Y llegó agosto. El corazón del verano, el climax de la temporada. Llegando de todas las partes del mundo, los turistas llenan las playas, las fiestas y los chiringuitos dando lo mejor de sí para poder sacar un fantástico selfie para su Facebook, preocupándose mas de como salir en la foto o en el video que de disfrutar del momento y de la gente que tiene a su alrededor.

And August arrived. The heart of the summer, the climax of the season. Receiving tourists from all parts of the world that fill all the beaches, the parties and the beach clubs, giving their best for a fantastic selfie in Facebook, worrying more about the picture or the video than enjoying the moment and all of those around them.

Este “postureo” que está envenenando la isla, deteriora la imagen al exterior a través de futuros programas que se grabarán los cuales son poco beneficiosos, perdiendo así poco a poco la magia y el encanto mediterráneo.

This “postureo” that is poisoning the island, damages the external image through non-beneficial future programs, losing little by little the magic and the mediterranean charm.

Yates anclando a pocos metros de la playa arrancando las posidonias, sin pensar en mantener la calidad de nuestros mares, solo preocupándose de estar lo mas cerca posible de un pequeño paraíso simplemente para decir a los amigos y familiares que ha estado allí.

Yachts that anchor close to the beaches damaging the posidonia meadows, without keeping the quality of our sea. They only concern with being as close as possible to a small paradise only to tell to their families and friends that they have been there.

Pero Ibiza no es solo esto. Donde puedes disfrutar de un gran atardecer en la misteriosa Es Vedrá, o a ritmo de tambores y bailes en Benirrás, aplaudiendo a cada sol que se hunde en el mar, agradeciendo la isla que nos ofrece este espectáculo cada día.

-¿Cuál es tu estilo como Dj? ¿Has pinchado siempre música techno? ¿Quién te inspiró a que te convirtiera en un productor? -Me encantan los grooves, esos sintetizadores místicos con lineas de bajos bombos y grandes intervalos de percusión. Pincho cualquier cosa entre house y techno. Depende del momento, del día, el lugar y el público. Interpretar la pista de baile es una de mis cosas favoritas. Empecé a principios del 2000 como Dj pinchando Hip Hop y música disco. Más tarde he progresado saltando a la House y Tech-house. Ahora hago Techno algo más oscuro y elegante. Mi mayor inspirador es Carl Cox, me fascinó desde el primer día. En mi opinión, es el mejor Dj del mundo y me encantaría aprender de él. -Nos hemos enterado que esta es tu primera temporada en Ibiza. Tienes la residencia en el REPENT los domingos. ¿Que te ha hecho elegir esta residencia y por donde irá tu carrera una vez que termine la temporada? Me siento bastante afortunado tener la residencia en Ibiza, especialmente de una como REPENT. Lo que hace este sitio extremadamente increíble es el hecho de tener uno de mis Djs de música Techno favoritos en programación. También es una gran fiesta organizada por Hi Tek Records, una marca fundada en Montreal. REPENT se ha convertido en el sitio perfecto para mi para poder enseñar mi exclusivo estilo techno de Montreal en Europa. Después del término de la temporada he planificado mudarme a Berlin, la capital de la música Techno, la excelencia del conocimiento musical y las fiestas alternativas.

What is your style as a DJ? Have you always played techno? Who inspires you as a producer? I love the grooves, those mystical synths with pumpy bass lines and big percussion breaks. I play anything between house and techno. It all depends on the time of day, the venue and the crowd. Reading the dance floor is one of my favorite things. I enjoy connecting with people and joining them on a musical journey. I started off as a HipHop and Disco DJ in the early 2000s.

Then progressed into House and Tech-House. Now I play mostly dark and groovy Techno. My biggest inspiration is Carl Cox, he has fascinated me since day one. To me, he the best DJ in the world and I would love to learn from him. We heard it is your first season in Ibiza. You have a residency at REPENT Sunday’s. What made you choose this residency and where do you see your career going once the season is over? I feel quite lucky to have a residency in Ibiza, especially one like REPENT. What makes this residency extremely awesome is that some of my favorite Techno DJs are included in the line-ups. Also, it is a great party hosted by Hi Tek Records, a label founded in Montreal. REPENT has become a perfect place for me to showcase my unique Montreal-style Techno in Europe. After the summer season I plan on moving to Berlin, the capital of Techno, in pursuit of musical knowledge and underground parties.

El espíritu, estética y el espectáculo nocturno dignos del Eden, como si en el club hubiera una conexión solo para este evento. Oscuro, infernal y tan solemnemente elegante con su nuevo interior brillante, el local tenía realmente su empuje en su fiesta semanal que combinaría el gótico con un saludable sentido del humor y una música totalmente vanguardista. Antes de llegar a este lugar, intenta pensar en él, pensar en algo en lo que te puedas arrepentir. Salir demasiado, quedándote despierto hasta tarde, bailando muchas noches seguidas, gastando todos tus ahorros en el bar?

The spirit, aesthetics and show of the night were spoton for Eden, as if the club had been tailor-made for this event. Dark, infernal and so stylishly solemn with its new glossy interior, the venue was truly thrusting itself upon a weekly party that would combine a gothic feel with a healthy sense of humour and absolutely cutting-edge music. Before coming here, try to think it over please what you might possibly repent of. Going out too much, staying up too late, dancing too many nights away, spending all your savings in the bar?

No te preocupes, estas no son las cosas por las que tienes que preocuparte. Estos son los elementos que construyen la esencia de la vida y la hacen significativa. Lo que es mas crucial en este caso, tu mayor pecado y tu perdida más lamentable serán un olvido en esta fiesta, de lo que definitivamente te arrepentirás mucho al volver a casa de Ibiza.

