Your remodel should not reflect a fad, a movement or your neighbors’ attitudes. It should be all you. You make choices every day that are great clues to your personal style. The clothes you wear. The car you drive. The drink you order. The greeting card you buy. The screen saver on your computer. And a zillion other choices you make during the course of your day‑ to‑ day life.
PE R S O N A L S T Y L E I S A L L A B O U T T H E T H I N G S YO U LOV E To get a great head start on defining your style so that you can ultimately share it with your designer, it really helps to put together a collection of the things that you love. Include everything. Surf the web. Get shots of your favorite kinds of furniture, room settings, paintings and posters. Cut out pictures from magazines—and not just remodeling magazines, but People, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and anything else that defines a style you are drawn to, even if it’s not a shot of an interior. Have a look at artifacts from your travels. A rug, a statue, or even a snapshot of a garden, landscape or cityscape can help define your style and could be the spark that creates a living space that is uniquely you.

Inspired by the southern French countryside: Handmade tile, stone floors, open shelving and glass doors, and distressed woodwork equal sophisticated charm. Set a simple table. This is no place for fussiness. Matchy-matchy belongs elsewhere. This style calls for uncomplicated earthenware, simple linen serviettes and silver. A sprig of lavender at each plate adds nonchalant notes of enchantment. For another twist, arrange bunches of handpicked herbs and citrus over a table runner. Layers of damask and linen are always appropriate. Finally, add warmth with glowing votives tied with twine.

Curated and intentional, this modern style favors the beauty of simplicity and clean lines. Interest is created by repeated shapes, pops of color and metallic surfaces. Your table is grounded in dark brown with contrasts of white and a shot of red or turquoise. Hairpin candlesticks pay a fond homage to mid-century design. Flowers? REMODEL I N S P I R AT I O N LIVI NG I N S T Y L E H A S N E V E R B E E N MO R E AC H I E VA BL E Your way of life has evolved, and so should your living spaces. Work with a WaypointŽ designer to plan a living space that reflects who you are now. Light, natural colors achieve a feeling of sophistication, while classic lines and mitered, recessed door cuts contribute to a contemporary look. Add energy to any space with color or patterns—or perhaps some of the new colorfully elegant appliances. This style is a thoughtful balance of traditional and contemporary styles. Evolved Elegance calls for a sophisticated table setting with a hint of glamour. Elevate a classic mix of black, gold and ivory with stacked plates, patterned and geometric. Break with tradition by skipping the tablecloth; add antique goblets lest you stray too far. Slip a bit of greenery between the napkin and ring with a soft white bud, and the look is complete. The elegance of yesterday enchants today with textures and details.

REMODELING?
CHOOSE WAYPOINT ® AND
WORK WITH A PRO WITH A WAYPOINT® DESIGNER, YOU’LL GET EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAD IN MIND You’ve got a sense of style that is unique to you. You may even have a vision of your new kitchen or bath and the feeling you want to create. But even if you are a can-do person who can make anything happen, remodeling a living space yourself without experienced professional support can be disastrous financially; and worse, it can cause undue stress on you and your family. The following is a list of things to keep in mind as you embark on your remodel journey.
GET THE REMODEL YOU WANT WITHOUT ALL THE DRAMA Unfortunately, in many cases, when it comes to remodeling, “do it yourself” often means do it over. Remember when you tried to color your own hair with that $5 box of name-brand dye and then ended up spending $250 for color correction? Ouch! And you got off easy compared to a remodel debacle. Mistakes on a remodel can escalate into the thousands quickly. Like that outlet behind the dishwasher that was not anticipated and means pulling out the cabinets and getting the electrician back. Or that wall you were going to move until the county inspectors advised you that the wall was load-bearing—after you ordered your cabinets that now won’t fit. You’d do well to call on a Waypoint® designer, who is armed with the resources, products and knowledge you need to help you anticipate all the important details. And you’d be surprised to find out that hiring a designer is quite affordable, especially when you consider that one mid-project mistake can escalate costs beyond your budget.

