2011 VOLLEYBALL Last season the Eagle volleyball team competed for a league and state title finishing second in the Tri-River Conference and making the season last until the final site of the Oregon School Activities Association state tournament at Pacific University. The Eagles found themselves matched up against their league rival and Tri-River Conference Champion that Regis Rams. The 2011 season brings a new energy to the East Linn Christian Academy volleyball program and new expectations from the great returning players and coaching staff. With every school losing players each season the Eagles return a large portion of their 2010 team with a rejuvenated passion for volleyball success. Head coach Karla Pearson is excited to begin the 2011 season with eight returning varsity players. Senior defensive specialist Katie Latimer leads the charge from the back row as a returning 1st

2011 CROSS COUNTRY

Y S COUNTR 2011 CROS

4

SEASON PREVIEW: Cross Country is a very demanding sport, it takes a minimum of five runners to make a team. Each team is allowed to have up to seven runners per team running at once. The place a runner finishes in a meet combined with his/her teammates calculates the scoring for the team. The lowest point total per team is the winning team. The first five runners on the team complete the scoring. A perfect score of 15 points would only happen if a team placed runners 1-5. Courses can be on terrain that varies, such as grass, dirt, or pavement. The courses can be very flat, hilly, or a combination of both. Runners compete in all types of weather and all regulated distances of 5000 meters or 3.1 miles. The 2011 boy’s cross country team has all five runners returning from a season that saw them finish 3rd in the district meet. Sophomore Jamin Hooley arrived late into the 2010 season giving

them their first complete team since Coach Gary Timms started his ninth year of coaching at East Linn Christian. Last season, then Sophomore, Kody Osborne qualified for the state meet placing 5th at the district qualifying meet. The 2011 boy’s team, with everyone returning, makes the goals much higher. The boys hope to make a run at the district championship and placing well at the state meet. Returning runners for the boys program are Senior Matt Hitt, Junior Taylor Becker, Junior Kody Osborne, Sophomore Jamin Hooley, Sophomore Michael Whitehead, and Freshman Wyatt Osborne. The girls cross country team returns four runners from their fifth consecutive district championship in 2010. This season however the girls program finds themselves searching for new runner to complete their team and give them a chance to continue their dominance and win their sixth consecutive district championship. Graduating three runners

from the top seven last year (Katelin Renfro, two time district individual champion, Lisl Ruckert and Whitley Garber) create many new challenges for the 2011 season. Returning for the Eagles are Sophomore Anna Burkey, Sophomore McKenzie Collins, Senior Zoe Engwall, and Junior Amelia Stieren. With a few more runners to complete the program it would not be impossible for the girls cross county team to challenge for the championship once again. COACHING STAFF Head Coach Gary Timms is starting his tenth year coaching cross country at East Linn Christian Academy. He has coaching experience from East Linn, Central Linn, and other schools. Gary has coached cross country, track, and basketball. New assistant coach Peter Randall will be working with coach Timms in making this a great season for our boys & girls cross country teams.

2011 SOCCER

SEASON PREVIEW: After a very fun and competitive 2010 season the Eagle’s Varsity Soccer program looks to rebuild for the future with a much younger group in 2011. During last year’s campaign the Eagle’s went a solid 5-7-2 overall. Only two of their seven losses were by a margin of more than one goal. The 2010 squad graduated five starters including conference all-league players Isaiah Blake and Austin Koos. Austin Koos earned allstate soccer honors, and Isaiah Blake is now playing soccer at Northwest Christian University in Eugene. In 2011 the Eagles return only two starters from last year’s team. Junior Erik Norton and Junior Austin Miszei are returning starters on defense and will be key components of the Eagle’s back line this Fall. Junior Kameron Clark