Don’t worry, these are not the things to be anxious about. These are the elements that make up the joy of life and make that life meaningful. The most crucial thing in this case, your biggest sin and your most regrettable loss will be to miss this party, which you will definitely repent a lot of upon coming back home from Ibiza.

chelina manuhutu -¿Qué supone para ti pinchar en una local como el Blue Marlin?

CM- Blue Marlin es uno de los sitios más mágicos que todavía se pueden saborear en Ibiza. Ha sido el primer lugar donde empecé a pinchar (antes de Pacha) y es un sitio donde puedes pasar todo el día entero olvidándote de tu rutina. ¡Desde el desayuno hasta el anochecer! -¿Cuáles son tus planes y tus proyectos futuros al termino de la temporada?

-Hola Chelina, sabemos que llegas del mundo de la moda, desfilando para Victoria’s Secret y ahora uno de los nombres más cool en Ibiza. Preséntate y cuéntanos algo más sobre ti.

CHELINA- Hola! Soy Chelina Manuhutu, una deejay y productora de

Amsterdam. Empecé con el mundo de la música a nivel profesional en el 2011 y vine directamente a Ibiza durante un breve periodo para explorar la música y desarrollarme personalmente Me encanta pinchar y hacer música Tech house, y el Techno, empezando con muchos bajos, sonidos profundos, funk y percusiones. -¿Cómo surgió la relación con Magnum Bookings?

CHELINA- Pues, ha sido divertido. El año pasado me contaron en el Blue Marlin que podrían tener una agencia para mí, pero no estaban seguros dado que estaba trabajando como modelo. Era una de las agencia más alternativas en Europa. Los chicos de la agencia vinieron a verme y a bailar en mi set como locos. Supongo que vieron un potencial en mí y me pidieron que me uniese a ellos. Al día de hoy se ocupan de mi gestión y reservas a nivel mundial.

CM- Tengo que trabajar en el estudio y preparar algunos temas para Pacha, como también recopilaciones. Tengo un buen calendario de conciertos en Zurich, Barcelona, Madrid, Bucarest… será un invierno muy interesante. -Relaciones con Ibiza y tus lugares favoritos en la isla.

CM- Para mí Ibiza es el sitio más inspirador del mundo de la música, y ahora Magnum bookings me ha fichado. Es una gran agencia con unos de los mejores artistas a nivel mundial. Ahora soy realmente feliz de ser una dj con residencia en el maravilloso y alternativo party de Solomun+1, cada domingo al Pacha de Ibiza y también pinchando en el Blue Marlin. Algunos domingos al Showtime y mensualmente para la edición de Playboy, al gran pre party de Solomon al Café Mambo de Ibiza y otros sitios fabulosos en esta mágica isla. ¡Este el motivo por lo cual me vas a encontrar en Ibiza! -¿Te sientes más deejay o modelo?

CM- Ser modelo es claramente una carrera atractiva y soy orgullosa de trabajar para esta industria. Pero, como he dicho antes, la música es mi verdadera pasión.

manuhutu -Hello Chelina. We all know that you come from the world of fashion, parading for Victoria’s Secret and now one of the coolest name’s in Ibiza. Can you introduce yourself and let us know more about you?

CHELINA- Hello! I’m Chelina Manuhutu a DJ and Producer from Amsterdam, i started with music professionally in 2011 and went to Ibiza straight away for some time to explore music and to develop myself. Music has always been a important part of me and cannot life without it. I started modeling really young and due my successful career (flying around the world every week) I couldnt invest time at all in the music. But in 2011 I found a studio in Amsterdam and I decided to put all my energy here. I love to play and make Tech house, Techno music from the start with a lot of bass, deepsounds, funk and percussions.

-Relationship with Ibiza and your favorite places of the Island.

CM- Ibiza is the most music inspiring place of the world for me and i’m now signed at Magnumbookings, a great agency with one of the best artists worldwide Now im really happy to be a resident DJ of the amazing underground party Solomon+1, every sunday at Pacha Ibiza and also playing at the Blue Marlin Ibiza, some sundays at Showtime and the monthly Playboy editions, the Great Solomon pre party’s at Cafe Mambo Ibiza and other amazing places on this magical island. So thats why you can find me in Ibiza. -Do you feel more a deejay or a model?

CM- Modeling is a nice career of course and I’m really proud of work on this industry. But as I said before, music is my passion.

-Can you tell us how your relationship with Magnum Bookings began?

CHELINA- That was funny. Last year they told me at Blue Marlin that they could have an agency for me but they were not sure since I was a model and they were one of the best underground agencies in Europe. The guys from the agency came to see me and they danced my set like crazy. I guess they saw the potential and they asked me if I want to you join them. Today they are doing my management and bookings worldwide. -What does the experience of mixing in a location as Blue Marlin mean to you?

CM- Blue Marlin is one of the magical places that you still can taste in Ibiza. Its the first place where I started to play in Ibiza (before Pacha) and it’s a place where you can spend the whole day and forget the rutine. From breakfast till night. -Which are your after-season planes and projects?

CM- I have to work in the studio and prepare some tracks for Pacha recordings and some compilations. I have a good calendar with gigs in Zurich, Barcelona, Madrid, Bucharest… its going to be an interesting winter.

