GOODBYE SUMMER

Llevamos todo el año esperando la llegada del verano y cuando no te has dado ni cuenta, Septiembre se presenta de repente para avisarnos de que lo bueno se termina. Las discotecas preparan la explosión de los “closings”, fiestas que todo seguidor y apasionado de la música electrónica no puede perderse. En las playas de la isla el ambiente empieza ya a ser mucho más relajado. El calor no agobia tanto, es más fácil encontrar un hueco, va disminuyendo el tráfico... Y es que durante el verano la isla es un caos dentro de su orden. Ibiza es diferente y está llena de contrastes: por un lado, tan solo hace falta un coche, provisiones de líquidos, algo para comer y disfrutar de cualquier rincón solitario para dejar atrás el estrés de todo el año. Otros vienen básicamente a pegarse un fiestón al estilo “Resacón en Las Vegas”, unas vacaciones inmemorables. Por otro lado, podemos ver a celebridades, jeques que alquilan una sola planta de uno de los hoteles más lujosos de la isla o gente que en una noche se gasta decenas de miles de euros en un restaurante. Para gustos, digo, para bolsillos, colores. Aquí cada cual disfruta de la isla blanca como quiere, pero por favor, con sentido común y respetando el entorno, las personas y la naturaleza. Diviértete, explora, prueba, siente y emociónate al rememorar tu paso por esta hermosa isla. Sentirás la necesidad de volver. Porque Ibiza es un mundo aparte que te marca solo si sabes cómo aprovechar todas sus posibilidades. ¡Hay una Ibiza para cada uno de nosotros! During the winter time we look forward the summer arrival. Suddenly you realize September is here and it means summer is going to end. Discos get ready for the closing’s explosion. If you are an electronic music passionate you cannot miss anyone of them. Meantime, the atmosphere on the beaches starts to be calmer. Heat is not as hard as in August. It is easier to find a place on the sand, traffic is less stressful….Because during summer time the islands is chaotic but inside its own order. Ibiza is different and it is full of contrasts: You only need a car, some liquids and food and get lost in a lonely spot to leave away the stress of the routine. Some other people come basically to party like the guys from Hangover film. On the other hand, we can see celebrities, multimillionaires that rent a single floor of one of the most luxury hotels in the island, or people who spend tens of thousands Euros in a restaurant in one night. There are fancies, I mean, pockets, for every kind of people. Here everyone enjoys the island as they want, but please, enjoy with common sense and respect for the environment, the people and the nature. Have fun, explore, try, feel and be excited when you remind your stay in this beautiful island. You will feel you must come back. Because Ibiza is an aside world that creates something special inside your mind if you know how to enjoy all its possibilities. There is an island for every one of us! ras una jornada embaucados por alguna de tantas hermosas playas, no hay mejor forma de acabar el día (o empezar la noche) que salir a tomar “la fresca” del Mediterráneo por las calles de Ibiza. Aunque entre turistas y el ruido de los coches, lo mejor es dejar atrás la activa vida nocturna del centro de Vila y La Marina para dedicarle tiempo y emociones al más representativo de los monumentos de la ciudad, Dalt Vila. El imponente recinto amurallado de la época renacentista nos ofrece una visión de la historia de la ciudad pero también de su evolución. Un lugar en el que apreciar la mezcla de diferentes movimientos culturales: La casa de la Curia (XIII), la catedral de origen gótico (s. XIV), restaurada en el siglo XVIII en un estilo más barroco o la iglesia como la de Santo Domingo puramente barroca (s. XVI-XVII). Al atravesar el Portal de Ses Taules desde el mercado viejo entramos en una dimensión diferente. Un ambiente en el que el silencio se convierte poco a poco en el protagonista. Se va imponiendo cada vez que avanzamos por las estrechas calles hacia las partes más altas, no sin antes pasar por los baluartes/miradores en los que parar no solo para tomar un recuerdo fotográfico sino para tomar aire y dejar la mente llevar por la historia de Dalt Vila. Uno de los mejores miradores nocturnos es el baluarte de Santa Llúcia, donde los restaurados cañones siguen en su posición de defensa y en el que contemplar una buena panorámica del casco antiguo, La Marina y el puerto de Botafoch. De Dalt Vila sorprende la espectacular conservación del recinto, de sus calles de adoquines, los dos túneles que nos permiten subir rápidamente hasta la catedral, y la arquitectura tradicional. Paredes blancas, ventanales de madera o las flores y plantas que embellecen los balcones. Y por la noche, en pleno verano, pocos son los pasos que escuchamos en este laberinto de callejuelas. Y es que no hace falta irse tan lejos, ni explorar las calas más recónditas para hallar un rincón en el que despejar la mente y encontrar la paz que veníamos buscando en esta isla blanca.

