Join us for HUNGER 2023
Gather July 27-30 with our NMC family members for a revival. Mark your calendars and get ready to seek after God together. We’ll be joined by guest speakers Miles Fidell and Will Gravely!
We are hungry people. We crave delicious food, more time with close friends, less tragic world conflicts, and bigger bank accounts. And as God's creation, we hunger for His presence and His ways too.
In Mark 10, we meet a hungry guy named Bartimaeus, a blind beggar who is sitting by a roadside. When he heard that Jesus was healing people and would be passing by him, Bartimaeus cried out, "Jesus Son of David, have mercy on me!" and people around Bartimaeus rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But Bartimaeus cried out all the more.
Bartimaeus was desperate for Jesus' attention, and embarrassment and distraction were not going to deter his hunger. Bartimaeus' cries could have us asking, is there anything we want desperately enough that we would be willing to cry out so loudly and stubbornly, all to get a response from Jesus?
Rob McDowell Lead PastorChildcare for infants through 4th grade is offered while space is available and sign-ups are needed. A form to sign up for childcare will be available starting on Sunday, June 25. Find out more about this event at northmetro.org/hunger!
Let us hunger for Jesus the way Bartimaeus did and cry out all the more for Jesus’ attention and for the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. Join us as we seek more of God’s words, ways, and worship at Hunger 2023.

Connect
and Grow
WELCOME HOME
SUNDAY, JULY 23 | 11:00AM-12:00PM
Welcome Home is designed to help you learn about everything that makes up North Metro Church and give you the next steps on how you can belong to our family. Visit northmetro.org/events to learn more and sign up.
GROUPS
At NMC, we genuinely believe that we are better together. For that reason, we want everyone to circle up with others in a group. We have three different types of groups that you can join. They include Connection Groups that meet over shared interests such as hiking, board games, or movies; Community Groups that meet for fellowship, prayer, and study of the Bible; and Care Groups that assist anyone walking through difficulty or life transition. If you want to join a Connection Group, Community Group, Care Group, or even start your own group, then check out northmetro.org/groups.
TABLESETTERS
When we serve others, we set the table for them to experience the grace of God. That’s why around here, we call our volunteers Tablesetters. Our goal is for everyone to experience the joy of serving others as a Tablesetter and serve somewhere within our church. Regardless of your schedule, experience, or gifting, there’s a fulfilling place for you to serve here! Visit northmetro.org/ serve to browse opportunities and take the next step to serve.
Care
PRAYER
Prayer is powerful. It's one of the most important things we can do as a church. Our staff and leadership would love to come alongside you, fight for you in whatever difficulty you may be experiencing, and celebrate any answered prayers! To share your prayer requests, visit northmetro.org/ prayer.
MERGE
Strong, healthy marriages start long before the wedding. To build a marriage that lasts and gets off to a great start, we encourage all engaged couples to participate in Merge, our four-week premarital discipleship class. Merge classes are available to those who regularly attend NMC and are already engaged. The next session begins Monday, August 7, from 6:00-9:00pm.
RE|ENGAGE
re|engage is a marriage enrichment ministry designed for couples ready to invest time and energy into building a stronger marriage. Through a mix of large-group teaching and small-group discussion, you and your spouse are challenged and encouraged with practical ways to apply the gospel of Jesus to your marriage. Couples are discipled and equipped to grow in their walk with Christ and their marriages by studying and applying biblical principles within a small group structure. We offer re|engage twice a year, beginning in August and January.
If you're interested in re|engage this fall, join us for an informational meeting on Monday, August 14 where you can learn more about how this ministry can strengthen your marriage. The fall session will begin on Monday, August 21.
DIVORCE CARE
Divorce Care is a mix of support and learning for those currently separated or divorced. We understand that divorce can be one of life's most painful trials, and while God hates divorce, He doesn't hate divorced people. Our Divorce Care ministry is led by individuals who understand what you're experiencing and will support you as you move forward. Through Divorce Care, you will learn how to deal with the heartache of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.
FOSTER & ADOPTION SUPPORT
Scripture urges believers to look after the orphans in our community. One way we do this at NMC is to come around families in foster care or adoption. In addition, this group is a place to find support and encouragement from others who understand these specific challenges. Meetings are on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm.
STEPHEN MINISTRY
Stephen Ministry is a one-on-one care ministry that supports those experiencing difficult times. Stephen Ministers are members of our NMC community who are well trained in encouraging others enduring painful times such as the loss of a loved one, a marriage, a job, or one's health. If you are facing any of life's difficult circumstances, please consider using a Stephen Minister to help bear your burdens.
If you feel led to serve as a Stephen Minister, keep a lookout for more information in the coming months. Stephen Ministry recruiting takes place each September, with training beginning in January.
FRESH START
Is there someone in your life that has hurt you deeply? Have you tried to forgive, but when you hear or see the person, feelings of anger or bitterness crop up in your life? If so, the ministry of Fresh Start can help free your heart. It is a process that will help you live “Forgiven, Forgiving & Free." It will help you understand what forgiveness is and what it is not.