From computers to cabinets, this family means business. Why did you select Waypoint to be your sole cabinet vendor? The Partner Team, job site delivery, 2020 and excellent marketing materials like the magazine make the company, as a whole, a good fit. We use the Style Quiz to get customers pointed in the right direction. Then, Waypoint makes it so easy for us to show customers a wide variety of options. Waypoint is the perfect fit for my business!
As the “B” in A&B Cabinets, Bo Hutchison was destined to play a role in his family’s business. And so it was. Eighteen years ago, with a newly minted degree in business and computer information systems, Bo purchased his father’s cabinet business. Armed with cutting-edge computer skills and a fresh perspective, his unbridled passion took the business to a whole new level. Tell us something that your customers would be surprised to know about you. My path to becoming a designer was paved by exploring hobbies, but none of them gave me the same satisfaction as design. I’ve tried everything, from playing guitar to woodworking and even kayaking, and I still enjoy designing the most. Fortunately, these activities allowed me to broaden my creative horizons—adding a fresh perspective to my designs.

What advice do you have for those considering a remodel? Trust a professional. I see so many people who get pigeonholed by the footprint of their kitchen, and it doesn’t have to be that way. When their kitchen was designed, it was used differently. Times change, and so should the space. Each customer is different, so I show four or five different design options so they can determine which is best for them.
For you, what’s the biggest compliment or measure of success? Happy customers who refer their friends are a compliment, but when customers refer their family members, you know they really trust us. I’ve done remodels for three different generations in one family—grandparents, parents and their kids. This company is built on long‑standing relationships. Family values and a passion for remodeling are the key ingredients in this family’s recipe for success.

Which design trends do you envision standing the test of time? We all know that 410 Painted Linen (Shaker) cabinets are king, but as far as trends go, I see a lot of people incorporating natural wood, with white cabinets, to add warmth. Going with a light, bright palette gives the design flexibility and longevity. You can always add pops of color for contrast—something special that can be changed later.
Designing kitchens is only natural.
For what reason do your clients select Waypoint cabinets? Waypoint offers a great price point and well-crafted cabinets that are built in the USA—that’s really important to our clients.

Concepts The Cabinet Shop Avon, IN www.conceptsthecabinetshop.com @conceptsthecabinetshop
Remodeling vision that’s nothing short of magic. I always order the Waypoint consideration basket, which includes the Waypoint magazine, and everyone loves the inspiration it provides! I can’t tell you how many times people call to thank me for sending it. After a project is finished, as a thank‑you, we send every customer a Waypoint celebration kit.
With a reputation as an artful designer, Lorraine Beggs’ ability to transform a homeowner’s vision into reality is truly nothing short of magic. But it hasn’t always been that way. When her brother opened Concepts The Cabinet Shop in 2003 and enlisted her help, Lorraine was testing hearing aids for a living. Eager to help, she embraced the challenge with the same passion with which she now designs. Self-taught, she admits design has become her life. When designing a new space, how do you begin the design process? I design exclusively for my clients, and everyone is different. The space influences my design. You have to get creative because a fair number of people have a vision, but many do not. In our initial meeting, we create a remodel wish list. For visual reference, we have a catalog of our remodel photos.
Kitchen shown in 410 Painted Linen
Has the role of the kitchen changed since you started designing? Oh, yes! I was just looking at remodel pictures from 10 years ago, and they look ancient! We’ve raised the bar for the kitchen, and the styles have really changed. Today’s kitchen is the heart of the home, so the style needs to reflect that level of comfort.
Which of the current trends do you envision standing the test of time? White and grey shaker cabinets are definitely here to stay. Adding lighter wood finishes and contrasting cabinets, like Maple Espresso, offers a nice contrast to light, painted cabinets. Islands give people a place to gather, dine and provide creative storage, so they aren’t going anywhere either. It comes as no surprise that Lorraine receives rave reviews from clients. Her transformative powers are extraordinary.

