KEEPING YOU INFORMED AND CONNECTED
A letter from Rob
Hello North Metro Church,
Have you seen the new seating assignments in the Auditorium on Sunday mornings? I’m talking to the section in the front left corner of the Auditorium. While this is not a formal assignment, I love seeing our students involved in our Sunday morning and Thursday night worship experiences. Seeing this next generation enthusiastically following Jesus brings my heart so much joy.
It reminds me of the familiar verse in 1 Timothy 4:12, Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. This verse is a great reminder that even the youngest among us can be leaders and examples. Just think about the energy our students bring to our church and faith in God.
Our 6-12th grade students are heading to a retreat in October, and our College students are looking forward to theirs in November. These retreats are some of our favorite ways to help students know and love God and grow in community. Let’s join together in praising God for the outpouring of His presence among our student ministries. And let’s pray that God will continue to draw students to Him and reveal the hope found in Him at these upcoming retreats.
Grateful for you,
and Grow Connect

GROUPS
At NMC, we genuinely believe we are better together. Therefore, we want everyone to circle up with others in a group. We have three different types of groups you can join. Connection Groups meet over shared interests such as hiking, board games, or movies; Community Groups meet for fellowship, prayer, and
Care
PRAYER
Prayer is powerful. It’s one of the most important things we can do as a church. Our staff and leadership would love to come alongside you, fight for you in whatever difficulty you may be experiencing, and celebrate any answered prayers. To share your prayer requests, visit northmetro.org/prayer.
HOME REPAIR ASSISTANCE
NMC has a faithful group of men looking to serve widows, single moms, and other ladies in our church. These men are skilled in most areas of basic home repairs, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry; however, they are unable to take on major renovations or projects that require county permitting. If you are a single woman needing assistance
study of the Bible; and Care Groups assist anyone walking through difficulty or life transition. If you want to join a Connection Group, Community Group, or Care Group, or start your own group, check out northmetro.org/groups.
TABLESETTERS
When we serve others, we set the table for them to experience the grace of God. That’s why, around here, we call our volunteers Tablesetters. Our goal is for everyone to experience the joy of serving others as a Tablesetter and serve somewhere within our church. Regardless of your schedule, experience, or gifting, there’s a fulfilling place for you to serve here. Visit northmetro.org/serve to browse opportunities and take the next step to serve.
BAPTISMS
We have classes for elementary-aged children, students, and adults that are each offered once a quarter. After you have attended a class, one of our pastors will meet with you or your child.
If you’re ready to take this step in your faith journey, we invite you to sign up for a class at our Barrett Campus or meet with a pastor at the Sewell Mill campus. For more information about our beliefs on baptism and to sign up for a class, visit northmetro.org/baptism.
with home maintenance or home repairs visit northmetro.org/care to submit your request.
RE:GENERATION
Through His Word, God offers us principles where freedom and new life can be found. Are you hurting, feeling stuck, giving up hope for change, or wanting to identify and remove obstacles for a deeper fellowship with God? Wonder why you keep struggling with the same thing day after day, year after year?
re:generation is discipleship for the heart and teaches you how to apply the principles of Scripture to your everyday life. Participants walk through 12 steps of biblical healing in the context of authentic community. If you want to learn how to live
out a “new life in Christ” and find healing in Jesus during your day-to-day life, re:generation is a great place to discover the fullness that Christ alone offers us. New groups form at the beginning of each semester, but we have a place for everyone so that anyone can join us any Wednesday at 7:00pm at the Barrett Campus. Visit northmetro.org/regeneration to learn more.
RE|ENGAGE
re|engage is a marriage enrichment ministry designed for couples ready to invest time and energy into building a stronger marriage. Through a mix of large-group teaching and small-group discussion, you and your spouse are challenged and encouraged with practical ways to apply the gospel of Jesus to your marriage. Couples are discipled and
equipped to grow in their walk with Christ and their marriages by studying and applying biblical principles within a small group structure. We offer re|engage twice a year, beginning in August and January. To learn more, visit our Marriage page at northmetro.org/marriage.
MERGE
BARRETT CAMPUS | MONDAY, OCTOBER 14 | 7:00-9:00PM
Strong, healthy marriages start long before the wedding. To build a marriage that lasts and gets off to a great start, we encourage all engaged couples to participate in Merge, our premarital discipleship class. Merge classes are available to those who regularly attend NMC and are already engaged.
