Through the superb organisation of W. Bro. Iain Sharratt and his lady Julie, some 341 Brethren and their Ladies descended on the Copthome Hotel, Dudley on the 28th February to join the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, Deputy Provincial Grand Master, the Assistant Provincial Grand Masters and their Ladies to enjoy the Provincial Spring Ball 2009. Howard Wilson, Provincial Grand Charity Steward, made an excellent appeal on behalf of Appeal 2011 and Iain Sharratt and his team of Ladies sprung into action to demonstrate the magnificerfi affay of raffle prizes that were on show. The Provincial Grand Master and his Lady were called upon to conduct the draw for some 25 prizes and on completion gave a heartfelt speech of thanks for the magnificent sum of f,6,000 that had been raised from the evening. The formalities concluded with the Loyal Toast and the dancing began. At certain stages it was quite apparent that the dance floor was having difficulty in accommodating so many who wished to show off their dancing skills but it was a clear indication of the success of the evening. Given the quality and individual cost for the whole event it was apparent that everyone felt they had enjoyed an exceptionally good evening and hearty congratulations are due to all those who assisted in the organisation ofthe Ball and, in particular, to Iain and Julie Sharratt for their hard work. For those of you who attended and indeed for those who missed this splendid occasion, rumour has it that there may be another opportunity to attend such an event next year and we know that plans are well ahead for the culmination of the Appeal with a Grand Festival to be held at Worcester Rugby Football Club on Friday 10th June 2011.

For many years the Lodge of Peace and Goodwill No.6010 had been in the doldruffiS, however the wind of change seems to be blowing its way. It has six meetings a year including its Installation in April. This last year, 200819, it initiated four candidates and raised one brother to the sublime degree of a Master Mason. He lives with his wife Pauline in Solihull and has two married sons and five grandchildren. What with family matters and extending his Masonic work into Royal Arch and Knights Templar, he says he has little time for hobbies though he and Pauline have recently learned bridge which gets them out and about a bit together. W Bro Barrow is just over 6ft talL He is 60 and as a member of the mafiagement team of Jewson travels extensively all over the country, though he says he will be able to juggle things to fulfi1 his commitments as Provincial Junior Warden.
His job has also meant he and his wife Iris have lived in various parts of England. Now they are settled in Kinver, near Stourbridge, love the area, and would live nowhere else. Both their daughters have successful careers and the eldest, Gillian, is about to be ordained in Holy Orders.
He began his Masonic career in West Lancs and, once in the Midlands, joined the Lodge of Stability No. 564 in Stourbridge and had the privilege of being their WM during their 150th year in 1999. Like his stable mate, he has held high office in Worcestershire
for a number of years and is currently Deputy
DC.
As Provincral Wardens, George and Bob face the task of officiating at a minimum of 50 installations during their first yeff but both are undaunted by the prospect. "We sat down one day and sorted out the whole 'who does what' schedule," said Bob. "What with all those dinners we shall have to watch the starters and the puddings !"
The Worcestershire Province is getting more
footage from the two new acting Wardens when they receive their honours in June. Both George Barrow and Bob Clark are over 6ft tall!
W Bro Clark, in fact, is nearly 6ft 3in. Aged J0, he took early retirement in T994 from his job as an account manager for Birds Eye Walls and the following year became WM of Moseley Lodge No. 5224.
Ironically, after regular attendance at the Provincial AGM over the years, George will miss this year's because of a family wedding in ltaiy. "Instead I am to be invested by the PGM at a meeting of St John's Lodge in Kidderminster three days earher," he said.
The interview was conducted by Peter Ricketts, PPrGSuptWs and a member of the Lodge of Hope and ChariQ, Ir{o. 377, in the Province of Worcestershire.
He will be invested as Provin cral Senior Warden at the AGM on June 27 and, like all who attatn these exalted
