produce and sit back while their chefs prepare the foods. You’ll never have a meal better than one with ingredients grown just steps away from your table. A portion of the produce comes from this sister property on Jalan Bisma (organic and pesticide-free) while majority is soured from nearby farms in Bedugul and beyond. Bisma Eight’s crew says, “Copper Kitchen & Bar is food for and from the soul; food that embraces the depth of Asian culinary tradition and the skill and élan of the contemporary kitchen. No one can live well unless they’re also eating well”.
Ubud is like nowhere else, and Bisma Eight reflects that. Their dining options are an authentic and inspired blend of flavors and what those ingredients mean to them. Bisma Gardens’ organic produce is the secret to Copper Kitchen and Bar’s fresh take on modern Asian cuisine; food for and from the soul. A chef’s Mise en Place is only as good
as the ingredients they have access to – which makes having a fully-stocked herb garden on the roof of Bisma Eight indispensable. The flavors found in Copper Kitchen & Bar begin at the Rooftop Garden. Their organic farm, Bisma Gardens, is a commitment to the agricultural traditions of central Bali and their belief in sustainable living. You are invited to pick from a selection of
Copper Kitchen & Bar enjoys an easy vibe throughout the day, from its airy and non-constrictive passageways to the rustic wooden benches, and comfortable booth seating. Sensible architectural features come together seamlessly to form a refined take on modern-casual dining. The fare embodies Chef Miles Belfield’s sensibility of keeping things soulful and crafty while paying homage to Ubud’s surroundings. Food is thoughtful, grown locally (as much as possible), and interpreted with nods to Asia while drinks are inspired by the thorough approach of the old world.

of a new project: hand-made chocolate produced in front of the consumer. With Be Chocolat, Michel Clement set up a new business concept, a model whose system means maximum reduction in investment, thus making the investor the producer of his own product, which he makes in front of customers, by hand, and tailored to their tastes and culture. To communicate these values, he works with people he already
Bali offered the possibility of checking the viability of the brand on a multicultural audience and in a climate supposedly opposed to the consumption of chocolate. In 2013, the pilot Be Chocolat shop opened in Canggu. By the time it has been up and running for a year, the team had confirmed the brand’s capacity to function in numerous atmospheres and cultures. MEET W BALI MUSIC CURATOR DAMIAN SAINT https://soundcloud.com/damian-saint
Named as one of the most prolific DJ’s in Asia and last year’s winner of The Yak Awards - DJ of The Year, Damian Saint is responsible for curating the line-ups at arguably the island’s best venue for underground house and techno. Damian always delivers the vibes in WOOBAR Bali and we asked him a few questions: When did you start DJing - and what or who were your early passions and influences? I started djing back in 1998 in and around the North West of the UK.. A very long time ago before it was cool to be a dj. Back then you were considered somewhat of a nerd/ music geek if you were a dj. My early influences came from listening to BBC Radio’s Essential Selection with Pete Tong, Carl Cox, Judge Jules, Stu Allen on Key 103 and my cousin was a huge influence too. He’s a few years older than me and would pass me albums from the likes of The Prodigy, Massive Attack, K-Klass and old Hacienda mix tapes, yes tapes… I began to hear how different records would blend into each other and eventually decided that’s what I wanted to do. A lot of people that get into djing are usually clubbers but for me it was the other way around. I’d not been in a club until my first ever gig. I’ve been hooked ever since.
Why do you choose Bali as your based and tell us behind the story when you join with W Retreat and Spa Bali Seminyak? Bali actually chose me! I’d been working for Ministry of Sound Asia for seven years as resident DJ opening clubs in Bangkok, Taipei and Singapore. When I finished my residency at Ministry of Sound Singapore in 2008 I was invited to come to Bali and play two gigs over a weekend at the old Ocean Beach Club in Kuta (Now Beachwalk Mall). I played on the Friday and after the gig the resident Dj asked me to join him for dinner. He then asked that after my gig on the Saturday would I be interested staying in bali and working as full time resident. It didn’t take me long to decide. That was June 2008 and here I am now in 2015 at The W Bali and loving every minute of it.
As DJ Music Curator, what do you do usually? My role as Music Curator for W Bali involves planning of the events / happenings at The W and Woobar Bali. It’s a very creative role and I work with an amazing team who I’d be stuck without. Woobar Bali has quickly become knows across the world for the quality and calibre of acts we host and my aim is push this even further by bringing the very best talent from around the globe. What is the biggest challenge you face so far as W Music Curator? And any memorable event? My biggest challenge I’ve had to face so far was making the role my own. My predecessor had built Woobar Bali up to such level and set the bar very high, I had big shoes to fill. There’s no guide book for this.. My first few months were a tornado of emails, booking requests, contracts and generally learning everything from scratch. At the same time I love the challenge. I’ve really been able to sink my teeth in and takes things in the direction I think is best. I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity and trust to do what I do. I’d have to say some of the most memorable events have been some of our Sunset Sessions featuring the likes of Art Department, Dennis Ferrer, Felix Da Housecat, Ben Westbeech live and of course our annual SPF Party. Do NOT miss this years SPF Party on July 26th with Scarlett Etienne, Sébasiten Léger and Cadenza’s own Michel Cleis. It’ll be huge!! What are your aspirations as music curator? My aspirations as Music Curator are to continue doing exactly what I’m already doing but to keep learning more everyday. I hope to continue meeting and working with more and more amazing people and generally have fun with it. I don’t know where it’ll take me or what’s next but for now we’re going to keep pushing boundaries and making great events with great music.
