A decade ago, when I first met Tyler, we were both math teachers; he had just finished his first year at Wayland, and I had been teaching in St. Paul , MN. We met at a week-long training for teachers of BC Calculus. Even after just a few days of class together I could tell how smart he was and I could sense his passion for teaching . He had such an appreciation for mathematical beauty. He shared my enthusiasm for really cool theorems and proofs, and it was clear that hi s enthusiasm rubbed off on his students As we got to know each other over the next year, we visited each other's classrooms quite a few times. I had never heard of Wayland before then, but I grew to love it and its students (and, of course, Tyler). When I decided to pursue my masters in mathematics at the University of Washington , he accompanied me to Seattle, where we married . During that first year in Seattle, though , Mr. Esten offered Tyler an opportunity to return to Wayland, this time to chair the English department. As we embarked on our marital journey, we decided that Beaver Dam was indeed a perfect place for us to start our family. We returned to the Midwest and start our family we did! We found out I was pregnant with Catherine the day before we moved to Beaver Dam, and so it was Wayland that first welcomed each of our four children. Tyler proved to be as capable in the English classroom as he was as a math teacher. I have been so proud of him for all of the initiatives he has brought to the department including the Freshman Writing Seminar, the Wayland Red Book, and the Honors Colloquium. He has continually done all he could to make W ay land the best school it could be, always keeping in mind our hope for our own kids to be Wayland students one clay. It is probably hard to imagine what a house with four children under the age of 6 is like (although I'm sure we give you a glimpse of the challenge involved when we come to meals at the dining hall!) . I can tell you, though , that it is not for the faint-hearted. The term "Wayland Widow" is common among us Wayland spouses, referring to the frequent absence of our husbands/wives due to dorm duty/library duty/SESH/this or that cordial event. But, even with the Wayland Widow phenomenon and his current graduate work, which has taken him away one full weekend a month for the last 3 years, he always manages to put hi s family first. I will never know how he does what he does: teach a full load , chair a department, thrive in a very demanding graduate program , prepare a chapel talk every week, perform all of his Wayland duties, give me frequent and much-needed "off-time," and still spend most evenings catching up with me and the day's happenings. Though there have been weeks when he has had more nights on than off, he has clone a great job of balancing his duties at Wayland with his time at home, and I am so grateful to him for making it possible for us to enjoy all of the benefits of raising children at Wayland without having to deal with the drawbacks. Thanks, Tyler, for being such a great husband and father and thanks for all that you do!
-Mrs. Cassie Graham

Dear Mom , I suppose I'm typical : not until I have a child of my own will I ever actually understand all the sacrifices you made and all the challenges you confronted in rais ing my siblings and me . There's so much to thank you for. But here I focus on what is surely your most precious gift to each of your eight children: through example and through words you taught us those rules of living that make us fit to live in a free society. I know that you never consciously thought of your goal in quite those terms. You just straightforwardly taught us right from wrong, good from bad , decent from indecent. But it's in learning these vital distinctions-in having them etched into one's very being-that a child grows into a respectable, responsible, productive, and decent adult. If it was not for you, I do not know where I would be today Love you!!!=)
My years here at Wayland have been very good, I remember coming in as a sophomore and not knowing many people. I got used to the environment very quickl y because of my fri ends. I have made many friends at Wayland Academy, I have had great moments, funn y moments, sad moments, etc. I want to thank my friends for all they have done for me; I also want to thank my mentor Mr. Osvald. I remember all the good times we had in our mentor outings, and I want to thank him fo r that. I also want to thank my grand pa A. K.A Mr. Hill; Mr. Hill has helped me become stronger and want to thank him fo r making sure I didn 't slack off--even though I did most of the time. I want to thank all my coaches and teachers for teaching me and making sure I had a good time at Wayland . An important person I also want to thank is my older brother Abdi, he made sure he took care of me even though I am only a year younger than he is. Abdi has stood by my side and helped me in every way possible. I respect you for what yo u have done for me and hope yo u do well in fu ture. I also want to thank my other big brother GT for making my life great and joyful. I have know n you for 9 years and have gone to school with you since third grade; this is our last year together, and we had the best time that anyone could have had. I remember going to other states with you and even Disney World; we had good times and will always remember that. I wo uld like to thank my friends that made Way land really fun , Gio Di az, William " Biggie" All en, John "6' 11 " Moran, Ashanti, Luke Bacci, Joshua Ward , Jordan Roberts, Randall "Wade", Baba "Black Sheep", Davis Blackwell , Zach Silver, Loui s "Pirate" Jacoby, Maltee "da Germanator", and Kirstin "da Gerbil". Not all these guys are seniors but have made my years at Way land great--thank you guys. I wo uld now li ke to thank my senior friends, Rickey da classiest bum, John "all day" Heeter, John Santucci, Billa!, my African bro thers Arnold and Cedric, the funniest guy I have ever met Ju stin Poppa*##@#, Si Wan, Seung Hyun , Chung Bok, Mark, Wiley Yao, Ni kos, Nick Schubert, Matt, Jake, Paul, Austin Scholz, Aaron "Peterson" Brown , Lardy, and Jack. Now I would like to thank my suitemates Haitham and Shane; you guys have made my year at Ell a Dye a blast. I didn ' t forge t about my roommate Paul Ou m, a.k.a. Paugly. Oh yea Randy Yang, Jaso n Kim , Jorin , Lucas, Caleb and John Pryme. If I fo rgot anyone pl ease fo rgive me and know that I love yo u too. Wayland Academy: I wi ll never forget and always remember DIPSET!!!

