2022

LETTER FROM JOHN Hello North Metro Church! The New Year is right around the corner, and you have probably already thought about what new endeavor you want to start or goal or two you hope to reach. If you are like me, those goals usually are some combination of eating better, spending wiser, or exercising more. Then a few days into January I find myself looking at my banking app wondering what I even bought from Target, while sitting in a fast food drive-through wearing a sweatshirt I got off the coat rack that used to be an exercise bike. While I am all about achieving new goals in those areas, this year I simply want to ask the question, what does my relationship with Jesus Christ look like? So, as a church, I would love for you to join me by making room for that question in your goals this year. As this New Year begins and we continue to (hopefully, thank you omicron) move out of this pandemic and cope with all the change that it has brought to our world, nation, church, family, and ourselves...I want to encourage you to take a moment and think about the question I asked and what your answer is. A lot of people have the misconception that God and the Church want something from you, but I am here to say that the truth is there is something FOR you. Jesus said in John 10:10 “...I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Do you feel weary? I know I have. I know that to be truly refilled and to thrive I have to go to Jesus who is the giver of life. He is the only one that can meet all of my needs limitlessly. As I abide in Him I will have life to the full. In our next sermon series: What’s the point? We will look at key passages from the Bible that answer this question and give direction for why God’s word instructs us to gather purposefully, serve selflessly, connect deeply, influence daily, give generously, and love globally. My prayer is that God would show us what truly matters in our daily lives while we learn to trust Him, walk in obedience, and experience life to the full.

John Maggard

I am grateful for you all and humbled and honored to serve this church!

NMC Executive Pastor Grateful for you!

EVENT DETAILS: Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 9:00am-4:00pm at NMC Cost:$35 (lunch is included) You can register for this event by visiting the Events page at northmetro.org

Awaken. It’s a fresh start. A stirring. A new awareness. In February, we are launching NMC’s own one-day women’s gathering, Awaken. Join the women of NMC for Awaken: Loving the People Next Door, a one-day gathering, on Saturday, February 26! EB and Shane Cole will be returning to lead us in worship and Debbie McGoldrick, a Cru staff member and founder of Neighbor Bible Studies 2GO, will lead us by sharing her experience of practically living out the Great Commission and loving her neighbors well.

How do we slow down long enough to have eyes to see the people closest in proximity to us? How can we take the first step to walk out our own front door in an effort to meet our neighbors without being awkward? Once we do, how can we connect with them on a deeper level so we can have more meaningful conversations with them? Where there are connections, there can be opportunities for the Gospel to be shared and our communities transformed. Too often, we overcomplicate it but Jesus' instruction to us is actually quite simple. This is not a-boxto-be-checked evangelism tool but a new way of living your everyday, normal life with more intentionality.

Come prepared to experience practical tools to explore your own neighboring opportunities by focusing on the homes directly around your own. We'll have fun giveaways, share meaningful conversations around the table, and you'll have an opportunity to meet your own neighbors who also attend NMC! Jesus commanded us in the gospel of Matthew to “Love Thy Neighbor.” Make a commitment to walk outside, look up and lean into new relationships just waiting to be made.

EVENT SPEAKER:

Debbie McGoldrick Debbie McGoldrick is passionate about loving God, His Word, and others! She has dedicated her life to creatively loving and connecting others to God and His Word - from age 10; leaning out her bedroom window teaching neighborhood children Bible stories, to serving with Cru for over 45 years. For the past 33 years, she has been developing neighboring strategies and outreach Bible studies that have spread to Canada, Europe, South and Central America, Africa, and Asia. In 2010, she founded Neighbor Bible Studies 2GO with a mission to encourage and equip believers to begin and multiply Bible studies with the people around them. Debbie and her husband of 41 years live in Roswell, Georgia. They have 2 married children, and love being Papa and DeeDee to their fabulous four grands! Debbie is an avid collector of heart rocks and shells, a lover of color, and always looking for a reason to go to the beach.

EVENT SPEAKER

Stuart Hall

Grab your shovels men! If you have been around a Men’s event at NMC, you have probably noticed a shovel; maybe you have even heard us talk about the shovel. The shovel for us is a reminder that we, as men, have been called to use our lives to help cultivate the world and relationships around us. The shovel

is also a reminder that as men, we have work to do…and as men, we are needed. As I think about the need for men to grab their shovels and get to work, I am reminded of the great quote by Edmund Burke...

All that’s necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is enough good men to do nothing. So men, you are needed. But before we can use our shovels for the world's flourishing, we must learn to use them correctly. Our eyes must be open to the war that has been declared against us, our families, and the church. We must learn to connect with our Heavenly Father for His love, guidance, and wisdom, and we must learn the importance of brotherhood—because we cannot accomplish all that we desire on our own. This is what Man Camp is all about.

Man Camp is an opportunity for the men of NMC to get away for a few days to connect with our Heavenly Father and other men for ongoing training as good men who desire to join the fight against the forces of evil.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who will be teaching at Man Camp? Stuart Hall will be joining us for Man Camp! He is a passionate lover of Jesus and desires to help men live victoriously. You can learn more about Stuart by visiting theechogroup.com/ stuart-hall or following him on instagram at @iamstuarthall. Will we really be camping? No, we will be staying in cabins at Camp Grace. To learn more about the accommodations, visit Camp Grace’s website at thecampgrace.com

What will we be doing? In addition to our training sessions where we will sing and open up God’s Word, we will be enjoying campfires, shooting guns, hiking, fishing, rock wall climbing, zip lines, corn hole, basketball, axe throwing—you know, man stuff. What if I do not know anyone? Welcome to the brotherhood. If you do not know anyone at Man Camp, we promise that that will quickly change. We promise to leave no man behind!

