Salvation Army of Cleveland County provides services to hundreds The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. By Jean Gordon Sgt. Joseph Rodgers and Sgt. Patti Rodgers came to the area six months ago for their first assignment with the Salvation Army. The couple, married 31 years, are the administrators of The Salvation Army of Cleveland and Rutherford Counties. In their duties they oversee all operations from the most recent Christmas Cheer Center/Angel Tree drive, the Red Kettle collections, to helping prepare the thrift stores for the after-holiday sales and helping with human services programs. Though new to the area, the couple lives in Shelby and Sgt. Joe has been connected with the Salvation Army since he was a young boy. When he was 10, he attended the Salvation Army in his hometown of Sumter, South Carolina and the following summer went to the Salvation Army’s Camp

The Cleveland County Thrift Store is located at 310 West Dixon Boulevard in Shelby. It is open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm. (Photos by Jean Gordon) Walter Johnson in Denton. He later worked at the camp during the summer of 1988. The couple met through a mutual friend in Sumter in June of 1991 and the rest is history. They fell in love, had four children and have 10 grandchildren.

Sgt. Joe said prior to his employment with Salvation Army he worked in pest control, in hospital security at Prisma Health Oconee in Oconee County and in October of 2021, he became the Corps Mission Associate for the Anderson, South Carolina Corps

of The Salvation Army. While the couple was in Oconee County, Sgt. Patti worked for seven years at Prisma in housekeeping and later worked as a house monitor at a Salvation Army shelter in Anderson. Their June 2023 appointment to Cleveland and Rutherford Salvation Army programs is their first appointment for the Salvation Army as Corp. Administrators. In their new roles Sgt. Joe is the Corps Administrator and Sgt. Patti is the Assistant Administrator. “But if I am not here, she can do all of this,” Sgt. Joe said. “The Salvation Army is my church and I have been a soldier member for 37 years,” Sgt. Joe said. He also said the Salvation Army must meet the spiritual needs of people as well as the human needs. “If you’re shivering you need a blanket and if you’re hungry you need food,” he said. But the spiri-

tual needs are of utmost importance, and should be met, he said. ‘My desire is to improve the spiritual, the physical needs and hopefully improve the emotional and mental needs as well,” Sgt. Joe said. Sgt. Patti says among the greatest needs for the Salvation Army is to help people with utility payments, rental assistance and to receive food. The Salvation Army works to meet all these needs and there is a social worker on staff to address these issues daily. The Cleveland County unit has a Salvation Army Church where Sgt. Joe preaches each Sunday at 11 a.m. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. The church is located at 305 N. Layafette Street in Shelby. The Shelby church facility is in need of renovation, he said. Sgt. Joe hopes one day to begin a Salvation Army church in Rutherford County, perhaps having worship services on Sunday afternoon. While in Anderson, the couple said they began to pray for direction as to where God wanted them to go. The couple was approached in June 2022 about the possibility of coming to the area as the retirements of Sgt. Les and Sgt. Mary Ashby were imminent. The couple was asked to come to Charlotte on April 13 for what they thought was an interview. Instead it was to offer them the jobs for Rutherford and Cleveland Salvation Army positions. “They offered us the commander’s job right then,” Sgt. Joe said. See SALVATION, Page 2

“We’ve had thrift store experiences and the church experiences, but have never been in charge of a unit,” said Sgt. Joe. Six months on the job, the couple feels good about their work, but admit they have a lot to learn. Coming off the Christmas season, Sgt. Joe said there are definitely things they will do different next year. “We learned how we shouldn’t have done some things,” Sgt. Joe said. “We learned.” In Rutherford County, the Christmas Cheer Center went well with the group of already organized volunteers. The Red Kettle drive was not quite as successful in Rutherford, but was better in

In 2024, Sgt. Joe hopes to have a five-member advisory council who are willing to serve with the Salvation Army to keep things moving forward. The couple came to the area from Anderson, South Carolina and the couple is happy here. “I love music and the outdoors and I like the slower pace of small towns,” Sgt. Joe said. “We could not have picked a better place,” he said. Sgt. Patti said she and her husband enjoy spending time with family. She enjoys crafts and he working with small trains.

