KEEPING YOU INFORMED AND CONNECTED
A letter from Rob
Hello North Metro Church,
The Holidays are here, bringing excitement and anticipation in so many ways: special meals, nostalgic music, and traditions to be shared with others. As we get into the holidays, I want to tell you about one of my favorite things we do as a church during this season. Hope for Christmas is near and dear to my heart, and this year will be our eighth year participating. Hope for Christmas is a toy drive that helps provide gifts for children and families in our community, making a significant impact on their holiday season. We want to make sure every child gets to experience the happiness of opening a present on Christmas morning. I’m especially excited about this year because we are partnering with a local organization, Mission 1:27, to serve MORE families! More families mean more gifts, so NMC, let’s get ready to shop and bring Hope for Christmas to so many families in our community. Learn more about how you can shop and serve at Hope for Christmas in the following pages of this newsletter.
We have even more to look forward to. In November, we will get to hear teachings in our Sunday morning services from two of our church plant pastors: Paul Richardson from Take Hold Chruch in Scotland and Rohan Thompson from Deeper Church in Dallas, Georgia. Church plants are an expression of our multiplication strategy, in which we want to support churches that are helping people find and follow Jesus in new and different communities. We’re in for a treat as my friends Paul and Rohan join us!
Grateful for you,
Living In Community
JANET AND FREDDY NUNEZ’S STORY
“As soon as we walked into NMC, it felt like home.”
What do you do when you receive devastating news? What prayers do you frantically utter? How does your faith in God hold up when trials seem unending?
Janet and Freddy Nunez have found their own answers to these poignant questions. Shortly after getting married 13 years ago, they joined NMC.
When asked about their involvement at NMC over the past 12 years, Janet and Freddy humbly started sharing their list: Young Marrieds ministry, re|engage, serving in the Café, leading a Community Group, participating in Man Church, and volunteering in NMC Kids. Janet reflected, “As soon as we walked into NMC, it felt like home. When you’re at home, you do chores. It doesn’t feel right to not serve or contribute to a place that feels like home.”
to babysit their kids, bringing meals, and even delivering Easter baskets for Mila and Ellis. Seemingly small things that were actually big acts of love. Freddy expressed, “If I wrote a book about my life, I couldn’t write it without including NMC. In the good and the bad, they’ve been there. They’re a huge part of our lives.”
Reflecting on the overwhelming care they received, Janet said, “It was overwhelming—in a good way. If I felt like NMC was home before, I really feel it now.” Freddy added, “When people ask, ‘How can I help?’ you don’t always know what to say. But our needs have been met without us even saying anything.”
This very home, where they poured so much of themselves, would soon serve them in profound ways. After a few years of marriage, they faced the challenges of infertility, embarking on an eight-year journey filled with hope and heartache. Their Community Group became a vital support system, offering encouragement as they awaited the family they longed for. Today, they are blessed with two young children, Mila and Ellis.
Their world was rocked when, just after Ellis turned one and a half, Janet received the news that no one wanted to hear: she had breast cancer. Janet was initially diagnosed with Stage 2 in January 2023.
In the chaos of chemotherapy, surgeries, and the demands of raising a family, Janet and Freddy, who had always been the supporters, suddenly found themselves in need. Diana Pethel, a breast cancer survivor herself and leader of NMC’s Cancer Support group, stepped up in many ways — offering
Just as Janet was recovering and preparing to return to work in March 2024, they faced the news of her cancer’s return and Janet would need to resume treatment yet again. Without doubt, the Nunezes’ faith has been profoundly tested and strengthened. When asked, “How are you doing?” despite the recurrence of her cancer, Janet shared, “Blessed and highly favored. God is sovereign. He provides in ways that I can’t even explain.” She emphasized, “If we call ourselves Christians, then in these moments, it’s not the time to walk away. It’s the time to say, ‘Alright, God, I believe these things. My life is Yours.’ I don’t have any control over it. This is what I’ve believed, and I will continue to believe this. Whatever this looks like, I want it to glorify You.”
So, what do we do when life feels frantic and uncertain? Like the Nunezes, we can discover that a church community is truly a home. We get involved, meet our neighbors, and become known ourselves. Janet shares her eternal perspective: “When it’s all said and done, when our lives come to an end, we only have two options about where we are going. I want to be partying up in heaven. With whatever this life looks like, I keep that eternity in mind.”
At NMC, we’re family and being in a family means investing in relationships with each other, supporting each other through difficult seasons, and serving each other. If you’re ready to be a part of the NMC family like Janet & Freddy, visit northmetro.org/nextsteps to get started.

FAMILY Christmas GUIDE
LIGHTS, CAMERA, Christmas!
Our Family Christmas Guide is coming soon!
As we enter the holiday season, the NMC Kids team is excited to partner with you in creating intentional family Christmas traditions! “Light, Camera, Christmas!
Do you remember growing up and watching Christmas movies on TV each night? Did you make hot chocolate or pop popcorn? For many of you, those evenings probably created wonderful holiday memories! This year, we want to help your family create those memories by watching three episodes of The Chosen that remind us of the very first Christmas and everything we have to celebrate. Each episode is accompanied by a page in the booklet filled with a brief devotion, discussion questions, and a family activity.
On Sunday, December 1, your family can pick up their popcorn bucket, filled with everything you need to kick off the Christmas season! Then, you can sit back, relax, and hold the popcorn until the very end. When we watch the last episode, Christmas with the Chosen: Holy Night, we will all open our popcorn buckets and make hot chocolate. Let’s get ready to create new traditions this Christmas season.