PAPA VINILO El ciclo de la vida nos somete a incesantes cambios, estos cambios provocan en muchos casos la aparición de las denominadas “Burbujas” o ilusiones que contentan y enriquecen a algunos, pero que a la larga acaban destruyendo un sector por culpa de la avaricia, la incompetencia o la ignorancia de algunos. La música electrónica y su entorno está sufriendo las consecuencias de esta Burbuja que nos recuerda a la crisis inmobiliaria que sufrió España hace unos años, igual que entonces que tenías todo tipo de personas sin formación haciendo de constructores, promotores y asesores inmobiliarios, ahora nos encontramos con millones de Dj’s e incluso productores. Evidentemente generalizar no es bueno, y como todo en la vida hay un pequeño halo de luz, una esperanza para gente trabajadora, constante y con talento que poco a poco pueda lograr su meta, eso sí, que se armen de paciencia. Para los artistas que llevan más de 20 años en la electrónica y que han visto toda esta evolución, se hace duro entender al ser humano, pero en mi experiencia personal una de las cosas que más me están machacando el cerebro es ver como se recurre hoy en día a nuestro viejo amigo el vinilo para salvar el producto caduco del Dj. Las nuevas tecnologías han conseguido acercar a más público a la creación y difusión de esta música, pero su mal uso ha permitido un intrusismo desmesurado, una falta de criterio supina que en muchos casos resulta tediosa.

¿Cuantas fotos de cabinas llenas de gente con el artista levantando la mano y el público pasando de su culo se ven?

Muchísimas… Porque ahora media sala tiene la sensación de poder hacer lo que ese tío que esta encima de ellos hace, y la otra mitad básicamente le importa un pimiento lo que pasa en esa cabina, es el problema de comercializar un producto. Se ha perdido el respeto y la admiración porque la sensación es que el artista no está haciendo algo especial, y la realidad es que en muchos casos es así.

¿Solución?

Llamemos a PAPA VINILO, pero no con el serato, etc.. Que incluye la famosa función SYNC o traducido al español “no tengo ni idea de cuadrar dos temas de oído”, se esta invocando al plástico real, a la clásica maleta de discos sin trampa ni cartón, esa que se rellena con criterio, seleccionando realmente una línea musical, y que evidentemente filtra de subirse a una cabina a todos esos seres arrítmicos que te disparan loops y filtros a destiempo sin cesar durante toda su repetitiva sesión. Como amante del vinilo y propietario de una tienda estoy encantado de ver el repunte que está volviendo a tener el acetato, pero como consumidor del género me molesta un poco ver como gente que lo enterró, criticó y lapidó hace unos años, ahora lo invoca para que le salve el culo, y también hacer mención a todos aquellos que nunca pincharon con vinilo y ahora te dejan ver en sus redes su idílico pasado con él. Lo bueno de todo esto es que PAPA VINILO no es rencoroso, y os deja que lo volvías a utilizar, mientras no se invente un Technics con SYNC por lo menos podremos disfrutar de un Dj cuando veamos 2 o 3 technics y una maleta de vinilos en la cabina.

FATHER VINYL Solution?

The circle of life takes us through constant changes that often cause the so-called “bubble” or illusions that satisfy and enrich a few. But in long term they end up destroying the business due to greed, incompetence or ignorance of some. Electronic music and its environment have suffered the effects of this “bubble” that reminds us of the real estate crisis in Spain years ago. Same as then, where there was plenty of non qualified people working as builders, promoters and real estate advisors, now we find the same is happening again with millions of Djs, included promoters. Indeed we cannot generalize. As like all things in life , there is a halo of light, a hope for steady workers with talent that , little by little, reach their aim. But they have to be patient.

We call FATHER VINYL, but not with the Serato, etc… that includes the famous function SYNC or in Spanish “I don’t have any idea how to match two themes”. What we plead for is the real piece of plastic, the traditional suitcase full of discs , no cheating. That case you fill in with a criteria, selecting a real line of music and which will obviously prevent all those unrhythmical people who use loops and filters at the wrong time non stop during all their boring sessions, from getting into a booth. As a vinyl lover and owner of a shop I’m delighted to see it is coming back. But as a listener of the genre, it annoys me a little bit how the same people that buried, criticized, stoned it years ago are now calling it on just to cover their back. It´s also worth mentioned that all that dJs that never mixed with a vinyl, are boasting about using it in the past in their social networks. The good thing is that FATHER VINYL is not resentful. It allows you to use it again, at least until a Technics with Sync. Is invented, So we can enjoy a Deejay while we see 2 or 3 technics and a suitcase full of vinyls in the booth.

For the artists that have been working for more than 20 years in the electronic music environment and that have seen the progressive evolution, it’s hard to understand the human being. On my personal experience, that makes me mad, I can see today how our old friend, the vinyl, is used for saving the deejay’s outdated product. The new technologies have succeeded in bringing the audience closer to the creation and promotion of this music. On the other hand, its misuse has enabled an immeasurable intrusion, a lack of criteria that in many cases might be tedious.

How many people have you seen in a picture showing their hands in the booth with the artist while the public didn’t matter to him?

Lots… Because half of the club feels that has the power of doing the same things that guy up there is doing and the other half basically doesn’t care about what is happening in the booth. This is the problem of marketing a product. The feeling is that the artist isn’t doing anything special, so the admiration and the respect will are lost and the reality is that in many cases this is exactly what happens.

El verano avanza y nos plantamos en un mes de agosto en el cual la isla se volverá a llenar de gente. Tardarás el doble en ir a comprar el pan, las carreteras estarán colapsadas de coches, te será difícil encontrar sitio para tu toalla en la playa y las colas para entrar en alguna fiesta te podrán llegar a sacar de los nervios, pero no todo será malo, promotores y fiestas que han fracasado en junio y julio, llenarán su fiesta en agosto y con suerte hasta recuperan parte del dinero perdido.

As summer goes on we get close to the month of August when the island will be full of people. -Hola Manu, me alegra entrevistarte ahora, justo en el momento en el que se cumplen seis años desde que adoptaste el nombre artístico de UNER. ¿Que supuso para tu carrera esa nueva etapa que daba comienzo ni más ni menos que con un lanzamiento en Diynamic, sello propiedad de Solomun?