FRANK CANOVA
Diablo Valley Cabinetry San Ramon, CA www.diablovalleycabinetry.com @diablovalleycabinet
Engineering lasting style. How has the role of the kitchen changed since you’ve been in the business? It’s a whole new world. Traditional kitchens are gone. The kitchen has moved beyond a place for cooking and storage. The walls have come down, creating much more space, and it’s become the heart of the home. I have two girls, and the majority of our family time is spent in the kitchen. Whether it’s doing homework, baking cookies or entertaining friends, we all congregate in the kitchen!
In 2003, Frank Canova brought his technology and engineering expertise to the family business his father founded 21 years prior, and he’s never looked back. He’s even learned a little woodworking along the way. As the president of Diablo Valley Cabinetry, Frank’s greatest satisfaction comes from creating something real that families can enjoy for many years to come.
Kitchen shown in 660 Cherry Slate
Tell us something about yourself that your customers would be surprised to know. Surprisingly, my background has nothing to do with woodworking, cabinetry or construction. My wife’s father had a really nice woodshop, so I started doing woodworking with him. I inherited his tools, and I’ve just tinkered with them over the years. My woodworking experience has helped me understand what our customers want and the challenges they face. With this experience, my designs have moved well beyond paper. I have a new appreciation for the time involved in installation. My perspective really sets everyone up for success.
For you, what’s the biggest compliment or measure of success? When a remodeling project is over, I really enjoy hearing the homeowners gush. It’s incredibly rewarding to know they are satisfied. That’s the end product for me. The remodeling business demands that we connect with our customers in a very real way. I get a big charge out of knowing their family will gather there for the next 15-20 years, and I feel proud knowing the results are lasting. On top of that, I see our whole team is proud. It’s a great feeling!
What current design trends do you see standing the test of time? A simple look is a lasting look. Merging traditional and modern styles, I often use a 410 (Shaker) door to create a transitional look. It’s lasting because, as the years go by, it’s flexible. If you have a simple palette, it won’t look dated in five to 10 years. This allows the homeowner’s personal style to evolve. It’s more dynamic, and they’re not locked into a short-lived look that can only be changed by remodeling the whole kitchen. Frank’s aspirational goals will ensure his lasting career.
KRISTEN LISENBY
Complete Kitchen and Bath Lakeland, FL www.ckblakeland.com @completekandb
From “Trading Spaces” to Waypoint Living Spaces. Kristen Lisenby has always been interested in art, but her interest in interior design was sparked by watching the TV show “Trading Spaces.” She earned her bachelor’s degree in interior design from the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Appalachian State University, and she’s been doing residential design ever since.
Kitchen shown in 650 Painted Linen & Painted Stone
Tell us something about yourself that your clients might be surprised to learn. I designed a kitchen for the TV show “Kitchen Crashers: Worst Kitchen in America.” They were looking for a design to improve the “Ugliest Kitchen in America” and selected my design. The kitchen project was a huge endeavor because everything that would normally take a month to accomplish had to be done in three days! We worked really long hours, but it was an amazing experience, and the results were absolutely incredible.
Do you think the role of the kitchen has changed since you started designing? The kitchen has always been the heart of the home; that will never change. I believe designs should be classic and flexible so they stand the test of time. Many people are moving away from formal dining rooms, so I see a lot more seating in the kitchen. This encourages families to gather in the kitchen. And in today’s environment, kitchens all over America have turned into home offices. Whether it’s on TV or in real life, Kristen never fails to deliver transformational designs that her clients will enjoy for years to come.