FAMILY CHRISTMAS GUIDE IS A RESOURCE OF
Hope for Christmas is here!
Hope for Christmas is a church-wide gift drive with the goal of making sure that children will experience the excitement of finding a present under the Christmas tree. This is our eighth year of Hope for Christmas, and this year, we are excited to partner with Mission 1:27. Last year, in 2023, Mission 1:27 directly served 519 families (1239 children), and this year, by partnering with NMC, we hope to serve over 650 families in our community. This is one of our favorite ways to Be Missed in our community and to serve others by giving to them what God has given to us.
Get involved today by purchasing gifts from our Hope for Christmas Amazon Wishlist. This is our greatest need because we want to make sure every child from those 650 families has a gift! All donations are needed by Sunday, November 24, and can be sent to our Barrett Campus: 2305 Barrett Parkway NW Marietta, GA 30064.
You can also get involved by volunteering to serve at Mission 1:27’s Christmas Market, where all the families will receive their gifts. There are opportunities to help set up on December 10 and 11 or at the Market on December 14.

An update from Ivan Mijango. Redeemer's House, or Casa del Redentor, is North Metro Church's international ministry in Panajachel, Guatemala.
Planting a Seed of Hope
During the last week of September, we were blessed with a special visit from an NMC team. Out of all the construction projects we have completed over the years, this was probably the most physically challenging, but also one of the most rewarding ones we’ve ever finished.
In the community of Xecotoj, approximately 100 families live;families who, years ago during Hurricane Stan, lost their homes, belongings, and even loved ones. They were relocated to this small area, just 15 minutes from Panajachel (our base), and although they now have roofs over their heads, there are still many unmet needs. One of them was the school. It started in a small zinc shed, and over time, the government built a formal and decent building, where more than 30 children now attend classes daily. However, the children had an old, abandoned playground that they couldn’t use, and during recess, their entertainment options were very limited.
Thanks to the incredible support of NMC, we managed to bring the old and rusty playground back to life. We built a brand-new swing set strong enough to hold the weight of an elephant, and where there was once mud and weeds, there’s now a paved area where children can run, play, exercise, and even enjoy a game of “4 square.”
It was an exhausting week for the team and the CDR staff. The rainy weather forced us to complete all the work in the mornings
because it rained without fail every afternoon. While some prepared the ground for the concrete, others sanded and painted the old playground equipment, and others built new structures. Even though most had no prior experience in this type of work, everyone poured their heart, love, faith, and sweat into the job. We even had the chance to bury a jar with a prayer for the entire community before mixing 100 bags of cement – and surviving it!
The most emotional moment was during the playground’s dedication and inauguration when one of the children’s mothers said, “We feel forgotten because almost no one thinks about helping the Xecotoj community.” At that moment, we realized that we had not only built a playground for the school’s children, but we had also planted a seed of hope and God’s love in the hearts of every community member.
Thank you so much, NMC, for helping the people of Guatemala find and follow Jesus. We could simply donate the money and let an expert do the job, but it wouldn’t be the same without the most important material for every project – the faith and love that we pour into everything we do, and that you can feel just by looking at the final result and the testimonies that keep coming for months after the trips. If you’re reading this and haven’t yet had the opportunity to come to Guatemala on a mission trip, I encourage you to sign up for the next one and experience it for yourself. We’ll be waiting with open arms!
As we head toward 2025, we are praying our guts out and are entirely dependent on the Lord! He has entrusted us with our vision to “Be Missed,” and our mission, “We Help People Find and Follow Jesus.” To live that out, we have set three God-sized goals to aim for as a church. PEOPLE ENROLLED IN NMCU 1,518
We’re telling our friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers about our great God, who loves us immeasurably more than we can imagine. We want to celebrate with you if you’ve played a part in helping someone move from death to life or if you came to faith in Christ! We invite you to share your story by visiting the Contact Us page at northmetro.org.
We currently support six church plants, including Take Hold in Scotland; Grace Auburn in Auburn, Alabama; Creekside in Dallas, Georgia; Heirloom Church in Kyle, Texas; Oaks Community Church in Naples, Florida; and Compassion International in Guatemala.
Before Jesus left the disciples, He said, “Go make disciples.” A tangible way to see that hope realized is through our discipleship program, NMCU. We’re looking to see 1,000 people faithfully following Jesus, equipped with knowledge of Scripture, to share their beliefs with others ultimately. NMCU creates disciples that make disciples.
Church plants are an expression of our multiplication strategy, multiplying the mission to help people find and follow Jesus.
f UPCOMING SERIES
Birth Stories
SUNDAYS, DECEMBER 8 - DECEMBER 22
Birth stories can be amazing, hilarious, suspenseful, miraculous, tragic, and beautiful, sometimes all in the same story. Even if someone has never witnessed a birth story or had one of their own, we’ve still heard plenty of them.
In our Christmas series, Birth Stories, we want to connect the birth stories we hear and live in today with the birth narratives of Jesus that we read about in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. In any birth story, there is always great uncertainty and fear but also joy and hope once the baby is born. In Jesus’ days, births were even more chaotic and painful however, the
LORD was at work and orchestrating everything in concert in order to bring about the Incarnation, in order to send the Messiah, in order to bring about the restoration of his good Creation and enact His plan for redemption.
So, in our lives, though things often seem fearful and uncertain, and while we experience waiting and pain, we too can look to these birth narratives to be reminded that the LORD is orchestrating all things according to His will and is ultimately working all things together for tov (good), even in hardship. And in this, there is great joy and hope.