First of all, I'd like to thank my parents. Mom and Dad. You guys are the best, and if it weren't for you I wouldn't be here right now. Thank you for letting me come to this great school and having the time of my life. Next Mr. Oswald. Thanks so much for putting up with me over the last four years. While my grades weren't always the best and I acted stupid sometimes, you were always there to help me out. I will always credit you with making me work hard in everything, may it be basketball or life. To Tooch, Rick, Kory (wherever you are) and the new guy (Davis). Without you guys these past few years, I don't think I could've made it. Even though we weren't really the crew the first 2 years and Kory decided to be stupid and not come back, without you I probably wouldn't have walked across the stage. Thanks, and if we don't see each other, well that's not going to happen so it doesn't matter. Mark. Dude this year was great. .. from the brewin, to the licking of chairs ... I won't forget any of it. Thanks for being my roommate, dude. And to everyone else that has helped me out along the way (Shane, Moe-Dipset, Scholz, etc.) ... thanks a lot and I'll never forget any of you. Mom & Dad : Thank you for guiding me through my years at Wayland . You're the best. Tricia: You helped me so much in my life , I can't thank you enough , you are the best sister ever! Melissa: Thank you for helping me experience my first 3 years in America, you don't know how much you mean to me. My mentor and mentees : Thanks for adopting me for two years . It has been really fun . HAL: I rub you and , and I rub you forever.
My name is Joe Liverseed, and it's a pleasure to be here. Let me first start out by talking a little bit about myself. I am a radical, left-wing, Bourgeoise hating, Nirvana loving, Alaska going, tree hugging, mayor running watchamacallit. Yet for as conventional and straight-laced as I may seem, this surely doesn't define me. To tell you the truth , I am a simple man defined by my one true desire--to find that highly illusive thing called happiness. You see my 'friends' , I have spent far too long in this life of mine not being happy ... doing stuff I don't really want to do just to fulfill some requirement or make a good impression . Well screw that! Such days are gone and an era of selfishness and personal enjoyment shall reign supreme . No longer will I be forced to 'do the work' at the expense of my happiness. If I want to sit around the house all day eating luke-warm hot dogs and playing Call of Duty against some of the stiffest competition in the world--if that's what makes me happy and brings me pleasure--then that's what I will well do. As the Nirvana frontman and rockstar supernova Kurt Cobain once said, "I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not." So good luck to you all as you begin your search for happiness and, when in doubt, try the ol' Bob Esten and "do the work!"

Dear Mom and Dad, I dedicate my senior page to you. After all you have done for me and with me these last few years, it is only right that I do so. I can never fully express my gratitude for the sacrifices that you made for me, nor can I ever truly thank you for the doors in my life that you have opened. Wayland has been an experience, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to go. These last four years have had their moments (a couple of rough spots here and there), but there also have been some really great times as well, ones that I will never forget. Most importantly, my time at Wayland has shaped me into the person I am today (take that as you will) , and I am sure will also be a prominent factor in the person I will one day become. Again , thank you both for the opportunity. Dad you really are the standard for the phrase "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger." You have always been there for me but always in your own unique way. You are the reason I always tried my best (and you made sure I always did) and through you I always did my best work; almost everything I know I learned from you (the rest , the important stuff, I learned from mom). All joking aside, though, I really do have you to thank for all my accomplishments; you taught me how to win ; you taught me how to not ever to lose. For this I can never thank you enough. Sun Tzu himself might be proud. "Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can?" Mom this is just another example that never in life is anything ever fair; you are by far the best person in our family: always caring, always kind , always giving up the most for your family. So how is it possible, fair, just, that this terrible accident happens to you? But, this is also yet another reminder that there is a God ,for mom I thank God every day for letting me be with my mom again; we can only thank him for saving you . I love you so much and hope you recover as quickly and as painlessly as possible; the entire family will do all that we can so that maybe you can come to my graduation . I know it would mean so much to you and the world to me. I will just take this one last opportunity to thank you both , mom and dad, for all that you did and for putting up will me during my high school years. It is a chapter of my life, like so many others, that I am glad that you were in. Love, Your Son, Joshua

I'd like to thank my mom and dad for everything they have done for me. Little do they know they've always been there for me. Although they are thousands of miles away they do everything they can to help me succeed. My brothers are also a big part of my accomplishments. They keep me going and encourage me to keep going . My family helped me through a lot my three years at Wayland. A second family to me was the Schubert's. They have done everything to make me feel at home. The Schubert's treated me like their own son, and they helped me through a lot. Now for my time at Wayland, I've gained so many different types of friends at this school. I will never forget the times I had at Wayland. I have so many different memories that we re so great at this school. I will always remember GT, Nikos, Shane, Aaron, Lardy, Justin , Nick, Moran, Moe, Abdi, Brie, Stephi, Hannah , Jane and Kirstin . And finally I would like to thank one last person , Kourt: thank you for everything you 've done for me. You've made my time at Wayland amazing . I appreciate everyth ing you 've done for me, and for who you 've made me. I'll always remember you ... Forever and Ever and Always ...