UNER- Fue el inicio de una “nueva vida”. Fue un cambio mental,

laboral y vital en general, no solo en cuanto a la música sino a como veía la vida en general. Anteriormente me vi atascado, focalizado en cosas que no tenían sentido y gastando energía y tiempo en otras que no hacían nada en mi beneficio mental. Así que esa decisión de romper con todo y de poner toda mi energía en hacer solamente lo que me gustaba, lo que me apetecía en cada momento y lo que realmente me llenaba y me hacia sonreír, fue la mejor decisión que he hecho en la vida. Ademas el acierto de acercarnos a diynamic en el momento en el que el sello no era mayormente conocido y ayudar en ese empujón desde el principio, hizo que todo fluyera muy bien. Lo demás es historia. -¿Y cual consideras que ha sido la clave del éxito que te catapultó al reconocimiento internacional en tan poco tiempo?

UNER- No creo que sea cuestión de un elemento en concreto sino

de un conjunto de trabajo, tanto mío como del equipo que trabaja conmigo y de respeto y amor a lo que hacemos. Trabajamos todas las horas que podemos, intentamos tener una relación con la escena, sana y respetuosa, y sobre todo, no nos fijamos en lo que hace el resto ya que eso te hace perder energía y tiempo y solamente nos concentramos en lo que nosotros queremos hacer y a donde queremos llegar. Marcamos metas cortas y así siempre avanzamos. Creo que todo ese conjunto de cosas son las que hacen que sigamos pedaleando con mas fuerza que nunca. -¿Cuál es la conquista que más orgullo te hace sentir de estos 6 años como UNER?

U- Ha habido mucho hitos en estos últimos años, como todo lo que conseguimos en Ibiza, los discos, el trabajo en festivales, etc... pero si tengo que elegir una, personalmente me quedo con el remix a Laurent Garnier, para mi uno de los artistas referentes en la escena club, respetado y adorado por casi todo el mundo. Como músico, poder llegar a trabajar en un remix para El Maestro, ha sido por ahora una de las cosas que mas orgulloso me han hecho sentir.

-Desde mi punto de vista, otra de esas grandes conquistas debe de ser trabajar “codo con codo” con un grande de la escena como es Technasia. Cuéntanos en que consiste vuestro show conjunto.

U- Lo de las colaboraciones con Technasia surgió como todo lo que hacemos, de forma natural y así seguimos trabajando, sin pretensiones y haciendo sólo las cosas que nos apetecen. Surgió todo desde año y pico en Miami, ya que hicimos un b2b espontáneamente y de ahí empezaron a surgir cosas. Lo mejor es que los 2 tenemos carreras por separado y somos artistas independientes y no tenemos ningún lazo profesional mas allá de lo que realmente nos une que es el amor a la música y así todo es mucho mas limpio y mas fácil. Hacemos lo que nos gusta cuando nos apetece y eso mantiene siempre la “llama de la pasión” encendida.

-Por supuesto, antes de tu salto como UNER, ya llevabas unos cuantos años recorriendo las cabinas y lanzando grandes producciones con otro pseudónimo, además de regentar tu propio sello discográfico, ¿Qué puedes contarnos de esos primeros años de carrera?

U- Esos primeros años de carrera (que en total suman 14, hasta que apareció UNER) fueron el aprendizaje de todo lo que hacemos ahora. Son los años que me hicieron quien soy, los años que conocí a la gente que conozco, que aprendí lo que es el esfuerzo, lo que me alejó del ego, los años que me mostraron las cosas que no se deben hacer. Años de rectificaciones y de muchos errores gracias a los cuales hoy estoy donde estoy. Estoy muy orgulloso de todo lo que hice y de los errores que cometí y si tuviera que repetir mi vida, repetiría cada uno de ellos ya que todo ese tiempo me han hecho quien soy tanto personal como profesionalmente. Fue un tiempo muy bonito para mi, por el tiempo que compartí con toda la gente que se cruzó en mi vida y con mis padres, que viajaban conmigo, sobre todo al principio. Y aún miro atrás, escucho lo que hacía y se me dibuja una sonrisa. Siempre estaré muy orgulloso de “Real Dream”, de “Lin Michel”, de “Groove Garcia”... Que más puedo pedir. -Imagino que aun te quedan muchos proyectos por desarrollar y muchas metas por alcanzar. Ha llegado a mis oídos que vuelves a embarcarte de nuevo en un proyecto de sello discográfico. Háblanos de ello.

U- SÍ, es algo que tenía ganas de desarrollar desde 0, junto a mi manager y amigo Alex Montoya, el cual me aconseja y me ayuda día a día en todo, tanto a nivel profesional como personal. Es un proyecto que si todo va como va, arrancaremos después del verano. Ahora mismo, estamos cerrando las primeras releases del sello, que definirán la linea musical y la personalidad del mismo y en cuanto esté todo cerrado, os podremos contar mucho más. Lo que si te puedo asegurar es que tenemos muchas ganas de salir a la luz, de recibir y ayudar a nuevos artistas y sacar mucha música, siempre con alma.

U- La magia de la isla, pero la de verdad, no la de la gente que vive aquí un año y parece que la han inventado ellos. Yo no soy Ibicenco, no he vivido aquí nunca y no creo que me mueva de mi Lleida natal, pero si te aseguro que la isla me robó el corazón desde el primer día que la pisé, ya hace años. Y no hablo solo de música, sino de la gente, del clima, de la cocina, de la energía y de la magia... Es un sitio inspiracional tanto a nivel profesional como espiritual y le debo muchas alegrías y muchos momentos inigualables. Cada año, mi visita a Es Vedrá no puede faltar y no a pedirle nada, sino a darle las gracias y contarle lo que sigue pasando. Este año, la visita será algo diferente ya que hay una persona que ya no está a mi lado y esta vez si que le pediré que la cuide muchísimo, pero creo que la conexión es inmensa y así lo siento. -¿Qué te depara este verano 2015 en Ibiza?

