STYLE SECRET TASTE THE MEDITERRANEAN DELICIOUS BAKED GROUPER 2 tbsp. olive oil 1 onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic 1 tsp. oregano Salt & pepper
2 tomatoes, diced ½ c. black olives 4 grouper fillets ¼ c. feta cheese ¼ c. minced parsley
Heat oven to 425 degrees. Spray 13" x 19" baking dish with nonstick spray. Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, minced garlic and oregano and sauté for 2 minutes. Add tomatoes and black olives and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Place grouper in prepared baking dish. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Spoon tomato mixture over fish. Bake 10 minutes or until fish flakes easily with a fork. Remove from oven and sprinkle with feta and parsley. Enjoy!

B E AU T I F U L MEMORIES We spent our honeymoon on Santorini, surrounded by whitewashed buildings with blue roofs and shutters. HOME IS W H E R E YO U R HEART IS Every Sunday we would have a family gathering. All the cousins, aunts and uncles would descend on my grandparents’ house for brunch. When it was nice out, we would eat outside on the veranda under the giant tulip tree. It was a grand affair, with lots of laughter that would last for several hours and was always capped off with the adults sitting around having coffee. I can still remember the smell and look of the sandy-blonde hazelnut coffee that my mother would let me taste. That coffee has always symbolized family to me, and it comes back to me every morning as I sit in my creamy hazelnut-colored kitchen and I smell the coffee brewing. Every day I would take my grandmother's bike with it’s cashmere colored tires for a ride down this small dusty golden gravel road through a breathtaking sea of shimmering purple. I felt like the captain of a ship sailing over an ocean of spectacular lavender. I would always pick a few of the graceful flowering stalks to take back and we’d place them in water on top of grandma’s khaki colored kitchen cabinets. The whole house would have the most beautiful and exquisite smell. When I had a chance to remodel my kitchen, I wanted to capture that warmth and traditional feeling I got from sitting in that kitchen with my grandmother. My wonderful natural oatmeal colored cabinets always take me back to that heavenly time and those remarkable fields.

S TO R Y B O O K ENDINGS Ever since I read “The Beauty and the Beast” by Madame de Villeneuve in grade school, I’ve been in love with all things French. But more importantly I’ve been obsessed with turning things that people find ugly or boring into a Piece de Resistance! Something highly unusual, a show piece. My latest project was remodeling the living room in our new home. Yes I even gave this project a name “the Beast”, after the hideous fireplace that dominated the room. I surrounded it with beautiful Painted Harbor cabinets of neutral grey with pewter and gold accents and beautiful glass windows. I gave the beast a new mantel that matched my beautifully detailed cabinet crown molding which gave the room a refined, timeless look. The unique taupe glaze created a cozy atmosphere and emphasized the natural design of the wood, surrounding me in subtle sophistication. WE FELL I N LO V E WITH GREY I fell in love with Tommy when I was five years old. He was seven, and (I thought) so grown-up. He was always nice to me, always included me, and had an uncanny ability to make me laugh. We had our first kiss when I was 12. It was in the barn on his parent’s property, a place we would always go to play. That warm, medium-grey colored barn always seemed to me to hold secrets and magic, and I was right. With that magical first kiss I knew I was going to marry Tommy. Our home today reflects the things we grew up with—light, nature and the beautiful warm stone color of that barn. We got to run around these huge old blue grey painted battleships and everyone treated grandpa and his grey haired friends like they were rock stars. Finally as we were about to leave, grandpa took my brother and me for a walk, it was raining and the cool grey sky matched the color of those big ships. He told us about his time in the navy and his friends that never had a chance to grow old and grey like him. He spoke about duty, family and being a man. He’s been gone now for many years, but when I sit in my office at home and I look at those cabinet doors that match the color of those old battleships and the sky that day, I think of him and the impression that talk made on me and my life.

C ATC H ‘ N ’ R E L E A S E Nothing can top those summers I spent at the lake with my cousins. So many great adventures. One day, my grandfather taught my cousin and me how to make our own fishing poles. By the time we were ready to fish, the sun had already begun to set. Everything around us took on a natural, almost peachy glow that matched the fishing poles we had just spent hours making. My grandfather grabbed the first two hats he could find in the house and plunked them on our heads, and we ran to the dock. We spent the evening there, baiting our hooks and marveling at what we managed to catch. I tried to take up fishing when I got older, but really, nothing compares to sitting on the dock with a natural, handmade pole, your feet skimming the water, and a hat that’s way too big for your head.

