PRESIDENT’S LETTER Whether you’re a parent, an athlete, a member of the media or a spirited spectator, I am pleased to welcome you to our Yellow Jacket community and look forward to cheering on the Jackets with you! As a member of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC), Waynesburg University offers 18 NCAA Division III varsity sports for our hundreds of student-athletes. While the reasons for participation in these sports are many, all of our athletic programs are aimed at helping our student-athletes grow spiritually, intellectually and athletically during their collegiate experience. Last spring, with 58 Waynesburg University student-athletes named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll, Waynesburg University had the highest number of honorees for all PAC members for the fourth consecutive semester. This impressive achievement illustrates the caliber of student-athletes at Waynesburg. Our goal is to provide our student-athletes with the best possible education and experiences that will prepare them to lead lives of purpose. We actively recruit student-athletes with high academic standards who will pursue excellence in the classroom and community while competing at the highest level in their chosen sport. On behalf of Waynesburg University students, faculty and staff, I would like to thank you for your interest in our athletic programs. I hope that you enjoy another great year of athletic competition at Waynesburg University!
Douglas G. Lee President

HEAD COACH
Mark Christner is gearing up for his fourth year on the bench of the Waynesburg University men’s basketball team. After inheriting the program in 2010, Christner has seen his squad take noticeably positive steps in each of his first three seasons. Last year, the Yellow Jackets went 10-17 overall and 4-12 in PAC play. Both win totals are the team’s highest since the 2006-07 campaign. Arguably the biggest victory of the season came on Saturday, Jan. 19, when the Jackets beat traditional PAC powerhouse Bethany 67-64. That triumph snapped a 22game losing streak to the Bison. On the individual side of things, then-sophomore forward Jason Propst was honored as a second-team All-PAC pick. Propst’s selection marked the first time since the 200708 season that a Waynesburg hoopster was lauded as a first or second-team all-conference honoree.
The biggest highlight of the 2011-12 season was very satisfying 69-57 win over Washington & Jefferson. With the win, Waynesburg snapped an 18-game PAC losing streak, and beat the Presidents for the first time since the 2004-05 season, a span of 14 games. The victory also ended a four-game losing streak, overall, and the 12-point margin of victory was the widest for the Yellow Jackets 32
in a conference contest since beating Thiel 78-61 during the 2006-07 campaign.
The 2012 postseason featured another big win for the Jackets, which came in the form of a 63-57 victory over Westminster in the preliminary round of the PAC Tournament. Christner enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in 2010-11 that saw the Yellow Jackets take steps in the right direction.During that season, the Jackets tripled their win output (two to six) and their two PAC wins were two more than the previous season. Waynesburg’s biggest highlight of the year came in the final regular season game, which saw the Yellow Jackets upset a then 17-7 Geneva team. Christner came to Waynesburg from a very successful Calvin College (Mich.) program. During his eight years (2002-2010) as an assistant men’s coach and head men’s junior varsity coach, Christner helped lead the Knights to four berths in the NCAA Division III national tournament. During his time on the bench, Calvin posted an impressive 15873 record and won three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular season titles. Over that same stretch, the Knights won three MIAA tournament titles and advanced all the way to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2005. Prior to working with the men’s team, Christner broke in as a coach at Calvin with the women’s basketball team from 1999 to 2002. In 2000, the Calvin women made it all the way to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16.
