Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC) is partnering with dozens of other pet shelters across the country to paw-ticipate in a national howliday and gives back to our furry friends! Children (ages 4-12) will have the opportunity to read to shelter pets, decorate cookies, create an ornament, and visit with Santa. For Deck the Howls, children are invited to share the holiday spirit with adoptable pets by cozying up in their favorite pajamas and reading holiday stories provided by the Franklin Public library to furry friends. The children benefit by practicing their reading skills in front of a non-judgmental audience and developing empathy to help make compassionate, responsible choices when interacting with animals in the future. There will also be an opportunity to decorate cookies, create an ornament, take part in animal trivia for prizes and meet the big man himself, Santa! The animals benefit by learning how to relax around visitors, leading to quicker adoptions. Space is limited, reserve your child’s spot today!

With the help of lovable characters such as optimistic Dory, laid-back sea turtle Crush, and the supportive Tank Gang, Marlin and Nemo both overcome challenges on their journey to find each other and themselves. Featuring memorable songs such as “Just Keep Swimming,” “Fish Are Friends Not Food,” and “Go With the Flow,” Finding Nemo KIDS brings a vibrant underwater world to life on stage in a story full of family, friendship, and adventure. Star Bright Players Auditions – The Hunchback of Notre Dame
The Star Bright Players Spring 2024 production will be The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a lushly scored retelling of Victor Hugo’s epic story of love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero. Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. Peter Parnell’s book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel. The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be “Out There,” observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful Romani woman, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the Roma – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all. Please refer to our website HERE for important pre-audition information and forms. REHEARSALS will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm starting Wednesday, February 28 with a mandatory cast/crew/parent meeting. These rehearsals will be at the Williamson County Enrichment Center (110 Everbright Avenue – building between Franklin Library and Renaissance High School). There will also be 2 Saturday afternoon rehearsals from 12:30-3:30pm at the Franklin Rec Center on March 2 and April 6. PERFORMANCES/FEES - There will be four performances May 3-5 at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center. Once cast, a registration code will be provided to cast members. **The cast activity fee will be $200. AUDITION LOCATION

Stars to the East Performances – The Lightning Thief Our new Stars to the East Program’s inagural production will be The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. With book by Joe Tracz and Music and Lyrics by Rob Rokicki, this dynamic musical adaptation of Rick Riordan’s bestselling book opened on Broadway in 2019. Director: Blandina Vergara-Cruz
As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus’s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure “worthy of the gods” (Time Out New York). PERFORMANCES: There will be four performances January 20-21 at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center. Performances are Saturday, January 20 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm and Sunday, January 21 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. TICKETS: $15 and will be available to the public starting December 1 at wcpactn.com. Rising Stars Performances – Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR.
The Rising Stars Winter production for 2023-24 will be Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the delicious adventures of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film, in addition to a host of fun new songs, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR. is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth. Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR. follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory — or suffer the consequences. Director: Blandina Vergara-Cruz PERFORMANCES: There will be four performances February 24-25 at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center. The Star Bright Players Performances – A Christmas Carol (Broadway Version) The Star Bright Players Fall 2023 production will be A Christmas Carol, the spectacular adaptation of Charles Dickens’ most well-known story, adapted by Broadway heavy hitters Alan Menken (Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors) and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Seussical, Once on This Island). We are thrilled to be offering this holiday classic to our community! Ebenezer Scrooge is a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others. With an infuriated “Bah! Humbug!” Scrooge summates his feelings of Christmas tidings and charitable giving, but he’s forced to face his selfish ways when three ghosts on Christmas Eve lead him through his Past, Present and Future. Thanks to their guidance, Scrooge recognizes his faults and greets Christmas morning with a cheerful “Happy Christmas” before spending the day reconnecting and sharing love with those that mean the most to him.
PERFORMANCES: There will be six performances over two weekends for this holiday classic at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center. Performances are Friday, December 1 at 7:00pm; Saturday, December 2 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm; Sunday, December 3 at 2:00pm; Friday, December 8 at 7:00pm; and Saturday, December 9 at 7:00pm. The Williamson County Community Band is an all-volunteer band of amateur and seasoned musicians. This intergenerational group features approximately 60 musicians ranging in age from pre-teen to upper 80s and is made up of all skill levels. Everyone is welcome to pick up their instrument and join the band. Started in 2000, this band has grown and gained musical recognition and acclaim over the years throughout Williamson County and the surrounding mid-state area. Averaging several concerts a year, they perform free indoor and outdoor concerts for the community at various venues and parks, including The Williamson County Enrichment Center, The Factory, Aspen Grove, Westhaven, the Brentwood Library, Crockett Amphitheatre and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. For information on joining the band, contact director Randy Frame at rlf1950@bellsouth.net. Mission Statement: It is the goal of the Williamson County Community Chorus to engage passions, inspire achievement, deepen connections and broaden community through choral music. The Williamson County Community Chorus was founded in 2017 under the direction of Dr. Linda Bolding. The chorus grew quickly and at only 2 years old was invited to sing at Carnegie Hall in February 2020. The chorus is open for participation by qualified High School students, adults and seniors who have past experience and a passion for singing. The chorus performs no less than twice a year at the culmination of each session: Fall/Winter (SeptDec) and Spring (Jan-April) and enjoys a break over the summer months. They have performed large scale concerts, singing with an orchestra, and most recently kicked off the Christmas season to an audience of nearly 800. We are delighted for the success of this group and invite residents to audition and to support us in the audience. The chorus is directed by Karen Mabry Lewis, a veteran choral music educator from the Dallas area who obtained her BM degree with a concentration in Voice from Belmont University and a MM degree from SMU in Music Education and Vocal Performance. If you are interested in joining the Williamson County Community Chorus or for more information including sponsorship opportunities and audition appointments, please contact Carrie Cartwright at (615) 786-0186,ext. 2519 or Carrie.Cartwright@williamsoncounty-tn.gov or visit wcparksandrec.com. Each month, we will hit some local trails to walk and hike, enjoy a golf outing, a canoe adventure, experience zip-lining and more. Participants on hikes must be able to walk independently on different types of terrain. Some places we go may have easy or more difficult experiences for seniors to choose from. You will need to provide your own snacks and water for hiking outings, and lunch may be an option offered on some sport trips. These outings are weather dependent and if we need to cancel the outing we will notify everyone as soon as possible. Departure and return times vary. The cost of a hiking outing is $3 for transportation and cost will vary on sport trips. To see a current list of activites, visit HERE.