U- Mucho trabajo, mucha música, muchos nuevos y viejos amigos, magia, pasión y amor, que es lo mas importante. Compartiremos el tiempo entre hormigas en Ushuaia, Revoluciones en Space, puestas de sol en Blue Marlin, Reverses en Sankeys y Paradises en DC10. Un año para nosotros muy especial y muy intenso. Estamos seguro que será un verano mágico (y ya lo está siendo). -Por último, cuéntanos un deseo que tengas para la escena musical electrónica en los próximos años.

U- Solo deseo que todo el mundo tenga lo que se merezca, en todos los sentidos. Es lo más bonito que nos da la vida. Y es lo que realmente hará que la escena sea cada vez más real, más verdadera y más limpia. El otro día leía un comentario “más de esto y menos de aquello”, pues Amén.

-Otro de esos grandes proyectos que ha llamado mucho nuestra atención es tu directo con una banda musical. ¿En qué consiste este “live” y cómo surgió el proyecto?

U-El proyecto, como todo, surgió de manera natural, por sensaciones vividas en diferentes eventos y sobre todo, gracias a nuestro paso por el FIB del año pasado donde se nos despertó el gen de volver al directo, tal y como hacía años atrás, pero de un modo diferente, en forma de banda. Hemos hecho un par de eventos especial con algunos músicos amigos, pero ahora ya tenemos todo el equipo de artistas que formarán parte de esto y nos ponemos a trabajar en el álbum de lanzamiento, el cual sera todo original (lo hecho para estas presentaciones se quedan solamente como temas de presentación

UNER -Hi Manu, I’m very glad to interview you, close the imminent 6th anniversary since you gave yourself the artistic name of UNER. What has this step meant for your career started with the launch in Dynamic, Solomun’s label?

UNER- It was the beginning of a “new life”. It was a global

change for my mental, professional and lifestyle status, not only for the music, but the life in general. I previously saw myself stuck, focused on things without any sense, wasting energies and time in things that didn’t give me any benefit. So, my decision to break through and investing all my energies in something I liked, what I wanted to do in each instant, which filled me and made me smile, it was the best decision of my life. After all, the merit of our decision to approach Dynamic when this label was not widely knows helping from the beginning, allowed everything to flow well. And the rest is already history. -What do you consider to be the key to success that pushed you onto international recognition in such a short period of time?

UNER- I don’t think it’s a question of only one specific element,

but a set of work, made by myself and the team working with me, thanks to the respect and love of what we do. We work extra hours if needed, trying to have an healthy and respectful relation with the stage. We don’t want to focus on most people do as it’s a waste of time and energy. We concentrate only on what we want to do and where we want to go. We define short and precise targets, so we always progress. In my opinion, thanks to this set of facts , we continue riding with more strength than ever. -Which is your best conquest that makes you so proud during these 6 years as UNER?

U- These last years were full of milestones, as we achieved in Ibiza, the discos, job in festivals, etc. But If I really need to mention one, my favorite is the Laurent Garnier remix. I think he is a reference among artists of the club stage, respected and adored by almost everyone. As musician, working in a remix of El Maestro it was one of the best conquest that made me so proud.

-From my point of view, another conquest is working side by side with one of the most important of the stage as Technasia. Tell me about this show done together.

U- My collaboration with Technasia started as all we do, in a

natural way and this is the way we work, without pretensions, doing what we like. This idea began more than a year later in Miami, as we did a b2b spontaneously and from then ideas were beginning to emerge. The best thing is that we have a different careers and we are independent artists. We have only a professional relationship thanks to the love for music, so all it’s easier and comfortable. We do what we like when we want and this keeps the “flame of passion” alighted. -Of course, before your jump as UNER, you were in the booth for several years launching great productions under other nick name, apart from managing your own label. What can you tell us about these first years of your career?

U- My first years of career (for a total amount of 14, before

UNER appeared) have been my training of what we do nowadays. These years made me aware of who I am, where I met the people that I know, I learnt what is an effort, what pushed me away from the ego, the years that showed me what not to do. Years full of correction and mistakes that helped me to be where I am. I’m very proud of what I did and all my mistakes and if I had the change to repeat my life, I would do the same errors that made me how I am personally and professionally. It was a great time for me, as I shared it with all the people crossing my way, also with my parents that travelled with me, above all at the beginning. When I look back and listen what I did, I smile. I am always proud of “Real Dream”, of “Lin Michel”, of “Groove Garcia”… What else can I ask for. -I can image that you still have a few projects to develop and still many goals to be achieved. I have heard about a new project for a label. Let’s talk about it.

U- Yes, of course. It’s a project I would like to develop from zero, together with my manager and my friend Alex Montoya that advices and helps me daily about everything, personally and professionally. It’s a project that will start after the summer , if all goes well. Now we are closing the firsts release of the label, that will define the line of music and its personality. When all will be more clear, we can tell you more about it. What I can assure you is that we are looking forward to coming out, to see and help new artists, making good music, always done with all our heart.

-A live with an orquesta is one of the big projects that strikes us. Can you explain it and how this project started?

U- The project, as all the things, started in a natural way, thanks to share sensations in different events. Above all thanks to our step in FIB last year where generated the interest of going back to live, as years ago. But in a different way: with a music band. We did various special events with some musical friends. But now we have all the artist team completed, so we can start working to the launching of the album in a quite original way and done thinking about the Live. We will present the entire team soon! We look forward to working all together! -As we come from Ibiza, we would like to know what’s the best for you in our beloved island.Tell us about the locations that you think make the island so special.