e are sure you are delighted spending the day time in one of the beautiful beaches of Ibiza. In order to end a fabulous day (or start the night life) we recommend you to go out and enjoy the freshness of the Mediterranean around Ibiza’ streets. Avoid crowded places of cars noise and tourists, the active night life of the city centre and La Marina. You should dedicate some time and emotions to the most representative monument of the town, Dalt Vila. The impressive walled area from the Renaissance age offers a vision of the town’s history and evolution. This is a place for appreciating th e mixture of different cultural movements: The Curia’s house (XIII), the Cathedral, original from the Gothic age (XIV) and renovated into a baroque style during the XVIII century. Crossing the Portal de Ses Taules from the Old Market means we enter into a different dimension. It is an atmosphere where silence becomes slowly the main character. It imposes its force any time we advance on our way through the small streets to the highest parts of the Old Town.

Before it is a must to pass by the bulwarks or view points where we can take a photo as souvenir but for taking a breath and leave our mind fly away Dalt Vila’s history. One of the best view points during the night time is Santa Llúcia. We find restored cannons which are still in a defense position. Contemplate a good panoramic view of the Old City Centre, La Marina and the port of Botafoch. Dalt Vila suprises because of its extraordinary conservation, paving stone streets, two tunnels that allow us to get up to the cathedral and the traditional architecture. White walls, wood windows or flowers and plants that a make beauty the balconies. During the evening and night time in summer, we can hear just a few steps in this labyrinth of little streets. It is not necessary to go far or explore the most hidden beaches to find a spot to clear up our minds and get the peace we are looking for in the White Island.

use nació en el Este de Londres hace 6 años, ¿cómo comenzó todo?

-Fuse empezó como un fiesta after semanal en Brick Lane, en Shoreditch. La fiesta empezaba a las 11 de la mañana y duraba 12 horas. Fueron días de locura y de mucha diversión. ¿Cuáles han sido los momentos más importantes para Fuse? -Diría que el lanzamiento de nuestros sellos así como de nuestra música ha alcanzado en estos momentos a muchos más seguidores que en las fiestas. El sonido Fuse y nuestros artistas se han internacionalizado gracias a los sellos. ¿Cuándo se creó realmente del sello Fuse London y cuál fue el primer lanzamiento? -Empezamos en 2011 con mi EP Sagamore. Yo lo había hecho ya y estuve pinchándolo durante casi un año. ¿Cuál es la diferencia entre FUSE Londres y INFUSE? -FUSE London comenzó como una plataforma para los deejays de Fuse que pinchaban en la fiesta para dar a conocer la música. Seb Zito y yo estábamos recibiendo tantísima música de gente de fuera del equipo Fuse, que inspirados por nuestro sonido y los eventos, decidimos iniciar el estilo Infuse para promocionar este tipo de música.

U SE was born in East London about 6 years, how did it all begin?

-Fuse started as a weekly Sunday after-party on Brick Lane in Shoreditch, the party would begin at 11am and go on for about 12 hours. Crazy days and a lot of fun! What have been the most far-reaching moments for Fuse? -I would say launching our labels as our music has now reached so many more people than the parties ever could. The Fuse sound and our artists have gone global thanks to the labels. When did you actually start the Fuse London label and what has been the very first release? -We started in 2011 with my Sagamore EP, I had already made it and been playing it for over a year. What is the difference between FUSE London and INFUSE? -Fuse London started as a platform for the Fuse DJs who played at the party to release music. Seb Zito & I were receiving so much music from people outside the Fuse crew, inspired by our sound and the events, that we decided to start Infuse to release this music.

¿Cómo llegó FUSE a tener una residencia en verano en Sankeys Ibiza? ¿Hay alguna diferencia entre las fiestas de Londres y de Ibiza además de la localización?

How did FUSE end up in Ibiza for its summer residency at Sankeys Ibiza? Is there any difference between the London and Ibiza parties besides the location?