To learn more, visit our Marriage page at northmetro.org/marriage.
FOUNDATION GATHERINGS
BARRETT CAMPUS | MONDAY, OCTOBER 7 | 7:00-9:00PM
The first few years of marriage can be difficult, but they also offer a chance to build healthy patterns into a marriage at a formative stage. Foundation Gatherings are open to married couples who have been married for three years or less. These events occur regularly throughout the year and include dinner, teaching, and a chance to build relationships with other newlywed couples. To learn more about Foundation Gatherings, visit our Marriage page at northmetro.org/marriage.
DIVORCE CARE
Divorce Care is a mix of support and learning for those currently separated or divorced. We understand that divorce can be one of life’s most painful trials. While God hates divorce, He doesn’t hate divorced people. Our Divorce Care ministry is led by individuals who understand what you’re experiencing and will support you as you move forward. Through Divorce Care, you
will learn how to deal with the heartache of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.
FOSTER & ADOPTION SUPPORT
BARRETT CAMPUS | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9 | 6:30-9:00PM
Scripture urges believers to look after the orphans in our community. One way we do this at NMC is to come around families participating in foster care or adoption. In addition, this group is a place to find support and encouragement from others who understand these specific challenges.
STEPHEN MINISTRY
Stephen Ministry is a one-on-one care ministry that supports those experiencing difficult times. Stephen Ministers are members of our NMC community, who are well-trained in encouraging others who are enduring painful times such as the loss of a loved one, a marriage, a job, or one’s health. If you are facing any of life’s difficult circumstances, please consider using a Stephen Minister to help bear your burdens.
PURE DESIRE
Pure Desire is a men’s ministry that provides hope, freedom, and healing from sexual brokenness through Jesus Christ. Through this group, you will understand how family of origin and trauma impact your behavior, how addiction affects brain chemistry, and develop a plan to create freedom from addiction. Don’t let shame keep you from finding help. There is hope as you walk out this journey with other Christ-followers.
INFERTILITY & LOSS SUPPORT
BARRETT CAMPUS | MONDAY, OCTOBER 14 | 7:00PM
When God calls our hearts to grow our families, He never promises it will be easy, but He does promise to lead when we are
lost. Take refuge in knowing you’re not alone. If you struggle with infertility or have experienced miscarriage or infant loss, there’s a place for you.
WOMEN’S CANCER SUPPORT
BARRETT CAMPUS | SUNDAYS, OCTOBER 13 & 27 | 12:15PM
Cancer hits with a terrible punch, whether it’s you, a spouse, parent, sibling, child, or friend. We can’t take you out of this storm, but we can walk alongside you and hold you up when the weight is too heavy. We can be that safe place to let all your feelings fall. We can have the honor of praying continually for you and your family. We can be that safe group of ladies who get it without explanation or apologies; we get it all.
If cancer has affected you in any way, we encourage you to reach out to NMC’s Cancer Support Group. You will find an amazing community of brave, strong women who have learned to trust God no matter what because He is trustworthy.
BEAUTY FOR ASHES
BARRETT CAMPUS | THURSDAYS, OCTOBER 10 & 24 | 7:00PM
Barrett Campus | Beauty for Ashes is a confidential group designed to encourage and give hope to women whose husbands struggle with sexual addiction. We understand the devastation of a husband’s betrayal; however, our goal is not to stay in this place of wounding but to seek the Lord for healing and hope.

People First Mindset: The Blessing and Benefit of Making Others Your Priority
Whenever I train a new Guest Services team member, I ask them to have a “people first mindset.”
I first heard the term “people first” from a friend of mine when she said the phrase “a person experiencing homelessness (as opposed to “a homeless person”) and later when she said “a person with a disability” instead of “disabled person.” At first, I did not recognize what she was doing, but she later explained to me that she was using “people first” language. People-first language is a phrase that originated in the early 2000s to provide honor and respect to individuals with disabilities. “Peoplefirst language puts the person before the disability and describes what a person has, not what a person is.”
(Matthew McCollough)
The concept of people first language was inspiring to me because of the way it took everyday language and reordered it to honor men, women, and children. I began to adopt people first language in my own life, but I also began to look for other ways to be “people first minded.”