JUSTIN FARRINGTON
Linden Kitchen & Bath Linden, MI www.lindenkitchenandbath.com @lindenkitchenandbath
What makes your firm unique? Linden Kitchen & Bath is a third‑generation, family‑owned company. Because we’re a locally owned, small-town business serving the community, personalized service is essential. Our showroom is specifically designed to educate and inspire the customer. During our initial consultation, I ask a lot of questions to generate ideas and excitement. I rely heavily on visual inspiration like Waypoint’s magazine and Pinterest to help me envision their dream space.
Justin Farrington was born to remodel. From an early age, Justin’s parents knew he was incredibly talented. As a fifth grader, they gave him his first drafting board and later his first remodeling job—the family kitchen! Here’s what Justin had to say about it. How did you get started in the design business? I’ve always loved art. In fifth grade, my parents bought me a drafting board, and I have been drawing homes ever since. In the early days, inspirational magazines influenced my creativity, but my parents made the biggest impact. In fact, one of my first remodel jobs was my parents’ kitchen. I’ve been designing for Linden Kitchen & Bath for seven years and designing for 20 years.
Kitchen shown in 750 Painted Linen
For what reason did you select Waypoint as a vendor? In 2000, I started working with American Woodmark Cabinetry (Waypoint’s parent brand), so I was extremely familiar with the quality of Waypoint cabinets. Seven years ago, when I joined Linden, there was a void in our product line, and Waypoint wasn’t one of our vendors. I knew our clients would appreciate the high-quality construction, ease of design and great pricing. I was right!
How has the kitchen changed since you started your design career? I’ve been designing since 2000, so the role of a kitchen has definitely changed. With the open concept design becoming popular early in my career, the kitchen has become the focal point of the home. This means designs really have to maximize the space. I use a lot of deep furniture drawers and internal cabinet organizers for storage. Because everyone gathers in the kitchen, the design makes a real statement about the homeowners’ style. These days, it’s no wonder Justin’s phone rings off the hook. This small-town designer has 20 years of experience under his belt and big ideas about designing dream spaces.
ANN STANFILL & TIFFANY MCLEAN
Kitchen Design Center Sacramento, CA www.kitchendesigncenters.net @kitchendesigncenters Tiffany: Ann asks really good, detailed questions. For example, are they big bakers? How many kids do they have? What role do the kids play in the kitchen with cooking, chores, etc.? Gathering detailed information up front plays a vital role in the final design.
Kitchen shown in 410 Painted Linen
Collaboration is key for this dynamic design duo. Self-taught, curious and wildly enthusiastic, Ann Stanfill does her best work under pressure. She can’t visit a home without rearranging it in her head to improve the functionality. But an interior designer she’s not. Enter partner Tiffany McLean. A classically trained interior designer and color expert, Tiffany McLean, of Broxen Homes, complements Ann perfectly. Together they share a passion for Waypoint cabinets and highly functional designs—mission accomplished. When designing a new space, how do you begin the process to help your clients articulate their visions? Ann: We always start with an on‑site visit. I ask a lot of tough questions about a customer’s likes and dislikes because I am all about the functionality of the space. I want to understand exactly how the customer plans to use his or her space so it’s utilized perfectly.
Other than the kitchen, how do you use Waypoint cabinets to improve other living spaces? Tiffany: I love using cabinets all over the home! I use them to build vanities, entertainment centers, mudrooms and exposed closets. Kitchens are our forte, but we can help design any room! Other than the kitchen, mudrooms are my favorite place to use cabinets because I get to explore so many different storage options. I design a ton of lockers, bench seats with drawers, banquettes—there’s so much functional storage to be utilized in a mudroom! Do you think the role of the kitchen has changed since you started designing? Ann: Yes, the kitchen has become so much more than a kitchen. Because we are tearing down the walls between rooms, the kitchen takes on a great‑room effect. The larger, open space plays so many different roles, and the dining table has become the meeting place. Tiffany: I agree. In my kitchen, I stand in the same place to prep my food and entertain. Today’s kitchen has become the new living room. Entertaining has become a big part of my kitchen designs. Large islands provide the perfect place for dining and gathering and provide tons of storage. For these two Californians, experience backed with enthusiasm makes them a powerful team!