Women's groups meet on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings. Men's groups meet depending on individual availability.
PURE DESIRE
Pure Desire is a men's ministry that provides hope, freedom, and healing from sexual brokenness through Jesus Christ. Through this group, you will understand how family of origin and trauma impact your behavior, how addiction affects brain chemistry, and develop a plan to create freedom from addiction. Don't let shame keep you from finding help; know there is hope as you walk out this journey with other Christ-followers.
This fall, a new class, "Sexual Integrity 101," will be offered for husbands and wives to attend together. In this five-week class, couples will learn how shame and grace affect the healing process, give an understanding of addiction and betrayal trauma, and get marriages started on the path to healing and unity. Class begins on Monday, August 14, and concludes on September 18. To learn more or to register, visit northmetro.org/ events.
INFERTILITY & LOSS SUPPORT
When God calls our hearts to grow our families, He never promises that it will be easy. But, He does promise to lead when we are lost. So, take refuge in knowing you’re not alone. If you struggle with infertility or have experienced miscarriage or infant loss, there’s a place for you. This month's meeting will be Monday, July 10, at 7:00pm.
WOMEN’S CANCER SUPPORT
Cancer hits with a terrible punch, whether it’s you or a spouse, parent, sibling, child, or friend. We can't take you out of this storm, but we can walk alongside you and hold you up when the weight is too heavy. We can be that safe place to let all your feelings fall. We can have the honor of praying continually for you and your family. We can be that safe group of ladies that get it without explanation or apologies; we just get it all.
If cancer has affected you in any way, we encourage you to reach out to NMC's Cancer Support Group. You will find an amazing community of brave, strong women that have learned to trust God no matter what because He is trustworthy. This month's meeting will be Sunday, July 9, at 12:15pm.
BEAUTY FOR ASHES
Beauty for Ashes is a confidential group designed to provide encouragement and hope to women whose husbands struggle with sexual addiction. We understand the devastation of a husband's betrayal; however, our goal is not to stay in this place of wounding but to seek the Lord for healing and hope. This month's meetings will be Thursdays, July 13 and 27, at 7:00pm.
For more information or to sign up for any of our Care Ministries, visit our Care page at northmetro.org/care.
What is re:gen?
The re:generation ministry is a biblically-based discipleship program offering healing, recovery, and freedom from any struggle. re:generation will be open to the NMC family members this fall, and men's and women's groups will begin in August.
This past year, twenty-five men and women agreed to be a part of the pilot group for re:generation. They were the 'guinea pigs' for this new ministry that is launching at North Metro Church this August. After spending nearly 35 weeks walking through the re:generation content, God has changed their lives. Here are a few things they have to say about it:
I've been a Christian for almost 50 years, and besides the day I accepted Christ, this is the most transformational thing I've ever done.
I am sharing the gospel more, not necessarily intentionally, but because I find it just coming out of my mouth as an overflow from my heart.
I need to fully trust and obey God in all aspects of my life to find true freedom.
Every single person has a hurt, habit, or hang-up that can be addressed and healed in the re:gen process. Recovery is for all.
It's a commitment worth making.
re:gen has helped me feel more comfortable at church and made me realize that my struggles aren't so different from all the other women here.
I am more complicated than I thought!
I am learning how and why I have been in certain patterns in my life, how to be more self-aware, and how to stop the sin patterns before they become too deeply ingrained.
I have been a believer for years and understood the gospel message for a long time but through re:gen, I actually feel like it's a message for me. I have joy that I've never experienced.
I learned how important this type of program is needed in our Christian walk and now in this culture. God is our healer, and without him, we have no hope for change. I'm living testimony, and this program brings it out for others to hear.
To learn more about re:generation or to sign up for the interest meeting on Wednesday, August 23, visit northmetro.org/regeneration.
The reality is we all experience brokenness in this life. The good news is God loves you, wants to heal you, and has a plan for you.
Worship Devotion Clark Beasley Worship Devotion
You Can’t, but God Can
Clark Beasley serves as Worship Director and is in charge of music for our Sunday morning gatherings. While Clark is passionate about leading others to worship God through music, he is also passionate about God transforming our entire lives to be in worship of Him. Read this month's worship devotion!
“Now may the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.”
— Hebrews 13:20-21 NLT
You can't, but God can
Look at the theme of this passage - such a small part of a larger writing from whom we presume is Paul. And yet, through its short length, it conveys a powerful principle. It is God who not only calls you to act, but also gives you the will and power to carry that action out.
This principle fights against our own natural tendencies. We think at all times that we must work, do, and achieve. When , we read something like the ten commandments, we assume we must awaken some motivation, some fuel, and power within us to accomplish these things. But there is a principle laced like a thread throughout all Scripture - you can’t, but God can. Stop trying to make this happen in your own strength. This is where prayer is absolutely crucial and, really, one of the few responsibilities that do depend upon you.
God's work in prayer
Prayer does a few very important things. It is a place for you to cry out to God, but more importantly, as you pray, God begins to work on realigning what is your part and what is God’s part in your heart and head. You begin to see things as He does. Then as He imbues you with the power to accomplish it, He begins to implant within you even the
desires themselves to do the right, brave, and true next thing.
