Full of &pression! M usic, clothes and opinions, they all make up our personalities, but they are also the ways in which we express ourselves. Whether we were hanging out, flying high, or just taking it day by day, we expressed ourselves to the outer limits. Through our expressions we made it clear that we were not the same old thing. We were a new generation with new ideas and a fresh, new outlook on life. We're always told to be leaders, not followers. At Wayland Academy, even though we follow 136 years of previous classes, we have formed our own spirit, abilities and opinions, which distinguished our expression from all others who passed before us. The way in which we express ourselves is what sets us apart from others. Our expressions make us individuals and being unique is invaluable! •

pirit Week was a triumph for the Junior class! They won Spirit Week closely followed by the Seniors, Freshmen and in lowly fourth place, the Sophomores! There were many activities taking place during the week: Monday was Class Colour Day, Tuesday was Clash Day, Wednesday was Jeans Day (profits to PAVE), Thursday a TV crew was filming a documentary on Wayland and Friday was Red & White Day. There was a Pep Rally held on Friday night (parents attended as well because Parent's Weekend was that weekend). The Freshmen girls won the Tug-ofWar (we don't know howl), the Freshmen also won the Mural contest (what is thisll). The Juniors won the Rock painting. The week was fun for everybody and provided a break in the monotonous daily routine!•

The Soccer team struggled with "team work", and high frustrations at the beginning of the season. But they played hard. Unfortunately they were not able to win many games, but they could play as a team very well by the end of the season. Their overall record was 6-9. Masahiko Miyamoto from Japan, received All Conference in 1990 and 1991, Sean McGrew was also named All-Conference. Eric Wagenknecht, Enrique Arguello were given Honorable Mentions. Masahiko Miyamoto was Captain, and received MVP for the Wayland soccer team. "Over the last 3 years the Wayland Soccer team has had a lot of ups and downs. This year the team had struggled with team work the first couple games, but we played hard and worked together. I still remember when we beat Kettle Moraine Lutheran 1-0, also we played very well against University School. At the end of the season we played as a team, and I'm sure we had a lot of fun! This wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for Coaches, Mr. Cobb & Mr. Veling's hard work. Good luck in the future." Masahiko Miyamoto "After a slow start the team became one of the best teams I played on at Wayland. And we realized how we played, pulled us together as a group." Eric Wagenknecht Enrique Arguello saves the ball from a shot. Eric Wagenknecht controls and passes to his team mate. 'Hold up the game a moment, business is being taken care of.' Masahiko Miyamoto juggles the ball, while Joon Kim and Tommy Patram move in to help.

The girl's tennis team had a great season. They had a lot of fun and they beat most of their opponents. The varsity record was 7:l. Only one match against Beaver Dam High School was lost by the Big Red's varsity team. The }. V. record was 5:2. The Wayland team also won the annual Wayland Doubles Tournament. Since eight teams took part in the tournament, Wayland's victory was quite respectable. At Regionals they took fourth place. Unfortunately they didn't qualify for State; the team had faced some strong opponents. The two teams who took first and second place at the Regionals also finished first and second at State. Compared to other athletic teams the tennis team had a short, but successful season. GIRL'S BASKETBALL . . . . The 1991-92 Wayland Girl's Basketball team only won four games all season, but there was no shortage of excitement when the Lady Red took the floor. Four of the team's 10 losses were by 1 or 2 points. "We didn't win as many games as we'd have like, but we laid a strong foundation for the future. I loved my 91-92 squad. These girls worked so hard, so well together. They came to practice everyday hungry to improve and to learn the game of basketball. Even in the few games where we were blown out, this team fought and scrapped until the final buzzer. This year we started from scratch learning basic fundamentals and an offensive and defensive system. Next year we'll simply review and move forward." -Coach Toby Jones
There are challenges we face in everything we do. I am proud to say that our team has achieved our biggest goals. Foremost, we had fun. Secondly, we improved over 100%. Finally, we did it as a TEAM. I'd like to thank coach Jones and the team for never giving up. -Jennifer Buan "Buanimo!"

SWIM TEAM
The Wayland Academy Coed Swim Team enjoyed another highly successful season. Captains Michael Peters and Brennan Schwarz led them to a .500 duel record and they defeated a total of 33 teams in invitational action. Highlights this year included a second place throphy from the St. John's Invitational and finishing third out of 15 teams at the Milwaukee Metro Invitational. The team managed to set two more records this year. Michael Dragu broke the 18 year old record in the 50 Free Style with a time of :33:36. The 200 Free Style Relay team of Michael Peters, John Triller, Josh Dalley, and Michael Dragu broke last year's record several limes this season. Their best lime was 1:40:85. All in all it was an enjoyable season. We'll miss the graduating seniors, but with a strong core of freshmen and sophomore swimmers returning the team will be ready to make waves again next year. POMS.
• •
Considering the fact that over half of the squad has never been in poms before, I think we are doing a fantastic job. Everyone seems to be putting their heart and soul into all of the routines, and I think that in itself makes us a great pompon squad. Anne Cordero, the captain, has been wonderful to everyone. She is patient and willing to work with us individually if we don't understand parts of a routine. The entire squad has become very close, and I'm sure we've all made friendships that will last a long time. Many people don't think poms is a sport, but it is! We practice everyday and work really hard so we can put smiles on the audience's faces during our performance. Poms for me has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. -Heather Hanson

THE 1992 YEARBOOK IS
DEDICATED TO JONH VELING.
For ten years John Veling has been a vital part of the Wayland community. In 1982, he was the assistant coach for the Varsity Boy's Soccer Team. He has also been the Varsity Girl's Soccer Team coach, since it was first established in 1987. In addition to being a part of Wayland Athletics, John has also been a dormatory supervisor for Glen Dye and Wayland Hall. We would like to thank John for his many years of dedication to the Wayland community.
There are some people that can't be thanked enough. John Veling is one of those people. He is a friend, mentor, coach, and teacher. He is always around when you need him. When it seems as though nothing is going your way, John is always the guy that you can count on to be a friend. When studies are getting you down, John is the guy that kicks you into gear. When soccer practice seems like it's never going to end, Iohn throws you on the ground to let you know things could be worse. And if everything in the world is perfect Iohn just makes it better. For his unaltering friendship, he asks for nothing in return. This is the sign of a truly wonderful person. He is modest yet begs no pity. He works hard, yet asks for no special treatment. He simply gives all he's got. The greatest soccer coach, dorm supervisor, and friend in the world is Iohn Veling. Words cannot do him justice. People like John transcend the triviality of words. Thank you, John - for everything! We appreciate all you've done. Eric Wagenknecht

We had many beginners who learned the job fast and a few experienced who helped out a lot! To these people I give my gratitude, with out you this book would have never been published. We had some close deadlines and some late nights but, we are finished and I am thankful. I would especially like to thank Mrs. Urbanek for all of her time and needed help, Thank You! I would also like to thank Mr. Palm for all of the pictures and information needed to put this book together. Last but not least, Ken Brauer, our representative, for all of his great advice!