LIFE IS A BEACH—A GOLDEN M A P L E - C O LO R E D S A N DY O N E Every year we take a week long vacation to the beach. All of my brothers and sisters bring their families and mom and dad get to have the whole family together again. It’s not a fancy resort that we go to, it’s rather rustic and dated, but it’s like family, it just feels right and there is no place we’d rather be. Of course the kids are all up at the crack of dawn and as the rye colored sun rises in the sky we pack the caravan and start our migration to the beach. The week flies by and we always look forward to next year when we will do it all again. As I prepare for my day before the kids wake up, I look at my bathroom and the rustic maple and rye cabinets and they remind me of those weeks at the beach and get me set for another beautiful day!

LIFE ABOVE THE RIM Growing up, I wanted to be a professional basketball player. My father would lift me up almost to the rim so that I could shoot my wonderfully worn, brown leather ball into the basket. I felt then like I could conquer the world. M R . F U Z Z PAW S It was hard for my little girl to make friends when the nearest house was ten miles away. Before she started school, Patty’s best friend was her bear, Mr. Fuzz Paws. She took him everywhere. They would spend all day on adventures, and his rich, comforting brown fur would inevitably get dirty along the way, so I would have to wash him once a week. Patty would sit making faces at him as he tumbled around in the washing machine. Sometimes from the window I could see the two of them deep in conversation. I’m not quite sure what a three-year-old has to be so serious about, but I’m glad she always had someone to talk to. The day she left for college, I walked into her room and saw Mr. Fuzz Paws sitting on her bed. “Just you and me now, huh?” I said to him, and I swear that bear smiled back at me.

It’s so unique—the combination of great music, amazing creole food and an artistic mix of the old world and hipster lifestyles. Every year we would head down to the Jazz Festival and watch our favorites, like Taj Mahal, perform, while peeling spicy crawfish and drinking brandy-colored deep-red hurricanes. There is a passion for life there that I haven’t found anywhere else in my travels. When designing my kitchen, I wanted to capture the spirit of that town, so I combined my rich, reddish-brown Shaker-style cabinets with contemporary art and bright colors. C ATC H I N G LIGHTNING BUGS AND MEMORIES Every summer, my folks would take us on vacation to Maine, to a lake cabin that my aunt Loretta owned. My sister and I each had a dip net that we use to catch everything from minnows to butterflies. In the evenings, as the sun would set and a deliciously deep brown would settle in the woods, the fireflies would come out. We would spend hours chasing them as they glowed against the cinnamon-colored backdrop, depositing them into a large jar with holes poked into the lid. When we were done, the jar lit up the back porch as our parents told stories into the night. THE QUIETEST PLACE ON EARTH I can remember the time I really experienced absolute silence. I had kayaked out to the middle of the lake as the sun was just starting to come up, and I was bathed in the cocoa warmth of a new day. The water was so still, the air so clean and there wasn’t a sound. Not a bird or a ripple—it was complete silence. I never felt so small and so large at the same time. As that dark brown sky dissolved into a golden orange, I remember wondering if I would ever experience this amazing peace and quiet again. Well three kids, a dog and a cat later, I can truthfully say the answer is no. But there are days when I wake up early and sit in my kitchen looking at those rich, truffle-colored cabinets as the sun is just starting to rise through the window and casts the faintest amber light across the room. That silence is close—not the same, but perfect in its own unique way.

I was walking the street with my mom and saw a gorgeous, rich orange and brown pleated skirt in a storefront window. Over the years I’ve seen, designed and worn hundreds of different colors and styles. But that gorgeous, spiced golden-brown color with just the slightest hint of orange will always be my favorite. I talked Jonathan into splurging for the day and we rented this amazing, dark-cinnamon convertible. It was the most wonderful day and the best car trip I’ve ever taken. I remember thinking that I felt like Cinderella with her prince and her pumpkin had been turned into this wonderful car. Now, when I am in my kitchen and preparing the evening meal, I look at my cinnamon-colored cherry cabinets and I’m transported back to that drive, the Pacific Ocean and that girl named Cinderella.