-Las primeras fiestas de Ibiza fueron en 2009, en Delano. De ahí pasamos a pinchar en lo que era antes Ushuaia. Estuvimos una vez en una fiesta del DC10 y más tarde y durante el mismo verano, Sankeys se convirtió en nuestra casa. El ambiente y la energía son muy similares a las de Londres ya que pinchan los mismos deejays. FUSE colabora por primera vez con Next Wave y diferentes promotores, dando la posibilidad de tener una segunda pista. ¿Cómo surgió esta colaboración y qué podremos ver de esto en el futuro?

-We started doing parties in Ibiza in 2009 at Delano, from there we went to the old Ushuaia, we did one party at DC10 in 2011 and later that summer at Sankeys became our home. The vibe and energy are very similar from London to Ibiza as it’s all the same DJs playing. FUSE for the first time collaborates with Next Wave and different local promoters giving the possibility to host a second floor. How came the collaboration with Next Wave and what can we expect of it in the future?

-Era algo bueno. Ellos tienen unos valores similares a los nuestros, tenía sentido. Hicimos una fiesta antes de la temporada con Father & Sons como parte de la serie “Fuses meets…” (Fuse conoce a…). No estoy seguro de lo que nos espera en el futuro pero definitivamente va a ser algo divertido que hacer en Ibiza.

-It felt right to collaborate with Next Wave, they have similar values to us so it kind of made sense. We did a party earlier in the season with Father & Sons also as part of the ‘Fuse meets..’ series. Not sure what the future holds for this but it is definitely been fun to do in Ibiza.

¿Cuáles son vuestros planes de futuro? ¿Qué podemos esperar para la temporada de invierno? ¿Estará FUSE en alguno de los eventos musicales como BPM, WMC o ADE? -Estamos considerando nuestras opciones para los grandes festivales aunque no hay nada confirmado todavía. En invierno nos concentramos en nuestros eventos Village Underground en Londres. También tenemos un espectáculo en el Mint Club de Leeds en Octubre del que tengo muy buenas expectativas.

What are your future plans, what can we expect for the Winter Season? Will FUSE be attending any of the musical happenings such as BPM, WMC or ADE? -We are considering our options for the big festivals although nothing is confirmed yet. Winter is where we focus on our Village Underground events in London. We also have a Fuse showcase at Mint Club in Leeds in October which I’m really excited about!

You will feel like in Napoles when you take a bite from the pizza base topped by a wide variety of a fresh ingredients selection.

riel Sosa llegó a Ibiza en el año 2007 para comenzar a meterse de lleno en la esencia de la isla, la música electrónica. Allá por el año 2008 conoce a los directores de la ahora prestigiosa Ibiza Global Radio (Anna Tur, David Moreno, Tony Moreno) y se forja una amistad basada en el buen gusto por la música, tomándolos como unos de sus referentes más cercanos de la isla. Con el paso de los años fue embarcándose en un sueño que cada día iba creciendo. Pasados varios años, su carrera se fue afianzando hasta conseguir convertirse en unos de los deejays habituales de Ibiza Global Radio, tanto en en el programa Deepfusion 124 bpm del maestro del Deep , Miguel Garji, pasando por el programa Secuencias de Tony Moreno así como en el famoso Ibiza Dance, dirigido por el gran David Moreno. Así llega a tocar con Andrew Grant, residente del mítico club DC10, y también crear su propia fiesta llamada You Decide, que en su primera edición contó con gran parte de la familia de Ibiza Global Radio y fue un éxito tota. Cuenta con actuaciones dentro y fuera de España, Alemania, Austria o Argentina entre otros países. En la actualidad ha conseguido su primera gran residencia dentro de la isla: nada mas y nada menos que en el conocido hotel Atzaró, lugar donde se celebra cada verano la Fashion Week, evento que superó las 2.000 personas en su ultima edición. Para cerrar esta temporada, compartirá cabina con el ya nombrado Andrew Grant y Tucillo, dos grandes artistas de la escena underground en el Hostal La Sabina de Formentera, dentro de la famosa fiesta Sunset Emotions!