LIFE IS A BEACH
When I was a kid, there was something magical about movie nights. My dad would make the popcorn, and we’d all settle in on our plush, brown couch to watch “happily-ever-after” play out. That couch might have had more than its fair share of popcorn kernels lost between the cushions, but it was the backdrop for hours of quality time. When it came to designing the entertainment center in my living room, it was easy to choose the same cozy, timeless brown. Every time I see it, I’m comforted by the warm memories of family time and how much I look forward to Friday‑night movies.
I look forward to our weeklong family vacation to the beach every summer. It’s not a fancy resort that we go to, but it’s like family—it just feels right, and there is no place we’d rather be. Of course the kids are all up at the crack of dawn, and as the rye‑colored sun rises in the sky, we pack the caravan and start our migration to the beach. The week flies by, and we always look forward to next year when we will do it all again. As I prepare for my day before the kids wake up, I look at my bathroom with its rustic Maple Rye cabinets, and they remind me of those weeks at the beach and get me set for another beautiful day!
Maple Cognac is the perfect finish for balancing light and warmth. Medium in tone, it strikes the balance between classic and contemporary. When you’re planning a remodel, design your space to remind you of family traditions and to create new ones. Design Tip > Enjoy the living space you live in the most, making it a place to relax and recharge with glass cabinetry to keep your books, games and Blu-rays visible but dust-free.
Highlighting the versatility of Maple Rye is an on-trend finish that can easily suit a wide variety of tastes and styles. From a coastal, Refreshingly Relaxed look to the farmhouse feel of Fresh Character, it will make you feel at home. Design Tip > Elevate a timeless black and white bathroom by adding a Maple Rye furniture-style vanity—instant warmth and style.

ESPRESSO IS THE NEW BLACK I’ve always loved the color black. I prefer nighttime to daytime. I prefer my vintage Asian teapot in black as opposed to the latest porcelain colors. I love the way a black cat’s coat sets off its green eyes, just like my little black dress sets off mine. Black is so versatile, and it works with any style in any setting. So it’s no surprise I chose Espresso doors for my kitchen. Because no matter how much my interests and style may change, black will always keep my kitchen feeling luxurious and stylish. Duraform Espresso is a rich shade that draws the eye with its dark, dramatic appeal. It makes the perfect choice for turning your kitchen into a Sleek & Chic space or your bathroom into an Evolved Elegance at-home spa. TOP REMODELING M I S TA K E S
Most kitchen or bathroom remodels certainly add to your quality of life. They will also add to the value of your home when it comes time to sell. Getting a high return on your financial investment is important, and realizing your unique style in a remodel will surely pay dividends for a more comfortable and rewarding lifestyle.
NOT HAVING A BUDGET. Have you ever gone to the market and ended up at the checkout and come up short? Frustrating, right? Doing a remodel requires even more planning. NOT KNOWING WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. Translating your dreams into reality can be tough. But with a little bit of homework and a collection of things that inspire you, your Waypoint® dealer/designer can achieve a style that’s all you. Bring your designer your remodel magazine clippings, snapshots of favorite homes and examples of colors, textures and fabrics that you love. This is how the perfect remodel starts.
NOT CHOOSING YOUR APPLIANCES FIRST. Don’t end up with beautiful cabinetry that won’t accommodate your preferred appliances. It makes sense to choose those appliances first and design your cabinetry accordingly. Yes, there are standard sizes, but a Waypoint® dealer/designer knows that homeowners’ needs are anything but standard. Avoid the aggravation, delays and expense that come with appliances that will not fit the space.
NOT ALLOWING ENOUGH TIME FOR EXCELLENCE. Many designers, installers and contractors are notoriously optimistic about completion dates. Know that your remodel will probably take longer than anyone says it will. Do yourself a huge favor and do not schedule completion up against a holiday or wedding reception. This often ends in tears. Be realistic. Be patient. Allow enough time for remodel excellence. It’ll be fabulous forever.

CINDY ORTIZ T WO COLORS FOR ONE TRULY SENSATIONAL SPACE With a stunning, two-toned kitchen in 650 Painted Boulder and Painted Linen, Cindy Ortiz of EKB Kitchens beautifully updated an outdated space.
BEFORE
“This 1958 colonial still had the original wood kitchen,” explained Cindy. “They wanted to change up the layout for better functionality, flow and style.” Her seamless design did just that, creating a more open, airy space with an inviting feel. Waypoint® were the perfect choice B E F Ocabinets RE for the homeowners, who knew they wanted white and grey as their color scheme from the start. “The style and colors were what they were looking for and also fit in their budget,” said Cindy. “Waypoint offers enough styles and colors to offer my clients, and designing the kitchens is easy because while offering some modifications, there are not too many.” Moving forward with a light, neutral palette meant that Cindy was able to design a kitchen that feels like a breath of fresh air each time her clients come home to it. She ensured there would be plenty of counter space for appliances and added finishing touches like glass‑front cabinetry to showcase their favorite pieces. Polished chrome hardware completes the picture, tying the two tones together perfectly. From dated and dark to the perfect blend of modern and traditional, this masterpiece is truly the heart