Meanings behind the Easter lily

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God heath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9

704-484-1047

Easter symbols and traditions help make the holiday familiar and special. Eggs, hot cross buns and frilly church dresses help paint the picture, and so does a delicate and beautiful white flower. The Easter lily plant is native to both Taiwan and the Ryukyu Islands of Japan. The plant’s flowering season begins in April and ends in June. The plant produces pure white flowers on top of long stems. Easter lilies often adorn homes and church altars during this time of year. Tradition states that the Easter lily originated in the Garden of Eden from the teardrops of Eve that spread when she and Adam were cast out of the garden. These were believed to be tears of repentance. Historians and biblical scholars say that the lily has always been highly regarded in the Christian Church. Jesus even references the flower in Luke 12:27, stating “Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” Legend has

it that, after Jesus’ death and resurrection, lilies were found growing in the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus is said to have prayed before his crucifixion. They were believed to have sprung up from a drop of sweat from his brow when his head was bent in prayer. In Easter celebrations, the lily represents Christ’s Resurrection, and thusly new birth and new life. The delicate, white blooms can be viewed as pure, innocent and untainted by the world. The flower itself is used in various ways to tell the resurrection story. The bulb is buried in the ground as a representation of Christ’s tomb. The trumpet-shaped fragrant flowers also announce life after death, since bulbed flowers often regrow year after year, according to the religious resource All About Jesus. And the trumpet shape signifies the angel Gabriel’s trumpet call. It’s common for Easter lilies to decorate homes, churches, gardens, and more throughout the Easter season.

One yearly project Mr. Jones had during his teaching career was to assign his U.S. History students a project to interview a person alive during World War II and tell what they remembered about living in the United States during that moment. It was one of the most fulfilling projects of

the year. Students often commented on how interesting learning things from these older community members was. He got many comments from parents and grandparents on how wonderful it was to be asked to share their memories with the students. He will share stories and remembrances that were documented by his students, along with several artifacts from the period. Jones is married to Susan Barry Jones, and they live in Shelby. He is writing a book about his experiences teaching and coaching in Cleveland County. This meeting is open to the public, and refreshments will be served following the presentation. Anyone interested in Cleveland County Genealogy is invited to attend, including those following Greg Payseur’s Facebook page “Cleveland County, NC Genealogy and Local History.”

How to safely wipe out an old computer The idea of losing all personal data on a computer, phone or tablet may send a person into a panic. How many times has a drive failed or a computer crashed and a person has worried that all of their essential files were lost forever? But there are times when it could be essential to clear data from a hard drive. That includes before selling the device, discarding it or giving it away. NordVPN® says someone can access sensitive information many think is gone forever after deletion, but actually could still be stored in the hard drive. Short of removing the hard drive, which would necessitate a new owner putting in a new hard drive, devices will have to be wiped clean to ensure sensitive informa-

tion is not vulnerable. Devices can be wiped completely when they are changing hands. Consumer Reports says this is done by performing a “factory reset.” This technically wipes the drive clean of personal data. Before initiating a factory reset, it’s important to back up any important data onto the cloud or an external hard drive. Depending on the operating system, hard drive type and device, the instructions for wiping a hard drive will vary. It’s best to do a search online or ask a technology expert about the most expeditious way to restore factory settings. Even still, there are some

Without the key, files on the drive will look like gibberish if someone successfully recovers them. Encrypting an SSD computer is recommended even if one has no intention of selling or trading it later. Chromebooks usually use SSD but Google enables encryption by default. Chromebook users can skip this step when resetting. Again, encryption varies based on the OS, so it’s best to study the right way to do so. Files do not automatically erase just because they are thrown in the trash. Before selling or donating a device, a hard drive wipe or encryption is recommended.