INTERVIEW ¿Cuál fue el proceso para desarrollar el álbum “Balearica 2014”? Habladnos de él mismo y de cuál es vuestra pista favorita. Balearica es nuestro proyecto de verano donde mostramos nuestro lado mas musical, orgánico y sensible. Nuestro principal objetivo es mostrarle al mundo los ritmos y melodías que la isla de Ibiza nos inspira cada año. un reflejo de las vivencias que la gente de todo el mundo experimenta cuando vienen a la isla. Todo gira alrededor de la cultura mediterránea, todo esta unido, el arte, la gastronomía y la música. Todos y cada uno de los tracks son especiales, han sido seleccionados con mucho cariño pero si tuviéramos que elegir solo uno tendría que ser ’Soledad’, una colaboración con nuestro amigo el productor italiano Leonardo Gonnelli, un gran talento a tener muy en cuenta en los próximos años. ‘Soledad’ se ha convertido en muy poco tiempo en uno de los tracks mas escuchados de la isla, con el apoyo de grandes artistas como Carl Cox, a quien se lo entregamos en mano en Miami durante el wmc 2014 y que no ha parado de tocar desde entonces. Adam Beyer, Joseph Capriati, Solomun, Nic Fanciulli, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Nicole Moudaber, Roger Sanchez o Mark Knight por nombrar algunos lo están apoyando cada día en sus sets. Estamos muy contentos. What was the process behind constructing your “Balearica 2014” album? Talk about the record and tell us what is your favorite track on it? Balearica is a summer project where we deliver the most musical, organic and sensitive side of us. The main goal is to spread the word about the rhythms and melodies that Ibiza inspires us every year, a reflection of the experiences that people around the world lives when they come to the island. Everything in our country turns around the Mediterranean culture, are all connected, art, food and music. Every single tracks in the compilation are special, they all have been selected with love, but if we had to choose only one, that will be ‘Soledad’, a collaboration with our dear friend the Italian producer Leonardo Gonnelli, a real talent to look forward in the next years. ‘Soledad’ has become in no time one of the most rated tracks in Ibiza, with the support of artists like Carl Cox, who received the track exclusively in Miami during WMC 2014 and has not stopped to play it since. Adam Beyer, Joseph Capriati, Solomun, Nic Fanciulli, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Nicole Moudaber, Mark Knight and Roger Sanchez to name but a few, are supporting the track in their sets. We are extremely happy.

Las fiestas de verano en Ibiza son cada año más grandes, ¿cómo han funcionado vuestros eventos? Este año hemos tenido la oportunidad de tocar por primera vez en los míticos domingos de Blue Marlin y ha sido toda una revelación, hemos encontrado un lugar perfecto para nosotros donde la energía de la gente y la magia del lugar nos han enganchado. Ibiza hay que vivirla de muchas maneras y una de ellas es sin duda con las fiestas durante el día y por supuesto los sunsets, Blue Marlin es el sitio ideal para vivir una experiencia 100% Balearica! El pasado 17 de Agosto hicimos el 10 aniversario de Blue Marlin y fue una fiesta increíble donde estuvimos tocando por 5 horas y media, la gente no nos dejaba ir y estábamos completamente entregados a la euforia de una celebración tan importante. lo mas divertido? la cantidad de botellas de champagne que volaban por todas partes y otras tantas que se emplearon para duchar a los acalorados en la pista! fue una locura la verdad! También hicimos el aniversario de Café Ole en Space, otro de los grandes templos de la noche ibicenca. Ibiza’s summer parties get bigger and bigger each year, what have your events been like? This year we had the opportunity to play for the firWst time at the famous beach club Blue Marlin on Sundays and it has been a revelation, we found a perfect place for us where the energy of the people and the magic of the place have been hooked us instead. Ibiza is about living in many ways and one of them is certainly the day parties and of course the sunsets, Blue Marlin is the perfect place to experiment a complete Balearic experience! On August 17 we did the 10th anniversary of Blue Marlin and was an amazing party where we played for over 5 hours, people would not let us go and we were completely devoted to the euphoria of such an important celebration. the most fun? the number of bottles of champagne flying everywhere and many others that were used to shower the overheated on the dance floor ! Truth was crazy! We also did the anniversary of Cafe Ole at Space, another of the great temples of the Ibiza nights.