THE KITCHEN SHOP 2415 S. 11th St. Kalamazoo, MI 49009 @thekitchenshops
ON TREND AFTER A TRANSFORMATION From the dated style of the ’60s to a clean, comfortable living space, this bathroom was in dire need of a dramatic transformation. However, Grant Dale of The Kitchen Shop faced the challenge of working with a cramped, closed-in space that had a door at the end of the room completely obstructing traffic flow. Grant designed an entirely new layout to take the bathroom from underwhelming to show-stopping enough to be our winner this year. He decided that not only would the original closet need to go, but also the shower and tub would have to move several feet. Once the new plan was in motion, he could create a space that was as efficient and easy to navigate as it was stylish. As to why he chose Waypoint? It was all in the details and design functionality. “Waypoint offered the quality and price point for the homeowner. My client loved the painted stone color. Also, we could modify the linen closet to 18-inch depth,” said Grant. “I feel Waypoint offers a great selection of colors and door styles to fit everyone’s design needs.” It turned out that 410 Painted Stone was indeed the perfect shade and style to complete the picture his clients wanted. Paired with a serenely white countertop and accent wall, the soft, neutral grey is the perfect backdrop for starting each day with relaxation and style.

FROM WASTED SPACE TO A SERENE SANCTUARY
BEFORE
When Danny Lovelace of JM Oliver first met his clients, they had an old screened-in porch just off the kitchen. Unused and empty, it was taking up valuable space and was in need of an entirely new purpose. Danny’s clients decided to transform the porch into a beautiful library and reading room for their daughter, and he brought their vision to life. He captured the perfect blend of warmth and openness, preserving the airy feel provided by white walls and abundant natural light but creating a cozy space that’s perfect for curling up with a good novel. With cabinets for orderly storage and open shelving for books, knickknacks and family photos, the living space is practical and neat without sacrificing homey, family touches. The warm feel is completed by exposed brick that beautifully complements the 650 Painted Linen finish. and the right décor, we accomplished just that,” said Danny. “Waypoint, from the beginning of the selection process through design and presentation, is easy to work with and explain to the customer. I look for quality, a fair price and consistency in a product—that’s Waypoint.”

A KITCHEN FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY TO ENJOY One of our very first winners in the New Construction category designed a kitchen to please a crowd. With plenty of seating and an abundance of both counter space and storage, Ali O’Grady of Kitchens by Design did just that. “This modern Brady Bunch of seven needed space!” said Ali. Set with the task of designing a kitchen for their new home, she made it a priority for the space to reflect the combined families’ style. She used a combination of traditional cabinetry doors and glass inserts to add decorative flair and functionality. Wine storage cubes and a built-in bar area that can double as a buffet make it especially easy to unwind at the end of the day. The final touches—double ovens and an island big enough for all of the kids to sit at—complete the picture of a kitchen that is as special as the family who gathers in it. Ali also worked with two colors of cabinets, combining 650 Painted Boulder and 650 Painted Harbor for a finished product with finesse. “Waypoint was selected for my clients’ new build because of the quality and value it offers,” she explained. “When my clients saw the Painted Harbor and Painted Boulder finishes, the decision was an easy, ‘YES!’ The result—combined style without compromise.”

STARTING WITH LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT When Taylor Billings of WS Design first met with her clients about adding a larger master suite onto their house, she connected right away with their vision. “The homeowners needed more space and wanted an oasis for themselves,” she said. The expansion allowed them to add a variety of luxuries: a double vanity, a larger shower, a freestanding bathtub and a spacious closet for storage. They also added a blow‑dryer pullout to the vanity for even more customized functionality. The vanity’s DT24 Duraform Drift finish was love at first sight. “After an introduction of cabinet lines, the homeowner started following Waypoint on Instagram,” said Taylor. “She saw the Drift finish and instantly fell in love. Everything in the bathroom was selected around this finish!” With Duraform Drift’s beautiful driftwood look as the backdrop, the bathroom came together in beautiful, coastal style. With serene cream and ivory touches, it blends elegance and efficiency in perfect harmony.