Over the years, as I have tweaked our training materials for our Guest Services Tablesetters, I began using my own “people first language.” In everything we do as Guest Services, I started asking the question, “How can we honor people?
I began telling host team members, “People over pointing! People over pointing!”. If you’ve been inside our Barrett campus before – you know it’s a big building. And some Sunday mornings, you can really get your steps in. I often find myself heading from the auditorium to the cafe, to the guest services room, and then upstairs to the theater. It’s a lot of steps. And just when I find myself sitting down – someone will find me and ask me where the restrooms are. The temptation at this moment is most certainly to point them in the right direction- literally- at this moment, I don’t want to get back up. But what honors the person? Have you ever been looking for something in a grocery store and had so much trouble that you had to stop and ask an employee stocking shelves for help? This always goes one of two ways. Occasionally, they’ll pause, look up, and refer me to an aisle, and I walk away frustrated because I’ve already looked there. However, in the best stores (Kroger, of course), the employee gets up and walks you right to the product. This is a long, dramatic way to tell you that I don’t particularly appreciate pointing. It’s never as helpful as you think, and it’s just lazy. Walking someone to whatever they’re looking for is useful, creating
a moment of connection. When someone asks me where room 206 is, I get to say, “Oh, let me show you!” in that moment, a million things happen. 1) That person doesn’t feel like a burden because I sound excited to help them. 2) I ensure I meet their need; I walk them straight to the room! 3) We have at least thirty seconds to say hi and introduce ourselves. That person now feels a little more comfortable and connected at North Metro Church. As simple as it is, choosing to honor a person with a few extra steps makes the world of a difference.
Another thing I’ve found myself saying is “people over positions.” If you serve on the host team, you know everyone is assigned a specific position on Sunday morning. Each week, team members are placed specifically at a particular place – the theater, the cafe doors, the auditorium entrance. We’re specific because we want to ensure everyone is in place to meet new guests, pass out communion, and open doors. However, this is another area that we can be people first minded. Again, as I’ve trained new team members, I’ve stressed to them the opportunity to be people first minded, as I’ve asked them to remember, “People over positions.” Some tablesetters are the very best, and they do what I’ve asked them to with explicit detail. If I’ve asked someone to greet at the cafe door – they’re on it. But what trumps waving at the door? A person. A tablesetter with a people first mindset knows – if someone approaches them and asks how to sign up for NMCU or if we have tissues – that the position of the café door goes out the window. We honor the person, and we take care of them. And we do that by abandoning the door to sign them up, grab the tissue, or whatever they may need. “People over position” has similar benefits to “people over pointing” –simply put – when we honor someone else’s needs over our own agendas, we win.
At NMC, people are the mission. And we all have the opportunity to be people first minded. Guest Services teams are full because five greeters at one door might be a bit much, agreed? But all believers, Guest Services or not, have the call and the opportunity to be people first minded. Romans 12 says it best: “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal; be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.” (12:10-13)
In your own life, what mindset, habit, or phrase can you adopt to be more “people first minded”?

LYDIA CIRCLE SEWS
BARRETT CAMPUS | MONDAY, OCTOBER 28 | 9:00AM
Did you know that girls in Africa miss days of school and/or work each month due to a lack of hygiene supplies? Many girls are forced to stay in their homes because of their monthly menstrual cycle, causing them to fall behind in school or go without earned wages. Though in the Western world we cannot relate to this common challenge, there is an easy solution where we can help!
The women of North Metro Church sew and assemble feminine hygiene kits that are sustainable, reusable products that give African women the freedom to stay engaged in their everyday life. These kits are then personally distributed to women in East Africa through NMC’s mobilization partner, Lydia Circle Ministries. Lydia Circle has hand-delivered hundreds of these kits over the past several years!
Join us at our next Lydia Circle Sews event! There are plenty of ways to help without using a sewing machine, so don’t let a lack of sewing experience keep you from linking arms with NMC women to serve girls in Africa! Sign up to join us by visiting northmetro.org/serve.

NMCU
NMCU CORE (101-104)
North Metro Church University (NMCU) is our primary vehicle for studying the Bible together to form a biblical worldview. In NMCU Core, you’ll move through a set sequence of classes and learn about the big
picture of Scripture and how everything in Scripture points to and is fulfilled in Jesus. In this learning process, NMCU will also help equip you to both understand and communicate your faith to others so that you can become a more faithful follower of Jesus, a disciple who makes disciples. Each semester offered is 10 weeks and goes in sequential order. Our fall classes have already begun; however, if you’d like to do an independent study to start your learning journey, please email Dana at dmorelly@northmetro.org for more details.