tenéis un estilo único dentro del sonido tech-house y tribal, que es obviamente él por que os habéis hecho un nombre en el sector. ¿Habéis pensado alguna vez experimentar con otros géneros? Nuestro sonido no ha parado de evolucionar con los años, pero si que es cierto que mantenemos nuestra esencia y ese toque ibérico que nos caracteriza donde la percusión y el ritmo son elementos inseparables de nuestro estilo. Es importante tener una identidad y ser fiel a tus principios. Nos consideramos amantes de la música y nos gustan muchos estilos, es algo que se puede ver en nuestros sets donde nos movemos desde el deep house al techno con mucha facilidad. Pero esta bien que nos preguntéis eso porque en este momento estamos en plena creación de nuestro primer album de artista donde estamos experimentando con nuevos sonidos, estamos exprimiendo nuestras cabezas para ofrecer a nuestros fans una nueva visión de Chus & Ceballos.

You guys have a very unique tech-house and tribal sounds style, which is obviously why you’ve created a recognized name for yourselves, would you ever consider shifting away from that sound to experiment with other genres? Our sound has continued to evolve over the years, but is a fact that we maintain our essence and the Iberican touch that identifies us, where percussion and rhythm are inseparable elements of our style (Ying Yang). It is important to have an identity and to be true to your principles. We consider ourselves music lovers and we like different styles, it’s something you can see on our sets where we move from deep house to techno easily. So this question if we like to experiment comes to the right time because after many years of singles and remixes, we are working on our very first artist album, where we are exploring new sounds and squeezing our heads to give our fans a new vision of Chus & Ceballos.

Os encantan los maratones, ¿podríais compartir algunos consejos sobre cómo afrontarlos? Para poder hacer un marathon set lo primero es conocer muy bien el club y el público, tienes que estar cómodo y confortable con tu audiencia, ellos son quienes marcan el ritmo de la sesión. Después conocer muy bien tu música, estar preparado para poder poner aquel track concreto en aquel momento especial. Por supuesto, no tener prisa, las mezclas y las transiciones tienen que ser bien medidas, la selección musical tienen que estar muy bien elegida, todo perfectamente encajado para poder disfrutar durante tantas horas. Luego cosas básicas como haber descansado bien, estar en forma ayuda mucho y ser comedido con el alcohol, empezar lentamente y dosificar muy bien los shoots. (lol) en definitiva, tener la cabeza fresca para que el viaje a través de la música sea lo mas largo y placentero posible. You guys love marathon sets, could you share some tips on how to face it? To make a marathon set happens the more important thing is to know very well the club and the crowd, you have to feel comfortable and confidence with your audience, they are the ones who set the pace of the set. Second thing is to know very well your music and be prepared to put that particular track in that special moment to keep the attention and the excitement of your crowd, and of course, no hurries, mix downs and transitions have to be smooth, the musical selection must be well chosen and perfectly fitted and connected to enjoy for many hours. It’s essential to be well rested, being fit helps a lot since is a big physical effort and be careful with the alcohol, start slowly and keep the ‘shoots’ for the end (lol) or you won’t last much. So keep it fresh for the journey through the music be as long and enjoyable as possible.

¿Cuáles son vuestros planes para los próximos meses? Como os hemos mencionado antes, estamos trabajando en nuestro primer álbum de artista, llevamos mas de 15 años juntos remezclando artistas de todo tipo y publicando singles tanto en nuestro sello Stereo Productions como en otros labels que nos gustan pero creemos que ya ha llegado la hora de sentarse durante varios meses para trabajar en algo muy personal como es la elaboración de un álbum. Para ellos lo hemos enfocado desde varios puntos, hemos querido recuperar algunos clásicos de nuestro catalogo reviviéndolos con nuevas versiones, otros tracks son completamente originales y algunos son versiones de canciones que nos marcaron en nuestros comienzos y que nos inspiraron. También hay varios vocales, algo que echamos en falta hoy en día en la música electrónica, la gente se ha olvidado de las canciones y de sus mensajes y son muy importantes. Estamos en pleno proceso de finalización por tanto esperamos poder presentarlo antes de final de año. Gracias por tenernos con vosotros! nos vemos el año que viene!

