COMING SOON! Dear Valued Customer, It’s hard to believe that the Holiday season is quickly approaching. Soon the falling leaves will turn to the falling white stuff. As the seasons are changing, so are a few things at the Wauconda Park District. Staff has been working diligently over the past several months to implement a new registration software.

As the New Year approaches we are taking this opportunity to update all of our records and start fresh with our new registration system. What does that mean? That means we will not carryover any old data from our previous system. Beginning today, you can create your own account by visiting www.waucondaparks.com and clicking on “Online Registration”. You will be brought directly to our new website where you can “Sign-In” or “Create an Account”. You may also receive an Account Request form by contacting us at registration@waucondaparks.com and we will create your account for you. Just submit the completed form by email to registration@waucondaparks.com, faxing to (847) 526-3791, or by visiting us at the Community Center, 600 North Main Street, Wauconda, IL 60084. While you are creating an account, feel free to check out all of the exciting Winter/Spring classes available for registration beginning on December 7, 2015 for Residents and December 14, 2015 for nonresidents. We look forward to better meeting your recreational needs now and in the future. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us and one of our staff members will be able to assist you. As We Grow Preschool

Preschool

Our preschool program is intended to help stimulate your child’s social, emotional, and creative development. Our program emphasizes socialization and learning through play. Classroom activities encourage problem solving, creativity, self-expression, and academics. This enables children to explore in a room filled with warmth, affection, and respect for others. It is the preschool environment where children learn to respect the authority of adults other than their parents. Friendship, sharing, and cooperation are modeled and practiced on a daily basis. The children participate in all types of learning including art, music, creative play, cooking, literature and science. Through carpet time, direct instruction, hands-on learning and free-time activities, the children are exposed to a curriculum that enhances their creativity and also provides a positive atmosphere for learning.

Eligibility

As We Grow Preschool

Children must be the proper age as of September 1st (December 1st for Pre-K) and must be toilet trained if enrolled in the 3, 4, or Pre-K program. Saturday Morning Playtime

Our Time

Join us for this perfect class for the working parents and child to spend some quality time starting off their weekend. This class will have a relaxed atmosphere to give both parents and children a chance to socialize and meet some new friends. Every class will start with some stimulating small gross motor toys. We will try to offer some things for every age. After everyone has had some free play, we will gather for a little circle time to read a story and learn new songs. From here we will introduce a parent/tot activity to get you moving together. Each class will end with a short group activity and song. This is a parent/child program.

Kindermusik Our Time introduces your child to a musical world filled with singing, rhyming, listening activities, instrument play, interactive story times, creative movement dance, parachute and bubble play. With his/her caregiver, all this interaction will further expand your child’s literacy skills, listening skills, fine/gross motor skills, self-confidence and communication skills. This class is a perfect stepping stone to the formal school experience, as many similar skills are developed to prepare your child for preschool. This semester we’ll be doing songs, dances, stories and activities about animal pets, farm animals, butterflies and nature. Give your child the very best start in life: Enroll today! No class 3/23.

Early Childhood Mom’s Time Out

Prepping for Preschool

Mom, need a break to do some shopping or run errands? This program will offer you a chance to get your little one active and socializing while you get some things done. We start each class with fun free play then move into circle time with stories and music. Every class will offer a craft time, too. We will provide snack and juice each week. Please inform us of any allergies at the time of registration. This is a popular class, so sign up now! This is a drop-off program. No class 1/18, 2/15.

Every year we get lots of questions from parents asking us if their child is ready for preschool. We asked our preschool teachers to help us develop a list of skills that they think make a well-rounded preschooler and we are putting that list to use in this great educational class. Many times parents think about the academic skills, but this list is more about the basics needed to be successful. With these skills, in place, the academics will follow. We will focus a lot on fine motor skills involving pencil grip and writing, painting, scissors and gluing. We will also be working on buttons, zippers, and puzzles as well. Some of our time each week will also be spent on following directions through carpet/story time, songs, dances and simple academic worksheets. Each class will have a short playtime as well, to work on socialization and friendship. This is a drop-off program. No class 3/24.

Youth Variety

Camp Wauconda is an active day camp that is planned by our Camp Coordinator, Camp Counselors, Recreation Staff, and campers themselves. Our staff to camper ratio is 1:10 for 1st-4th grade and 1:12 for 5th-8th grade. Kids are grouped by grade so they are interacting with kids their own age most of the time. Each session is two weeks long and a schedule of activities is distributed to each group. Each session, a new theme is incorporated into the activities, projects, and games that have been planned. There is also a field trip every Wednesday and a special event each Friday.

Club The Wauconda Park District’s club program provides a safe childcare environment that meets the physical and emotional needs of children as well as the needs of the parents. The Club program is available during the school year Monday through Friday, with before and after school care. The program is a relaxed recreational setting and is not academic based. Children participate in a variety of activities supervised by qualified staff. Daily activities include crafts, games, sports, free time, small group activities as well as a quiet space for homework. A morning and afternoon snack and drink are provided daily. Club is held at Robert Crown and Wauconda Grade School. The program is for children K-6th grade. Children must be registered for the school they attend. Matthews Middle School will be transported to Robert Crown and Wauconda Middle School will be transported to the Wauconda Grade School. AM kindergarteners can attend AM club, PM kindergarteners can attend PM club.

