Fall Play
UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE was this year's fall play production.
It was directed by Catherine Brick and starred
Heather Paulus, Kay Williams, Frank Clark, Tizoc Olivo and several others.
Lessons & Carols Left circle: Mr. Kreish gives his lesson in English and in Hebrew. Center circle: Mrs. Davis directs the Festival Choir. Right circle: Mr. Seighman plays Bach on the pipe organ to start the service. Right: a packed house for the handbell choir. Below: the beautiful stained glass in the old chapel of Roundy Hall (used for the cover of this year's festival program) . Bottom : Thomas begins on the piano.
The thirty-third Festival of Lessons and Carols was an adaptation of a 19th-century service originating in England's Truro Cathedral. It was a celbration of the season and of peace through music and beautiful images. The music for this year's program was traditional, and came from many countries and times. Many of the pieces were contemporary arrangements of older music.
Snow Fest Lett circle : Dr. G coming in from the cold . Center circle : Carla crumples under Dillon's awesome weight. Right circle: the snow sirens of Wayland . Left: Hamming it up for the camera. Below: Mr. Roberts takes a swing at tray ball. Bottom : the mighty houses assemble.
With much dissapointment for most faculty and students, this year's Snow Festival was a wash out. A few events managed to take place in the light rain of the morning, such as "tray ball," ldiderod," "the sculpture contest," and "snow soccer." Yet, despite the rain and the cancellation of events, most students simply appreciated having the rest of the day off.
Snow Ball Left circle : Bridget gets directions to the shrimp cocktail. Center circle: Kosuke and Young Bin having the time of their lives .
R i ght circle :
VanTassel and
Monek shake it on the dance floor . Right : Frank's a tap-tap-tapping. Below : watch those hands Cano. Bottom: Kingston , Ted , Mabel and Molly looking absolutely fabulous .

Diane and I came to Wayland in the same year, so we're both "old-timers" here. Over the years, we've worked together on a lot of projects, but some of my most memorable ones have been in the theatre. We're both members of the Thespian Troupe and she's been the advisor for that group for about twenty years, I think. Not everyone here knows that Diane is quite a good carpenter and stage-crafter. We've helped to build some amazing sets over the years. She's a real "Renaissance Woman," interested in and knowledgeable in many areas of interest, from music, theatre, and art, from fireworks to politics, to sports and outdoor activities. But most of all, I appreciate Diane for her willingness to help anybody anytime.
As I think back on all of the things that I have done with Diane, I think of a trip that Mr. Clay, Diane and I took up to the north woods for a weekend of cross country skiing. With three vans loaded with students and gear, we set off after school on Friday and headed north. As we passed through Shawano, Wisconsin with Mr. Clay in the lead, my van following and Diane taking up the rear we came to a stop-and-go light. We approached, and the light turned yellow as Mr. Clay was going through. I followed and Diane continued behind me. Needless to say, there was not enough time for three vans to pass through one yellow light. As luck would have it, there was suddenly a red flashing light behind Diane's van. We stopped ahead to wait while Diane was being ticketed for going through a red light. Even with this little deterrent, everyone had a great time on the weekend. Diane's cost was defrayed as we all pitched in and helped with the cost of the ticket. Be it rock climbing trips, canoeing trips, skiing trips or whatever, Diane freely gave of her time so that all would have a great experience and Wayland life was made just a little nicer for the students that were involved. Her genuine concern for the welfare of others can be seen day in and day out. She is continually doing things for the betterment of all.