U- The magic of the island, but the truth is is not the same for the people that live here for a year and think that invented it, LoL. I’m not from Ibiza, I have never lived here and I think I will never moved from my home town of Lleida. But I can assure that it has stolen my heart from the first day I was here, years ago. I’m not just talking about music, but also about people, climate, cuisine, energies and magic… this place inspires in a professional and spiritual way and I owe a lot of joys and unbelievable moments to this island . Each year , my visit to Es Vedrá should not to be missed.I ask nothing from this place , only to thank it and tell about what happens to me. This year, this visit will be different as there is a person that is not here yet and I will ask to take good care. But I think there is an immense connection and so feeling. -What does this summer 2015 have in store for you in Ibiza?

U-Lot of work, music , new and old friends, magic, passion and love, that are the most important things. We will share our time among the ants in Ushuaia, Revoluciones in Space, sunsets in Blue Marlin, Reverses in Sanseis and Paradises in DC-10. A very special and intense year for us. We are sure that this summer will be magic (and has already been). -Finally, tell us about a dream you have about the music electronic stage for the next years.

U- I only hope that all people have what they deserve to have, in every sense. It’s the best thing that the life gives us. Thanks to this, the stage will be more and more real, more genuine and more clear. I was reading the other day a comment: “more on this and less on the other” so, Amen.

Las dos caras de Ibiza

Ibiza es generalmente conocida a nivel mundial por su sonido más comercial, debido a que muchos de los Top Dj´s más conocidos forman parte de esta corriente. Es increíble por ejemplo comprobar cómo David Guetta, después de 14 temporadas en Pachá, todavía consigue hacer que toda la sala saque los móviles de sus bolsillos para grabar el momento en el que entra en la cabina para iniciar su sesión. Y no me malinterpreten, no me gusta criticar a la gente que ha conseguido tal nivel de éxito, porque seguramente sea merecido. Además, este tipo de Dj´s hacen que la gente joven se interese por primera vez en la música electrónica, saltando posteriormente a otros estilos más sofisticados.

Otras experiencias musicales interesantes han sido Daze Maxim, Jan Krueger o Point G en Circoloco. Una fiesta de Lola ED en Blue Marlin con Greg Brockmann y Livio & Roby y grandes noches también en Underground o Zoo Project entre otros.

Por otro lado, Ibiza tiene también otra cara, más exclusiva y underground, donde puedes escuchar muchos Dj´s de calidad pinchando muy buena música electrónica. El pasado mes de julio tuve la oportunidad de disfrutar de espectaculares directos de Mathew Jonson en DC10, Henrik Schwarz y del maestro Thomas Melchior, uno de los miembros de Soul Capsule, a pie de playa con entrada libre.

Asimismo, este mes empezaremos una serie de podcasts en We Are Ibiza magazine, que arrancará conmigo mismo, con un sonido underground, y que podrás escuchar en mi soundcloud, en la fan page y en la web de la revista.

La oferta musical en la isla es enorme, si sabes a dónde ir. Este mes de agosto puedes escuchar mi lado más deep y baleárico en Guaraná Salinas, Jacaranda Lounge, Hotel Santos y Lips Reartes. Y también estaré pinchando un sonido más underground en 9Nine Ibiza casi todos los viernes con la fiesta Twice un nuevo proyecto junto a mi compañero Aday Chinea.

The two sides of Ibiza Ibiza is generally known worldwide for its commercial sound, because most of the top Dj´s around the world follow that kind of sound. It´s amazing for example how David Guetta, after 14 years on the decks of Pachá, is still able to make every single clubber on the main room take their phones out of their pockets just the second he get in the Dj booth, only to film that special moment. And don´t get me wrong, I don´t like to criticize people who have achieved that kind of success, because is probably deserved in the first place. Besides, that Dj´s are responsible for make young people to get interested in electronic music, skipping some times to other more sophisticated styles later on. On the other hand, there is another side in Ibiza, more exclusive and underground, where you can find and listen to several quality Dj´s dropping sensational underground electronic music. This last July I had the chance to enjoy a live set of Mathew Jonson at DC10, another one of Henrik Schwarz and also a set from the master Thomas Melchior, one of the members of Soul Capsule right on the beach with free entrance. Another great musical experience has been to listen to Daze Maxim, Jan Krueger or Point G at Circoloco. A Lola ED party at Blue Marlin with Greg Brockmann and Livio & Roby, and the great nights of Underground or Zoo Project, just to name a few. The musical offer in the white island is huge, if you know where to go. This August you can listen to my deep and Balearic sounds at Guaraná Salinas, Jacaranda Lounge, Hotel Santos or Lips Reartes. And I´ll be dropping my underground side at 9Nine Ibiza, every Friday on Twice a new project with my mate Aday Chinea. Additionally, this month we´ll start a podcast series here in We Are Ibiza Magazine, starting with myself dropping quality underground tracks. //oriol calvo -Empezamos por el principio, como marcaron aquellos años tu trayectoria como artista? Naci en Barcelona y llegué a la isla hace más 15 años y con una historia muy simpática, relacionada con el termino Serendipty… sin buscar nada especial encontré algo mucho mejor, que sin duda como dices marcaría mi trayectoria, tanto profesional como personal. Juntarme con Joan Tur de Discos Delta fue la mejor entrada profesional posible a la isla. Isla que ya conocía y visitaba desde muy pequeño al tener familia residiendo aquí. Estar en contacto con la industria, artistas, clubs, etc.. me facilitó mucho los contactos, y sobre todo me dio una cultura y un aprendizaje muy importante. Las cosas han cambiado mucho, pero obviamente fueron unos años muy buenos. Se vivía la música de otra manera, mucho mas exclusiva, el tener o no tener un vinilo para una sesión hacia que la misma fuera diferente a la de otros djs. Mi posición era muy clave y poder compartir esa posición privilegiada con toda la escena de artistas era genial!! Roger Sanchez, Tiesto, y un largo etcetera y sobretodo toda la plana mayor de artistas de la isla, como Pippi, Valentin Huedo, Angel Linde, y muchos otros venían varias veces a la semana a buscar las novedades que llegaban cada día. -¿Qué te llevó a dar el salto a las cabinas como Dj? Ya trabajaba en Barcelona como Dj, la cosa viene de lejos, y en Ibiza, trabajando en Delta, surgen los contactos y las oportunidades, empiezo trabajando por la noche después de la tienda en la terraza de Amnesia en el puerto de Ibiza, y empiezo a tocar en muchos lugares, con noches en las fiestas People From Ibiza y en Openings y Closings de Amnesia y en lo que ahora se llaman beach clubs, antes no sé ni cómo se definían, pero locales de ensueño en la playa como Jockey Club, S’estanyol, etc, y también en mis primeros inviernos ibicencos, en La Alternativa, Wine Bar, etc… De ahí a Space como residente 5 años, en una época increíble cuando aún era con horario de mañana, sesiones de after míticas y después 3 años con Privilege, una discoteca que con 15mil personas bailando … no asusta pero casi… -Y explicamos cuales son tus proyectos actuales? Hace 3 años abrimos NINE Bar, un local en el centro de Ibiza, con una decoración muy moderna, un local para todo el año, y con una cuidada selección musical y carta de gintonics y bebidas premium, me apetecía mucho ofrecer este tipo de local a la gente de ibiza, y paralelamente empiezan las fiesta TEN Ibiza en Pacha, que han funcionado increíble desde el primer día! y de ahi a Lio, sin duda uno de los locales mas bonitos que he podido conocer en mi vida, y donde estamos este verano ofreciendo nuestra propuesta como promotores. Artistas como Edu Imbernon, Betoko, Cuartero, Manu Gonzalez, Los Suruba, Baum,