Can I bring my son? If you have high school-age sons or older, do not miss out on inviting them. Our hope is that our sons grow up believing that connecting with other men and making much of Jesus is how life is supposed to be lived— because it was modeled to them by their father. What does it cost and where can I register? The cost and registration information can be found on the Events page at northmetro.org

UPCOMING FOR YOU CHURCHWIDE

NMCU 101 AND 102 CLASSES

SUNDAY, JANUARY 23, 2022

NMCU is the new discipleship process at North Metro Church. NMCU is an intentional environment built to create a firm foundation of faith by studying God's Word and forming a biblical worldview to more faithfully follow Jesus in every area and aspect of life. This process also equips us to both understand and communicate our faith to others so that we can become disciples who make disciples. In this program, you'll move through a set sequence of semesters and learn about the big picture of Scripture, how it all leads to Jesus, and how we live in light of that. And all of it is done around tables in a community.

MARIETTA MENTORING FOR LEADERSHIP

The community of Marietta has heard the voice of its young people who identified the need for school to not only be a place where students learn academically but also be a place where the issues of life meet real solutions. Marietta Student Life Center provides in-school services related to housing, job skill development, job placement for students and families, college admission support services, and more. This is an opportunity to engage with students in a one-to-one mentoring relationship or as a Group Mentor, which is ideal for people who thrive in a small group setting, who can build rapport with teens and can be active listeners. Take the next step by emailing our Adults Pastor, Bud Darr, at bdarr@northmetro.org.

SATURDAY SERVE

SATURDAY, MARCH 26 | 8:15AM If you have yet to take NMCU 101: The Torah, do not miss this opportunity to join. You can go through it solo or with your spouse, family (8th grade and older), or community group. And if you've already been through NMCU 101: The Torah, we hope you'll continue on to NMCU 102: The History, The Writings, and The Prophets. We've seen and heard incredible things from participants so far, and we hope more people will join in on this new equipping discipleship process.

Saturday Serve is a great opportunity for you, your family, or those you’re in Community Group with to serve consistently throughout the year. Breakfast will be provided in the NMC Cafe at 8:15am, followed by a time of prayer before we go out to serve. For more information and to sign up, visit the Events page at northmetro.org.

DADDY/DAUGHTER DATE NIGHT

Many Christians believe that the church is immune to pornography, but statistics prove otherwise. Instead of ignoring it, we want to lead our church body and community through the battle. Pure Desire is a Men's Care ministry that North Metro Church hosts as a place to provide hope, freedom, and healing from sexual brokenness through Jesus Christ. The journey to healing begins with the Conquer series, a five-week introduction where you'll learn more about the Pure Desire program and what you can expect. For more information, see our Care page on northmetro.org. Additionally, you can email Tom Crews (tomcrews13@gmail.com) for more information.

LYDIA CIRCLE SEWS

MONDAY, JANUARY 24 | STARTING AT 9:00AM Did you know that girls in Africa miss days of school and/or work each month due to a lack of hygiene supplies? Many girls are forced to stay in their homes because of their monthly menstrual cycle causing them to fall behind in school or go without earned wages. Though we in the Western world cannot relate to this common challenge, there is an easy solution where we can help! The women of North Metro sew and assemble feminine hygiene kits that are sustainable, reusable products that give African women the freedom to stay engaged in their everyday life. These kits are then personally distributed to women in East Africa through NMC's mobilization partner, Lydia Circle Ministries. Lydia Circle has handdelivered hundreds of these kits over the past several years! Join us at our next Lydia Circle Sews event! There are plenty of ways to help without using a sewing machine so don’t let a lack of sewing experience keep you from linking arms with NMC women to serve girls in Africa! Sign up to join us by visiting the Events page at northmetro.org.

2025 GOALS As we head toward the year 2025 we are praying our guts out and being fully dependent on the Lord! He has entrusted us with our vision, to “Be Missed,” and our mission, “We Help People Find and Follow Jesus.” To live that out, we have set three God-sized goals to aim for as a church.

GOAL #1: HELP 1,000 PEOPLE FIND JESUS We’re telling our friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers about our great God who loves us immeasurably more than we can imagine. We

PEOPLE FOUND

46

want to celebrate with you if you’ve played a part in helping someone move from death to life or if you came to faith in Christ! We invite you to share your story by visiting the Contact Us page at northmetro.org.

GOAL #2: HELP 1,000 PEOPLE ENROLL IN NMCU Before Jesus left the disciples, He said, "Go make disciples." A tangible way to see that hope realized is through our discipleship program,

PEOPLE ENROLLED IN NMCU

619

NMCU. We're looking to see 1,000 people faithfully following Jesus, equipped with knowledge of Scripture, to ultimately share their beliefs with others. NMCU creates disciples that make disciples.

GOAL #3: EXPAND THE KINGDOM OF GOD THROUGH FIVE NEW CHURCH PLANTS NATIONALLY AND/OR GLOBALLY Church plants are an expression of our multiplication strategy, multiplying the mission to help people find and follow Jesus.