SSDs are faster and more stable than older, mechanical hard drives and use flash memory. That means securely deleting files is very hard. This is why Wirecutter suggests encrypting the

My deer season is over. As I write, I have one more afternoon before I wrap it up for the year. Sure, there are still opportunities in the south, but right now I need my early mornings for work. I love that time of day. To say I’m an early riser would probably be an understatement for most people. I’m not bragging about it. I’m just saying while some GARY MILLER people can burn the midnight oil, and get their best work in at that time, I’m the one that has to beat the sunup by several hours. The hours before eight o’clock are monumental for me when it comes to what I get accomplished the rest of the day. And since I like to ride bikes, I’m sometimes able to take those early afternoons and take in a few miles before most people are getting off work. In some ways, hunting season steals that from me – or at least causes me to make difficult choices. If I hunt, my workday starts later, and that makes me feel rushed. But if I don’t hunt, I have nothing to write to you about. I wish I could make hunting a part of my work! Well, I actually do. You see, I’ve been doing this little article for over 20 years. It is a part of a larger ministry that I do that involves hunters and fishermen. When I hunt or fish, I am not only able to find truths for writing, but I’m able to identify with the ones that I write or speak to. If I quit doing those things, it wouldn’t take long before I would be out of touch with what’s going on. It wouldn’t be long before I would not be able to identify with the emotions and experiences those that I want to reach go through. I could say I know. I could read about it. I could even create some venue for hunters to live in, but I could not really identify with all the ups, downs, successes, failures, and near-misses outdoorsmen go through. To truly identify is not to only sympathize, but it is to empathize. And what is better than to imagine that you are walking in the shoes of someone else, is to actually lace up your boots in the same way and at the same time, as they do. It is to be them, to take on their life, and to live what they live. And when I have done that, I am able to go to them in their weakest and darkest hour, and not be concerned about saying the right words or acting a certain way. I can simply arrive, put a hand on a back, and say “I know.” Because they know you too have been where they are now. And now you know why God sent Jesus into the world.

A physically active lifestyle has been linked to a host of health benefits, including a reduced risk for various chronic diseases and a longer, healthier life. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services notes that moving more and sitting less benefits people regardless of their age, sex, race, ethnicity, or even current fitness levels. Whether they’re adapting to a more physically active lifestyle, already physically active or somewhere in between, individuals can benefit from recognizing the latest physical activity guidelines from the DHHS. ADULTS The DHHS notes that substantial health benefits can be gained when adults do between 150 and 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week or between 75 and 150 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity each week. The DHHS notes that aerobic activity, which can include walking, running, cycling, and hiking, among other activities, should be spread out over the course of the week. In addition to aerobic activity, the DHHS urges adults to do

muscle-strengthening activities of moderate or greater intensity on two or more days per week. OLDER ADULTS The DHHS recommends older adults adhere to the same guidelines as younger adults but take some additional steps as well. Older adults are urged to incorporate multicomponent physical activity that includes balance training into their fitness regimens. The DHHS also advises older adults to determine their level of effort for physical activity relative to their fitness level. It’s also recommended that older adults with chronic conditions discuss their ability to engage safely in regular physical activity with their physicians. Vigorous- and even moderate-intensity exercise may not be possible for some older adults with existing conditions. Routine physical activity can help adults and older adults live longer, healthier lives. Adults of all ages are urged to speak with their physicians about safe ways to become more physically active.

Heating assistance Gardner-Webb celebration to for qualified families honor Martin Luther King, Jr. By Loretta Cozart Cleveland County Department of Social Services is now taking applications from individuals who need financial assistance paying their heating bills. Each eligible household may receive up to a maximum of $600 per year for combined heating and cooling assistance. This is a federally funded program, and the total amount that Cleveland County received for heat-ing and cooling assistance this year was $591,111. Of this total funding, $196,000 was paid to 949 households for cooling assistance this past summer. That deduction leaves a remaining balance of $395,111 in the County’s emergency fund to pay for heating bills this winter. To be eligible to receive financial assistance with heating, a household must: • Be located in Cleveland County • Have at least one U.S. citizen or non-citizen who meets the eligibility criteria • Have income equal to

or less than 150 percent of the federal poverty limit For example: • For a household of one, an income of $18,210 or less • For a family of four, an income of $47,070 or less • Have a health-related issue that might be made worse without heat • Have a utility bill that shows how much is owed to the utility company • Be responsible for their heating cost Each household is individually evaluated, and if determined eligible for assistance, payments are made directly to the household’s utility company. Each household can receive a maximum of $600 yearly in heating and cooling financial assistance. For example, if a household received $200 for cooling assistance this summer, they would be eligible to receive up to $400 more for heating assis-tance this winter. This program provides a total payment to the utility company on behalf of the person who has applied and is determined to meet eligibility