THREE TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HOUSEPLANTS ALIVE AND THRIVING Plants can breathe new life into a home, and you can change the look of a room by changing out your plants for the season. Here are a few tips on how to keep your houseplants alive year-round: The Right Amount of Water
L I V I N G S PA C E S H O W N I N 46 0 M A P L E R Y E
Overwatering is one of the most common reasons a plant doesn’t thrive. To find out if your plant needs water, stick your finger about an inch into the soil, close to the edge of the pot. If it’s dry, it’s time to water! Proper Drainage
WARM COLORS BALANCED BY COOL, NEUTRAL TONES WILL HELP MAKE A WORKSPACE THAT KEEPS YOU FEELING INSPIRED.
Make sure your pots have drainage holes to help prevent root rot. Another way to help is to put a layer of pebbles at the bottom of the pot, about 1/2-inch to 1-inch thick, to keep water away from the roots. The Right Lighting Be sure to read the label of the plant when you purchase it to find out the best lighting (and watering) for it. It will usually be either full sun, partial sun or shade.

LAUNDRY TRICKS EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW
Use dish soap, or chalk, to get out grease stains—just saturate the stain or use your fingers to rub on before washing as usual. Do not let the garment dry until the stain is completely gone.

To dry clothing ASAP, put it in the dryer on the highest setting with a dry bath towel. Remove sweat stains and odors from white T-shirts by rubbing with white vinegar before washing. To remove wrinkles quickly, throw the piece of clothing in the dryer with a towel and a few ice cubes. Ice cubes create steam that will get rid of the wrinkles, and the towel will fluff the clothing item and keep it from sticking to the side of the dryer. Never lose your socks again. Pin a mesh bag to your laundry hamper. As soon as you take off your socks, place them in the bag. Keep the socks in the bag when you wash and dry them.

CROWN YOUR LIVING SPACE WITH A STYLE THAT’S ALL YOU You’ve chosen your cabinets, decided on your style and picked your paint colors. But you’re not done yet. It’s time to decide on your moldings. Attention to moldings is what will transform a space from just a room to a stylish living space. Interior moldings on your cabinets provide more than an architectural accent; they define the attitude of your space and complete your style. It might seem like a small detail, but as they say, the difference is in the details. One of the easiest ways to upgrade or refresh a room during a remodel is to pay attention to your moldings, adding width, depth and height to the trim. The increased framing will enhance your living space and make more of an impact than you realize, including increasing the value of your home! Waypoint® has a variety of moldings to fit any style, from contemporary minimalist style to ornate traditional, vintage French style and everything in between. Work with your Waypoint® designer to find exactly what you had in mind. To see more molding buildups, visit waypointlivingspaces.com.

FINISHING
TOUCHES In fashion, as in everything, it’s all in the details. It’s the details that complete your look. Think jewelry. It is an intimately personal statement. It’s the measure of your taste. It can mean the difference between dressing well and looking absolutely smashing. Like jewelry, hardware is the personal touch that makes a living space truly yours, reflecting your unique personality and way of life. Waypoint® has a spectrum of hardware styles. Traditional designs with the look of aged metal. Old World pieces expressed as hammered iron and pewter with copper highlights. Brushed elements that relate perfectly to today’s stainless steel finishes. And artisan pieces that can enhance any cabinetry. Selecting hardware is often seen as a remodeler’s most difficult choice. Waypoint’s collection promises to complement your style with style, no matter what it is.

