C H A I R M A N ’ S W E L C O M E
Welcome to the opening day of the Summer Mile Racing Weekend. Today marks the 16th renewal of the hugely popular Property Raceday at Ascot, the property industry’s annual ‘day at the races’. Since its inception, it has raised over £3 million for a wide variety of good causes.
Once again, the raceday has been widely supported and we extend our gratitude to the Property Raceday Committee, all the organisers, and the race sponsors, including LSH, Close Brothers, Long Harbour, Savills, Signature Capital and Tide. We hope everyone involved has a fantastic day.
It seems hard to believe that just three weeks ago, another thrilling Royal Ascot was drawing to a close having delivered yet more captivating stories and unforgettable moments throughout the week. It was an honour to witness Aidan O’Brien’s 400th Flat Group 1 winner as a trainer when Auguste Rodin won the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, a truly historic achievement by a legendary trainer, who also brought Kyprios back from a career-threatening injury to regain the Gold Cup. It was fantastic to see a strong international challenge too, with winners from France and Australia providing spectacular scenes on the track and in the Winners’ Enclosure.
Today’s six-race card looks hugely competitive, and we are delighted to offer over £135,000 in prize money, including £50,000 for the feature race, the Savills British EBF Fillies’ Handicap which will be run over a mile and a half at 4.00pm. We are also pleased to remember the founder of the Property Raceday, the late Derek Lucie-Smith, in the title of our third race.
At 5.40pm we will be running a Charity Race over the Straight Mile - feel free to stay around and lend your support to the competitors.
We hope you can join us again tomorrow, where the Group 2 Anne Cowley Memorial Summer Mile will be the feature race on another exciting card here at Ascot.
Yours sincerely,
Sir Francis Brooke Bt. His Majesty’s Representative & Chairman

RACING PAGES
Your guide to all of today’s races
Today’s opener is a one mile handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 66 to 85. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130
PAGES 24-25
2nd Race 2.50pm
The Close Brothers Nursery Handicap Stakes
A nursery is a handicap that is restricted to two-year-olds only. In order to be allowed to take part, entrants must have already run in three maiden or novice races, or have won two races, which then qualifies them for an official handicap rating based on what they have achieved so far Quite simply, the higher their rating, the bigger the weight they have to carry This particular six furlong race is for horses which have been rated from 0 to 80.
PAGES 28-30
3rd Race 3.25pm
The Long Harbour Derek Lucie-Smith Handicap Stakes
This race is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 71 to 90 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 90 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 85
PAGES 36-38
4th Race 4.00pm
The Savills British EBF Fillies’ Handicap Stakes
This race is a one mile and four furlong handicap race for three-year-old and upward fillies which have been rated from 76 to 95. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb
PAGES 42-44
5th Race 4.35pm
The Signature Capital Handicap Stakes
This race is a one mile and two furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 66 to 85 Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.
PAGES 46-48
6th Race 5.10pm
The Tide Handicap Stakes
The final contest of the day, this race is a six furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 76 to 95. Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 95 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 90
Everyone at Ascot extends their deepest condolences to John Hunt, his family and friends, at this tragic time.

The way he made light work in the end of two 1m4f novice races on AW last autumn marked him down as a very serious prospect; handicap win at Goodwood (1m6f, good to firm; smart form) last month confirmed that in spades, as class and stamina came into play late on; 2m+ looks sure to suit and, although this company is of a radically higher order than in those three races, it is hard to put a ceiling right now on what he might achieve.

21. Official BHA Rating
The BHA handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change in rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, their latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
22. Jockey’s name and photo
If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight.

RACE SUMMARY
ROYAL POWER ran well for third in a Listed race at Goodwood on his reappearance and the unexposed Godolphin colt looks capable of going well on his handicap debut. Stable companion Endless Victory is not out of this either, while Chantilly drops back down in distance after a good effort at Royal Ascot and can figure. The progressive pair Rebaatt and Travolta have a hike in the ratings to contend with, but Candle Of Dubai is worth a second glance.