requirements. However, many utility bills bundle elec-tricity or heating with water, sewage, and/ or trash. This program provides financial assistance for the portion of the bill that covers heating. This program aims to resolve the financial crisis caused by the heating bill. Suppose the total utility bill has fees associated with other utilities (trash, water, sewer). In that case, that portion of the bill must be paid before the applicant can receive financial assistance for heating, or else the household crisis will not be resolved. Last year, Cleveland County provided heating and cooling assistance to 2,168 applicants for a total of $467,000 For more information on the program and eligibility, visit www. ncdhhs.gov/assistance/ low-income-services/ crisis-intervention. You also can call Cleveland County’s Department of Social Services at (704) 487-0661, ext. 394.

Exercising when you have high blood pressure higher on the systolic (upper) number and 90 or higher on the diastolic (lower) number. Exercise can help lower high blood pressure and may provide an energy boost and relieve stress. For people adopting a more active lifestyle after a hypertension diagnosis, it is preferential to start off gradually. WebMD says in the event of hypertension, any activity that enables one to breathe harder and make the heart beat a little faster can be sufficient; it is not necessary to purchase a gym mem-

bership, but doing so may provide the motivation some need to commit to a workout regimen. Activities like swimming, jogging, brisk walking, biking, or doing rigorous yard work also can help lower blood pressure. The American Heart Association says for most people, 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity physical activity is

Tips to maintain your commitment to exercise

At one point or another, millions of adults across the globe have resolved to be more physically active. The benefits of routine exercise are too numerous to cite, but some of the more notable ones include a lower risk for chronic disease and illness, improved self-esteem and greater overall health. With so much to gain from routine exercise, it’s no wonder so many people aspire to be more physically active. But it’s easy to lose motivation when aspiring to exercise more. Each year, one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to exercise more. In fact, Statista conducted a survey regarding New Year’s resolutions for 2023 and found that exercising more was the most popular resolution. However, a 2021 study published in the International Journal of Environment Research and Public Health found that 64 percent of people abandon their New Year’s resolutions within a month of making them. Exercising more requires commitment, and there are some ways to make it a little easier to maintain that commitment over the long haul. • Break it up. The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health notes that people don’t need to exercise all at once to reap the rewards of physical activity. If time is tight, break up a workout over the course of your day. Some strengthtraining exercises in the morning can be followed up with a brisk walk or run over a lunch break. This approach makes it easier to fit a full workout into your daily routine. • Employ the buddy system. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that working out with a partner increases exercise motivation and encourages individuals to be more consistent with their exercise routine so they do not let their partners down. The authors behind a 2019 study published in the International Journal of Research in Exercise Physiology suggested the efficacy of the buddy system may require further study before researchers can definitively say it’s an effective motivation strategy for people who want to exercise more. But there’s no denying that many individuals feel that they are more likely to exercise with a friend than

recommended. This amount of exercise can be broken up any way a person desires, like 30 minutes per day, though the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services advises exercising over the course of several days each week. People should make time for stretching and muscle-strengthening as well. Regular physical activity

can lower blood pressure by anywhere from five to eight mm Hg. By keeping active, a person can prevent blood pressure from creeping up again. Exercise is a vital component of addressing hypertension. After receiving such a diagnosis, individuals can work with their physicians to devise a safe and effective fitness regimen.

