FACEBOOK TIMELINE – WHAT IS IT? Facebook Timeline is the new layout for Pages. It will be rolled out to all Pages on March 30th.

Timeline is more visual. Fans can s;ll look at your Custom Landing Page as well as through your Wall Posts with a few clicks, seeing your memorable moments, photos, & events. Now, the features are more visually engaging!

TIMELINE – COVER & PROFILE PHOTOS You can prominently display Cover & Profile Photos at the top of page. •

Your Cover Photo is seen by Fans & is your first impression to new visitors; change out to showcase your most important news. Size: 851px wide by 315px high Cover Photos are not linkable banners. They are just sta;c photos. Facebook’s official Cover Photo guidelines: hYp://on.Z.me/CoverPhotoGuidelines Profile Photo – choose a logo; this represents your page all over Facebook Use a high quality image that scales from 180px by 180px to 32px by 32px

TIP: Choose a photos that exemplify your Brand’s personality and style.

TIMELINE – TABS Your page tabs are now displayed as boxes below the Cover Photo. You can customize the images for APPS under ‘Manage’ in ‘Edit Page’ in the Admin Panel. It’s 111 x 74 pixels. Tabs can be reordered by Page Admins, but only 4 will be visable while others will appear in dropdown #.

The photo box is set by Facebook and can not be moved.

HOW TO: REPOSITION TAB BOX ORDER 1.  Expand the Tabs sec;on to display all tabs

2. To Edit, click on the above Tabs sec;on. Hover over your Custom Landing Page tab, click the Pencil icon, then choose the Tab that you’d like your Custom Landing Page tab to “swap” posi;ons. BEST PRACTICES: Since Timeline only displays your first 3 Tabs, make sure to arrange your Tabs by priority. 6 6


TIMELINE – DEFAULT TABS Admins can no longer set a Default Landing Tab.

New Visitors will land on your Timeline when they go to your Facebook page. So, you’ll want to use your short URL that links directly to your Custom Landing Page.

TIP: Put your Bitly URL in your page’s About Sec;on.

To shorten your Custom Landing Page’s URL, goto Bitly.com  Enter URL  Click Shorten  Save it to monitor Clicks  Copy to About

TIMELINE: WHAT FANS SEE Status Updates, Photos, Videos, and Milestones are displayed on Timeline All Page updates are in chronological order and easily accessible to Fans. At the top of every Timeline, Fans will see their friends’ ac;vity with your Page. That’s ‘social proof’ because friends influence buying. TIP: Ask Fans to tag your page in posts to help spread the word about your Brand. 8 8


TIMELINE: TELL YOUR STORY Add important events in your Brand’s career to your Timeline: music tours, new videos, product releases, etc. To update your Status, click on your Timeline and select your update type: Text Status, Photo, Ques;on or Milestone . TIP: Take advantage of the increased visual space on your Timeline and use Rich Media (pics, videos, links) in your Timeline posts to drive engagement.

TIMELINE: VISUALLY ENGAGING DESIGN Add, Delete, Highlight, Pin Anchor or ‘pin’ your most important story to the top of your page for up to 7 days by clicking on pencil icon. Change out each week so Fans no;ce what's important.

To Highlight a post and make it widescreen, click the Star icon on a post.

TIMELINE: VISUALLY ENGAGING DESIGN Add a Milestone Event Set Milestones to define your key moments & make prominent. Example: reaching new Fan base, opening a new store, tour date, or winning an award. This tells your unique story on Facebook.

TIMELINE: FAN MESSAGING Fans can now Message you in private Messages are received in the Admin Panel, and you can turn them off in your Page’s Admin Sepngs.

TIP: Reach & Respond to your Fans in a quick, more personal way. Exchanging messages with Fans can be a great way to answer ques;ons and strengthen your rela;onship with them 1-­‐on-­‐1.

TIMELINE – CUSTOM LANDING PAGE Your Custom Landing Page will have the ‘Like’ bu^on at the top right of the page. TIP: Now the visual width of your page can be adjusted from the standard 520px up to 810px. Your Page s;ll has a unique URL. Add your shortened, customized Bitly link for this page to your About sec;on & add a custom cover to your APP box to drive engagement. BEST CHANGE: single-­‐focus layout without compe;ng visuals to right & leq of Landing Page.

TIP: Access above your Cover Photo or Hide Panel. Respond to messages & new ‘likes’ within 24 hrs. Click on Insights for analy;cs on how effec;ve your fan engagement is. 14 14


TIMELINE – ADMIN PANEL Ac_vity Log lets you easily see all of your updates without having to scroll through your en_re Timeline; access under ‘Manage’ dropdown. Or, Edit Your Page’s content by clicking ‘Manage’ in your Admin panel. Edit Page

TIMELINE – ADMIN PANEL Your Admin Panel offers you a quick snapshot of who you should respond to and helps you build your audience. Invite Friends from your personal profile, including all, lists, or recent interac;ons

TIP: When you ‘use Facebook as Page’, you can only access ‘create an ad’ under ‘Build Audience’. Click on ‘Manage’  ‘use Facebook as yourself’ so you can ‘Invite Friends’ & ‘Share Page’. BIG addi;on: ‘Request a name change for your Page’; access under ‘Help’. 16 16


FANS DON’T COME BACK TO TIMELINE Your brand’s Timeline needs to look its best, but 99% of Fans see your posts in their newsfeeds, not on your Timeline. Here’s your takeaway: Look COOL with the new Timeline, but be real.

More traffic, interac;on and sales will result from consistent posts – NOT because you have a cool Timeline. OBJECTIVE: Work hard on making your posts interes;ng & relevant so your page gets more likes and comments.

OUTCOME: If you don’t get responses, you become invisible.