These four years at Wayland have been the most entertaining years of my life. I started off freshman year with Mr. Cox, was taught by a man with the name of Glowacki my sophomore year, was introduced to the infamous Mr. Lauff my junior year, and finished off my senior year in a Latin class with Dr. Lake and a bunch of annoying freshmen. Wayland has been a great experience. I want to thank all of my family members for supporting me by showing up to the plays I have been in, all of my friends, and my mentor Mr. Dore. Mr. Dare's mentor group is the best ever! Best of luck to everyone in life. P .S. I would like to thank Haitham for his endless supply of camel jokes in calculus and Mr. Lauff for his uncanny ability to make anything a joke. P.P.S. I'm sorry I didn't get to name everyone who I wanted to thank, but I want you all to know you influenced my life. Thanks.
These last four years of my life have been the greatest years ever. The memories I have made are unforgettable. So many people have contributed to my Wayland experience and also made me the person I am today. To my parents: Thank you for all you have done for me throughout my life because, although I don't show it most of the time, it really means a lot to me. To my brother: We've had our fights, but we also had plenty of fun together growing up. You're my favorite brother! To all my friends at Wayland: You guys are the best, and there is still more to come. To Lara: Thank you for being the most important girl in my life and for all the times we've had together. I love you. To Coach Hill: Thank you for truly making me a better person and for looking out for me. Senior Quote: Leave nothing!

After finally reaching the of my senior year, I would like to thank so many people that helped me through everything. Mom- Without you I never would have been able to finish high school. You have done everything possible and then some for me. I cannot say thank you enough times for everything. Mr. Mientus- Thank you for being such an awesome mentor. Also 4th Floor love! Curly- Gatta say thanks to you man. You helped me every single night with physics. You rock dude. Megan- Thanks for representing the Dakotas with me. South Dakota is still better though. Broommates- Best roommates ever. I really miss that seven man room. Others- Sorry for not saying your name, but I still do appreciate everything you guys have done. I would not be the same person without you guys and gals.
L1ke Bluff, 1L It's hard to put in to words; the experience that defined my personhood. My transition out of adolescence. These last four years of my youthful charge have been incredible, and it's all meant so much ... Thanks: Mr. Nicholson- You spread the stoke of life on a day-to-day basis. You introduced me to the life of passion. Together we had countless discussions which built the foundation for my intellectual life, both inside of the classroom and out. There's one thing I know for certain, and that is that I know nothing at all. Thank you. Mr. Dore- You've been my mentor and teacher, but, most importantly, a good friend. I'll miss you man. Thank you. Mr. Borrud- My fondness for the German language and culture is something which I owe entirely to you. Keep the program alive, because it changed my life. Thank you. Class of 2010- We've become a family. I love you all and I have a feeling most of us will stay in touch for a long time to come. Hanping, Fujian, Chim I will miss everything at Wayland.
Whenever I tell anyone that I go to boarding school, they ask what I did. I say I did nothing wrong, it's what I didn't do with my life, that's why I'm here. I'd like to thank all my friends and family for helping me obtain the best education and the best experience possible.

At birth Wiley Yap crip walked out of his own mother and proceeded to start studying for the SAT. After spending a month or so in the heart of Africa looking for the elusive Hobogob lin Wiley received the news tl1at he was to attend Wayland Academy . Unhappy with this news, Wiley grew into a fit of rage and ended up clestroying Atlantis . Wiley's parents made a ritual (and frequent) sacrificial offering of basketball shoes to appease Wiley's rage, and it worked. Wiley went to Wayland Academy where he met his arch nemesis, FLANAGAN! The battle could only be described as epic. In the end Flanagan retreated to McDonalcls and then ended up getting kicked out making room for the great thing to ever happen to Wiley Yao, Mark Mesrobian. Through Mark' s intense pillow talks with Wiley, Mark was able to get Wiley to chill 路 Being the coolest room mate ever Mark got Wiley to show the world his real ultimate power, hi s beats. everyone was all like "OH DAAAAMN! that is sick!" Then Wiley crip walks their face off as he heacls to tvling' s as the sunsets and the earth explodes, THE END
Mom and Dad: Thanks for everything yo u have done for me. I can ' t imagi ne where I would be if you hadn't send me to Wayland. Mr. McDonnell : thanks for being the best mentor and making the MANtee group the best it could be. Film class is the best class ever. To the underclassmen, enjoy yourself. These are the good old days you 're goi ng to miss in the years ahead. '' Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so love the peop le who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don't, and be li eve that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it c hanges your life, let it. Nobody sa id that it'd be e asy , they just promi sed it would be worth it." (Bob Marley)