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a serious medical condition and a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The National Library of Medicine National Center for Biotechnology Information offers that hypertension is responsible for the majority of cardiovascular mortality. Hypertension is associated with an inactive lifestyle, so becoming more active can prevent or even reverse a hypertension diagnosis. Hypertension is blood pressure that is 140 or

WHAT WE HAVE: they are if they go solo. • Schedule exercise time. Busy professionals book work meetings, family obligations and other daily tasks in their schedules, and the T.H. Chan School of Public Health recommends doing the same with exercise. Allotting time to exercise each day may decrease the likelihood that you’ll skip a workout, and once results start to manifest you may be more motivated to stay the course. • Identify what progress may look like. It’s easy to become discouraged if a commitment to routine exercise does not produce visible results. But just because your abs are not becoming chiseled a month into a workout routine or the scale is not reflecting significant weight loss does not mean your routine is not working. As the human body ages, it becomes more difficult to transform it. So a workout routine that left you looking lean and chiseled in your twenties may not produce the same body in your forties. But that does not mean the exercise isn’t working and ultimately helping you get healthier. Adults are urged to speak with their physicians and identify what progress with a workout routine might look like for someone their age. Progress may look different than it did years ago, but if the end result is a healthier you, then that should be all the motivation you need to keep going. It’s no secret that making a commitment to routine exercise can be difficult. But various strategies can increase the likelihood that individuals will stay the course as they seek to exercise more frequently.

Map of proposed sites for EV charging stations State officials have published an online map with the locations of the first batch of electric vehicle charging stations that will be funded through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, or NEVI. The N.C. Department of Transportation published the map to help people wishing to apply for the federal NEVI funds the state received to build and operate a network of electric vehicle charging stations. “The build-out of the electric vehicle charging stations will help our state advance clean transportation and be a great economic opportunity for businesses of all sizes,” said Paula Hemmer, NC-

DOT’s Statewide Initiative senior engineer. “The map gives businesses an opportunity to deter-mine where it would be economically feasible to build and operate EV charging stations. There are a lot of things to consider, like whether a site is easily accessible to all travelers and a site’s proximity to amenities like restaurants and hotels.” The map was released with a notice in late December so businesses would have sufficient time to plan if they are interested in applying for the NEVI funds to install and operate Phase 1 of the EV charging stations. Stems, roots and rhizomes: Learn your produce Fresh fruits and vegetables can be grown at home with relative ease. Home gardening also puts complete control into the hands of individuals who want to know how the foods they eat were grown and treated, providing a greater measure of control over their diets. A sense of pride also comes from having a thriving garden in the backyard. When gardening at home, gardeners may not know which parts of the plant are edible and which must be discarded. The following rundown can answer those questions and help people become better gardeners. Tubers Certain plants have underground storehouses of nutrients. Tubers are modified plant structures that are enlarged to store nutrients. These subterranean caches actually are the edible part of the plant. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava, jicama, yams, and Jerusalem artichokes are some examples of tubers. Taproots Taproots seem similar to tubers, but they are actually quite different. While tubers are a modified and engorged part of a stem system, taproots are the central root of a plant. Carrots, radishes, beets, and parsnips are popular examples of tap-

roots. Stems When munching on a stalk of celery or roasting freshly picked asparagus, people may not realize that it’s the stems of these plants that are being prepared and consumed. The stem enables water and minerals to travel up to the leaves. Rhubarb is another popular stem vegetable. Leaves Sometimes referred to as “greens,” the leaves of many plants can be quite tasty. However, some leaves are simply edible all on their own. Spinach, parsley, chicory, lettuces, kale, arugula, and even dandelion leaves are part of many different salads and recipes. Cabbage heads also are the leaves of the plant, but some people also define these tightly compacted leaves as shoots. Rhizomes and bulbs The Spruce defines rhizomes as modified stems that run under-

ground horizontally and strike new roots out of their nodes into the soil. Certain produce, including ginger, arrowroot, ginseng, and turmeric, is often mistaken as a root vegetable, but is actually a rhizome. Bulbs also are mistaken for roots, but are short stems enclosed by layers of fleshy leaves, says the food resource NutriNeat. Garlic, onion, fennel, leeks, and quamash are types of bulbs. Fruits and flowers Flowers turn into fruits in many cases, but some flowers are edible as well. Believe it or not, broccoli is a flower bud, as is artichoke and cauliflower. Fruits are more commonly recognized because they are fleshy foods that contain seeds. Tomatoes are fruits and not vegetables. Learning more about produce can help people diversify their gardens and make for tastier meals.

