Congratulations also to the seven Lodges which have been added to the Honorific Honours Board, and also to Lodges which have moved up to a higher Honorific level, especially Brandwood Lodge for achieving Grand Patron stafus.
We continue to receive great support from the Royal Arch and members of other Orders and this is much appreciated. As encouraging as this is, we must still continue to push hard with new fundraising activities, the main one being the Grand Draw which was launched in September. Here is an opportunity to invite our relatives and friends to support a worthy cause whilst at the same time giving them a ch'ance to win a new Peugeot Car or valuable cash prize. If everyb-ody in the Province sells a minimum of 10 tiakets;ach it will make a huge differencJto ourAppeal total. You sLould have received your 10 tickets by now and when you need more they can be obtained from the Provincial Office! Remember - the net incoml generated by the number of Draw tickets that you sell will be credited back to your Lodge and will therefore count towards individual Lodge Honorific awards.
Don't forget the cardboard moneyboxes. We have been receiving amounts which vary between f,4 and f,100 per box and so please continue to save your trouser pockets and use the boxes for your loose changel Ifvour box has rnom out. replacemer,ts can be obtained from the Office - but you will liave to look elsewhere for some new pockets! Please remember also to utilise Gift Aid at every opporhlnity. To date we have claimed an incredible f90k from the taxman and we can continue to claim an additional 28.2% on all eligible donations until April 2011 . It really is too good to miss out on!
Arrangements for the Festival Dinner have now been finalised and it promises to be a great and memorable occasion. Attendance at the Dinner will be restricted to Masons who have qualified as Stewards of the Festival and purchased a Festival Jewel, and Partners will qualify by purchasing a Ladies Brooch. Why not get a group together from your Lodge to celebrate your collective contribution to the Appeal in style.
With 20 months still to go it is not too late to sign individual standing orders and Lodges have still got time to formulate action plans for fundraising activities. How much more than f,lm can we raise? If we can get to f 1.lm and add a further f 150k from GiftAid, our Provincial Grand Master could be handing over a cheque to the RMTGB for f 1.25m at the ICC on 3rd June 2011. On Saturday 2}thJune 2009 members of Kings
Heath Lodge marched into the Elan Valley in mid Wales intent on climbing Mount Gorllwyn in aid of the 2011 appeal. Nothing unusual here you may think, except that this particular mountain is 201 1 feet high and the climb is challenging. Armed only with regaha and a will to survive, and led by the
Worshipful Master Keith Bhzzard with the support of ten Brethren and one family member. Such was the spirit of all taking part that all terrain difficulties were quickly overcome. At the top of the mountain, Brethren then dorured regalia for this unique photograph at the Caim. The climbers then marched back down the mountain, completing the round trip in about 6 hours before repairing to the nearby Elan Hotel Brethren each donated the ideal sum of f20.1lp (plus GiftAid) to complete the climb with further such sums being pledged from nonparticipants and relatives.
A Bright Future Worcestershire Knights Templar had the satisfaction of seeing how their charity contributions are spent when John Talbot addressed them at one of their meetings at Rainbow Hill, Worcester. Mr Talbot is Hospitaller of the St John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem to which all KT funds go, and the Knights and invited Craft Masons listened spellbound as a story unfolded of supreme human endeavor and courage as hospital staff carry out delicate eye operations in a land where the turmoil seems to have no end. Year after year the doctors have brought relief to thousands of people in a population where blindness is 17 times more prevalent than in Europe. Because of difficulties in getting to Jerusalem, the hospital has built outreach clinics at Gaza and Hebron. "I was in Gaza last week," said Mr Talbot. "It has a very deprived and isolated population. The clinic is in poor condition in a poor building and a move is sorely needed." The relief work is aided by two mobile clinics, one of which was paid for by Worcestershire KT. The Provincial Prior, R.E.Kt Graham Perkins, said: "We decided to raise the money for a mobile clinic to mark our 150th anniversary in2007 . The vehicle cost f,25,000 but in fact we raised f30,000 and the extra f,5,000 was used to equip it." Mr Talbot emphasised the need for continuous funding to maintain services. "Kdghts Templar have been fantastic," he said. "You are the only people who year on year support us consistently." Thanking Mr Talbot, Eminent Preceptor E. Kt Colin Young said: "The work you are doing is an heroic venture. It's good to see where the money goes. You are doing God's work. A charity collection among the Knights and craft Masons present was strongly supported and Graham Perkins handed over a cheque for f 500 to Mr
Talbot. Triii rsp*rt

Of
Freemasonry today, VW. Bro Bob says: "We face challenges rn attracting more people into the Craft and, just as imp ortant, in retaining its members. As well as recruiting young people, we should not forget that there are a lot of older men who are still young in mind and maybe looking for a new interest.
"
He attributes his ability to cope with all the demands made on him to the unstinting support of his wife known to all and sundry as Steve.
"Steve is very involved in our work," he says. "She and her colleagues do so much behind the scenes, raising money for charity, and making sure social functions go smoothly." With all his many interests, it is easy to strike a common chord with our DPGM, but there's one subject best to avoid. Gardening is not on his agenda. It goes only as far as cutting the lawns. The rest, he says, he prefers to leave to nature! The interview was conducted by Peter Ricketts, PPrGSuptWs and a menlber of the Lodge of Hope and Charity, l{o. 377, in the Province o.f Worcestershire.

The mystery about Bob Vaughan is how he packs so much into fulfllling the role of Deputy Provincial Grand Master u'ould be all-consuming. But, while agreeing that it takes up over 90 per cent of his spare time, he is still able to sque eze tn such diverse interests as hot air ballooning and classic cars.
lais life. For most men,
It doesn't
stop there. At his home in Solihull there's an exciting looking sports car he assembled himself, a 1964 Rover 95 awaiting attention, a touring caravan awaiting a tow bar to take it somewhere, two bikes awaiting some pedal power, and some fishing rods awaiting their flrst cast. Oh, and then there's his plan to take up bee keeping next year! As you will gather, at 64 our DPGM has a lively mind and a great zest for life and has lost none of his enthusiasm for his work as a Chartered Qu anttty Surveyor where he specialises
in refurbishing old buildings and claims - in a professional capacity of course - to have visited nearly every pub in the
Province
!
And
as his mind flicks seemingly in several directions at once, he remains a relaxed friendly individual with a wannth that communicates itself to everybody who meets him.
Nowhere is this more evident than as he goes about the Province in an endless round of Masonic duties that sit comfortably on his shoulders.
Bob Vaughan was initiated into the Lodge of St George, No. 5691, by his father in 1aw, Philip Fitter, in November 197l. Now, 38 years later, he is No.2 tnthe Province, and a member of many degrees.
"I d.idn't set out to make such progreSS," he said, "but as I was promoted I felt I wanted to contribute more and more." He has embraced the policy of bringing more transparency
