Aquick wayto see a horse’s past performance. These are its recent finishing positions.
Look out for Letters:
C = Has won at this course
D = Has won over this distance
CD = Has won over this distance at this course
BF = Was a beaten favourite
MORE INFORMATION ON THE FORM
- = New racing season
/ = Missed racing season
P = Was pulled-up and didn’t finish the race
F = Horse fell
U = Rider unseated
R = Horse refused to race
CO = The horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse
B = Horse was brought down
S = Horse slipped
r = The horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race
d = Disqualified
Bold form
figures = performance in all-weather (Flat) or Point-to-Point (Jump) races
How the experts rate the horse’s chances:
2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse.
3. Timeform view and TFR rating
Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race
Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.
6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey
7. Saddlecloth number
8. Horse’s name
9. Days since the horse last run
10. Horse’s age
11. Jockey’s weight (stone and Ibs)
12. The horse’s breeding – father (sire) and mother (dam)
13. Horse’s owner
14. Horse’s breeder
15. Birthplace of horse (outside GB)
Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number
Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.
Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.
Martin was born in Lymm, Cheshire on 15th October 1954. He spent his childhood in Lymm, attending the local Pepper Street Primary School followed by Lymm Grammar School. At weekends he spent his time fishing, or doing woodwork and even built himself a boat!
In 1974 Martin set off to Nottingham University to study medicine, graduating in July 1979.
After completing house jobs, Martin spent a couple of years doing surgery, working at the Queen’s Medical Centre. It was here, whilst attending a patient in A&E that he met Jane, a nurse, in 1982. Shortly after this Martin decided to join the GP training scheme in Nottingham. Martin and Jane were married on September 1st 1984 and in August the following year, Martin started as a new partner in a GP’s surgery in Great Haywood, Staffordshire. June 1987 saw the arrival of their son, James, followed in 1990 by their daughter, Emma. It was around this time that Martin was invited to join the team of Doctors at Uttoxeter Racecourse. This was something he really enjoyed and lead to further attendances at other racecourses around the country. His first attendance at Aintree Grand National was in 2004, (the year that Amberleigh House won) and he has been very happy to be invited back every year since.
Martin started beekeeping with Jane in April 2022, a hobby they both thoroughly enjoy. Martin has already passed some British Beekeeping Association exams and hopes to continue with these during his retirement with an aim to become a Master Beekeeper

We need your support!
Park Palace Ponies is a unique inner-city riding school in Liverpool’s Dingle area, offering local children the chance to learn to ride. This experience boosts confidence, mental wellbeing, and fosters a connection with animals. Our mission is to make riding accessible to all, regardless of background, and bring the benefits of equestrian education to the city.
In addition to riding lessons, we provide equine welfare and therapeutic sessions for children from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, local schools, and vulnerable adults. Our volunteers find a welcoming space where they can connect and grow.
Now a registered charity, we need further funding to continue our work. Your support through donations, grants, or sponsorships would directly help us maintain our facilities, care for our ponies, and keep our programs accessible and affordable. To explore partnership opportunities, please contact Jane Beirne at parkpalaceponies@gmail.com or 07909877525.

In an event of an emergency please be guided by our security stewards and by messages you will see and hear around the racecourse. We would advice that you keep your personal belongings with you at all times. In the event of an evacuation please do as requested by Aintree Management and security staff. They will direct you to a safe place. Do not attempt to regain access to buildings. Feedback We are always pleased to hear from our customers and are grateful for any feedback you can provide about your visit today. There are short contact forms available online at thejockeyclub.co.uk/ aintree and we value your comments.

The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £407,540 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from 16th September to 31st December 2024
The Racecourse would be grateful if you would observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst you are at Aintree Racecourse. The emergency exits from the bars onto the grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would request that you do not stop whilst in this area. We would also request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing ramp and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that the first aid room is located on the Ground Floor of the County Stand. Should anyone require any assistance please speak to the nearest steward.
Weights, Pedigrees, Trainers’ Names, Descriptions, Performances and Values of races have been added for the convenience of the Public, but are subject to alteration. All horses must parade in the Parade Ring except by permission of the Stewards, but in all cases must pass through the Ring on the way to the Post. The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone without assigning a reason for so doing.
In the interests of safety, access to the parade ring is strictly limited to Owners and Trainers with runners in the race, British Horseracing Authority Officials and Racecourse Officials who are on duty at the meeting and Emergency Service Personnel. Those people holding badges or accreditation that allow access to the Parade Ring are asked to refrain from entering this area unless it is absolutely necessary in the course of their business.
Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the public enclosures. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication without prior accreditation being obtained. Flash photography is not permitted anywhere in the Parade Ring or Winner’s Enclosure areas, or anywhere in the close vicinity of horses.
The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses
competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Aintree Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