RAE, Hitch, han formado parte del cartel de nuestra promotora TEN, así como eventos realizados en ciudades como Cancun, Barcelona, Zurich, Tenerife, Sao Paulo, etc.. también soy muy feliz en mis sesiones de día, en locales como Santos, Cocobeach, Jockey Salinas, Nassau, o Beso Beach en Formentera, donde mi parte mas deep y funky sale a la luz. -Eres un defensor de la isla allá por donde vas, cuéntanos ¿cómo ves el panorama de la isla y en la parte que nos toca, su vertiente musical y de clubs? Excelente y desaprovechado en cierta manera, y la verdad que hay que trabajar más que nunca, para que los de fuera no nos coman, con mucho menos arte en ocasiones pero sí con muchas ganas y buen marketing en otras. La isla sigue siendo el mejor lugar del mundo, y vivir todo el año aquí te hace tener claro el porque quiero seguir aquí viviendo y disfrutando de sus maravillas. Antes se fijaban desde fuera en todo lo que pasaba aquí, ahora se importan formulas de fuera mucho menos autenticas , pero aun así. sabemos donde ir y que hacer para encontrar la ibiza que nos gusta. Y formentera… es nuestra gran aliada para recargar energías... -Desvélanos un secreto, ¿cuáles son tus lugares favoritos de la isla? Los secretos no se desvelan,, jejeje, Ahora en serio…hay muuuchos secretos pero recomiendo por ejemplo un paseo por el campo y comer en lugares típicos de carne o pescado, una playa como Cala d’Hort con Es Vedrá delante, o navegar a Formentera y ver una puesta desde el Molí de Sal. Estos están entre mis lugares favoritos.

ALEX MONTOYA

Alex Montoya, una de las grandes personalidades de la industria musical en nuestro país, impulsor de la profesionalización de la escena electrónica española. -¿Cómo fueron tus comienzos en este género musical?

AM- Comencé trabajando de relaciones públicas y dando

flyers en la calle allá por el año 1999 mientras iba a la universidad. Fue algo casual pero que después de 3 años me fue llevando por diferentes puestos de las empresas que gestionaban la noche madrileña (jefe de relaciones públicas, promotor, director artístico…). Creo que ha sido lo mejor en mi carrera, haber pasado por cada uno de los puestos y conocer el trabajo de todo el mundo. -¿Cual consideras que es tu principal aportación al panorama nacional?

AM- Como profesional del sector lo que intento es aprender cada día de los mejores (colegas, libros, artistas), ser honesto y serio con mi trabajo. Lamentablemente esta industria está muy desprofesionalizada y mi intención es siempre mostrar a mis colegas ingleses que en España estamos a un buen nivel. Soy bastante radical, si alguien hace algo que creo que no es bueno para esta industria cierro cualquier tipo de colaboración conmigo y mis artistas y si alguien plantea algo bueno puede contar con todos nosotros de manera desinteresada (eventos benéficos, proyectos solidarios, masterclass siempre gratuitas…).

-Uno de los pasos claves en tu carrera profesional es el salto a nuestra isla. ¿Cuantos años llevas aquí y que haces actualmente en Ibiza?

AM- Empecé a venir a Ibiza hace 12 años y me quedé

a vivir hace 5. Actualmente ocuparme personalmente de los artistas que represento (marketing, promoción, fechas…). Por otra parte trabajo en Blue Marlin Ibiza como talent buyer junto a los directores del club (un trabajo que realmente me encanta) y soy promotor de Reverse Ibiza y socio en la revista Dj Mag Spain.

-¿Como se lleva ser manager, agencia de booking y promotor? ¿Cual es la clave para gestionar tantos frentes con éxito?

AM- Realmente sin pasión por este trabajo seria imposible.

Es un trabajo 24/7. La única manera posible la he ido aprendiendo después de muchos años. Planificar el año para que los artistas (esos seres creativos) no se inventen nuevos proyectos cada minuto y te vuelvan loco. Ser claro y transparente con los artistas. Tener muy buena relación con promotores y no mentirles (asesorarles musicalmente según el tipo de sala que gestionen) y sobre todo rodearme de un buen equipo para poder trabajar (solo es imposible).