What are your plans for the coming months? As we mentioned before, we are working on our first artist album, we’ve been remixing artists of all kinds and publishing singles in our own label Stereo Productions and other top labels for over 15 years but we strongly feel, that is about time to work on something very personal as the making of an album. We have approached it from several points, we wanted to remake some of our classics, bringing them back to live with new versions, other tracks are completely originals and some others are new versions of songs that marked our career. There are also several vocals, something we are missing these days on electronic underground music, some people have forgotten the powerful of a song and the message. After many months we are in the process of finalizing it so we hope to present our new baby before the end of the year. Thanks for having us, see you all next year!

En las grandes ciudades, hace semanas que abrigos, chaquetas y guantes pueblan los escaparates, sin embargo, aquí, todavía podemos disfrutar la temporada estival por mucho tiempo. THE HISTORY OF HOUSE MUSIC Hola a todos. En este último número de septiembre hablaré de la historia de la música house, género que, en mi opinión, es la esencia de la música electrónica junto con el techno de detroit. El house se originó en la escena underground de la ciudad de Chicago a comienzos de los años 80, sin un claro propósito comercial. Como consecuencia, los discos del primer house eran más largos y conceptuales que la música habitualmente programada en la radio comercial.

Hi everybody. For this last month I´ll talk about the history of house music, genre that, in my opinion, is the essence of electronic music along with the Detroit Techno. House music began in the Chicago underground scene in the early 80`s, without any commercial purpose. As a result the first house records were longer and more conceptual than the music played in the commercial radio.

Para la creación de este tipo de canciones, los productores utilizaban sintetizadores analógicos y secuenciadores, y tomaban elementos de otras piezas gracias al sampling, combinando todo ello con instrumentos tradicionales, así como con percusiones y vocales soulful. Este género desciende de la música disco, pero añadiendo nuevos sintes y cajas de ritmos.

To make this kind of songs, the producers used analogic synths and sequencers, and took elements from other pieces using sampling, combining all of it with traditional instruments, and drums and soulful vocals as well. The genre descends from disco music, but adding new synths and beat boxes.

Se hizo popular en la primera mitad de los ochenta, en discotecas orientadas hacia el público afroamericano, latino y homosexual de Chicago, y más adelante en Nueva York y Detroit. Por entonces, dos clubes pasaron a la historia como referentes del género; el Warehouse en Chicago y The Paradise Garage en Nueva York. El Warehouse abrió sus puertas en 1977 y su Dj residente fue el recientemente fallecido Frankie Knuckles, pionero de ese nuevo sonido característico. Se dice que cuando el público llegaba a las tiendas de discos empezó a solicitar “la música del warehouse”, abreviándose finalmente a música house. La cabina de The Paradise Garage fue inaugurada por Larry Levan, donde imperaban los estilos Disco, R’n’B y Black Dance. The genre became popular in the mid 80´s, in clubs headed for Afro-American, Latin and homosexual public in Chicago, and later in New York and Detroit. By then, two clubs became legendary in the history of house genre; the Warehouse in Chicago and The Paradise Garden in New York. The Warehouse opened its doors in 1977 and its resident Dj was the recently deceased Frankie Knuckles, pioneer of that new characteristic sound. Some people say that when the audience was at the record store began to ask for “the Warehouse music”, well known finally as just house music. The Dj booth of The Paradise Garage was running by Larry Levan, where disco, R´n B and black dance where the styles of the moment.

El primer EP encuadrado dentro del género es “On and On”, producido en 1984 por el DJ de Chicago Jesse Saunders y coescrita por Vince Lawrence, que contiene los elementos básicos del primer sonido house; la línea de bajo de la 303 y ligeras vocales. Esta canción es para muchos el primer disco de la historia del house, siendo los sellos discográficos más significativos del momento DJ International Records y Trax Records. La popularidad del género creció gracias a que estos discos eran pinchados por DJs como Ron Hardy y Lil Louis, se vendían en tiendas como State Street Records y Gramaphone, y eran reproducidos en populares shows de radio como Hot Mix 5, de la emisora WBMX-FM. El house llega a Europa en los años 80 a través del Reino Unido, teniendo gran repercusión en las listas de ventas inglesas. A principios de los 90, la música techno le comió terreno en la noche electrónica. Con la pérdida de popularidad, el house, que ya poco tenía que ver con lo que fue en sus orígenes, entró en una nueva etapa. Fue la vuelta al comienzo lo que lo hizo resurgir. Los nuevos DJs y productores recuperaron su lado más underground e innovador. Daft Punk es uno de los grupos más representativos de esta nueva época junto a Deep Dish, Green Velvet y DJs como Danny Tenaglia, Armand Van Helden, Junior Vasquez, Gene Ferris, Derrick Carter o DJ Sneak entre otros.