HOW TO
PREPARE
FOR A
REMODEL
YOUR REMODEL IS AN INVESTMENT One of the first and most important things you can do before you begin your remodel is to be sure of what you want to accomplish and what you’re willing to spend to achieve your goal.
W A Y P O I N T L I V I N G S PA C E S . C O M
Beyond improving your quality of life, remodeling increases the value of your home. In the remodeling business, it’s known as the price-value relationship. For example, according to the Remodeling 2020 Cost vs. Value Report,* homeowners in the market for reselling their homes recoup, on average, 58.6% of every dollar they spend on a midrange major kitchen remodel. That’s an excellent return on your investment. Master baths are another great investment when it comes to cost versus value, with a midrange bathroom remodel, on average, producing a 64% return on investment in 2020.
with you to make the most of your budget and create a living space you’ll be proud of. Ironically, not hiring a designer in an effort to save money often ends up costing homeowners more. An expert will help make sure all is done right the first time and avoid costly mistakes.
NOTHING GREAT COMES EASY Remodeling is disruptive under the best of circumstances, so to ease the process, it really helps to be ready. That’s why the first step shouldn’t be about tarps or runners, but about communication. *© 2020 Hanley Wood, LLC. Complete data from the Remodeling 2020 Cost vs. Value Report can be downloaded free at costvsvalue.com.
But before you even start calculating your return, you need to take a realistic look at your budget. Discuss what you’re willing to spend with your designer before you start to plan. A Waypoint® authorized designer can work

GET THE FAMILY READY Before anything else, discuss the process with your family. Tell them what’s going to happen and the approximate duration of the project. Tell them to steer clear of work areas, and let them know how to use alternative areas of the home for their day-to-day living needs.
ADVISE THE NEIGHBORS And while communication is important in your home, don’t forget to advise your neighbors of your project. Making neighbors aware goes a long way toward having their support as you upgrade your new living space. Monopolizing all the on‑street parking for months tends to alienate the friendliest of neighbors. Just a little heads‑up about your remodel will go a long way.

CO LO R & B E AU T Y OF WOOD
The wood for every cabinet door created by Waypoint® is carefully selected. Mother Nature insists on originality, so the characteristics of the wood grain and finish, whether in Cherry or Maple, will naturally vary slightly from piece to piece. But when it all comes together, homeowners are certain to be satisfied with the look, style and “wow” of their new living space.
CHERRY Cherry is a close-grained, multicolored hardwood with occasional pin knots and fine grain variations appearing as curls and waves. Streaking, knots and subtle color variations are what give this wood its unique character. Its color typically darkens some over time.
MAPLE Maple is an exceptionally hard, finely grained wood species with a fine, even texture. Many love the darker stains that moderate the color variance and lighter stains that mellow with golden hues over time.
PA I N T E D Long-lasting painted finishes on hardwood frames with furniture board center panels are a strong choice, with superior stability, consistency and coverage.

YOUR WORLD
Finding a color palette for your new living space is as easy as opening your eyes. Look around. See colors that appeal to you. Choose only colors you are drawn to. Let the seasonal fall colors inspire you: soft golden orange, deep brown, leaves and sky. Or maybe you’re inspired by colors that are natural but vibrant—like a basket of artichokes at a farmers’ market. Or get inspired by a neutral room setting with spots of color from your magazine. Look everywhere—and if you really get stuck, check your closet. There’s likely a favorite sweater, dress or piece of clothing to inspire a color palette that’s exactly what you had in mind.
PICKING YOUR PAINT COLOR FIND INSPIRATION. Don’t pick your color for the room first. You need to draw inspiration from the pieces that will be in that room, such as a piece of furniture, a rug or a favorite piece of artwork. DON’T OVERSATURATE. Keep a balance with a neutral base palette and vibrant, colorful accents. If you really want brightly colored walls, make sure the furniture and accessories in the room are neutral colors to balance it out. USE TESTERS. Paint large swatches of different colors on a wall before making your final decision on color and sheen. Leave them for up to a week so you can experience them at different times of day and with different lighting. ADDING MORE COLOR. Once you have your basic paint picked out, you might decide the room is not colorful enough for you. An easy way to add more color is to play up monochromatic color schemes by adding an accent color that is a cooler or warmer version of the initial color. Using a color wheel will make this much easier. You can also use a color wheel to pick a complementary color—colors that are across from each other create an intense and vibrant feeling together.