3-1 Stockpyle (GB), 4-1 Dreamrocker (IRE), 13-2 Leuven Power (IRE), 7-1 Powdering (IRE), 8-1 One Step Beyond (IRE), 9-1 Botas (IRE), 11-1 Desfondado (IRE), 16-1 Royal Parade (IRE), Baltimore Boy (IRE), Grey Fox (IRE), 25-1 Crystal Casque (GB)
RACE SUMMARY
Stockpyle has scored at Kempton and Chepstow recently and he is of clear interest in his hat-trick bid, but preference is for DREAMROCKER. Ed Walker’s filly caught the eye when keeping on for third at York in May, before finishing a close-up second at Goodwood the following month. She’s looked a little outpaced on both occasions so this stiff finish should suit, and pedigree suggests she will have no problem with any cut in the ground. Others to note include Powdering and last year’s victor One Step Beyond.

RACE SUMMARY
Only a tentative vote can go to the Eve Johnson Houghton-trained PATSY SNUGFIT She’s shown clear promise across her three starts and the latest of those at Windsor, won by subsequent Listed winner Celandine, suggests an opening mark of 72 is within range Ground conditions will be no barrier to success for Number and he is perhaps the main threat. The safety and welfare of horses and jockeys is paramount throughout the year at Ascot. In recent years we have invested significantly to improve our facilities on and off the track to ensure we provide the very best care and attention for all participants Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the changes made to the racing surface itself during the redevelopment in 2006.
The key elements of the project were to camber the home and old paddock bends and to remove the road crossings over the track, replacing them with underpasses. This created a safer surface for the horses, where previously some less experienced runners had occasionally shied at the differing surfaces.
Further improvements to equine welfare provision were made as part of a £700,000 project to create an enhanced unsaddling area in 2016. Increased in size to accommodate large field races more comfortably, the Unsaddling Enclosure Lawn is positioned to benefit from maximum shade
from the crown of an adjacent mature tree as well as a repositioned tulip tree, which sits to the south of the oval. Equine misting fans were also installed to aid with post-race cooling of horses.
Four specifically qualified equine vets are on duty every raceday, dedicated to the welfare of all the horses. During each race, vets follow the runners by car and can respond to and attend a casualty generally within a minute – as fast as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties.
Ascot’s two permanent veterinary boxes are supplemented with an X-Ray machine for the major meetings to assist with swift diagnosis before administration of treatment on site or any movement necessary to equine hospitals.
There are two equine ambulances on course at all times and three ambulances for any incidents involving injuries to jockeys.
The jockeys’ facilities at Ascot include a medical treatment room, rest rooms and a dedicated room for physiotherapy

RACE SUMMARY
Having dug deep to land the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, dual Group 1 winner PORTA FORTUNA arrives on the back of a career-best performance. The daughter of Caravaggio should prove a warm order and further glory looks imminent. Running Lion looked better than ever when scoring in the Duke Of Cambridge and the Gosdens’ filly may give the selection most to think about, ahead of the unexposed A Lilac Rolla.

RACE SUMMARY
LOUGHVILLE looked a progressive handicapper to keep very much on the right side of when running out a comfortable winner over 1m2f at Wetherby on her penultimate start and, after shaping with more credit than the bare result suggests over the same trip when third at Chester most recently, she gets the vote to return to winning ways upped in trip off an unchanged mark. The unexposed Galaxy Princess merits respect on her handicap debut, while Irish raider La Dame Blanche is noted too.

RACE SUMMARY
Specialisation has showed enough in his three qualifying runs to suggest that he can play a hand in a race of this nature, and he must be respected on his handicap bow. However, preference is for CONDOR PASA Roger Varian’s charge opened his account with the minimum of fuss over 1m1f at Carlisle last month and, upped in trip on his handicap debut, another bold showing looks assured. RACE SUMMARY
In a wide-open affair in which a case can be made for many, just a tentative vote goes to GLENFINNAN. The son of Harry Angel was last seen finishing an excellent fifth in the Wokingham here last month and, sporting first-time cheekpieces off an unchanged mark, this C&D winner looks the one to side with. Fresh is well handicapped on old form and he may emerge as the main danger, ahead of Jarraaf.

At all meetings there is a team of specially qualified vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses. During each race vets follow the horse by car and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. It is standard practise for screens to be fixed around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, just allows the vet some privacy and the patient a calm environment in which to recover. Please do not always assume the worst if you see screens around a fallen horse.