Cómo has visto la temporada 2014?

-¡Ha sido una temporada estupenda! Quizás no lo ha sido tanto en cuanto a asistencia pero puedes empezar a ver los resultados de la transformación de la isla durante los últimos años. Ibiza es mucho más abierta ahora a diferentes géneros de música electrónica; la fragmentación del mercado y el crecimiento de un público con más poder adquisitivo hace que los promotores sean más originales y organicen eventos de más calidad. ¡El cambio es bueno! ¿Cómo ha sido el verano para ti? Te hemos visto pinchando en buenas fiestas y estás empezando a ser uno de los artistas más interesantes de Ibiza… -¡Me encanta el verano! Para un deejay significa tiempo de festivales, muchas fiestas al aire libre, mucha gente feliz de estar de vacaciones y muchas chicas en bikini. Lo único menos atractivo del verano es estar viajando de forma intensa, menos tiempo para disfrutar de la familia, pero ser deejay creo que es el mejor trabajo del mundo, no me puedo quejar. Es el precio que hay que pagar. Has tenido una residencia mensual en Blue Marlin pero también has conseguido pinchar en El Row, Ants, We Love, Reverse, Lio, etc. ¿Tienes que adaptar tus sets a cada lugar?

-Blue Marlin Ibiza tiene un público más VIP o una audiencia de élite. Ellos han ido construyendo este perfil de la nada desde hace 10 años y con éxito. Pero se han dado cuenta de que en los últimos años su público de base ya no se siente atraído por la música electrónica comercial como EDM y busca algo más underground y alternativo. Empecé pinchando para ellos el pasado año durante los eventos de los domingos y fue muy bien. Entonces decidieron que este año iban a apostar por el siguiente nivel: reservar solo actuaciones underground durante todo el verano con Uner, Steve Lawler Tiefschwarz, Uto Karem, Chus & Ceballos, Luna City Express, Dosem, etc. Están

pasando por su mejor momento. Sus clientes gastan más, tienen mejor reconocimiento más asiduos… Nombra alguno de los eventos de élite de Ibiza, sin contar Blue Marlin que programen buena música durante todo el fin de semana sin tener a los deejays comerciales. Además son gente muy buena para trabajar. ¡Sus eventos en domingo son lo más!. Mientras pincho un poco menos de techno como el que pincho en Reverse o We Love por ejemplo, el estilo Technasia, el ambiente y la energía son siempre los mismos. Nunca me gustó que me etiquetaran con ese género en particular. Si, me encanta pinchar techno, pero también soy capaz de hacer los mismos sets explosivos con house o tech-house. No pincho necesariamente el mismo tipo de música en Berghain que en Blue Marlin, pero es Technasia... ¡o lo tomas o lo dejas! El público parece que los disfruta, en todos los diferentes aspectos o estilos de mi música. ¿Por qué me debo molestar en pinchar siempre la misma jodida música en todos los lugares? Nunca me han gustado estos deejays que pinchan su sonido más espectacular desde el principio al final del set, durante todo el año, sin considerar al público que tiene frente a él, porque no tienen ningún compromiso con ellos, el de preservar su “integridad artística”. ¿Qué lugares prefieres de la isla? Para comer, el Fish Shack es uno de mis favoritos. Me encantan los desayunos del Blue Marlin Marina que se sirven hasta las 18h. Es bastante útil a veces en Ibiza. Para salir de fiesta, Space se mantiene, en mi opinión, como una de las discotecas top del mundo y es definitivamente mi primera opción en la isla.

