So far the generosity of audiences and staff has raised over £855,000 for the charity, but we have more to raise to help build and equip a suite of new operating theatres at the Hospital which will open in 2017. You can donate using collection tins at Watford Colosseum or online at gosh.org/theatredonation Your support makes a huge difference. Thank you.