Stop in at Old Town Oil to sample imported 100% extra virgin olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar from all over the world! Explore the Spice House, known around the world for hand-selected spices and herbs, and featuring hand-blended ethnic Chicago neighborhood seasonings. Owners, Tom and Patty Erd, will share their expertise with the group. There will be some time for shopping at the other boutique shops on the street including a dog bakery, knitting shop, antiques, and gift shop. Shopping discounts provided. Are you getting hungry yet? After all the shopping, enjoy lunch at the Celtic Knot Public House. At time of Registration please pick your lunch. Choices are Irish Chicken Soup or Soup of the Day, Corned Beef & Cabbage with boiled potatoes and steamed carrots, Irish BLT served with chips, or Public House Salad with your choice of dressing and for dessert Apple Crumble. After lunch, relax on the scenic drive by the Skokie Sculpture Park in route to IL Nut and Candy, specializing in hand-made chocolates, bulk candy, nuts, and gift baskets. Special tour discounts and samples. Trip includes transportation by park district bus, tours, and lunch. Softball Field Parking Lot $61 $49 8/14

Policies Behavior Policy To ensure safe and enjoyable programs, activities, and facilities for all residents, the Wauconda Park District has developed the following Code of Conduct. Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times when involved in Park District programs, activities, events, leagues, and while using the Park District Facilities and Parks.

Policies

1. Show respect to all participants and staff. 2. Refrain from using foul or obscene language. 3. Refrain from causing bodily harm to participants and staff. 4. Refrain from communicating threats, inappropriate comments, or actions that can be considered as any type of harassment, direct threat or actions that poses a threat by gesture, words, or actions. 5. Exhibit tolerance and courtesies and commonly accepted behavior towards our diverse community. 6. Show respect to equipment, supplies, and facilities. 7. Exhibit good sportsmanship at athletic events whether an active participant or observer. 8. The use, suspected use, or consumption of alcohol or illegal substances on Park District property is prohibited. While alcohol is approved for select special and off property events, it is expected that all residents and participants will exhibit good judgment and moderation when alcohol is consumed. The Wauconda Park District reserves the right to dismiss without refund any participant who violates the behavior policy. In addition, if it is felt that such actions pose a threat to the general safety or welfare of other participants, an individual or group may risk consequences associated with the summoning of the Wauconda Police.

Dog Policy Dogs are welcome in our parks, however for safety reasons some areas are not acceptable for dogs. Dogs are not allowed during any special event in which there is a high concentration of people in a confined area. Dogs are also not allowed on any play field area. These areas include bleachers, or spectators areas, soccer, baseball, softball fields, dugout areas, court areas, or playgrounds. Please kindly understand and respect this policy.

Photo/Privacy Policy The Wauconda Park District uses photographs of participants in programs and special events to inform others about the recreational opportunities available in our community. We do not use identification in our brochure without prior consent. If you do not wish to have your picture taken, please inform the photographer. All personal information given to us through registration will be kept confidential. At no time will the WPD give, sell, or release personal information without your prior consent.

Notice to Parents- Drop Off and Pick Up Attention parents—it is your responsibility to walk your minor child to and from class. Dropping kids off in front of our building is considered a safety issue. If a child is left unattended after a class or activity for a long period of time, we will call the police.

Class Schedules All classes listed in the brochure have dates that detail when the class will meet. If a class is missed during the scheduled session for instructor illness or other conflict, a “make-up” class will be added to the end of the session or a class will be extended. A note or a call from the park district, or a class announcement will communicate that change to you. We are only closed for major holidays. Again, please refer to the class schedule or call as we do NOT follow the school’s schedule for all classes.

Policies Safety/Waiver/Insurance The Wauconda Park District is currently a member of PDRMA—a risk management pool made up of 154+ area park districts. Through their directives and guidance we are constantly striving to make your park district the safest it can be. For liability purposes the Wauconda Park District requires an adult to sign a waiver before participation can begin. The Wauconda Park District provides NO insurance for any injury or damage that may occur. We strongly recommend that you check with your insurance carrier.

NISRA/ADA The Wauconda Park District complies with the Americans for Disabilities Act. Persons with special needs are encouraged to contact the park district regarding accommodations to our programs. You may also contact NISRA at 815.459.0737, which we are a member of, who can assist you with the programs and services they offer. NISRA offers a full line of programs from infant to senior and Special Olympics.

Residency To qualify as a resident, you must reside within the village. Households located in unincorporated Wauconda are considered NON-RESIDENT. If you are unsure, you can check your property tax bill to see what park district you pay taxes to. PROOF OF RESIDENCY MAY BE REQUIRED.