I love the look and feeling of claret-hued cherry so much that I added a deep-merlot colored credenza to our entryway. Everyone comments on what a lasting first impression our entrance area creates. Recently, a good friend brought me another sign to hang in my home. It reads, “Most days I juggle everything quite well, on other days there’s always merlot.” I don’t think she was talking about my credenza.

It was almost like the more I didn’t want to like Grits the more she forced her way into my heart. DARK AND ELEGANT I was nervous the first time I met his family. We were going to lunch at the University Club, and to say I felt out of place was an understatement. The minute we walked into the room though, I was immediately entranced by the setting. It was all elegant, lots of glass and dark, rich wood with hints of garnet that gave out an intense air of sophistication. Luckily for me, his parents were as down-to-earth as they come, and we had a wonderful time. His mother and I still have lunch there once a month, and while I still feel awed when I walk into that room, I’m no longer intimidated. Maybe that’s because that space served as my inspiration for our home—elegance and sophistication combined with our humble roots and love of nature. And everywhere you look you see that rich, full-bodied wood with it’s incredible depth and character.

OAK HONEY LIFE CAN BE MAGIC From the time he was an infant, I always told Jimmy that the oak tree in our yard was magical. When he was a toddler, he knew magic was real. But, I’ll never forget the first time he looked up at me and responded, “Daddy, that’s silly.” I wasn’t quite ready for that yet — that skepticism we get as we grow older. I told him once more the tree was magic, and he could make a wish to the tree. He hesitantly placed his little hand on the strong oak and I heard him whisper to it. The next day I got to see my son’s wide-eyed belief again as a tire swing had appeared overnight, just like magic. He’s in college now, and as I look around my kitchen at the beautiful golden and amber oak color that surrounds me, I’m often reminded that you’re never too old to believe in magic.

K AT H Y WA L K E R THIS KITCHEN’S A REAL CROWD PLEASER Kathy Walker, designer from Wood Wise Cabinetry, won the Fall 2018 “Showcase Your Space” award for kitchen design by taking a small, dark kitchen from the 70's and turning it into a bright and open contemporary space. Ms. Walker’s clients love to entertain, and we all know where parties always end up. They wanted a big modern kitchen with an island that could accommodate event-evenings. By removing walls, shifting space and adding light, Kathy designed an award winning kitchen (and island) her clients could love. Once she resolved those space, flow and light challenges, Kathy modernized the kitchen’s look using Waypoint® Living Spaces 410F cabinets in two contrasting paint finishes. For cabinets along the perimeter of the room, she chose Painted Linen, and for the island, Painted Stone. She used the Waypoint® Tapered Range Hood for an updated design statement that would complement the tile backsplash beneath it. Kathy’s clients raised their kitchen’s ease of use by installing several Waypoint organizational solutions including full-extension pots and pans drawers, a pull-out double trash receptacle with the recycling option, cutlery dividers and vertical tray dividers. But what they really appreciate is how their big island with its base molding and Yates legs almost looks and feels like furniture. Which is only appropriate for the room where the crowd congregates.

TOO BIG BECOMES JUST RIGHT. Scott Trainor of Cypress Design Co had a different kind of problem to solve. His clients had a bathroom so large it had an echo. There was wasted space, a vanity that wasn’t large enough for their needs and the color of the walls wasn’t working for them. In collaboration with J. M. Bryson Construction Management out of North Attleboro,

MA, Scott proceeded to deliver some award winning work. The walls were painted in an understated blue, and the vanity was designed with plenty of drawers and cabinets for toiletries finished in Waypoint® 410 Painted Stone. He took advantage of the room’s high ceilings by stacking cabinets and drawers configured for storage. Scott even included deep rollout trays and bins for hamper storage. His clients’ favorite part? They love the details of the Yates leg on the vanity and the decorative molding on the walls which lend a handsome refinement, pulling the whole room together.