Acts Of Kindness

(Part 2 of “Moments of Opportunity” Series) My daughter Kalia and I embarked on a memorable outing that was filled with laughter and delicious food at an expensive DANYALE restaurant. Little did we know PATTERSON that our experience would be further enriched by a spontaneous act of kindness. When it was time to pay for lunch, our waiter informed us that an anonymous person had covered the bill. Despite not being able to thank the stranger in person, we prayed a blessing over the generous person who had brightened our day. I believe the Lord was pleased with that person’s benevolence, especially since they didn’t

want any recognition. Hebrews 13:16 (ESV) “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” EYES TO SEE Every day we have a chance to do good if we would just open up our eyes. Sometimes people just need a smile, a small act of kindness that will uplift their spirit. The Bible frequently emphasizes the need to care for vulnerable groups such as orphans, widows, and strangers. In James 1:27 (AMP), it states, “Pure and unblemished religion [as it is expressed in outward acts] in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit and look after the fatherless and the widows in their distress, and to keep oneself uncontaminated by the [secular] world.” FORGIVENESS Other moments of opportunity

More info: dean@newlifebiblecs.org or 704-923-2322. to be kind also include forgiveness. How many times throughout the day or week, do people offend us, get on our nerves or wound us? We can hold bitterness in our hearts or we can choose, with God’s help, to release the offense and forgive. In Colossians 3:13 (NLT), “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” Acts of kindness in this context involve forgiving others, seeking reconciliation, and promoting patience. PRAY THIS PRAYER: Father, thank you for provision, victory, rest, strength and so much more. Help me to have a heart like yours that has unconditional love and desires that all would know your love and surrender to your will. Open my eyes to moments of opportunities to demonstrate acts of kindness. Lord, I don’t want to hold a grudge against anyone. Help me to forgive

those who hurt me, I release the pain and offense to you, now! In Jesus’ name. Amen.” CONNECTING TO GOD: TODAY IS YOUR MOMENT! 2 Corinthians 6:2 (NLT) says, For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation. Right now, ask forgiveness for all your sins. Then, ask Jesus to come into your heart to be your Savior and Lord. Ask God to fill you with his Holy Spirit and to lead you to a church where you can grow and serve. Start reading your bible every day. I’ll be praying for you. Danyale Patterson would love to connect with you! wellness, can be disconcerting. Generally speaking, recovering from any injury can be a time-consuming process. For those over the age of 60, the process of recovering from injury can be especially lengthy. According to Restorative Strength, a fitness and personal training service for seniors, elderly adults generally heal from injuries slower than young people. Caring Senior Services says there are a few reasons why healing can be delayed: • Having diabetes is one of the most common reasons why seniors have delayed healing. The disease can negatively impact wound healing because elevated glucose levels narrow the blood vessels and harden the arteries. • The inflammatory response in seniors drastically slows down as people age. This response is the first phase when blood vessels expand to let white blood cells and nutrients reach wounds. When delayed, the wounds heal much more slowly.

physically active individuals regain mobility after an injury. Bones also may be more brittle, particularly if osteoporosis is present. Although it’s impossible to reverse the hands of time, there are steps seniors can take to recover from injuries more quickly, and potentially avoid them as well. • Slow and steady physical activity: Exercise, including routine strength-training activities, helps strengthen muscles and bones. According to Pioneer Trace Healthcare & Rehabilitation, when complete bed rest is not advised after an injury, getting up and moving even just a little each day can jump-start recovery. Regular activity prior to any injury also may make the body stronger and more flexible to help reduce the liklihood of injuries. • Maintain a positive mindset. The mind has a role to play in injury recovery. Minimizing stress levels through meditation, and engaging in positive thinking techniques, can make healing and thera-

pies more successful. Reducing stress can boost the immune system, which also will offer healing benefits. • Improve diet. The body needs certain vitamins and minerals to function properly. Eating a well-rounded, healthy diet can provide fuel that facilitates healing. • Work with a qualified professional. Seniors should not take on exercise or recovery efforts on their own. Exercising the right way and following prescribed guidelines can speed up recovery and potentially prevent future injuries. Recovery from injury could take longer for seniors. But with exercise, positive thinking and guidance from health professionals, there are ways to speed up the injury recovery process.