NMCU 201
This class is solely for Core Graduates (students who have completed 101-104). Having established a foundation of the Bible, we will discuss matters of internal life and how, through a biblical perspective and worldview, we address and respond to them. This 8-week semester, we will discuss salvation, atonement, the Creeds, the Trinity, scripture reading and memorization, and sexuality. Our fall classes have already begun; however, if you’d like to do an independent study to start your learning journey, please email Dana at dmorelly@northmetro.org for more details.

NMC KIDS TABLE TALKER
OCTOBER/NOVEMBER DISCIPLESHIP TOOL
The NMC Kids Table Talker is back! This is a discipleship tool designed by the NMC Kids team to equip families to connect around the table intentionally. The activities and devotions you’ll find in the table talker come from the Gospel Project curriculum that we use in the classrooms. This means you can connect what you do at home with what your kids do in the classroom. But it’s not all curriculum; you’ll also find silly games, get-to-knowyou questions, and family challenges. You are your child’s first teacher and the first person to disciple your child. We hope the NMC Kids Table Talker is just the tool you need to take your family relationships to the next level. Grab yours today in NMC Kids.

Mijango Casa del Redentor Director
An update from Ivan Mijango. Redeemer's House, or Casa del Redentor, is North Metro Church's international ministry in Panajachel, Guatemala.
What’s New at CDR?
When I asked myself this question, I had to take a long pause. There’s nothing particularly new happening this month— nothing super exciting or special brewing in the ministry. However, I soon realized that having a quiet and maybe even “boring” month isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It could mean that things are running as they should, or, in the worst case, that nothing is working at all (I’m inclined to believe it’s the former).
As I write this letter, we are just days away from welcoming the next adult missionary team for the September trip. This year, many people who have been part of previous trips are returning for the second, third, or even fourth time. Thanks to the outstanding
work done in June by NMC’s high school students mission team in Xecotoj (one of the villages where we serve), which brought new life to the school, our relationship with the children, parents, and the community has strengthened and inspired us to do something new.
Xecotoj has a government-run elementary school with just two teachers for the entire community, who do their best to educate approximately 35 children. For several years, the playground has been abandoned, and practically in ruins due to the passage of time, and during the rainy season, it turns into a mud pit. However, thanks to the NMC missionary team arriving in September, all the children in the community will soon
have access to a newly paved playground. The best part is that it will be right in front of the school, where the teachers can watch over and care for them.
We are thrilled to carry out this project, which will not only bring countless laughs and fun recesses to the children but will also help the people of Xecotoj feel that they are not forgotten despite being a small community. It will show them that God loves them, and so do we. I eagerly look forward to sharing the experiences from this trip with you next month and encourage you to consider participating in future missionary trips. We would love to have you here and get to know you.
As we head toward 2025, we are praying our guts out and are entirely dependent on the Lord! He has entrusted us with our vision to “Be Missed,” and our mission, “We Help People Find and Follow Jesus.” To live that out, we have set three God-sized goals to aim for as a church.
PEOPLE ENROLLED IN NMCU 1,428 PEOPLE FOUND 309
We’re telling our friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers about our great God, who loves us immeasurably more than we can imagine. We want to celebrate with you if you’ve played a part in helping someone move from death to life or if you came to faith in Christ! We invite you to share your story by visiting the Contact Us page at northmetro.org.
We currently support six church plants, including Take Hold in Scotland; Grace Auburn in Auburn, Alabama; Creekside in Dallas, Georgia; Heirloom Church in Kyle, Texas; Oaks Community Church in Naples, Florida; and Compassion International in Guatemala.
Before Jesus left the disciples, He said, “Go make disciples.” A tangible way to see that hope realized is through our discipleship program, NMCU. We’re looking to see 1,000 people faithfully following Jesus, equipped with knowledge of Scripture, to share their beliefs with others ultimately. NMCU creates disciples that make disciples.
Church plants are an expression of our multiplication strategy, multiplying the mission to help people find and follow Jesus.