-Háblanos de tus representados y de lo que aportas a sus carreras.

AM- Actualmente hago el management de Cristian

Varela , Chus + Ceballos, Dosem, Mendo, Technasia, UNER. Tengo una manera muy particular de trabajar, planificamos a largo plazo el calendario del año y nos preocupamos de tener una bonita historia que contar con nuestros seguidores. Además de esto nos preocupamos de la promoción y marketing de cada evento para que cada fiesta sea un éxito. Tenemos un timeline bien definido, donde debemos estar y donde no, y así sabemos los objetivos que debemos cumplir tanto ellos por su parte como mi equipo y yo por la nuestra. -Eres una persona muy inquieta, siempre con nuevos e interesantes proyectos, ¿nos puedes avanzar alguno?

AM- Ahora mismo tenemos varias ideas interesantes

en la cabeza, desde crear una agencia de prensa especializada en Ibiza , un evento benéfico para recaudar fondos para la isla o una academia de producción. -¿Qué le falta y qué le sobra a la música electrónica en nuestro país?

AM- Le sobra mucho pirata y le falta mucho apoyo de

instituciones. Los políticos deben entender que el joven de hoy es lo que escucha y es como vive. La música electrónica no hace mal a nadie y deberíamos aprender de otros países más desarrollados en lugar de invertir en toros y festejos que realmente atentan contra la naturaleza. -¿Cómo ves el futuro de la escena ibicenca?

AM- El otro día leí un gran artículo llamado “la gran mentira

de Junio” que resume perfectamente lo que está pasando. Vemos mucha más gente en la isla pero los eventos están a medio gas, al igual que muchos negocios. Hay una fiebre de realizar afters en chiringuitos sin licencia o beach clubs que no tienen esta actividad registrada y la gente empieza a dejar de pagar 50 euros por ir a una sala. Hemos pasado de 5/6 eventos underground en 2011 (Cocoon, Carl Cox, Vagabundos, DC10...) a tener 2/3 por noche. Mayor oferta, menor demanda y los promotores regalando todo para que la gente vaya y se haga una foto con la sala llena. Si esto sigue preveo marcas apareciendo y desapareciendo cada año. De lo que estoy contento es que haya varios promotores españoles en la isla y que sigamos trabajando a buen nivel.

-What abaut your beginning in this musical genre?

-Let’s talking about your artists and what you bring to their careers.

AM- I started working as a public relation giving flyers on the street

AM- I’m currently handling the management of Cristian Varela, Chus+Ceballos, Dosem, Mendo, Technasia, UNER. I have a unique perspective of working, planning the calendar of the year for the long term. We are concerned with our followers and how to tell them a nice story. We also manage the promotion and marketing of each event and how it will be a successfully party. We have a defined timeline, where we are supposed to be and where not. So we know how to reach our goals as well as them and my team by our side.

It was a coincidence that after 3 years this work has led me in different companies that managed the Madrid night-time (head of public relation, promoter, artistic director...). I think it was the best for my career passing throw every of these works and being familiar with the job of everyone. -What do you consider to be your main contribution to the national environment ?

AM- As professional of this sector, I’m trying to improve my skills

day by day learning from the best ones (colleagues, books, artists), be honest and take my job seriously. Unfortunately this industry is too unbusinesslike and I have the intention of showing my English colleagues that Spain has a great level. I’m quite radical. If I see that someone does something wrong in this industry, I close every kind of collaboration. If someone gives something good, he can count on us (charity events or projects, free masterclasses…) -One of the key steps during your professional career is the leap to our island. How long have you been here and what are you recently doing in ibiza?

AM- I started traveling Ibiza 12 years ago and I left to live since 5

years. I currently represent my artists (marketing, promotions, lines up...). On the other hand I work for Blue Marlin Ibiza as talent a buyer together with the Directors of the club (a job that I love). I am the promoter of Reverse Ibiza and shareholder of the magazine Dj Mag Spain. -How is it being a manager, booking agency and a promoter? Which is the key to handle such huge successfully fronts?

AM- In my opinion this job would be impossible without passion. Is a

job 24/7. I learnt the way of handling it after years. Planning all the year for the artists not to invent new projects each moment making you crazy. You have to be clear and transparent with them. Also maintain good relationship with promoters and don’t lie to them (provide the correct information they need on this matter about music according to the type of club they manage), and especially building a great team to be able to work (only if possible).

-You are a restless person, always with new interesting projects. Can you anticipate anything about them?

AM- We have currently several ideas swimming around our heads:

from the creation of a specialized press agency here in Ibiza, a charity event to raise money for this Island, to a production academy. -What’s missing and what’s a surplus in electronic music in our country? AM- It’s plenty of hackers and it needs more supports from the institutions. Politicians have to understand that young people of today are what they listen. This is their lifestyle. The electronic music is not the guilty and we have to learn from other developed countries instead of investing in bullfights and other celebration that threaten the nature. -How do you see the future of the Ibiza scene?

AM- I was reading an article the other day titled “The big lie of Ibiza in

June” that perfectly resumes what is happening. You can see more people in the Island but a lack of energy in the events, the same for many businesses. There is also impatience for organizing after parties and beach-bars without license, or beach clubs which activity is not registered and people stop paying 50 euros for a club. We passed from 5/6 events underground in 2011 (Cocoon, Carl Cox, Vagabundos, DC10…) to 2/3 per night. Thanks to an increased supply against a lower demand, the promoters are giving anything for free,so people could go and make a picture in a full club. If this continues, I anticipate that most of labels will disappear and other ones will emerge every year. What makes me happy is that there are several Spanish promoters all over the island and we are going to keep this good level of job.
