Dear Residents,
Program Affiliates
I hope you and your family are doing well. The past few months have been an exci ng me for our District. In keeping with our mission of “enriching lives in our community by providing quality recrea onal opportuni es”, our Board of Commissioners announced in September the acquisi on of the iconic Phil’s Beach site. Some of you may recall back in its heyday, Phil’s Beach was a des na on loca on for many people. Families and friends could swim for hours in Bangs Lake, sit in the park, enjoy a picnic lunch, and of course, riding the “J” slide. Unfortunately, due to the rising cost for insurance for the private, family owned beach, the Reilly family was forced to close this beloved a rac on in 1989. However, the memories of Phil’s Beach have lived in the hearts of many over the years. We commend the Reilly family for their commitment to preserving the property as open space for future genera ons to enjoy. We are honored that they have chosen our District to be stewards of this property. This is a tremendous opportunity for our District but more so for the en re Wauconda community. The District is currently selec ng a design firm to assist us in developing a master plan for the site. This process will assist us in determining what steps are needed to re-open the site as a public beach along with the financial impacts for the improvements. During this process there will be mes that we seek public input, we hope you will offer your comments and sugges ons. Our vision is to preserve the past and at the same me embrace the future. We wish to create a beachfront park that our community can embrace and where families will be able to create their own memories, similar to ones we con nue to hear about from days long ago. In addi on, to the exci ng news about Phil’s Beach, the District did complete a major capital project in September/ October. The parking lot at the Community Center was completely renovated and updated to meet ADA compliance. In closing, on behalf of our Board and Staff, I would like to wish you and your family a very happy and healthy holiday season and a bright start to the New Year. I hope to see you soon at one of our programs or events.

Prepping for Preschool (2½ -5 yrs)
Simply STEM for Preschoolers (3-5 yrs)
Every year we get lots of ques ons from parents asking us if their child is ready for preschool. We asked our preschool teachers to help us develop a list of skills that they think make a well-rounded preschooler and we are pu ng that list to use in this great educa onal class. Many mes parents think about the academic skills, but this list is more about the basics needed to be successful. With these skills in place, the academics will follow. We will focus a lot on fine motor skills involving pencil grip and wri ng, pain ng, scissors and gluing. We will also be working on bu ons, zippers, and puzzles. Some of our me each week will also be spent on following direc ons through carpet/story me, songs, dances and simple academic worksheets. Each class will have a short play me as well, to work on socializa on and friendship. This is a drop-off program.
Using simple lessons, crossing the curriculum, we will help your child develop their scien fic skills. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. This is a hot topic in the schools, and we want to bring it down to the preschool level. It is a hands-on, inven ve and crea ve way to teach children educa onal concepts while they are having fun and playing. Each week will have a different theme to guide the learning process. We will incorporate stories, songs, and cra s to expand the experience. There will be plenty of me for exploring, predic ng, building and solving. This is a dropoff program.

expands the physical capabili es of a person using a combina on of physics and architecture to strengthen one’s body and mind. provides an increase in physical strength, allowing one to move more efficiently through space. teaches the connec ons between physical strength and the physics of the body, allowing one to move more effec vely. Li Chiao-Ping developed the Extreme MovesTM Training Method for dancers/athletes to deconstruct tradi onal dance vocabulary and challenge no ons of what the body is capable of performing. This work demys fies some of the “strength” or “power” movements o en thought of as “masculine”. The Extreme MovesTM Training Method assists students to safely and successfully decipher and perform athle callydemanding moves. The Extreme MovesTM Training Method is an extended physical technique, expanding on the possibili es of the body as an expressive instrument.