“For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”
— Philippians 2:13 ESV
“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”
— Philippians 2:13 NLT
“Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure.”
— Philippians 2:12-13 MSG
Living in freedom
Are you getting it? It is God who is doing not just the asking, but also the will to carry it out and the work itself. Live with freedom in the glorious peace that God does not ask anything of you that He would fail to supply the drive and the power to accomplish in and through you.
If you’re struggling with a sin that continues to trip you up, don’t make the same mistake as Adam and Eve, who hid from God and
tried to fix it themselves (remember sowing the fig leaves and hiding behind the bush?). He is the answer and the solution. Instead, remember that God is the help you need, and He knows you can’t conquer sin on your own. He provided the finished work of the cross for yesterday today, and tomorrow. He offers you the power to move forward, to repent, and to leave that sin in the past. He is “faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
— 1 John 1:9 ESV
Live in freedom in these next coming days - that as you pray for God to supernaturally empower you to operate in a manner that pleases Him, His desire for that to happen in you has preceded your asking, and He stands ready to give you all you need for life and godliness.
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.”
— 2 Peter 1:3 ESV
In addition to leading our Sunday worship teams, Clark also has organized a partnership between NMC and Rooted Music Coaching, a company providing individual and intentional music lessons to help students of every age thrive in music and in life.
For more information on what Rooted is about, feel free to reach out to Clark at clark@rootedmusiccoaching.com or visit their website: rootedmusiccoaching.com/westcobb.

We engage with everyone in and outside of our circles in a way that if NMC ceased to exist, we (not the building but the body of Christ) would be missed.

CIRCLES USA
Did you know that here in Cobb County, over 17% of our children live below the poverty line? The ramifications of poverty are heartbreaking and can include homelessness, food insecurity, and children being removed from their homes and entering the foster care system simply because their families cannot afford to adequately care for them. Circles USA works to move families out of poverty, and you can be involved in this work in many ways, including offering a meal, becoming an ally, and so much more. To serve with Circles USA, go to northmetro.org/serve.
CHARACTER EDUCATION MENTORING AT KENNESAW MOUNTAIN HIGH SCHOOL
You can invest in the next generation by becoming a mentor to encourage students every month at Kennesaw Mountain High School (KMHS). An update from Ivan Mijango. Redeemer's House or Casa del Redentor is North Metro Church's international ministry in Panajachel, Guatemala.
Mother's Day in Guatemala
Every year on May 10, Mother's Day is celebrated in Guatemala and in most of Latin America. After Christmas, it is the most important celebration since it unites families and gives us Guatemalans an excuse to pamper the queens of the house, rest from work, and have a great meal in a restaurant. Mothers all around the world do a lot for their families, but specifically in Guatemala, where fathers are away most of the time, mothers hold a special part in our hearts because they take on most of the responsibilities of raising children and holding our households together.
This year, the Casa del Redentor (CDR) team had a party for all the mothers in Chuitziyut, one of the villages where we are currently planting a church. It was an incredible day when all the ladies from the community attended, some of them even for the first time. The CDR team had a day full of games, fun, gifts, and food, but what made us most happy was seeing how 4 ladies decided to give their lives to Jesus for the first time.
One of the ladies over 75 years old won a raffle for the first time in her life and couldn't help but shed tears of joy, and of
course, that made everybody else in the room cry, even me.
We also had the opportunity to celebrate all the mothers in the other communities, including those of the CDR staff. Every day is the perfect day to invite our moms for lunch or give them a gift for no specific reason, but as good Guatemalans, we are only waiting for an excuse to throw a party, and this year we were able to do it in a big way that even the dads wanted to be part of this celebration. We're grateful that we got to minister to these mothers that mean so much to us and our communities.
We get to partner with Redeemer's House to help people find and follow Jesus in Guatemala because of your obedience in giving. To get involved, you can go to northmetro.org/serve.
As we head toward the year 2025 we are praying our guts out and being fully dependent on the Lord! He has entrusted us with our vision, to “Be Missed,” and our mission, “We Help People Find and Follow Jesus.” To live that out, we have set three God-sized goals to aim for as a church.
1,428
We’re telling our friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers about our great God who loves us immeasurably more than we can imagine. We want to celebrate with you if you’ve played a part in helping someone move from death to life or if you came to faith in Christ! We invite you to share your story by visiting the Contact Us page at northmetro.org.
Before Jesus left the disciples, He said, “Go make disciples.” A tangible way to see that hope realized is through our discipleship program, NMCU. We’re looking to see 1,000 people faithfully following Jesus, equipped with knowledge of Scripture, to ultimately share their beliefs with others. NMCU creates disciples that make disciples.
Church plants are an expression of our multiplication strategy, multiplying the mission to help people find and follow Jesus. We currently support three church plants including Take Hold in Scotland, Grace Auburn in Auburn, Alabama, and Creekside in Dallas, Georgia.