¿Cuál ha sido tu relación con Reverse? ¿Qué opinas de Reverse Ibiza en el Vista club? Reverse es una de las mejores fiestas Techno de Madrid, y de España probablemente, celebrada cada viernes en la Sala Riviera. Han tenido muchos nombres conocidos de la escena Techno como Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Sven Vath, Ben Klock, Maceo Plex, Dub Fire, solo por nombrar a algunos. He estado pinchando para los chicos durante un tiempo ahora, algo como dos años. Conectamos muy bien desde el principio, en cuanto a música y trabajo. Cuando me contaron que empezaban una nueva aventura en Ibiza les dije: “Me apunto colegas!”. Estás trabajando un nuevo concepto que está siendo muy popular: Technasia B2B UNER. ¿Cómo surge esta idea? B2B tiene una dinámica muy especial. Es diferente a cuando pinchas solo. UNER y yo somos amigos desde hace tiempo. Compartimos la misma agencia de reservas y gestión (Alex Montoya). Pinchamos diferentes estilos pero de una forma similar. Intentamos el primer B2B en mi fiesta de cumpleaños en Miami el pasado Marzo. La combinación de los dos estilos fue genial y la conexión fue muy natural. ¡Quizás sea porque los dos estamos calvos!

INTERVIEW What do you think about Ibiza 2014? -Great one! Maybe not in terms of overall frequentation, but you can really start to see the results of the mutation the island has been going though these last few years. Ibiza is much more open to all different electronic genre than ever; fragmentation of the market and growing wealthy customer base pushes promoters to be more original and qualitative with their events. Change is good! How has summer been for you? We saw you playing in really good gigs and you are starting to be one of the most interesting artists in Ibiza... -I love summer! For DJs it means, festival time, lots of outdoor parties, lots of people happy to be on holiday and lotsa chicks in bikini! The only downside of being of it is that summer means intensive travelling, i.e less time to actually be enjoying time with my family… but being a DJ is I think the best job in the world, so let’s no complain, that is a small price to pay. You played in a monthly residency at Blue Marlin but you also managed to play at El Row, Ants, We Love, Reverse, Lio.... Do you have to adapt your sets for each place? -Blue Marlin Ibiza has indeed a more VIP/elite targeted audience. They’ve been building it from scratch with success for 10 years. But they have come to realize the last few years that their customer base is actually not more attracted to the commercial electronic music sound, like EDM, than to the underground stuffs. I started playing for them last year on their Sunday event and it went really good. So they decided this year to push it to the next level by booking only underground acts all summer long, Uner, Steve Lawler, Tiefschwarz, Uto Karem, Chus & Ceballos, Luna City Express, Dosem and so on. No EDM or commercial bullshit at all. And it’s starting to pay-off for them big time. Their customers spend more, they’re getting better recognition, more frequentation, etc… Name me any of these Ibiza elite venue, aside Blue Marlin, that actually do program cool music all week long, without any crappy commercial DJs. And they are above all very lovely people to work with. Their Sunday events are off the hook, and while I’d play a little bit less techno than what I usually play at Reverse or We Love for example, the Technasia style, the vibe and the energy remains the same. I actually never liked to be tagged with a particular genre. Yes I love to play Techno, but I’m also able to do the same exploding sets with house or tech-house sets. I don’t necessarily play the same kind of music at Berghain than at Blue Marlin, but that’s Technasia, take it or leave it. The audience seems to enjoy

what I do, in all different aspects or styles of my music, so fuck it! Why should I bother playing the same fucking stuff everywhere. I’ve never liked these DJs playing their highway sound from beginning to end of their set, all year long, without any consideration of the audience in front of them, because they don’t wanna make any compromise with them, to keep their “artistic integrity”… What are your preferred places in the island? -For eating, the fish shack is one of my favorite. I also love the Blue Marlin Marina breakfasts which is served until 18 h, quite useful at times in Ibiza. For partying, Space remains me to my opinion one of the top world venue and definitely my #1 in Ibiza. What´s your relationship with Reverse? What do you think about Reverse Ibiza at Vista club? -Reverse is one of the best techno party in Madrid, and in Spain most probably, hosted every Friday at the Sala Riviera. They’ve had pretty much every popular name the scene has to offer, Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Sven Vath, Ben Klock, Maceo Plex, Dubfire, just to name a very few. I’ve been playing for the guys for quite a while now, something like two years, and we got along very well since the beginning, music and work wise. So when they told me they were starting a new Ibiza adventure, I told them “I’m in, fellas!” You are doing a new concept that its being really popular: Technasia B2B UNER. How did you start with this? -B2B have a very special diynamic, different that when you play on your own. UNER and I have been friends for quite a while now, we share the same bookings and management agency (Alex Montoya). We play different styles but in a similar way. We tried the b2b first at my bday party in Miami last March,and our combination of the two styles was off the hook, and it all felt very natural between us two. Maybe because we are both bald.