LET THERE BE LIGHT! Christina Noel, winning designer from Moehl Millwork Inc., had a client who just purchased a home because of its great location, location, location. They figured that you can always improve the house, but where it sits is pretty much fixed. They started renovating on the first floor with the family room. The original décor was, well, dated. But the client loved the fact that it had a wall of storage. Christina removed the dark carpet, painted the walls a lighter color and tore all that old storage out. She resurfaced the brick fireplace and replaced those old cabinets with Waypoint® 410 Maple Espresso base cabinets. She achieved a more open, modern look with floating shelves, also in Maple Espresso, on the wall above the cabinets. That wall had been painted blue which contrasted beautifully with the rich Maple Espresso color. visual interest plus the owners got to keep the storage.

FRESH SQUEE ZED AND SURE TO PLE A SE 6 c. water 4 c. sugar 24 whole lemons, juiced And lots of ice! Heat 4 cups sugar with 6 cups of water in a medium saucepan until it’s dissolved to make a syrup. Set this in the fridge to cool. Pour the fresh-squeezed lemon juice into a large pitcher. Pour in ž of the syrup, then top off the pitcher with ice. Pour in water, stir it around, then give it a taste. Add more syrup if it needs sweetness or more water if it needs dilution. Serve immediately! Add 2 cups raspberries, blueberries, blackberries or sliced strawberries to the lemonade for different flavors. Or make hard lemonade by adding 2 cups light rum or tequila. (Adults only!)

Hair is weakest when thoroughly soaked and is therefore easier to cut. If there is no time for a shower, then rinse your face with warm water and keep it wet for a couple of minutes. Next, you’ll need a good-quality, nonfoaming shave cream and a shaving brush. Apply the shave cream using the brush in a circular motion. Use a quality razor with a fresh blade (seven shaves or fewer) and rinse the blade frequently. Shave in the direction of your beard and let the razor do the work. Now comes the good part. Rinse with cool water, apply a little witch hazel, pat dry and finish with a high-quality aftershave lotion.

In a medium bowl, combine the dry ingredients and stir well. In a small bowl, melt the coconut oil. Add 6–9 drops of food coloring and almond oil, stir well. Add coconut oil mixture to the dry ingredients using your hands to break it up. Pack mixture into molds and freeze 20 minutes. Warm with hands to remove from molds.

Cabinet joints are pressure-fitted, glued, stapled, double-doweled construction. Kiln-dried face frames made with 3/4-inch by 1 5/8-inch solid hardwood will not warp. Half-inch furniture board corner blocks contribute to the integrity of the cabinets. Waypoint® standard construction includes 1/2-inch-thick plywood sides with Waypoint® resilient finishing system exteriors. Tops, bottoms and floors are 1/2-inch-thick furniture board, finished with our natural wood grain resilient finishing system. All construction meets or exceeds the rigorous standards set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA). We have the KCMA seal to confirm it and a limited lifetime warranty to guarantee it.
With Waypoint® cabinetry, you can get augmented cabinet storage space with cabinet depths up to 24 inches in 1-inch increments for the perfect look and fit. PICKING YOUR PAINT COLOR Picking the right paint color for your living space can seem daunting. Here are some guidelines to help you pick the best color for your space and create the feeling you’re looking to achieve. FIND INSPIRATION. Don’t pick your color for the room first. You need to draw inspiration from the pieces that will be in that room, such as a piece of furniture, a rug or a favorite piece of artwork.
ADDING MORE COLOR. Once you have your basic paint picked out, you might decide the room is not colorful enough for you. An easy way to add more color is to play up monochromatic color schemes by adding an accent color that is a cooler or warmer version of the initial color. Using a color wheel will make this much easier. Another technique using a color wheel is picking a complementary color—colors that are across from each other create a very intense and vibrant feeling when used together.

DON’T OVER-SATURATE. Keep a balance with a neutral base palette and vibrant, colorful accents. Typically, you want to keep your paint mainly neutral and accent with colorful furniture and accessories, or maybe an accent wall. However, if you really want brightly colored walls, make sure the furniture and accessories in the room are neutral colors to balance it out.
USE TESTERS. Paint large swatches of different colors on a wall before making your final decision on color and sheen. Leave them for up to a week so you can experience them at different times of day and with different lighting.
